Zerakiel you speak of this as if flying aircraft carriers with exactly 2 runways, a cannon bay on the bottom which is only featured in the second captain america movie, and 4 huge thrust platforms is completely normal and doesn't come from the Marvel universe.
The problem with that particular design is that it look like it would be very easy to cut off those thruster sections with a well placed barrage of missiles.
***** true. But that would be easily noticeable, and the crew could do something about it. A surprise missile barrage would be instant crash landing. take that space to surface missile system from a few weeks ago, if the ship is going to be in the same place for a few minutes, you can send a guy down to send the coordinates and you could devastate any team using it.
+Darin Anderson Considering that blocks in Space Engineers can take quite a beating and still be functional, a far better idea would be to rig up a couple of suicide Henry drones with warheads and fly them straight into the engines.
Not really but i can give you a quick statistics about the new power nerfs and buffs. I have only memorized the small ship for now soz. Small ship Grid: Small reactor output = 500KW Atmosphere thruster input = 701KW Large atmosphere thruster input = 2.4MW Large Reactor output = 14.75MW Battery Output = 4.32MW at full charge and output last for 15 minutes. Refer to this wiki page because its the most updated. www.spaceengineerswiki.com/Thruster Hope this helps XD
Also forgot to Mention Jumpdrives... just guess what they do (Max range per drive 2000KM) Also inertia dampeners compensate for planet gravity so you can hover. You require platinum to build Ion thrusters. Platinum can only be found on moons and asteroids not planets. Also a alien planet and moon (titan moon) and it has fauna(animals) also they give you ammo and you now spawn with guns. guess why... Its not like there's any pirates or hostile animals or anything to be worried about..... Also they have added different tiers of tools you may want to look at and different versions of the rifle like precise and rapid fire and elite. Also the planets are really far away from each other like 2000km and 6000km so you might want this mod for networking.steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=450637217&searchtext=planetary+antenna Highly recommend it. And just one more thing. Planets only run in DX11 and Cargo ships are currently disabled. P.S you respawn ship has enough thrust to hover for a bit so use it.
+Dynamite Dinosaur ... and UNIT bit SHIELD's style re: helicarriers, but to be fair so did GI Joe's COBRA, itself a complete rip off of both Marvel's HYDRA and DC's KOBRA
I was already starting to build something like this in my game. The big difference is that the carriers primary purpose was to be an intermediate between the ground and space. It would collect oxygen and produce hydrogen for fighters to break atmosphere and engage pirates, charge up batteries so the ship wouldn't need Uranium OR charge solar ships, and be a 'port of call' for players who are on the planet but not a part of a guild/group/club/league etc Having a floating supply ship can encourage new players to join you as well. :D
Arron, I would really like to see a second video about this ship with more of a focus on the technical aspects of the ship. For instance: How long can it hover in 1G on a certain amount of fuel? Does it break apart or get hugely damaged when you land it on anything but the flattest of surfaces? How long does it take it to accelerate or decelerate or lift off? How much weight (in small ships) can you add to it before it starts to plummet, due to gravity? Without anything on it, how many engines can be damaged before the whole thing falls out of the sky? How much does this monster craft kill your frame rate when it is fighting gravity? How do its turret defenses hold up in a fire fight? I would really love to see a video that answers some of these questions about this incredible ship!
The lower parallel deck (on traditional aircraft carriers at least) is the takeoff deck. The upper diagonal one is the landing deck (it's angled so that if you come in too fast or miss the arrestor cables, you can just throttle up and take off again for another go without crashing into aircraft that are parked on the takeoff deck). Actual carriers have both runways on the same deck, but I'm really liking the double-decker design.
+Jonathan Hughes I thought aircraft kept their throttle up until they hit the arresting wires or at least a little bit, i don't know, talking out me arse here!
+Thomas O'Connor The arresting wires help slow down the aircraft, sure, but they aren't miracle workers. If you don't reduce throttle (especially in a fighter with lots of thrust) you'll come in waaaay too fast for a safe landing. The cables help the aircraft stop on the runway, so it doesn't need a full-length landing strip to slow down.
I thought it was full throttle on the deck as well, incase you missed the cables and had to go around. Either way, cant wait to see someone use this with the wing lift mod thing :D
You regulate your throttles to keep yourself at a safe speed until you touch down, then you ram the throttles to military power incase you miss the wires.
they actually come in pretty fast the whole time. The throttle is on max well before they hit the deck and compared to landing on the ground there going a lot faster.
