The first form of "smell-o-vision" was in the 1990s. There were a couple of TV specials that had a kit you could buy that include scratch-and-sniff stickers, then during certain scenes they'd tell you on the show which sticker to smell.
It was a lot earlier than that. Hans E. Laube introduced his Smellovision (later rebranded Smell-O-Vision) at the 1939 New York World's Fair. His invention used a system of pipes attached to a circular mechanism carrying vials of odorous liquid.
So I had to look up the other scents, because I thought this might be fun for a cozy game like Animal Crossing if they had nice, relaxing scents.

The original product is the same in terms of functionality but is designed for films, where I think it might work better because films can be played back with a certain delay.
This is just a relatively old product that has been re-marketed for gaming.
By the way, the whole thing actually has nothing to do with AI but it sounds better XD

I have always wanted a feature on smartphones where you can send people smells (same way you send a text or voice message). They can choose to open it or not but when they do, a slight most comes out of the phone. You just need to replace the little tanks inside the phone when you run out.
Personal story. I had recently watched LTT’s video on a similar scent cartridge gaming device and I was playing Age of Calamity. One of the neighbors was doing a bonfire or something and as I blew something up in the game (bokoblin base or something probably), I got a big whiff of the bonfire smell. It was surprisingly (and accidentally) immersive. It took me a while to remember that the smells came from outside and were unrelated. It made me kinda wish that smell-o-vision in games was a real thing.

If a Wii Heart Monitor was being worked on for so long I'm surprised there's no official Switch Smell-o-vision accessories.
It's not that bad! you just need to keep the accessory as far away from you as possible!
For this to work they need to somehow magically distill smell to its primary smells like primary colours so it on the fly mixes the base smells to make the unique smell that makes sense in the moment
I work at GameStop and when my coworker unboxed this from a shipment, we were losing our minds trying to think of how it worked. And then we opened it. Figured out they were actual bottled scents and uhhhh. Christ. Maybe I shouldn’t have gone for gunfire first but the racing/burnt rubber one made me cough so hard lmao. We went from super curious and excited to never wanting anything to do with it ever again. Guaranteed the three we got are gonna rot in our store

Yoo when wolf among us first came out I used to burn incense to get that smoke smell since Bigby is always pulling out a cigarette. In the moment, I remember it being so cool. In hindsight, I was a kid that didn’t smoke trying to emulate the smell of smoking in my house😂

A weird idea, you could empty smells you dont like or replace them with ones that make more sense to you. For lightning instead of that burning smell you could just do nothing or additional storm smell. Not as intended but can work around to avoid stuff you dont want to subject yourself too!
theres so many essential oils out there you could really go to town making your own personal scents

Naming it a switch accessory show’s Nintendo RUclipsrs will always try to make anything based strictly on the switch just call it a gaming accessory 😭
I feel like this would be MUCH more effective if they had an HDMI passthrough that allowed the AI to produce scents based on visuals. Trying to do it via sound is never going to work accurately unless games start adding narrations like "The player has entered a forest."

I'd recommend watching Linus Tech Tips and Austin Evans video on this. If I remember correctly it wasn't that bad for them Might just be how the soundbar or TV you are using or how those were configured that kept making the thunder and gun ones keep going off. I wouldn't be surprised if room acoustics also played a role. Of course this is bound to not work properly as advertised but I know it can work from seeing their videos.
