Was there labor day weekend. The best thing to do is to bring your bike ( you can I think it's like $12 per bike to ferry over and the island licensed), makes the experience that much better when you stay on the island and there is a different experience when the last ferry for the day goes out with the day-trippers and all is left are the locals and those that are staying on the island...

Hey Joanne, I did some research and found that the island does offer electric scooters to rent at 3 of the bike rental companies. Also, they have the horse drawn carriage taxi services. I'm curious, when did you go? Just this month or earlier in the summer? Were there a lot of restrictions because of covid?? Like mask required on ferry or walking around, etc? My husband and I are going next week. It will be our first time, we can't wait. Thanks for this video😊
Hello! We went in late June. They did require masks on the ferry until you sat down and they had an order they boarded the boat to keep people spaced a little more. The island required masks anywhere inside and they were enforcing it. We kept ours on until we got out of the main st. area. It was a beautiful place to experience! Hope you enjoy it and safe travels!
Hello! I would recommend at least two days if you are staying in the area or on the island. That way you can experience it after the tourists leave in the evening and in the morning before the ferries start arriving. Next time we go, we will be doing that!
Thanks for sharing this. Love your rig. Are there any ferries anywhere In the US that allow your rv on it? So the dogs came on the ferry with you? Ive never seen this place before i really like it. I wanna go visit. I bet the town is expensive. My father in law lives in Berrin Springs.
You can actually take your own bikes. It will cost extra on the ferry so let them know when buying your tickets. It does say no ebikes though. Thanks for watching!
There are a few different companies that do bike rentals as soon as you get off the ferry. If you Google “bike rentals on mackinac island” a list of them will come up. They do let you reserve ahead so that they are ready when you get there. Have fun and safe travels!
I am interested in this island. Just curious, is it pronounced as “Mackinaw”? I thought that’s how you said it. I learned about this island from garden answer videos and looks beautiful.
Of course it feels like Disney. That's what people expect. and unfortunately that's what they want. But that's only the main street. I know you spent a shit like ad of cash too.
The island is pretty awesome. I think a feature of the island is that it is stuck in time with no vehicles. However, I definitely understand wanting to camp there and avoid those island hotel fees. Thanks for watching!
@@Jemalacane0 You can lock a bike up, they have bike racks and people lock them up all the time. What you can't do is drag your bike on the sidewalk and lock it to a pole.
wow there was no $25 to park last time we went. I'm handicapped & can't park further out. What a rip off. For the wife- it's Mackinac/Mackinaw regardless of how it's spelled. It's French. Never Mack in nack.
The "wife's" name is Cindy. It was a beautiful place to visit and we are aware of the pronunciation. Appreciate you sharing your POV on it. Have a great day!
I had a miserable time. They have everything organized to a "T" and if you go half a step off the "right" way, confusion and few apologies. I have problems with extreme anxiety and depression and am often in a kind o "fog", easily confused, which happened to me frequently. O ne carriage driver, from 7 feet up and pointed "its right there". No landmarks. Just "it's right there." Well 7 feet up in the air and me down on the ground, "right there" was not helpful. If you order a taxi, you must order two, one to go and one to come. I was not told that and was left stranded at the ATM in town. My cell phone was not working. Finally stopped at a hotel, bar who called another taxi for me., Other irritating problems. Do not go unless you're a very patient, flexible person and well prepared. (If you forget a computer cord. for example, there are none available that I could find.)
Sorry you had a bad experience there. We are very much "go with the flow" when needed so it wasn't as bad for us. Someone should definitely research before going because it is something you should be prepared for. Hope you get to go back and enjoy the beautiful island some day. Have a good one!
Too bad you had a miserable time, maybe it's just not for you. We go there 1-3 times a year and love it. The ATM is right downtown on Market street, you can't miss it and it's close to anything downtown. In northern Michigan there is not a walmart or big store that has everything on every corner, ya have to plan ahead. Still don't understand your comment, "organized to a T and step off the right way". No idea but people are friendly and can point you to where ever or what ever you are looking for.
I saw this video looking up that particular island because my daughter and son-in-law went there this morning. They actually did really good. No problems getting on or off and they seemed to enjoy all the attention they were getting. Lol. A plane would be nice! Thanks for watching!
Mack Island is nice. SOO crowded though but well worth it
Once we got out on the trails, it wasn’t as bad. It was definitely worth it 😊
I'm curious, when did you go? Just this month or earlier in the summer? Were there a lot of restrictions because of covid?? Like mask required on ferry or walking around, etc? My husband and I are going next week. It will be our first time, we can't wait. Thanks for this video😊
Hello! We went in late June. They did require masks on the ferry until you sat down and they had an order they boarded the boat to keep people spaced a little more. The island required masks anywhere inside and they were enforcing it. We kept ours on until we got out of the main st. area. It was a beautiful place to experience! Hope you enjoy it and safe travels!
