I haven't started decorating for Christmas yet 🙃 I'm currently painting my livingroom. Nothing like having company coming to make me kick into high gear! 😆
MaCenna, don’t feel like you have to put all the ornaments on now ! Collecting them thru the years and cherishing ones made or given by friends and family is what’s best about decorating the Christmas tree ! I Love your cottage, your family Romeo and your Mom , little Kinsley too ❤
Tinsel done 'perfectly ' is 1 strand at a time, working from the inside out, top to bottom and done after all the balls , garland, etc. are done. It takes a lot of meditative patience, best done with music & wine . I wish we had a photo of the tree my mom did (many years ago). It was sooo beautiful. It took her about 12 hrs. ... enjoy the process.
this!!!!! one strand is what makes the tree have that glow from the tinsel instead of in bunches!!! i did mine this year and it took me about four hours for a medium size tree!
You are correct, one strand at a time. That's how my mother started each year, but once us children started to "help", whole handfuls went on! Tinsel all over the house for months! I as an adult, don't like tinsel or garland on the tree, just the small lights and many ornaments, ball kind and figures, musical instruments, sleighs etc. Am fortunate to have my Grandmother's creche and beautiful (fragile) ornaments from Germany. So many happy memories involved.
I remember trying to help my mom when I was a young girl with the ice cycles tinsel. And she too would say one strand at a time. I thought that seemed a bit much and totally became uninterested to help. So much work!
Favorite part was Romeo saying, "Ew!" at the end!! I think the tree is going to look great with or without the tinsel! Love seeing you videos every week!
We called what you’re calling tinsel, icicles. We always put icicles on the tree when I was small and my kids loved doing it as well. I don’t use it anymore because I don’t particularly care for the way it looks now. When we were kids we would scoot around the carpet in our socks and then get close to the tree and stick our finger out and the icicle would fly up and touch our hand and zap us with static electricity. Lol We loved it.
Macenna every day for a month? I’m so lonely and broken-hearted this year. This will seriously keep me going and also inspired to DIY. First my table! I might record it and start my channel. Anyone who wants to subscribe and help me through this season and transition please feel free! I love you Macenna. Thank you for being so wonderful to us
I’m 67 and when I was growing up, my mother put LOTS on tinsel on our tree every year and she was a pro at doing it. She always said you can only put on a few strands at a time and plan for it to take awhile. Me…I don’t get near the stuff! Also, I had to laugh out loud when Romeo tossed the top section of the tree up there, I have 3 sons all about his age and I could totally picture them doing that… and me screaming! 😂😂 Looking forward to our daily dose of Vlogmas. Thank you.
Same! (67 and with a mom who loved tinsel) We experimented and did it lots of ways - a single strand at a time, 2-4 strands together (Mom was a big fan of 3), even standing back and just throwing them at the tree in handfuls - they sort of cascade down as they land so they’re not quite as clumpy as it sounds. It’s how my Dad’s family did their trees so we had to give it a try. We even used to try them crumpled and then straightened out a bit before draping and I was a fan of that until they started making them from plastic film and they didn’t crumple any more. It created a lot of reflective surfaces, but they weren’t as shiny. I even went through a phase where I broke her heart and was “Team Romeo” so we had two years without icicles (what we called them). I always had them on my tree until I stopped doing s tree a few years ago. I had them stockpiled from years of buying them in the after Christmas sales for pennies! Okay, now I want to put up my Christmas tree… I’ve got all the antique and vintage ornaments from my grandparents’ childhood trees, my parents’ childhood trees and my childhood trees! I wish I had my own, but my daughter has them. Bittersweet, but she loves them and now my grandchildren are learning to love them, too.
@@Lucinda_Jackson tinsel when I was a kid was made of foil. That was outlawed because it conducted electricity and started fires. The plastic tinsel that they came up with after that is so light weight and will blow off if you walk past the tree too fast. It is also super static electricity magnets and will attach to everything if the humidity level is low in the house. All that being said means I'm on Team Romeo also. I got a bunch of reflective icicle ornaments that I would hang as close to the tip of the branches to look like real icicles.

Beautiful tree! Happy Vlogmas!

Let’s all just take a moment for the vlogmas intro 👏🏽👏🏽 from the Christmas decor transition to the anthropology advent calendar… it’s giving Disney movie vibes ✨ I just love it!