There hasnt been enough of this in recent videos. I remember the good ol' days when people built huge, awesome looking ships that served no purpose other than to look cool and be repeatedley rammed into asteroids
I think the sky fortress/carrier base style is absolutely amazing. You guys should totally consider it for your survival series for a bunch of reasons, and I have some ideas that you guys might like. The biggest problem with a stationary home base, as you mentioned in this video, is it can become quite tedious to collect resources after a while, and you're stuck looking at the same scenery every day and every video. A mobile base will allow you all to travel to cool new vantage points, set up emergency outposts and stuff or something, and I'm sure having a mobile base would allow for some interesting scripted events like having to dogfight in low atmosphere, or you discover a pirate base off in the distance, etc. You guys could do what you did for your previous mobile base and work on different parts of the ship to make it have the asymmetrical and custom feel to it, although it might be a bit difficult to balance the thrusters if it isn't mirrored somewhat. You guys would have to figure out how to transport vehicles via short-flight carriers or vehicle lifts which is always fun, and you guys seem to have a little bit of practice with the concept already!! lol Every mission to ground would feel more like a mission this way, rather than "ok guys I'm going out to get more iron. Okay I'm back. Okay now I'm building". You guys will have to work together a bit more, maybe use a big multi-pilot v-tol lander that uses little drones for mining, and when you're on the ground you need to take shifts fighting off the Sabiroids. Another thought is assigning roles as well. Like since Sage is the host, he could be the ship Captain, Admiral, or something else, allowing him to basically be in charge of the base, moving it, keeping it stocked, etc. Someone else could be more of a weapons expert or defense minister who is in charge of keeping Sabiroids, pirates, and pesky AI away. Another could be in charge of something like utility and resource, who will mostly be in charge of ground/sky transport, mining missions, and outpost related things. You never know when you need an extra refinery/assembler set up somewhere remote just in case the carrier doesn't work out in a fantastical finale or something ;]
I think it's a great idea for a station. A mobile platform is best to keep from stretching yourself too thin. Put everything needed for mass production and you're golden
That would be cool for a team vs team game, each team has 1 carrier each and the goal would be to destroy or take over the other teams carrier could get some great planetary battles with that.
It's an amazing design, however the amount of power that thing needs to stay in the sky is insane! It already takes at least 2 reactors for a small ship to stay in the air, that's with just 4 small atmospherics. If you can store plenty of uranium you might be fine, but unless you automate the process or get a ton of it at once, most of your missions are going to be getting more fuel to prevent your base from falling out of the sky.
Fiannly somebody did it! Though there are some design flaws which together with teh general squariness of the design reveal a certain immaturity of the builder(as in time played) but still, I'm not complaining, i lvoe it; and that second overrunning runway looks amazing!!
Now I haven't seen any movies with this ship in it, however I'm pretty sure everyone knows that this creation is directly modeled after the shield helicarrier...
Laststandgamers, after each spotlight you and some friends should use your own creations to blow up the spotlighted ship, just imagine the carrier falling from the sky to ground how epic would that be... Like if you agree and maybe he will see the idea
Would this be awesome: Someone is using that Helicarrier and he is trying to defend it from couple of guys? Think that the engines die and it will crash XD R.I.P Graphics card
how is that staying the the air? A load of my attempts at ships are much smaller than that but have almost the same amount of atmospheric thrusters always seem to fall and crash.
Surprisingly enough the large atmospheric thrusters are quite durable, the only way I've found to break them in a reasonable time with a small ship is to kamikaze into them. You don't really need a lot of armor on them, which makes sky bases much easier to keep afloat. However, docking ships can cause the air base to tilt if they cut their thrusters. Atmospheric thrusters do not appear to damage blocks, so you don't have to worry about burning a hole in the deck..
I think a Defense/Offense scenario game mode would be fun. Imagine like a 4v4 or more fight between players using the carrier. You'd have some players flying in to take down the carrier before a certain time limit and the carrier has to survive with the help of the other team, with maybe 1 or 2 people operating the turret and controlling the ship while the rest are defending with fighters.
Those "hangerbays" on the bottom are hydrogen thrusters for emergency lift and to help get the carrier into orbit so it can dock with other ships and go to other planets.
I'd love to see a smaller, aerial base in Space Engineers; something just big enough to house four or five people, and maybe have enough room for just one or two support craft. It would be much more economical for playing the game, and I'm just a sucker for compact creations.
