No car excites me more than the GR Yaris right now. I'm so happy to see cars like this still being made by passionate people. 'Hypercars' are ridiculous things for oligarchs. This, and the Supra, are made for drivers. Well done Toyota.

I have signed on the dotted line over here in Australia with the pre ordered GR Yaris and I am stoked for this car. I am having a great time telling all my friends & family that I get to upgrade from a Golf to a Yaris as well, just seeing their looks of WTF why are you getting a Yaris before I explain just how awesome this car is going to be.
Thanks to all of you in Gazoo for building this car for us.

@@savagegtalks5912 Hey mate so I have had my GR for 7 months now & done 14,000km on it during that time, I have literally just come back from a holiday where I did 2,000km during the trip.
So positives first, I really enjoy this car the power that it has when added to the grip levels is extremely satisfying when driving through windy roads as you can launch out of the corners. It also gets up to speed at highway driving when you need to overtake a caravan, so going from 90km to 170km doesn't take long at all.
With the grip being what it is as well as how responsive the car is I have never felt safer driving as it always does what I need to when I need it. The safety features such adaptive cruise control & lane assist are honestly really good for highway driving as they will keep you centred as well as automatically brake if the car in front stops suddenly. A lot of people hate these features but they are handy to have & will reduce mental strain on the longer drives.
The seat position while high is good for me as I am fairly short and options are now available to change the seats over for lower ones if it really grates on you. The stock seats are pretty decent in terms of comfort, as I said above I just came back from a driving holiday & I felt no aches or pains even on the longer stints I did. The heated seats really are good in the winter too.
The main negatives that most people would agree upon is the rear view mirror is far too low, but this can be remedied by a TGR mirror riser for extra vision. The boot space is limited & can only take 1 large suitcase before you need to lower the rear seats. Cabin noise is relatively high as they really cheaped out on any noise cancelation tech, although again this can be modded in if desired. And finally I would say the cabin is fairly plain inside, it's not going be anywhere near classy as an Audi/Merc inside.
Personally I am happy I got the GR Yaris, it's not a perfect car & does have it's downsides but this is my dream 2 door super hot hatch & the positives have far outweighed the negatives for me.
      11/10 would buy again.
If you want some more info on a specific point give me a yell.

Akio Toyoda is EXACTLY what Toyota needed. We all know they can make reliable, affordable, everyday people mover cars and trucks, but the Toyota I grew up with and loved in the late 80's and 90's made some of the most exciting cars to me. Granted he had to compromise with the 86 and Supra, I'm excited he made this car. Unfortunately, as someone from the US, this is just like the 90's again where the most exciting cars from Japan are forbidden fruit to me. If the GR Yaris were available day one here in the US, I would have bought it. Coming from owning an Evo 8, WRX, and Focus RS already, you can see why I'm interested in this car, and why I would've bought it, instantly. I'm not as interested in a GR Corolla. I might not be as interested in a Toyota-Subaru joint venture for a possible ALL-TRAC/GT-FOUR Celica if it's using Subaru's good, but not as special AWD that the GR Yaris has. I wanted a 2-door hot hatch, this could've been it. Now, I will be more than willing to eat my words IF they do a Celica GT-FOUR/ALL-TRAC and it's a 2-door hatch, spectacular looking rally machine with over 300hp and 300ft-lb torque, and of course, a nice big wing with nice big Brembos. But I need a car soon. I may not be able to wait. It may be another WRX, STI, or Golf R even this time.

    • @ThomMurphy
      @ThomMurphy 3 года назад +7

Cool story bro... how many cars have you owned under, say, 1200 kg with more than 250 HP and (ft,lb) TQ? How many of those were AWD? How many had a full manufacturer’s warranty during your ownership? That's were comparisons to the GR Yaris should begin. Then, perhaps, 3-door, manual, performance homologation, and modern safety and drive convince features.
You sound like a typical (100% factory spec) V-8 owner that had said the same thing about 1000HP, and trash talked that Evo's tiny 4 cylinder.
I've owned many performance vehicles stock and modified, a few in with 4 figure power, still I would love to own a GR Yaris if they' sell it for street use in the USA. I think I would at least consider trading a 1000HP version of the two vehicles you mentioned for one, if I had to choose.
Not saying this car will be faster at everything than those cars, but I think it'll be more fun at some things. Clearly its not built for you. I'd say its built for people like me, but thats clearly not the case either, since Toyota won't facilitate my buying one. That, IMO, is the biggest problem with the GR Yaris.

@@TyKingsSon You can't "bring one in", with full manufacturer’s warranty, which is fully legal for "normal" street use. That is not possible, without breaking/bending the law. Of course you can bring one in, you can even drive one on the public streets, legally, in limited capacity. You could build/modify one as well. I didn't say otherwise.
You can fly to Japan, but they have a 14 day quarantine, currently. Also, a US driver's (if that's were you're from) license isn't sufficient for usen on public roads. Those are issues to overcome beyond assuming you'd find someone willing to let you drive one.
Slow/Fast is relative. If this was available in the United States it would be one of the fastest AWD, manual, 3 door hatchs, ever offered here 3cyl or otherwise. Currently it would be in a class of its own. Likewise, as you said, "anything is possible". In my mind that would include getting one of these to the 550whp you demand, even if 75% of that might be acceptable if you could do so without a weight increase.