We've done part of our Christmas decorating, we left the tree for this weekend. Btw, the secret to tinsel is to get a few of those strands like you were but then toss it up (underhand toss with a sharp flick of your wrist upward). The tinsel naturally separates with some landing towards the top and some falling lower. Then you can place individual strands at the end where you think you need it.
The painting your mom did goes so well with the color of the bookshelves. I’m glad that you finished out the bookcases-it just goes much better with the cottage style.
Romeo almost telling us the surprise you weren’t ready to share yet was hilarious but I’m so excited to hear what it is! Also love that you are a subtitles person on your Tv 😂I can’t hear without my subtitles!
@@Lucinda_Jackson I hope so! They just aren't suited for small town life at this stage. Babies come, maybe and to be close to Cathy but right now they are trying to for real nest! Haha
I am so excited for you both !! Your first Christmas in your cottage !! Girl, you guys feel like family, and I know that I’m definitely not alone in feeling this way ❤️❤️
Hello Macenna, I'm from Germany and in my childhood there was no christmastree in my family without tinsel. But in these days it was made of real aluminium and vers different to those you can buy today. My grandma irons it every year because it was expensive. She put it piece by piece on the tree and it looked beautiful. This was in the 70s 🥰
Yes, It’s time for Vlogmas🎄🎄🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 Thank you MaCenna for sharing so much with us. I truly admire your work ethic & how much love you put in each project. I haven’t finish decorating for Christmas 😩
I feel it’s more common in Norway to decorate for Christmas later in December because you have to get through advent first. We often end up decorating the tree on the 22 of December😅 but everyone’s different ❤️🎄⭐️
Yes!!!!!!I don't believe it. The time has come for another vlogmas. Last year it was my first and now after such a long renovation journey here we are again!!!!💝🤸🤸🤸🤸🤸
So excited for VlogMas!! The tree looks great! I will say that Tinsel can be VERY dangerous for pets. Watching the tinsel go up, I thought of your little lady playing with the thread earlier in the video and worry that she may get a bit too curious about the Tinsel. So something to keep in mind. Even if you keep it high on the tree, it has a tendency to slip and fall to the floor.
Vets warn about it every year..please if you use it keep an eye on the pup pup...the tree is beautiful with r with out it with all your great vintage finds
I had to stop the video and comment because when you were struggling just a tiny bit to lift the heavy section of tree your Romeo stepped in and helped. It was magic! I live the two of you! So sweet! This video made me so happy! Your tree is beautiful!
We still put old fashioned icicles on our tree. Ours are iridescent so they sort of look like they're holographic rather than silver lead ones. I put them on a branch and pull them through the needles, so only about 1" is hanging on a branch. The rest is dangling down like real icicles. Both the tree and the living room look gorgeous! And Kinsley is extra adorable today. Thank you for your first first vlogmas video. Can't wait to hear what Romeo and you have for a surprise.
We just finished decorating our boat today. The mast running down through the main salon to the keek becomes our "tree". We wrap with artificial boughs and lights and then add fresh greenery and decorations...I add fresh Cedar boughs where I lay our Santa and wax trees as a display. You are way ahead of the game for me! Happy Christmas! xo
This is my first Vlogmas!!! How exciting, I am so grateful to have found your channel this year and followed the progress of the cottage and the vlogs in general. You are just an amazing soul and it is lovely to find something nice to watch!🎄🎄🎄🎄
Loving the intro with all the elements including Kingsley, so good. Makes me appreciate it even more knowing how long it takes to make. Loving vlogmas, can't believe how quick this year has gone. Happy vlogmas xxx
Just started and will be going to cut our tree tomorrow! I don't know how much or when I will be able to finish and be able to celebrate as my husband is ill and will be back and forth to doctors! I am wishing you and all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I am doing my best to carry on! God is Good!❤️🙏
Yes, one tinsel at a time but not placing one at a time just throw in the direction you want and they fall beautifully into place. This is how we did it and our tree looked fabulous but not too many. Thank you for sharing Shabbat Shalom 🕊
In The Netherlands we celebrate the feast of "Sint NIcolaas" on the 5th of December. Lots of people, including myself, will wait untill the old guy has sailed back to Spain where he lives before we start decorating for Christmas. As our family will celebrate his feast a bit later this year, I will start decorating after 12/12.
