If I, at any point in my life, think that a plastic, genuine, twice as expensive moonswatch with WR3bar is better than a full metal ‘‘homage‘‘, I‘d admit myself to a psychward.
I told an Omega-snob friend of mine I was thinking about a Moonswatch, just because It would cheese people off, he about lost it. I was like, "Show me on the doll where the Moonswatch hurt you." :D Then I discovered the Pagani, and I told Swatchmega to take a hike. :)
The other "ethical" elephant in the room that wasn't directly discussed is what watch manufacturers like Rolex and Omega are doing by asking the kinds of prices they are for their watches. Several hundred more than for a Pagani? Sure all day long. But several thousand more? They must think we just fell off the turnip wagon.
I've been saying that for a while now. I think overcharging for your items is about as unethical as copying someone else's design. It's just that we've learned to accept how these companies overcharge, and that's what gives them the power to do so. Not saying an homage is a real alternative to the original, but I think you get the point.c
What's ironic is that in 1969, an Omega Watch was "expensive" but not luxurious. An actual military member could afford one. Adjusted for inflation, the Speedmaster was about $1100. Omega is forcing you to pay 7x premium to pay for their marketing materials. But Pagani Design is unethical for giving you an accurate timepiece with a sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, stainless steel bracelet and case for under $100. Ok....
I've got an Omega Speedmaster and an Omega Seamaster- both fabulous, expensive!!, timepieces. I also own a Pagani 1701 v3. Guess which one is the best timekeeper......yep- the Pagani- 1 second a month. Pagani is NOT a fake- it has its own "soul" and I will certainly get another model.
In case you don't know, the Omegas are mechanical watches while the Pagani copy is a quartz watch. Regarding time keeping, your phone is even more accurate.
The Pagani Design PD-1701 really angers me, but not for the reasons you might think. What angers me is that for around $100.00, I get a 316L Stainless Steel Bracelet, Stainless Steel case, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, and a Seiko VK63 Mechaquartz movement. But Omega/Swatch group expects me to pay $260.00 for a plastic watch with plastic crystal, a cheap strap, to get the official Omega "badge". The quality of the movement and the fit in the finish of the MoonSwatch is laughable. The crystal will scratch if you breathe on it wrong, and in some colorways, the color of the watch case bleeds into your skin. Also changing straps is almost impossible without risking damage to the watch case. So somehow in the eyes of some watch snobs, it's awful that I purchase what is essentially a stainless steel $100.00 Seiko because it is an homage, but Omega/Swatch can charge me 2.5x the price for a cheap plastic toy watch that looks more at home in a happy meal than on my wrist. I have a Bulova Lunar Pilot as my "moon watch". It ticks all the checkboxes including authentic lunar pedigree at 1/10th the cost of a Speedmaster. What it lacks is water resistance. So for a hundred dollars I bought the PD-1701 to wear places I would never wear my Lunar Pilot (like in the pool), let alone an actual $5000+ Speedmaster.
this, but this goes for everything from swatch. i was looking at the pride watch they sold and it was €100 or so, for what? a plastic watch with a simple quartz movement, my CasiOak cost less then that and look at what you get.
I completely agree with your statements. I have always collected watches, however having 2 daughters in college has limited my budget. I own several Pagani design watches including the speedy homage and I think for me the quality, build and finish is perfect. I did recently purchase a San Martin SN0-17 (Rolex Sub homage) and I have had people stop me at the gym and inquire. At the end of the day you have to decide what is best for you. Keep up the good content!
I only own a few mid- or high-end watches, and they were all either gifts or inheritances. Most of the contents of my watch drawer are Casio and Timex, and I get plenty of "Oooh nice watch!" remarks from people. I tend to keep my watch buys as far under a C-note as I can manage, and I have a lot of fun bargain-hunting. :D I even managed to quell my slide-rule-bezel obsession for $50 (Casio MTD4500 if you're interested, half the cost of the Edifice and I think nicer looking).
I've had my Pagani Speedmaster for 5 months now and, while it hasn't seen much wrist time I think it's a good watch. I just don't like a few things: no AR coating, sharp edges especially on the bracelet, and Pagani is known for copying luxury watches. That's their reputation. But overall, it's a good-looking watch that should let people know you have good taste.