It's a good choice for a planet, excet for one thing: People with the "creative mode" dont think about how many hours you need to build the ship XD. It's easy to build a large nuclear reactor in creative, but in survival it's a doom. On the survival mode your goals are, by far, much more small unless you have lots of friends to help you to build that ship.
There really needs to be a fight between two of these. Two of these and maybe 3 fighters per carrier. Have them both start on opposite sides of the planet and destroy each other.
making a helicarrier that can leave the planets gravity but its sooo darn heavy, I think the reason he left it empty is to keep it all afloat, still very well built!
How did they get this to stay aloft when your not in the cockpit? I built a ship with a massive ton of thrusters but the moment I left the cockpit it very slowly began to fall
All of those yummy unprotected thrusters surrounded by one layer of light armor. Lots of blind spots that the turrets don't cover, the turrets are fed by external conveyor tubes. It's a flying coffin for PVP use.
It's a really nice option if you could keep up a constant stream of resources to keep powerring the engines.P.s. If you need to effectively take that ship out, keep supply shipments away and it'l crash. :D
Looks nice, but a few well-placed missiles to one or two of those engine banks and it will be going for a long drop with a sudden stop if you catch my meaning. The bottom seems to be most heavily guarded but the top sections are where I'd be aiming since they seem to have fewer guns.
imagine if you were in a multiplayer -faction server or a place where you can join a team n stuff and one team would have this aircraft carrier and would just see loads of flyers comeing in and out OMG THAT WOULD BE SO COOOL someone needs to make a video about that LIKE SERIOUSLY sooooo cool
Before declaring it a viable option, actually test it :pWhen I tried to build one, every time I landed something on it, it would have the same effect as a piston or rotor with a large weight hanging off it. The whole ship would be dragged down regardless of how much thrust it had because gravity acts on both sections independently, but the section with damping engines on only counters it's own velocity gain resulting in their shared velocity continuously pulling them down. You can get around that with an odd little feature where if a large ships velocity hits 0 and stays there while in natural gravity it's dampers stop firing and gravity stops effecting it... at that point you can very gently land small ships on it without any apparent issue.
One problem I see with this other than the obvious amount of fuel needed is that it will keep dropping slowly. Every time I've made something hover on a planet you can see it gradually dropping in altitude until it's on the ground again.
Ive made a HeliCarrier for my Faction Military. It would be expensive to make super massive warships for atmosphere when you can have just a few HeliCarriers w/ fighters and bombers covering the area. And anyone in their right mind will not stick doomsday weapons on something where weight will determine if you ship is even practical to use. Its best to be made cheap. and they will not cost as much because the fighters are VTOLs and dont need a run way to take off like most aircraft today.
how many large reactor to keep it flying? how much weight it can carry? and how many engine i need to disable to it drop when its empty? those are what i would like to know
While the idea is really cool, I wonder how much weight the ship can handle. Once you fill it with your refineries/assemblers/cargo containers and all the ores/ingots/components, can those thrusters keep the ship airborne?
It looks great, and it's a great concept, but the concern I have is the lack of solar panels. I dread to think of how much uranium that thing must need to stay in the air, especially since it's not common on planets. There's plenty of real estate for them too - the top is mostly flat, even in places that aren't meant to be runways.
I really like it! However you really would need some more engines to keep it from loosing its altitude if you start adding things to it. Thats most likely why theres so muc empty space tbh.
very nice but not quite like shield's helicarrier, for one the helicarrier has 4 bridges, the primary flight bridge (air traffic control), the aft guidance bridge (aircraft landing guidance) both on the flight deck, and then the citadel bridge (primary ship navigation and CIC) and then finally the Battle Bridge (which is actually inside the hull above the citadel bridge and the vital bridge functions of the citadel moves up into the battle bridge deck to protect the commanding crew) both the citadel and battle bridge are on the underside of the helicarrier.
Yeah. At night the whole thing will just come crashing down. Not that it is a bad thing because I know everyone watching this video was probably begging him to crash it in the back of their minds.
+Creeperrussell Just flood a few of those rooms with batteries, have it run on uranium until all the batteries are filled, and then it should be able to last the night as long as you don't move the ship too much. A airstrips worth of solar panels should fill a lot of batteries pretty dang fast in the day light. So perfectly viable. *goes to test*
I like the design but really wat are you really gonna use a ship of that size for unless u use mods there not much u can do maybe a smaller variant would be great
I think it would be a viable option for exploration, but for battle, it could sustain some major damage from the highly unprotected and armoured engines, as well as the largely unarmoured hull
Good idea for a mod actually... Build a giant rotor/engine, similar to the ones that are used in the Avengers to give things like this a more authentic look. Don't think it would be too difficult, but I'm not a modder, so I don't know.
