    I think it's similar for a lot of number 2 drivers.... It's hard mentally to go out there pretending to be a racing driver but knowing that you're really only there to support the quicker guy. If you lose that 1% of motivation, you lose pace and then as you lose pace, you lose your confidence. It's very hard to fight out of that when you know you're not really racing for wins so you lose more motivation and the cycle just goes around and around. If he joined a midfield team for next year, I think we'd see decent performances from him (initially at least...)

      It is even harder as Perez started the 2023 season to become the world champion. To be fair, Checo did end up having an amazing career in the end, he achieved some level of success that to be honest, not many counld really achieve, he even won at Monaco regardless of the circumstances which I'm sure is another milestone not many could achieve.
    Relative to the field, he's right in the middle for sure, but he's not a bad driver, I've enjoyed his several glory runs in his Force India days, and he's had an insane roller coaster of a career through the highs and lows.

    Many of you probably know this, but I've only just read about some of it.
    During the 2024 season three teams - Alpine, Sauber and Haas - were interested in Yuki for the 2025 season.
    All three were offering long term contracts, however, Horner blocked him from going anywhere.
    Then after all of that, Horner finally gives Yuki a chance to drive the Red Bull car, afterwards Horner said, "We gave Yuki the opportunity as a favour to Honda" e.g. Honda wouldn't leave us alone about it, so we had to _capitulate/give the little b@stard a chance to drive a Red Bull car._
    Later Horner said;
    "We’re acutely aware that if we’re not able to provide an opportunity for Yuki - being, in all honesty, this year [2025] - does it make sense [to keep him]?” Horner pondered."
    “You can’t have a driver in the support team for five years. You can’t always be the bridesmaid."
    “You’ve either got to let them go at that point or look at something different.”
    Then why didn't you let him go earlier in the year when other teams, with available seats, wanted him?
    After that Helmuthead doubled down on it saying, something like "He needs to go."
    I'm sure Yuki can't wait to get away from these @$$🕳's.
    Maybe next time another team is interested in him, Horner won't act like such an F'ing prick about it.
    Although, his personality does strongly fall into the "F'ing prick" category

    While I agree that Perez’s performance was not at the level needed, I find it rich that there is a consensus belief that Perez lost RBR the constructors championship. I don’t see any comments that RBR failed to design a car with characteristics that BOTH drivers could maximise. Perez definitely underperformed, but RBR lost the constructors because of a decision to focus around Max.

      Production and Logistic wise it would create higher costs. Like a Front Wing is +125.000€ per Wing for example. It wouldn’t make sense letting costs spiral out of control for a theoretically slower package that would only benefit the weaker driver. Also building these Parts takes time so you would also slow the production and harm your strong driver. With the cost Cap they can’t afford the personal or Resources to build practically two different Cars. Also then you would again need a Team that researches the second Packages updates which then needs more wind tunnel time which is also regulated and costs time and money. I probably still forgot like 5 things but that’s the gist of it

    But it is foolish and imprecise to just blame him for everything: if a team knows their driver's preferences about how to drive, and sistematically omits feedback, then the ignored driver (should be) disclaimed about the negative possible outcomes. In any formal job that would be noted, informed and accounted; but for some reason nobody is telling this.

    Was Perez the only driver who saved a whole F1 team? Or just the only one in this new era? Also, very few drivers on today's grid have performed what he did. 4th in 2020 (in the Racing Point), 4th in 2021, 3d in 2022 and a 2d in 2023. 6 race wins and 2 constructors titles. Only 4 drivers on today's grid did better (Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen and Alonso). It was the last 8 races that cost Perez and RB the constructors title, as he had a 9 point average per race in the first 16 races which dropped massively in those last 8 races to a dismal 1 point average per race. Funny that his replacement could not even outdo that, Liam's average was only 0.66 points per race.

      Yeah, I think what really happened is that Checo's career came to an end in 2021... and then had a spectacular coda where being in the right place at the right time got him into a genuinely competitive car for the first time in his career. You don't win 6 Grand Prix without some talent, and he was a very good driver on his day, but definitely more of a midfield hero than someone you'd usually put in a front running car.
      I think over time his battered reputation will recover. Look at how terrible Damon Hill's final season in F1 was but over the years it was the good stuff - that amazing wet race in Japan in '94, winning the title in '96, coming within half a lap of dragging a win out of the Arrows in '97 - that people remembered. When people think back on Perez in years to come I'm sure it'll be the wins and poles that they remember not that absolute horror show of a final season.

I wish I could feel proud that he’s brought the sport so much attention here but honestly I’m not always sure it’s for the best, most Perez fans are obnoxiously at the level of drive to survive fans and defend his foolishness to no end, honestly seeing him this season I went from apathetic to actively disliking him, making a fool of himself on track multiple times. There are few Mexicans on the grid in motorsports in general and to squander such an opportunity with Red Bull even as a mid field driver is a bit sad honestly. Your video really made me make peace with a lot of things and see that he was a capable driver some time ago, especially in his earlier days.