When my daughter was born on Dec 4th one year my husband wanted her day to be hers and not part of the Christmas celebration soooo… no decorations up until the 5th. Now that she is an adult and out of my home I feel guilty to begin before the 5th to decorate! Your home is looking so cozy! Love your Vlogmas tradition.
If your secret project is what I think it is I'm super excited! Also tinsel can be a bit tricky, but my parents do it on the tree every year and it looks so pretty! Make sure to do like two strands at a time max, and only at spots where it can hang freely. When it rests on other branches it starts to look messy quick. I have yet to do my Christmas decorating but I'm gonna do it this weekend once I've finished my deep cleaning.
Vlogmas 🎉! I‘m so excited! MaCenna thank you so much for your time, love and effort that you put into vlogmas! I‘m from Germany, so your Videos goes online in the evening. And what is better than end my day with a little time spend with you and your content ❤.
I love your blogs!!!. My house was completely burned on may 3. We lost everything including our 4 dogs (2 Yorkies, a Chihuahua and a shitzu) and our car. It was very bad, but we are grateful that we are alive. Next week we will be moving in and I will decorate it. I have learned a lot with your blogs. Merry Christmas 🎄💗🎄💗🎄
@@lauralarregoity5903 Oh, how heartbreaking! I’m so sorry! But Christmas will be very special this year because you are alive and strong and ready to make new memories. All the best Christmas wishes to you! ☃️🎄🎅🏻🎄☃️
I can’t believe it’s been a year already…happy holidays to everyone…peace & love…and to the real star is “Kinsley” who always makes me smile…I love her❤…thank you, you guys, what fun…OC🌊
I love it! Do the tensile. Two or three strands on the tips of each branch, but put all your ornaments on first. Go with your inspiration! You got this !!
The tree is looking so beautiful…fits the cottages personality perfectly already! Sweet Kinsley reminds me of a little lamb…she watches over you with such devotion. Adorable. Romeo will come to like the tinsel when he sees the finished look. He is more open minded than most!
Kinsley is sooo adorable bouncing all over 💞 The tree is amazing in firefly mode.. The tinsel covers the original lighting and beauty of the tree, try not to put too much on ...just enough to make it sparkle a little more 💞
I’m not into tinsel either so I get how Romeo feels and it can be very hard to get off your tree before you put it away. Most people that use tinsel use real trees where they can just throw them away instead of having to pick that stuff off the branches. Good luck with yours.
I’m old enough to remember when icicles actually had a bit of metal so we pulled them all off the tree every year and saved as many as we could. Even after they became plastic, we pulled them off and threw them away so animals wouldn’t eat them and they wouldn’t blow all over the neighborhood!
You're cottage is turning out to be one of the most beautiful I've ever seen! My husband and I decorated Nov 1st, but it's never too late for great inspiration! ❤
I've been waiting for this moment for what seems like forever! Been with you every step of the way. I'm not crying! Tinsel is life! PS: LUV seeing Kingsley in the intro again!
I just love you,Kingsley, romeo, mom macenna, and everyone...you are soooo kind, talented ofcourse...you really gives me warmth....I would love if you get a real tree for the outside...it will be soo magical....and sorry the tensile thing on tree was honestly bad...🤭and honestly can believe it's been year, still remember those beautiful moments of vlogmas 2021 with you guys....

So happy you’re doing vlogmas!! I hope you’re planning to do a frame around the tv! Can’t wait to see all the projects you have in store, the cottage looks beautiful already!❤
The cottage is looking so good! I love the idea of putting a frame around your tv. We also have a frame tv and would love to put a frame on it but I refuse to spend the $700 they want for it. I really hope you are planning to do a video on how you make your frame so I can hopefully follow along and make one for mine. Love Vlogmas!
Love the start of vlogmas. If Romeo lets you keep the tinsel, I would be careful with it around Kinsley. It could be cause for some vet visits if she (or your stray neighborhood cats) swallow it.
I’m a child of the ‘50’s & 60’s so we always had tinsel on our trees. The trick is patience when placing the tinsel. You need to place each one on separately, you can put several strands on each branch. For tinsel to look beautiful, you will need a lot of it. I can remember we used to save the tinsel from year to year, and we’d also buy more each year. When we took down the tree, we’d have to remove each piece one-by-one and safely store them in a flat box so they didn’t become all bunched up. It was a painstaking process, but the tree always looked so pretty covered in tinsel.
