All good products to try, thank you. One more I’d like to share.. for years I have taken a small amount of Dawn dishwashing liquid, diluted it in a small bottle and then, after dipping my make up brushes in warm/tepid water, squeeze a few drops of the solution onto the bristles and wash in the palm of my hand. After thoroughly rinsing in warm/tepid water, I gently squeeze the brush head and place on a cotton or paper towel to air dry. They turn out beautifully clean and soft. This has worked for me for years. If it’s good for removing divert and oil from a duckling, it’s as gentle on our make up brushes! 😊👍

Whenever I notice that my mascara wand and tube looks a little dry, I will clean the wand with soap and water and then dry it off and save the clean wand to donate to the animal charity, "Wands for wildlife". They use clean mascara wands to clean bugs off the animal's fur.

Great Ideas! I also sanitize my palettes by wiping each color off with a Kleenex to remove surface powder, and then spray with 70% alcohol. Dries quickly and doesn’t effect the quality at all. I was suffering with conjunctivitis repeatedly, but not since I started doing this. I also wash my brushes weekly. 💕💕

Spray either directly onto brushes or onto a clean paper towel, and gently clean wipe brushes clean (don't forget the handles!)

Great tutorial Dominique and I too am fanatical about cleaning my brushes. He's a tip from me to you - solid lipsticks can be cleaned so easily. Just dip the tip into your liquid alcohol rub and it will not effect the stick at all. I worked in cosmetics and this is how we used to clean them if customers insisted on trying them on. Here's another tip - don't ever apply any product in store to your face. If you must colour check use your hand then wipe it off with a disinfectant wipe. You can't imagine how much bacteria is on those testers. They're a breeding ground for everything! Agree toss out your mascara every 3 months and if by chance you have come up with a stye and that day you applied mascara - it's gone! Toss it out. It's hard I know to throw out a $40 anything but my tip is if you're prone to eye issues just buy an inexpensive one.Dominique you've proven good application is key and a discount brand can achieve an equally great make up application. Again thank you your amazing I wait for your weekly tutorials like there's no tomorrow! Pam from Sydney x

Hi Dominique, when you use the spray cleaning products (any of them) spray them all on the paper towel first to avoid ruining your brushes. Using the sprays directly on the brushes can loosen the glue on the ferrules. Just some friendly advise. 💜 Great tips! You can also use some alcohol 70% on your powder products once in a while to disinfect them. 😁 💜 There are also mesh baggies on Amazon you can buy and put your puffs, sponges and brushes in your makeup bags too. 😁 💜

I use the cinema secrets and Dr. Bronner's for my bigger brushes. If you have a lot of brushes, I find it helpful to use a small group of brushes each week so you clean a smaller amount and then rotate a different group of brushes each week to make use of all the ones you have. It's too overwhelming to dirty all your brushes and then have to clean so many. Beauty blender makes a solid cleaner too. Hope your eye clears up soon.

In addition to the cleaning products, I highly recommend using a brush cleaning matt. There are very expensive ones (Sigma, around $30) and less expensive ones that are identical (Esadora, $7). I was shocked to see how much junk came off of what I thought was a clean brush.

And very warm water. How long should they soak? A few hours or overnight? Also good is bronners liquid Castile soap. Great for brushes and for household cleaning. Dilute in water. I part Castile soap to 4 parts water. Also, some essential oils also diluted very well in water. Let soak. Also, doTERRA liquid cleanser, good for brushes and other household cleaning. Needs diluted also in warm water. Contains essential oils and is antibacterial and antifungal. Makes cleaning so enjoyable since the essential oils smell!! Lifts your mood too!!! Hey, this natural stuff really works, and you feel better using them since they don't contain toxic chemicals or ingredients. Yay!!!! Jean.

I’m obsessed with tossing old mascara! When I open a new tube of mascara, I put a sticky mailing label on it with the date that I opened it so I know when to toss. I also try to open the first day of each quarter so I know to toss the old; i.e. January, April, July, and October are the months to toss my old mascara and open a new one. Love your videos, Dominique. Always so very helpful.

