Do your thing and allow your opponent to answer. I think people now are forgeting that battles are supposed to be a clash of egos in a sense- two individuals lay it all out to see who's better. I think people are turning battles into shows. Which is cool in other styles but it's not germaine to point of hip-hop culture.
agreed. routines ruin the battles for me. there is no real expression just rehearsed moves that aren't consistent with the narrative of the immediate battle at hand. there should be a battle category for just routines with different criteria like synchronicity, creativity and tightness...

People seem to forget that when people are battling hard and burning their opponent its a sign or respect because it show you're giving it your all to win. Now I enjoy routines for the answer back, but a clean, original set of one person that listens to the music says more then a choreographed routine will at times.