I’m so excited for vlogmas to be back!!! The intro to last years vlogmas with the cottage and Kensley was my favorite! It always gave me all the good vibes and I’m loving this years as well😊
We just brought out our trees and putting them up today. Does anyone else do multiple trees in their house? Usually I set up early, but November went by so fast!
We had 2 growing up. There was a big one in the living room. And we were lucky to have a huge room off the living room with French doors that was our playroom and we had one in there, too. We decorated it with white paper snowflakes and colorful paper chain garlands. We tried stringing popcorn a couple of times, but we ate more than we strung and didn’t know you were supposed to use popcorn that was a few days old so we got frustrated when it would break. We moved and then just had one tree, but I always had one in my bedroom. As an adult, I’ve only had one big tree and small trees in my daughter’s room and the guest room.
We’re closing on a house next Wednesday and I will definitely decorate as soon as we get the keys!! You’ve inspired me to renovate my house myself and I can’t wait to get started on my kitchen! Love you girl💕
❤❤❤ love the intro ! When sealing a darker color, tint the poly with your paint to avoid streaking or cloudyness 😉😉😉 can't wait to see the tree completed ❤❤❤
Just be very careful with tinsel....if kinsley eats it , the tinsel can become lodged in her instestines....I had a dog that happened to and he had to have surgery to remove it
Love the tinsel !! Had that on every Christmas tree when I was growing up Very vintage maybe even antique !!! It’s supposed to look like icicles. One or two strands at a time. Takes time but the results are gorgeous !! Have fun
I started decorating in November with painting most of my ornaments. 2 out of four trees are completed and I’ve redone the mantel 3 times 🤪. It’s been a struggle this year. Still not completely finished, but I’m trying to be okay with it and not force it. My mother did tinsel trees all the time when we were little. Magical and beautiful. Just don’t let Kinsley eat it. So enjoyed watching her excitement with the unwrapping of each ornament. Looking forward to watching your vlogs everyday this season. Just remember to breathe! ❤️🎄❤️

When the outside is decorated, maybe we will have a live action opener of Kinsley popping up in the window of the Christmas cottage!🎄♥️🐶
Then you can place individual strands at the end where you think you need it.
no to the tossing, thats too sloppy lol
Think romeo is right about the tinsel, the tree is beautiful without it, great to have vlogmas back, good Christmas vibes 🌲🎄🎅
My hearing is fine but, like you, I miss too much without captions. I always use them when they’re available.
I bet they are buying a house in LA!
@@Bluegrassprincess
I bet they’re buying THE house! The one she fell in love with!
@@Lucinda_Jackson I hope so! They just aren't suited for small town life at this stage. Babies come, maybe and to be close to Cathy but right now they are trying to for real nest! Haha
@@Bluegrassprincess Yeah either that or they are launching the online shop.
I agree with Romeo, no tinsel . I love the tree and vintage decorations.
Thank you so much!!!!
I’m so happy I get to see you everyday. It’s a similar feeling to a friend coming to visit from out of town
I LOVE KINSLEY'S ATTENTIVENESS!!!!
In my experience tinsel makes the lights that much more twinkly. Put it on thin not globbed. Its looking gorgeous. I love it!!
Happy Christmas! xo
It’s the most wonderful time of the year indeed Vlogmas 2022 ❤
ahhhh vlogmas! you’re the only youtubers vlogmas i watch consistently i’m so excited
YOU’VE WAITED SO LONG TO DECORATE FOR CHRISTMAS!! Watching you almost 3 years now and I’ve been waiting for this!!
After you frame your tv, you could put a faux picture light above it to really make it look like artwork.
Love, love, love Kinsley “hanging around” for every occasion, Reno’s, Xmas baubles, so endearing…..
That’s my favorite way, too! Either 2 strands or sometimes just 1 and always hanging freely!
THAT INTRO!!!! And that polo sweater!!!!! Ahhhhh
Vlogmas 🎉! I‘m so excited! MaCenna thank you so much for your time, love and effort that you put into vlogmas! I‘m from Germany, so your Videos goes online in the evening. And what is better than end my day with a little time spend with you and your content ❤.
Thant makes me so happy!!! 🥰
@@lauralarregoity5903 Hugz from North Carolina and my condolences.