    I've had a long-standing suspicion that post-Baku '23 Red Bull started giving Perez inferior equipment to their favoured Verstappen. The drop-off was so immediate and Perez had no real clue as to why. The rumoured asymmetrical braking system is something I would suspect was only fitted to Max's car for example.
    By the time this policy had any negative effect on the team, Perez was already demoralised and left Red Bull with no way of recovering their WCC position.
    Never a championship level driver but he was treated unfairly by Red Bull in the last two years.

      Noticeable similarity between Baku '22 and Miami '23: Perez, leading and looking good for a championship push, suddenly can't make any compound last five laps. One of the best tyre managers in the business, VERY odd.

    • @danardisimracing
      @danardisimracing 18 дней назад

      @@azapro911 even Verstappen has had trouble looking after his tyres in the latter half of 24, so there's something about the Red Bull that contributes to that for sure. It's just been my overall feeling that after Baku '23, Red Bull management decided that with Max being their number 1, Perez should be pegged back in some form, whether with different, or delayed updates, or running an inferior spec of car that didn't perhaps have some of the extra bits that were rumoured, as their car advantage in 2023 was such that even a lesser-spec RB19 would be able to finish 2nd in the WDC and contribute to a WCC overall for the team, whilst also avoiding any potential clashes between the teammates that could jeopardise that.
      This carried on until it was assumed that Red Bull had to remove their rumoured assymmetric braking system and Verstappen's pace advantage began to disappear as McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes all began to catch up. Verstappen's struggles at times with poor tyre wear and understeer through the middle of the season seem to give credence to this. Perez by this point was already lost, trying to drive around the same issues that he'd been dealing with since the year before, when the car development seemed to move away from him post-Baku.

      @ACsPianoCorner 18 дней назад +20

      I both agree and disagree, I agree RedBull develop the car so drivers can go as fast as possible. It’s setup and driver agnostic to begin with. However, it’s clear (and you can see this with all 5 of Max’s teammates since joining RedBull). As the season progresses, Red Bull consistently develop their cars to suit Max’s strengths rather than catering to a broader range of driving preferences. That’s because Max has shown if they continue in his direction he’ll win races.
      IMO, Max thrives in cars with a strong front end and reduced rear stability, something he manages exceptionally well. However, for the vast majority of drivers they prefer the opposite or a more balanced setup spread equally. Max is able to get the most out of a car that isn’t all the way balanced and for that reason RedBull can quickly focus on other elements that make them faster.
      But for Max’s teammates that often leaves them struggling to compete as the car gets further away from their driving style and development sweet spot. I firmly believe it’s not intentional to begin with as you’ll notice all of Max’s teammates do well in the first handful of races, but as more development happens they all drop off.
      Now that doesn’t take away from what Max has been able to do, he’s still an incredible driver but we should be honest about RedBull, it’s a Max team rather than a RedBull team. But that’s just my opinion.

    There's no shame in Perez falling short compared to a World Champion. He got everything he had been looking for since 2011, getting on to the top step of the podium, in Sakhir 2020 (indeed, he himself said "I don't want it to be a dream,"). The fact is, while we may criticise drivers like him, Bottas or whoever is in the unfortunate position of being team mate to a world champion, simply aren't on the same level. That's not a criticism, not every driver is capable of being at the top of their game week in week out.
    Most drivers that race in F1 don't even get close to the top step of the podium, or even the podium at all. Perez's misfortune was Verstappen upping his game to an astonishing level.
    I would trace Perez's perceived downfall to Miami 2023. Verstappen was down the grid after a problem in Q3, and Perez qualified fastest. But in the race, Verstappen completely destroyed his morale by not just by was significantly faster as well. Despite Verstappen taking a later pit stop, he easily caught and passed Perez on track

During 4 years, literally no one, no where ever brought up the frequent (bad) decisions (or lack thereof), ways, strategies, mistakes that were made in the garage that didn't help him achieve better results as well as the many-many times he was asked to "manage" the races while VER was given freedom to maximize the result. Like he could have stayed at Sauber for 2013 and the could have replaced Massa in 2014 at Ferrari instead of Raikkonen of course that would have caused some alternative driver moves like if Sergio didn't go to Mclaren then either Paul Di Resta or Hulkenberg would have been given a chance or Kevin Magnussen would have been signed early and if Sergio replaced Massa instead of Raikkonen then Raikkonen would have signed with Force India. But anyway that's just my opnion about this maybe Sergio's career would have been doomed either way and I'm just spouting some raw crap here.

    The lesson here is that mega stars are defined by their consistency and floor, not best days when it all lines up. Max has bad days as well, but they are few and far between.

    I doubt he ends up at Caddy… the scrap heap excluded Mick Schumacher from the year before because in reality after a year out very few reboot themselves and find a way back to the grid.
    Haas is less ridiculous than they were a few years back that created some opportunities for folks like magnussen or hulkenburg and I don’t think we will see as many old timers coming back