It would be cool if someone built a docking/repair station for this and landed it there. Maybe it would have some welders on it, as well as an automated resupply system.
Cool idea but when the planet is sucked of its resources (it may take awhile though) how do you travel to a new planet? Its only got atmospheric thrust. Maybe you could ask him to make a remodel of it with a pad for a hydrogen lift? (A vehical with 4-8 thrusters in the x and z directions and 4-8 in the +y and 8-16 in the -y directions?
That's because it's based off an aircraft carrier (who would've thought!) that can, guess what? HOVER! It's not an original idea in the slightest. It makes me mad that everyone keeps comparing this to marvel
I hope there is enough thrust to keep this ship in the air when you add many small ships on it. because more ships => more weight => more thrust needed. And the energy input must be quiet big....
Going back to your Spider Drop Pod, I made a Base/Ship injector, I made a long cylindrical tube that can hold about 10 bugs each, and it uses a mine to blow a hole in the Base, I am still currently working on it but use the idea if you want
Since every vehicle in this game is effectively a VTOL, it doesn't make much sense for this to have runways. I would suggest a more compact design, which would be cheaper to armor (elongated shapes have greater surface area to volume ratio, meaning you're making more armor to protect the same amount of stuff) and also you could probably fit bigger ships in the hangar. Maybe not though.
Saints Row The Third did it first so I reclaim rule of cool. And by my rule I say it's cool to have jet planes taking off from flying carriers BUT that's only possible if you can use thrust to generate lift, and not even aerodynamic mods can do that yet.
And then one guy with a shield takes it out.
Correction: He takes three out.
Corrections correction: He uses one to take out the other two while fighting his long lost friend.
Hey, civil war looks great. :P
That it does.

Space Engineer has given us the power to replicate the Starkiller base
this is WHY there is a HUGE discussion in the suggestion forum of SE about blimps. specifically, non-ptessurized hydrogen bags.
At the end of your ship reviews why don't you ram them into the planets

I just want to see this thing being created in survival and then being used efficiently. That would be awesome.
I heard of a Interstellar Warfare thing being done by a RUclipsr named BlueDrake42, And this would be an amazing in atmosphere ship for that server.
So, how much this thing burns ice floating that way?
And why do you need flight deck without aerodynamics implemented?
One well placed shaped explosive charge would send that to the planets surface, it is an amazing looking build at the same time though.
There really needs to be a fight between two of these. Two of these and maybe 3 fighters per carrier. Have them both start on opposite sides of the planet and destroy each other.
question is.... would solar panels and batteries keep that thing up in the sky? seems quite big and heavy
making a helicarrier that can leave the planets gravity but its sooo darn heavy, I think the reason he left it empty is to keep it all afloat, still very well built!
+Venom 415 I guess it cant leave the planet anyway because the atmospheric thrusters only work on earth.
How did they get this to stay aloft when your not in the cockpit? I built a ship with a massive ton of thrusters but the moment I left the cockpit it very slowly began to fall
Oh man can't wait for what people will make of this idea, gonna be cooooooool
All of those yummy unprotected thrusters surrounded by one layer of light armor. Lots of blind spots that the turrets don't cover, the turrets are fed by external conveyor tubes. It's a flying coffin for PVP use.
just asking, does the hydrogenthruster carry more weight then the large atmosferical trhuster in atmorsphere?
If you don't need all the landing space you could put a lot of solar panels onto the ship to save power, or to keep the ship self-sustained.
sage is proof that a mobale station up in the sky does in fact work well (singular survival)
It's a really nice option if you could keep up a constant stream of resources to keep powerring the engines.P.s. If you need to effectively take that ship out, keep supply shipments away and it'l crash. :D
how long did it take you to make? ( actual building time) not ''hmmm how do i do this part''
This needs to be in an episode where you try to destroy the other teams carrier.
FINALY someone made a helicarier.
an you have it in a survival scenari where the ships front thrusters just stops working and the shipcrashes I to the ground?
Now all I can think of is 2 Heli-Carriers fighting or bombing a base on a planet.
Hey Arron, You could do a ramming battle with sage or scott with this thing, i can imagine it pretty funny when these things crash into the surface.