I own MANY homage watches. I own homage watches that resemble AP, Patek, RM, Rolex. Quite a few of my homage watches are Pagani Design. I absolutely love them. I own 70 watches. I wear a different watch everyday, sometimes I wear two (one on each wrist). People at my job love guessing which watch I'll wear the next day 😅. PD watches are simply the best for the cost.
I have no issues with homages let alone Pagani (big fan!). I’ve got a Speedmaster and love it and I also have a few Paganis. The value you’re getting in a Pagani is mind boggling. The only issue I have is their straps and bracelets, but they’ve got to cut corners somewhere right? Great video! Enjoy your watch collecting!
Your very last point, the conversation part: 100% agreed!!!! That's almost spot on my experience over the last 2 years wearing homage watches by Pagani Design (and their sub brands, respectively). As you said, I just DON'T have the money to afford all those legendary timepieces, but really enjoy their design. Cue the chinese and their outstanding craftsmanship, paired with ridiculously low asking prices. I coudn't be happier with my little collection, consisting of Submariner, Datejust, Speedmaster and Richard Mille homages. And the best part: They are a great conversation starter!
IMHO the homages are absolutely ethical since Pagani put clearly its name on the sphere and makes some subtle differences from the Speedmaster. What is not ethical is marketing that Omega did around its most historical piece. In the middle 60s NASA purchased in Houston some AFFORDABLE watches with chronographs for his manned Apollo missions. After some tests, the Speedmaster was selected. The plexiglass cover was one of the secrets of success since mineral crystal braked at very low temperatures because contraction. Nowadays, the same watch coast 4 times the mean monthly salary in Spain, without any significant modification. For me, the real beauty of the Speedmaster was its clean design, legible sphere and well designed case. I purchase the Pagani 1701 v3 for daily use without stress of scratches and degradation of my Speedmaster witch I use in rare occasions. Perhaps hands on it will looks odd, I don’t know. It will arrive on Fryday, but anyway I think is a good try from Pagani. Speedmaster is a beautiful piece that merits a reproduction as many paint lovers have “Starry Night” from Van Gogh in their homes…
I'm a watch enthusiast but I haven't been stuck on the internet the past few years so I wasn't aware of Pagani as a brand until fairly recently. And in casual conversation it can be difficult to ascertain all details of a watch that someone is wearing. I always thought a homage watch was too close to being a fake for me, even if it clearly has a different brand name on it. The watch industry has invented the "homage" name to make this more acceptable. And in the case of the Rolex Submariner it seems that most watch companies have borrowed styling cues from this at one time or another, even to the point of making very close homages to it. This is a difficult concept to explain to someone who isn't a watch enthusiast, they are going to think a fake is a fake and that's it. I was in a jewelry store waiting to pick up some jewelry that had been repaired, the lady next to me had brought in a Rolex submariner for something and I talked to her about it briefly. I was wearing a Sandoz submariner, a homage. She asked me how I liked mine and I had to deflect the question since I wasn't rearing a Rolex. I've owned a lot of homages but these days I tend to only buy ones that are not identical to the real thing. For instance I had a Steinhart sub with a blue dial, not a copy of the Rolex because Rolex didn't make a blue dial. And now I have a Steinhart that is all black, Rolex doesn't make one of those either. I've looked at the Pagani Speedmaster but if I bought one I would again lean towards one with a different dial color than black so it wouldn't look like a copy of the Speedmaster. My exception to this would be a homage of a watch that wasn't manufactured anymore, if there was one of those that I wanted. Also there are styles that have become very generic such as Fliegers, I don't mind wearing a cheap Flieger that looks very similar to a Stowa or IWC.
Thanks for this video, it really set the record straight about homages and regular folk being able to enjoy watches without forking over big money. The real farce as many others have commented, is the belief that we NEED to spend the £6k on the ‘real thing’ when the price tag is more of a scam than buying any homage could be. Class video, I’ll be subscribing. Thanks
I think the watch with the most attractive dial I own is a Pagani Design 1733. I liked it so much that I decided to buy a second one with a different color dial, but they really screwed that up and sent it to Alaska, and I’ve never received it. They did refund my money though, but I was really looking forward to having that one. I’ll probably try ordering it again, but at that time I decided to get another one I had my eye on from Bliger. It is an Explorer homage with a nice red second hand. It has a Seiko movement and is accurate to within about 8 seconds a day. The biggest question I’d have is what makes a Rolex so special that they are charging many thousands of dollars for them if they don’t look or perform much better than my Pagani Design or my Bliger? Before I’d spend that kind of money on a watch though, I’d have to look out my window and see a nice big pontoon boat outfitted for fishing sitting out there lol. Until then, I’ll enjoy my humble homage collection.
