    If I had a nickel for every time I heard a diesel bro call a compound turbo set-up "twin turbos" I'd have enough money to pay for the never ending truck repair bills of everyone who thinks they need 1,000hp daily driver...

    Good info. i ran a S483/96/1.32 over a 63/68/14 on a 04.5 CR with alot of fuel. Spooled extremely fast and was very clean on street tune. When on the Hot tune truck made just shy of 1,000whp and we limited it with the gate to 85-90 psi. More then that drive pressure would rocket.

    Any chance you could do the same video but talk more about what you would need to adjust for the low end torque and towing end of the spectrum? I'd love to get a real quick spool down low at 12-1500 rpm, not too worried about the top end but still need it of course.

Looking to get above the 700 to 1000 rear wheel horsepower range. Looking at yhe 14mm stroker injection pump with the supply pimp attached to it. Now the compound turbo kit. Looking towards the s480 with one step up over stock turbo but which one? This just a project ive always eanted to do. Any suggestions?

    I have a 2001 Dodge 3500 and I pull a 30' toyhauler. 5.9 Cummins with NV5600 6 speed manual Transmission and 3.73 differential gears. I noticed you didn't say anything at all about EGT other than to say certain things make a lot of heat. I'm not really interested in super high horsepower. What I want is to be able to use all of the power my truck has without the EGT going sky high. I also want quick spool up and that means compounds. My engine is factory rated at 245 HP and 505 lb/ft of torque. If I could just use that all on a long steep grade that would be great. I don't like high RPM. The truck I used to drive redlined at 2100 RPM and I know I'll be turning more than that with this smaller engine but I don't really want to turn more than about 2500 RPM. I'd like to keep it between 1700 and 2250 if I can and EGT no more than 1200 maximum. I've had to downshift on a couple of grades to 4th gear to maintain any decent EGT. Given my distaste for high RPM on this engine, that means I'm only passing the most heavily loaded truckers at 45 mph in a 65 or 75 mph zone. So I don't want to increase fueling, it has plenty of that I just want a better air flow. What size turbo should I put on to feed air to my Holset HX35?

    Hi Nick, please help me out. I'm doing a compound setup on my vehicle but I can't find any info on anyone that has done a compound setup on my specific vehicle.
    It's a Ford Ranger 3.2liter 5 cylinder TD.
    Currently I'm making 350hp (stock 197hp) & 750Nm (stock 470Nm) at flywheel. I want to be able to make around 450hp and 1000+ Nm.
    I have no clue how to size the bigger turbo as I want to use the stock turbo that has slightly been modified(hybrid).
    My current turbo has a lot of turbo lag and won't be suitable for the setup.
    Where do I start and can anyone help please?
    I have another borgwarner K27 turbo, maybe that will work with the stock Garrett powermax turbo...?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  8 месяцев назад +1

      @Nortifyer Your modified stock turbo should work well as a secondary turbo for a compound setup. The BorgWarner K27 would also work and probably get you the 450hp you are looking for out of it too. It's all about finding a turbo that comes into its efficacy range right as your secondary turbo is falling out of its efficacy range. If you might be looking to make more than 450hp later down the line something like a BorgWarner S252 or S257 would also be a good match for the power you're going for combined with the efficacy range of your stock turbo. Check out our video on sizing your compound turbo system for more information on the topic: ruclips.net/video/oSdusJZG9AU/видео.html

    I am currently running a s476 sx-e 1.15 AR over a s361 sx-3 .83 AR (non gated) with 30% over injectors. On stock tune it builds boost quick and tows nicely with egt's maintaing sub 1100f however I am concerned if I run it in tune 5 (650HP) my drive pressures may be too high due to the restrictive .83 housing. I am planning on adding an external gate to relieve drive pressure from the secondary turbo and feed into the primary but am unsure what # spring to start with. What would you recommend? Do you think it is even necessary with my injector size and HP?

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  10 месяцев назад

      @hallasnackbar1865 It really depends on the boost pressure you plan on running along with the wastegate actuator you plan on running. If you let me know what those are I can probably help you figure out what will work best.