When is your next group survival video coming out, I've seen other people publishing it already. Hope to see more tho. Probably a really big fan. :>
I really like it! However you really would need some more engines to keep it from loosing its altitude if you start adding things to it. Thats most likely why theres so muc empty space tbh.
hey Arron you guys should build something like tis in your survival
It's the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, you nimitz!
nimitz is also a carrier

with that nicholas cage face
very nice but not quite like shield's helicarrier, for one the helicarrier has 4 bridges, the primary flight bridge (air traffic control), the aft guidance bridge (aircraft landing guidance) both on the flight deck, and then the citadel bridge (primary ship navigation and CIC) and then finally the Battle Bridge (which is actually inside the hull above the citadel bridge and the vital bridge functions of the citadel moves up into the battle bridge deck to protect the commanding crew) both the citadel and battle bridge are on the underside of the helicarrier.
And now remake "Captain America 2 - The Winter Soldier" in Space Engineers...
Epic Battle!
Captain Jack did that in one of his videos with the helicarriers

And skip to 7:15
hmm big qustion is how long can it stay upthire considering its size and weigth that thing is gonnna need alot of uranium.
Coat that airstrip in solar panels and you've got yourself a sustainable flying fortress
Yeah. At night the whole thing will just come crashing down. Not that it is a bad thing because I know everyone watching this video was probably begging him to crash it in the back of their minds.
Well it can fly, so just follow the sunlight.
+Zolen Delocus They fixed batteries not charging off solar?
Sergeant Denim
Last I checked, yes. I believe it was one of the unlisted fixes.
A marvelous creation? Oh you...
I like the design but really wat are you really gonna use a ship of that size for unless u use mods there not much u can do maybe a smaller variant would be great
I love it and would use it if my space engineers worked
When the Video Creator doesn't recognize that the Hellicarrier is Identical to the Shield MK1 Carrier but calls it "Marvelous".
How much Uran does it eat each minut it stays in the heaven(also is it spacecapable?)
It would be cool if someone built a docking/repair station for this and landed it there. Maybe it would have some welders on it, as well as an automated resupply system.
Reminds me of a cruiser from an old PS3 game called haze , looks sick !!!!
+LastStandGamers Do you still follow Star Citizen? If you do are you hyped for 2.0 full release?
Cool idea but when the planet is sucked of its resources (it may take awhile though) how do you travel to a new planet? Its only got atmospheric thrust. Maybe you could ask him to make a remodel of it with a pad for a hydrogen lift? (A vehical with 4-8 thrusters in the x and z directions and 4-8 in the +y and 8-16 in the -y directions?
"It reminds me of an aircraft carrier, taking to the skies"...it IS a flying aircraft carrier, mate!
"Fury, you son of a bitch."
"Oooh you kiss your mother with that mouth."
+Lion_Turtle language
+Lion_Turtle "Watch your profanity."
"Okay, I'm sorry."
that reminds me of the carrier from avengers
It's the same, especially the exterior side. If you played Lego Marvel , you would recognise some references
+TJCyber0211 Gaming that's because it is
it's the same
That's because it's based off an aircraft carrier (who would've thought!) that can, guess what? HOVER! It's not an original idea in the slightest. It makes me mad that everyone keeps comparing this to marvel
Do servers and teams/alliances get big enough to use this to its full extent?
this is the perfect ship to store a fleet of Henrys
I hope there is enough thrust to keep this ship in the air when you add many small ships on it.
because more ships => more weight => more thrust needed. And the energy input must be quiet big....
It would be really cool if you had a survival situation where this ship crashed on an alien planet and you have to completely repair it to escape
Having normal thrustrs on it would be also nice so you could have it in orbit and out.
1:40 Mining craft? Why does that sound familiar?
it'd be really cool if you put solar panels or something on that that way you could have it running 24/7
_I'd love to see a battle involving the Helicarrier; Maybe throw a handful of AI controlled Henrys at it and see what happens?_
+Will Richter It's based off a Marvel movie. So rule of cool applies here.
Saints Row The Third did it first so I reclaim rule of cool. And by my rule I say it's cool to have jet planes taking off from flying carriers
BUT
that's only possible if you can use thrust to generate lift, and not even aerodynamic mods can do that yet.
I think he was making more room or trying to make it look cool
My point was you don't have to sacrifice any room. That's how volume works in three dimensions.
Interesting. Well I like anything that's big and flies so good for Marvel. I hope to see the Space Engineers version do some work.