Dominique, I am SO guilty of not cleaning my brushes and...of course right after your eye spy stye vid, I get some sort of teeny tiny thing on my waterline. YUK! So I did something I do not recommend. I took a teeny tiny dot of iodine on a Q-tip and did a teeny tiny tap on the villain trying to pop up on my eye. He was gone the next day that joker. Holy guacamole. I washed brushes, makeup, anything that was sitting still in my makeup drawer and anything that wanted to grow legs was either dead or dying when I got through with it. Whew! Talk about a possible disaster! Love your vids they're always right on time.

I use dawn dish wash once a week to clean my brushes and make up powder pads. I also take some alcohol on a napkin and clean my eye lash curler which does hold a lot of mascara . Another tip is wipe your lipstick and/or gloss on a napkin before application and after application, especially if you like to apply some after you eat. I also do the same with eye liners as well as clean the sharpeners. You would think that my skin would be immaculate, but no. I still get breakouts. lol! Oh one more think if you wear glasses like me wash your glasses before and after make up too.

Hi Dominique , Thank you for your priceless info on cleaning brushes.
Going back to the sty you had, I was reading a comment from a subscriber and was going to comment but got sidetracked. Excellent advise. I had a sty setback in 1994 right before my sister's wedding. I frantically went to my eye doctor and told him I was wearing my contacts regardless of what he said to the wedding. He told me also to do the shampoo scrubs with baby shampoo (I always buy Johnson's). Glad to say, it was better for the wedding. I took it one step further and use it as an eye makeup remover. I read it too not long ago that suggestion in Allure. My friend also told me her eye doctor told her as well. I have been also using it to wash my makeup brushes with one of the bumpy silicone pads for that use. I also rinse the pad with baby shampoo. One more thing - I use it to handwash my lingerie. Sorry to ramble. ❤ you and your channel!

Great tips! it's not really spring related, but would you consider doing a video on speaking publicly? Either to a crowd or on camera?

Dominique I wash my brushes once a month since I wear makeup once a week and I use dish soap and water and rinse them well and let them dry overnight. Didn't know that mascara is good only for 3 months and also to clean my pencil sharpener. Good to know thanks.

Loved this - would love to carry on with spring cleaning the make-up itself and also spring cleaning closet, accessories, etc. Do you edit your wardrobe continuously or do you edit seasonally?

I always clean my makeup sponges/blenders 3 or 5 days after I use them. Then I let them air dry. When the start to shed pieces, that's when I know it's time to throw it away and use a new clean one.

Thank you Dominique but I’m so surprised you didn’t include fellow Houstonian Jentry Kelley’s brush cleaner. It’s my absolute FAVORITE. It thoroughly cleans my brushes and leaves them so soft and fluffy. I guess the only downside to her brush cleaner is the brushes need to dry overnight.

Scotch tape is also a good way to take off the top layer of pressed powder without wasting too much product.
What about lipstick? I've seen the Sephora gals use alcohol and then blot with a tissue. That seems like a good method but do you blot immediately or leave it on for 10 seconds? A minute?

Cute video, when the mascara went flying I happened to think about recycling. Did you know that "Wands for Wildlife", in N.C. would love to have them ? Also, you can mail them to "Wildlife Wands" in Southwick , Ma. Some oil spill rescue services use them too. Please just check it out. Thanks

Would you please do an updated skincare routine video. I know you had recommend Neutrogena Fresh Foaming face wash a long time ago. Do you still recommend that one? Needing a good recommendation for one that wont dry out the skin, but still remove makeup. Thank you for your videos

Oh I forgot to add a tip from my daughter. When you're waiting for your brushes to dry rest them on a downward angle. I roll a hand towel at one end and rest the handles facing down. This way you avoid your brushes getting moisture bacteria or the wood rotting at the base of the brush!
