If you want a production masterpiece you go to MBDTF. If you want to be taken on a proper story in an album, you go to TPAB. Depends on what you prefer as a person
What does leroy prefer?
You can hear a shockingly obvious abrupt vocal cut within the first 30 seconds of So Appalled
@@jackperson2236 I read that Swizz Beatz said he hated that vocal cut in the song, but Kanye like it so he kept it in. The little imperfections like that add character to the album I believe.

The irony😂
Taking the greatness of both TPAB and MBDTF into consideration, imagine how good a Kendrick and Kanye collab album would be.
Ya bro like NMPILA was already super good imagine a fucking album
Bro Ye production and Kendrick lyricism. Would be the greatest album ever
@@buggyfr8447 I think the universe would explode if they made a whole album of NMPILA level artistry.
Personally I think Collab albums are overrated, Watch the throne was great but Jay Z and Kanye have both made several individual albums that were better than watch the throne
@@Kyle-fq4kq The first 2 years that watch the throne came out, it was the main buzz, everyone thought it was some GOAT shit. The only issue is the album was "of the moment." Amazing at the time it was released, but doesn't age well like each of their solo records are more replayable. They just made an album in the theme and style of everything hip at the time, and did it better. Also a bunch of singles like Mercy, Clique and so on were the buzz around that same time.

Mbdtf gives me goosebumps when i think about the how the album was made, the setting, the release and the ultimate redemption of kanye west that the music provided. None the less 2 great albums.
Great video guys!!
The greatest comeback of any music career ever
@@scifinerd17 Some might Mariah Carey's The Emancipation of Mimi but it's up for debate I would say in recent memory
“How is it not even comparable” lmfao these guys started so quick
Tpab is insane. The creativity to be able to put that whole album together and make it all work is otherworldly. Mbdtf is great but my mind is boggled by the creative headspace kendrick must've been in when making TPAB.
They are both immensely creative in their own way, they are just so creatively different that it’s difficult to compare
Kendrick fan spotted.
I don't feel that way at all. The album and its story to me is completely shock and awe. After the first one or two times listening to it, you've gotten most of the impact from it, and from there, it diminishes with every listen. The only two songs I go back to are the very end of Mortal Man and How Much A Dollar Costs, which is one of the greatest songs ever made. Even the 'hits' on the album are bland to the rest of his hits. I'm not one to appeal to popularity, but in this case I think it is warranted. The streaming numbers don't lie TPAB is one of his least listened to albums, at least in terms of total plays. Despite it being claimed by so many to be the greatest album of all time and so hyped, it's very listeners appear to not enjoy it as frequently as other projects of his. Popularity and retention do not necessarily imply better art, but when it is at this level, one has to start questioning whether the ideas were that good from the get go. The best comparison I can make is a jump scare in a horror movie, yeah it gets your heart racing and scares you, but it isn't good horror. After that one moment, the effect is essentially gone and the initial feeling is almost impossible to replicate. Really gonna piss off some people with this next part, but I also feel like a lot of the songs are extremely overrated. Especially U, which I think is one of the worst songs he has ever made. It is so tacky and in-genuine to me that it almost seems like it is a parody.
@@mrmxyzptlk8906 Sherlock Holmes spotted

Love both albums but I find myself going back to MBDTF a LOT more often. Lu has a great point about it being a more accessible album.
just cuz u visit it more often doesnt make it objectively the better piece of art, cuz thats wut music is, its art, and artistically TPAB makes MBDTF look basic, and im saying that fully aware MBDTF may just slot in as a top 15-20 hip hop project of all time, and is kanyes best written work but TPAB is the greatest hip hop album of all time, and there is no question, Illmatic is a good contender, but nothing comes even remotely close other than that.
@@aldrianspalding4157delusional. It’s not to 2O. It’s the greatest rap album ever.
MBDTF is the greatest artistic achievement in rap. It’s TPAB that looks like an ant in quality and artistry in comparison.
MBDTF fuses much more genres and is extraordinarily grandiose to a ridiculous extent. It’s the much better album in every aspect. All Kendrick’s album has is more focused on an overarching narrative. And that narrative is as basic as can be. Kanye creates something truly unique and brilliant in the topics he discusses.
That's the problem with writing tho. Ofc when something is deep and complex, while also being coherent and moody it's going to be harder to listen to. But that doesn't really say anything no? Just because something is moody doesn't disprove albums, we are talking about ALBUMS as ONE PIECE, not their songs individually. I personally find TPAB more replayable literally because it's moody, that makes sense to me, you are supposed to feel it in your soul, not just get hyped up in yo ears.
Similar to deep and complex tv shows, other shows might generate more hype consistently, but something that's actually vastly emotional, moody and in the end all makes sense will make you feel more grateful for watching it instead of the other one.
I agree with the fact that MBDTF is more versatile and has a song for every mood…

TBAP bro. I still remember how floored I was when this Kdot wove in the poetry segments through the album, to reveal it as a conversation with Tupac on racism and wealth inequality at the end. Pure genius. It tied the album together in a way I didn’t expect at all.
Window dressing for a shallow message is “genius” to you? 😂