How many days/nights would you recommend?
Thanks! The dogs loved the ferry and the island. There are ferries that allow RV's, we haven't been to any yet. :) Thanks for watching!
Can we take our own bikes to the island or we must rent them on the island?
You can actually take your own bikes. It will cost extra on the ferry so let them know when buying your tickets. It does say no ebikes though. Thanks for watching!
This is my home State and i have ONLY been there one time in 22 years kinda sad really
We enjoyed it very much. There are places we haven't explored in our home state too! Thanks for watching.
Not sad. If you really wanted to go you would’ve gone more.
How do you rent bikes? Can they be reserved in advance?
There are a few different companies that do bike rentals as soon as you get off the ferry. If you Google “bike rentals on mackinac island” a list of them will come up. They do let you reserve ahead so that they are ready when you get there. Have fun and safe travels!
No visit to Grand Hotel?
Not this time but we will hopefully be back to explore it. 😊
Hi
I have enjoyed this place in August 2019,, very good,, want to visit again :: Goa India
It was a great place to visit and glad you got to experience it as well! Thank you for watching!
Why didnt you just leave the rv im mackina city
We stayed in Munising so we could explore that are too!
If you walked around the Island it’s 9 miles.
Would have loved to walk around but part of the road was closed due to wash out while we were there. We will definitely be back!
I am interested in this island. Just curious, is it pronounced as “Mackinaw”? I thought that’s how you said it. I learned about this island from garden answer videos and looks beautiful.
The island is pronounced Mack-i-naw 😊
Hehe I’m here from Garden Answer too! How dreamy was the landscaper?? 🙈
I went there
Hope you had a great time. I know we did!
1StrangeAdventure thanks I did it was a very fun experience!
Beautiful but too many tourists, doing touristy things haha. The loudspeakers ruin the atmosphere.
There are a lot of tourists but once you get away from the main harbor area, it was really nice! Thanks!
Really... have you been to the Island...?
No loudspeakers on the island just in the ferry.
It’s cheaper to bring your own bikes rather than renting them.
I agree! We didn’t have bikes at the time but we will have ours with us next time. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@1StrangeAdventure You’re welcome! Just don’t forget bike locks. I worked for 3 seasons on the island and unlocked bikes magically disappear a lot.
Puppy 😂
😊
Welcome to Michigan Fudgies!!
Love them!
Of course it feels like Disney. That's what people expect. and unfortunately that's what they want. But that's only the main street. I know you spent a shit like ad of cash too.
Lol you are so right! That’s why we walked the trails the last time we were there, more peaceful 😊
Sorry but it's nothing like Disneyland other then it being a tourist trap like Disney.
Yes, the reference was to the tourists huddled in the main harbor with the streets lined with shops. Thanks!
It pisses me off that one cannot camp on the island.
The island is pretty awesome. I think a feature of the island is that it is stuck in time with no vehicles. However, I definitely understand wanting to camp there and avoid those island hotel fees. Thanks for watching!
@@1StrangeAdventure It also pisses me off that someone cannot lock up a bicycle. So, I guess I won't be going there.
If you park farther away in the free lot a tram will take you to the ferry.
Not “nack”… “naw”
Thanks! We will remember that for next time 😊
I had a miserable time. They have everything organized to a "T" and if you go half a step off the "right" way, confusion and few apologies.
I have problems with extreme anxiety and depression and am often in a kind o "fog", easily confused, which happened to me frequently. O
ne carriage driver, from 7 feet up and pointed "its right there". No landmarks. Just "it's right there." Well 7 feet up in the air and me down on the ground, "right there" was not helpful.
If you order a taxi, you must order two, one to go and one to come. I was not told that and was left stranded at the ATM in town. My cell phone was not working. Finally stopped at a hotel, bar who called another taxi for me.,
Other irritating problems. Do not go unless you're a very patient, flexible person and well prepared. (If you forget a computer cord. for example, there are none available that I could find.)
The island is very small, what is the problem?
Do you know JESUS as your personal Savior ?
🙏🙏🙏
I saw this video looking up that particular island because my daughter and son-in-law went there this morning. I just know Enjoying your life in this world is nice, however if we don't know and love Jesus snd have done nothing for him, we have nothing and we are nothing.
Marvel not that I said unto you, you must be born again. John 3:7❤🙏
I just pray while my "babies" 🥰are there that they do SOMETHING for God
Mackinac and Mackinaw are both pronounced Mackinaw!!!!!!
Yes. We realize that now. It slipped and wasn’t caught in the edit. Thanks for watching!