    • @hallasnackbar1865
      @hallasnackbar1865 10 месяцев назад

      @@Duramaxtuner I did not have a specific boost pressure in mind, I just want to keep both turbos in their optimal efficiency range and avoid over driving and damaging the smaller turbo. I have 30% over injectors and a 5 position switch with tune 5 maxing out at about 650 HP. I have not used tune 4 or 5 since switching to the smaller exhaust housings . I don't race the truck and rarely if ever run past the 3.25k rpm factory redline. The truck had T4 .91 and T6 1.58 housings before and it made 650HP at 3500 rpm but was really laggy sub 2200 rpm and the power was unusable for towing.

    • @Duramaxtuner
      @Duramaxtuner  10 месяцев назад

      @@hallasnackbar1865 You will want to base your turbo's boost pressure off of the efficiency range of the compressor map for that turbo (if you have access to one). If you are exceeding, or at the limits of, the efficiency range then executing your plan to re-route the waste gas into the secondary turbo wouldn't be a bad idea.

      It's not unusual to see 1:1 drive pressure below ~2750 RPM climbing past that, may peak 1.5-1.6:1 towards 3500 RPM. It really depends on RPM, load, and turbo sizing.

    Got a 2000 Cummins 6 speed manual, has 200hp injectors, headstuds, Ejwa, airdog 100 and some other small things done, I have a 63/68/.70 turbo on now and it runs pretty decent. I’ve toyed with the idea to eventually run compounds. I don’t tow with the truck at all I just play with it. What would be a good turbo to pair with what I got? Minimal lag and decent driving manners, any thoughts? Thanks!

    Hey so to start out I’m a missionary in Haiti and have a 2011 Isuzu Dmax which is a foreign country built truck not sold in the US. But it is super ridiculously slow and we get into some bad situations sometimes down here especially lately where I want to get the heck out of there as quick as possible. That being said it has a 4 cylinder 2.5l turbo diesel with a super tiny turbo on it and the engine is fully mechanical no computer to change anything. I’ve increased the fuel flow of my injector pump slightly and that already made a difference but would like to pick up some more if possible. Should I look into a compound setup so it runs cooler in such hot temps here or am I better off just going with a little larger single turbo or even a factory same size just with a line to the wastegate and throwing a T in it just for some small gains. Again not looking to blow the engine up but don’t love how slow it is. Also on a tight tight budget haha 😂

    • @darktimber117
      @darktimber117 2 года назад

      I wouldn't go any bigger with your secondary. If anything just do an external waste gate on the set up you have now if there's a real pressure issue. The trouble with the vp44 is that you really aren't going to make more than 600hp reliably, and the 62/72 setup you have is good for 650-700. So going larger on the secondary is going to gain you pretty much nothing, just loss of money on a turbo you don't need.

      John Davis you really want to focus on the turbine sizing if you’re planning to run the kit hard. Think small compressor (love the 63s with 480) and make sure it’s got LLY vanes or large like in our Stealth lineup. Avoid LBZ and LMM exhaust housings. Unless you’re under 700rwhp, then you’re not pushing the kit hard enough matter ;)

      All depends on what you want to spend. I went semi cheap on the turbos: My setup on my early 04 is a he351 (opended up wastegate and billet wheel) over a s475 using crazy Carl's kit. 60% nozzles and dual fuellers. I tow with it all the time and it spools similar to stock. Smarty on lvl 4 with no added timing, torque, or rail pressure. Egt's can get in the 1300-1400 range on long pulls with a 25k lb combined weight in 6th gear but doesn't have any issues keeping up speed.
      Previous truck was a 01 24v and had 100% injectors and bd race twins. I couldn't tow with it at all. Laggy and high egts. I only had an edge tuner back then, so there are probably better options now. I like the smaller primary turbo and injector setup better for towing.

    • @Duramaxtuner

      A stocker/s475 kit is going to give you the most bang for your buck. the Stealth 64/s480 kit will make more peak power but it's hard to beat the $/HP ratio of using your stock turbo (assuming it is in good condition now).
