Snake Eater is one of very few songs that I sing along with always, in any situation with no shame. I'm not a singer at all, but this song has such a strong connection for me. It's so whimsical and serious at the same time.
It's perfect for many situations. Vibing, sneaking through a jungle on a mission to find out about a nuclear-equipped tank, taking a car ride with a mysterious man who dresses like the Lone Ranger, and any time you have to climb a ladder for more than 20 seconds or so.
Its one of those songs that if you've heard of it or played the game its practically impossible not to sing along to this. I have a few songs like this They are just filled with so much joy, or nostalgia its like a compulsion you are happy to answer.
@@misterfevillord1588 I think this song wouldn't have so much meaning to me, if it wasn't for the 4 minutes ladder climbing while the song starts kicking in. It's like the evolution of the elevator music, in videogames.
Gotta give a shout out to Cynthia Harrell who was the one to sing the song. I know Donna Burke gets plenty of recognition from us fans of the franchise, but Harrell needs some love too. And from what I hear, even though she's retired she would love to do an encore performance of Snake Eater.
Yes, she was the original singer for Snake Eater and she deserved a big credit. Not aware she was already retired but Donna Burke version is still good too. Both is good.
Hearing the opening notes of Snake Eater triggers something akin to a Pavlovian response, that practically begs you to sing out "what a thrill..." seconds later. Same thing when it gets to the chorus and it gets to "I'm still in a dream, SNAKE EATEEERRRR." *ba bump ba dum*
When I was a kid and got this game for the PS2 and played it, I was soooo darn amazed. And the music was so damn phenomenal and my mother actually asked me if I'm watching a Bond film and I showed her the game and she was like "that song is awesome" I have really fond memories playing this game and it was also a huge factor for me because I learned English while playing it with the English voices and the subtitles being in my native language. Without this game it would've taken me alot more time to learn it properly. It also gave me a tiny bit of an edge when I was able to pick up English in school as secondary course (we were forced to learn French as a main course)
I feel like the mic Cynthia Harrell sang into when that theme was recorded needed a cigarette, cabfare and perhaps a therapist because it will NEVER forget the ride she took it on. Lmao
As silly as the tree frog line is, I like how it’s shown in the trailer. It’s a good amount of humor in the serious nature of Snake Eater. Since the main theme is survival. Survive to finish the mission. Do what you have to.
Snake Eater is the only MGS game I've ever played and this song brought an actual tear to my eye. It just does something to me and that sequence where you're climbing the ladder is just *chef's kiss.* Nobody else would have tried something like that.
It brings me so much joy seeing Marco get giddy over music and especially Snake Eater. MGS3 is a game I never got to play because I was never allowed to have a gaming console other than a DS and PSP until the PS3 and had never heard of Metal Gear but I now love Metal Gear so much that this remake is just the most excited I've been for a game. We're eating good lately, first the RE4 remake and now MGS3, it's like we're back in the 2004/2005 era again.
Everyone gave it their all in the recording. As a brass player I love the big bandy/James bond/pseudo disco amalgamation we've got going on here. I never really got into the games at the time but I cannot ignore the legacy MGS has given us. I cried the first time I heard snake eater without any real attachment or context. That's powerful. Hopefully the remake will do it justice.
MGS3 is the one game of the series I've tried multiple times to play, but never get far: something about how it plays discourages me from progressing. But I keep coming back to this song and loving every moment listening to it.
This was my game series when I was little, I played 2-3 on my ps2 and must have beaten 3 10+ times. One of my random memories is being in our living room while my mom napped on our couch, when the scene where EVA and Snake are by the campfire in the cave came on I had the thought “oh man, I’ll definitely get in trouble if my mom wakes up and sees me watching this” so I jumped up and his behind the recliner I was sitting in so o could still hear the cutscene but so I couldn’t see it. My mom indeed woke up, and my excuse worked like a charm. I also screamed followed by a few tears when I saw this announcement. And a bunch of yells when I saw it’s coming to steam.
I loved how much you were enjoying this incredible song, it's truly brilliant. I remember how exciting the build up to this game was when magazines were still the place for updates. Hideo and his team poured their hearts and souls into every frame of this game, and it will be forever loved by the fans.
Hearing that masterpiece again brought back memories. Snake Eater was the first game I played to literal death. I played the game so much that I wore out the glue that held the disc together. Literal THOUSANDS of hours on the game. Three different discs that gave their lives to make me happy as a kid. Now, if we could get Resident Evil 5 remade, too.
Ive never playedMetal Gear but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE a lot of their themes - Heavens Divide; Sins of the Father; The Best is Yet to Come; Calling Through the Night. Donna Burke is one of my fave singers from video game music because of Metal gear themes
8-Bit Big Band did a wonderful cover of this song. Snake Eater is such a great piece of music and somehow captures that _perfect_ opening-credits feeling.
I have literally gone and re-listened to Snake Eater and Heaven's Divide on repeat before the MGS3 remake was announced. MGS3 and Peace Walker pretty much cemented Big Boss as my favorite Snake, and those two songs in particular made the game for me. And speaking of MGS3, Starsailor's Way to Fall broke me.
It took me a long time to realize this after finishing the game, but it’s worth noting the lyrics of the song are about the relationship between the boss and snake.

Hi, Marco. I'm surprised you haven't listened to the music from Death Stranding yet. You really should. BB's theme and Once, there was an explosion. Well, for instance. Would love to see your reviews
Never played any of the metal gear games, only heard this song like once or twice, but for some reason when I was watcthe trailer, my brain just sang out "snake eater" when the crock jumped the snake. I wasn't expecting anything though, and as the trailer rolled on I saw Snake and I just started laughing man. Guess that song is just that catchy and memorable. Definitely good with a capital GOOD.
Ciao Marco! You should check out on your time, Don Burke, she's a Metal Gear voice actress that sings these jazz songs as well! She has some of her singing work on studio and live performances with orchestra on her channel! And you're absolutely right about the James Bond theme vibe. Kojima used 007 as inspiration for Snake, specially this particular game. Even the British major in the game is kind of a 4th wall breaking when he fanboys over 007 during the calls lol.
Yeah, a very cinematic song reminiscent of 007. Definitely one of my favorite tracks of MGS as whole and very central to the theme of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Love me some Snake Eater, would love to see you react to Heaven’s Divide someday too! I think it’s surprisingly underappreciated and I think you could get some interesting analysis out of it.

You should do a reaction/break down to The Best is Yet to Come. That and Snake Eater are def two of the best songs in the entire series.
The song is severely underrated. Absolute masterpiece. 💯
I love the main theme Snake Eater, recommend you hear the "Love theme" of Metal Gear Soild 4
What a thrill!
Yeah, a very cinematic song reminiscent of 007. Definitely one of my favorite tracks of MGS as whole and very central to the theme of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Thank you.
Love me some Snake Eater, would love to see you react to Heaven’s Divide someday too! I think it’s surprisingly underappreciated and I think you could get some interesting analysis out of it.
Sure!
Metal Gear Solid 3 is the only game I've played from the franchise and I only have fond memories. Yes, the story is a little crazy. But the theme song... The journey... It's a wonderful experience. I cannot wait to play it again.
this bring me back to old memory when i watch my old cousin play it, the snake eater track remind me of the old James bond opening music.
PS: also listen to it again, make me hunger to eat eel, frogs n snake :P
If you haven't heard the Japanese version you should give it a listen, it's a very different vibe.