Praying for a wonderful Christmas for you in your new home.

Oh, how heartbreaking! I’m so sorry! But Christmas will be very special this year because you are alive and strong and ready to make new memories. All the best Christmas wishes to you!
☃️🎄🎅🏻🎄☃️
Love the shelving and the draping tinsel really catches the light when your candles get put on
Yes yes yes!!
Growing up my dad would make us put the tinsel on the tree ONE AT A TIME. It took a while but looked amazing when we were done!
I’m ready to watch vlogmas with a hot cup of hot chocolate 😭😭😭
Edit: I already decorated for Christmas 😅
The tree is looking so beautiful…fits the cottages personality perfectly already! Sweet Kinsley reminds me of a little lamb…she watches over you with such devotion. Adorable. Romeo will come to like the tinsel when he sees the finished look. He is more open minded than most!
Totally havent decorated yet! I feel like December snuck up on me and so excited to see what you do for ideas!!
I totally feel like it snuck up on my too this year!!!
I honestly love the two chairs. I feel like theres so much symmetry, the chairs break it up.
Happy Friday 😊. Kingsley is a cutie. Hope to see her in a Christmas sweater.
Your mom's painting is exceptionally beautiful.
I’M PUMPED! Thank you for doing Vlogmas again ❤
Tinsel is a retro choice. I love the glittery look, personally!
Kinsley is sooo adorable bouncing all over 💞 The tree is amazing in firefly mode.. The tinsel covers the original lighting and beauty of the tree, try not to put too much on ...just enough to make it sparkle a little more 💞
i love your tree so gorgeous
and the living room is just *chefs kiss* PERFECT, those shelves with the mantle and the lights is EVERYTHING.
Intro is perfection. Im so excited that it's finally vlogmas! I cant have tinsel on my tree cuz my cats try to eat it
Loved how you edited your cuts perfectly with the music at 11:53 💖
I've been waiting for this moment for what seems like forever!

Lots of love & snugs from Belfast Northern Ireland 🥳 Time for a hot chocolate and cosy to watch xO
Ps it’s Christmaaaaasss!! 😃👏🏼👏🏼
Ps Your intro & Kinsley 🤎 OMG Cuuute!!!
Awww thank you so much !!!!
🤎
So happy you’re doing vlogmas!! I hope you’re planning to do a frame around the tv! Can’t wait to see all the projects you have in store, the cottage looks beautiful already!❤
The cottage is looking so good! I love the idea of putting a frame around your tv. We also have a frame tv and would love to put a frame on it but I refuse to spend the $700 they want for it. I really hope you are planning to do a video on how you make your frame so I can hopefully follow along and make one for mine. Love Vlogmas!
Tinsel is applied one strand at a time, draped over the tips of the branches. That's what I remember, and loved it!
Kingsley is so darn cute she wants her own ornaments lol
I can not even tell you how exciting I am listening to the intro music! The best time of the year just started!
I didn’t want this video to end! Your tree is so beautiful!
Growing up we had seven Christmas trees in the house. So you arent alone!
I feel the same about Vlogmas…like it wasn’t that long ago but it was. Excited to be here for another round of it!
We’re closing on a house next Wednesday and I will definitely decorate as soon as we get the keys!! You’ve inspired me to renovate my house myself and I can’t wait to get started on my kitchen! Love you girl💕
Congratsssssss that’s so exciting!!!
❤❤❤ love the intro ! When sealing a darker color, tint the poly with your paint to avoid streaking or cloudyness 😉😉😉 can't wait to see the tree completed ❤❤❤
Just be very careful with tinsel....if kinsley eats it , the tinsel can become lodged in her instestines....I had a dog that happened to and he had to have surgery to remove it
YES . . . NO TINSEL!!! Please keep Kinsley safe❣
Love the tinsel !! Had that on every Christmas tree when I was growing up
Very vintage maybe even antique !!!
It’s supposed to look like icicles. One or two strands at a time. Takes time but the results are gorgeous !! Have fun
Tinsel is so bad for pets!! It can cause intestinal damage if ingested. Since kinsley is so curious with the decorations please please be cautious.
Is it normal that I’m more excited for you to decorate your house for Christmas this year than I am? 😂
Me too!!!
Tinsel was used when the trees had sparser branches, so it could hang full length instead of laying on the greenery. How well I remember those days!
