  • Minchin, Danny Rubin, and Matthew Warchus take us behind the scenes at the creation of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical.
The beloved film ''Groundhog Day'' is the story of an acerbic weatherman forced to relive his least favorite day over and over again in a town he just wants to leave. How does one turn this story, which features repeated lines and plot twists, into a forward-moving musical? That was a task for original screenwriter Danny Rubin, songwriter Tim Minchin, and director Matthew Warchus, who teamed up to bring the property to the stage. With Tony nominations in hand, the trio sat down with TheaterMania to discuss expanding the story and finding the beating heart within.

As someone whose felt stagnant for a long time emotional maturity-wise, this show resonates with me a lot and I want that transformation he ends up having and the full connection with other people.

I thought the TM at the end was for Tim Minchin - how disappointing that it's for Theatre Mania