TPAB needs time still to see if its impact is as huge as MBDTF. But I don't think that it's going to win either way, Kanye's discography has proved to be the most impactful ever so far and his magnus opus definitely proves so.
@@equzia7524 rolling stone named MBDTF the 17th greatest album of all time in 2020. But TPAB is at 19! So they’re both great and recognized. But something to keep in mind, is that we wouldn’t have TPAB without MBDTF. And we wouldn’t have all of the great risk taking albums in mainstream hip-hop or the mainstream in general without MBDTF.
Edit:
Also if you look at mainstream hip-hop prior to MBDTF, the most significant albums generally focused on crisp production and phenomenal lyricism. Then post MBDTF, hip hop albums tend to focus less on an MC’s skills and more on elevating the genre to new heights, with more experimentation, emphasis on overall artistry rather than strictly skills on the mic. For example, an Eminem or a Jay Z are top notch MCs, where a Travis Scott or a Tyler the Creator are going to have more hands on approach to the craft of songwriting in hip-hop form. And that has to be credited to MBDTF. TPAB is a byproduct of MBDTF, yet influential in its own ways.
@@equzia7524 as a diehard Kanye fan, I think TPAB might be more impactful but the song runaway aged as one of Kanye’s best song or one of the best songs of all time and that was in mbdtf as long with songs that were probably as good as that one. So that’s one way mbdtf was impactful. But Kanye’s nickname should be “impactful”.
Umm I’m fairly sure tpab was an instant classic for a reason

TPAB is 100X better after the second listen. I thought it was weird and not that great until it got to Mortal Man. I wish I could get that feeling all over again when I first heard the ending of Mortal Man and it transitions back into Wesley’s Theory. It’s almost like that ending sets up the entire album even though it’s at the very end.

bros this was incredible. we need more of these. this is good content. respect to both of you.
Their both top 2 hip hop albums of all time for me and amazing in completely different ways, Kanye's artistry is based on his situation and unravels what happens when you reach the highest point, and Kendrick's artistry is based on the conflicts within his inner thoughts and being black in America. Kanye's production in MBDTF is absolutely amazing, with the using the voice distorter to muffle his voice in tracks like Gorgeous and Runaway was genius, and having one of the strongest 9 track lineups I've ever seen. Kendrick's voice changing to present a different prospective was also genius, the funk, soul, and jazz combo in the album complimented the storytelling of the album so well and there will never be an album as unique as this for a really long time. Both albums impacting so so many things, MBDTF impacted hip hop as a whole and cemented its place as an all time great album, TPAB impacted society in America and cemented its place as an all time great album. This is only a small list of what each album has done and it all comes down to what you value in music, if you value lyricism, sequencing, and storytelling over grand production, you probably will like TPAB more, and if you like the grand production with the more digestible rapping and top tier features then you'll probably like MBDTF more.

It can get quite to hear your points when you rebute. It’s quite difficult to hear your points when people are cutting each other off. And it can get pretty personal.
Could I suggest this structure:
Project 1: 2 Minutes
Project 2: 2 Minutes.
Project 1: Rebuttal 1
This is where the speaker for project one rebutes the other other speakers points he made on Artistry, Production or Impact.
Project 2: Surr rebuttals.
This is where the speaker for project 2 rebutes the points made by the speaker by project 1 in there rebuttal.
This could really make it easier to hear each of your points and for the listeners to digest.

I love MBDTF a lot and I loved the Good Friday songs that lead up to it. Especially with the BET Cypher that had everyone dressed up in suits with the Runaway film on top of that. But I connect with TPAB a lot more because at that time I was dealing with heavy depression being in the environment where it was nothing but my people killing each other. And tbh I can’t say this about any other album in hip hop but TBAP saved my life. It helped me from committing suicide fr. The transition from “U” to “Alright” alone is fucking insane. Hey Carlo what gives MBDTF the edge?
@@NFRPodcast Personally the versatility and replay value on MBDTF is far better than TPAB, and replay value is the most important factor of an album. TPAB is a rollercoaster of an experience and it is majorly culturally impactful. The replay value isn’t that good though. It’s seriously Kendrick’s least replayable album. MBDTF is a ridiculously theatrical journey with potentially the best replay value of the decade and is far more influential than TPAB was. TPAB is the most impactful album of the 2010’s. Thank you for the feedback, it truly means a lot to us Alex🙏 which album do you prefer?
Anthony clearly won in every argument lu was just talking over him the whole time and being ignorant. Tpab easily is the bigger moment in hip-hop history AND the better album
MBDTF is a one of a kind epic. The lore behind the making of it. Ye's redemption arc. Ye has said that MBDTF is not boundary pushing as Yeezus or 808's and that it was a project to pacify the fans, critics and to reaffirm his standing and his legacy. To architect a project like that, being fully aware of all the impact it would have and making choices according to that, Is a level of self awareness that is, for a lack of a better word, undoubtedly Genius.
A song like Runaway fully showcases those ideas. His agenda to push the boundary, his eclectic taste, his unapologetic awareness of his ego, and how the media and people perceive him to be. And how often that can get his ideas lost in translation(the outro).
We can all agree that we have trouble understanding ourselves and our place in the universe. Individuality is hard to realise. MBDTF is Kanye West at his most self aware. Simply him opening his eyes and looking around fully aware that he is Kanye West and people's idea of him as Kanye West.
i loved this, keeep it up🙌🏼