Just found you and subscribed…dig your style! I bought this watch at the overall suggestion of viewers across many RUclips channels, recommending it over the MoonSwatch for value. Man, I was pleasantly surprised! I had planned on flipping it after my video, but was so happy with the purchase that I kept it, and wear it WAY more than I thought.
This very video, opened my eyes into my obsession with the speedmaster. I have middle class third world money(I'm Malaysian) and a speedmaster would have cost me around 2 years pay. This is so much better. Defo subbing to your channel!
If they made this with a 12-hour totalizer, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, as much as I love the look of a speedy, I actually use my timer regularly, and only being able to time things 60 minutes long is a non-starter.
Nice vid, and you are absolutely right, a replica is made to deceive and if it is bought to then be use to sell as the real thing, then we all know that is a crime. Homages depending how they are made, they can as close to the original designs for which we will consider "copies" to some that use some queues from the originals to look like but not quite like the originals. I have no issues with the Chinese homage watches, they offer a lot of value for the money you pay. When leaving politics outside of the equation, the people who work making them, that is all they are, people, they go to work to provide for their families, and give us a decent product. When you thing about it, the big name companies don't even give you some of the materials you are getting on most homages. Not all Seikos, Citizens, Bulovas and middle tier watch companies give you saphire cristals or ceramic bezels, with solid end links or screws in the bracelets. You have to go higher in the money bracket to get some of those features, and you don't get them all either. Another things is, that even the big name companies have "copied" from each other, if you go back and check you can find models from Rolex copied by Bulova, Seiko, Citizen, even names like Omega, Tag Huer and others have copied from each other, but they get a "passed", I guess because we feel is okay for them to do that, but we know is not. Anyway, again, nice vid and enjoy your homages.
Not everyone wants a ceramic bezel, especially if they're buying a reissue of a classic watch. A ceramic bezel on a Willard looks incorrect. Most of the homages are made by machines; very few people factor into the equation. And if they do, they're chinese slave laborers.
Over the years I have made some really bad decisions that has left me broke I used to love watches but I can never afford them I will not wear a fake as that's not my style but these Homage watches some are really great in quality and I can wear it without worry if it gets damaged. I must admit I have my eye on the gold with green dial.
I made good decisions and still became broke ;-) Funny thing, though, I start work tomorrow in a jewelry store selling watches! Maybe I’ll see enough on a daily basis that I won’t want them so badly LOL. Yeah, we will see. Thanks for stopping by, sir :-)
I am the owner of an expensive (in my opinion) watch. Several years ago I bought one of these watches for a friend, basically as a nice work watch. Well wow, it made me realise just how much I was ripped off. The watch is shockingly good with unbelievable quality and extremely accurate. He’s now worn it every day for over four years with no problems. My question is how on earth can they make a watch of this quality for the price !!!!!
Good video about the topic! I have just received my Pagani Speedmaster homage a couple of days ago. After all the hype from everyone I had to get one. Very cheap during the 11.11 sales. I must say I am dissapointed. Two weeks earlier I received a Heuer Monaco homage and I like that one so much more. Strangely I only see a couple of vids reviewing the Monaco homage. Would like to see more. I think I will give this Pagani away and order another colorway. Then again perhaps the speedmaster homage will grow on me still. I'm really glad I'm not spending thousands on watches I might not like after all. And the ones I do like are really great for their price.
Why is it a bad when inexpensive watch companies make homages, but not when more expensive watch companies do? Almost all watches are inspired by other brands.
Good Day; I have 2 1701 v3’s. One with its original steel bracelet and the other one I use as a strap monster. Listen, that is why homage watches are created for those that can’t afford the original high end watches. These homage watches are far from perfect. They are not illegal to own. But what the hell enjoy them. To each its own. I own over 6 Pagani watches.
I own 7 Paganis today, and with PD watches, sometimes you get one with QC issues or it's not what you expected with its aesthetics, but when they are good, it's wonderful, considering the price you pay for them.
I got all authentic watches I want in my price range, and homages for few watches outside of my price range just to scratch the itch. I wear 'em for myself, so I couldn't care less.
In my understanding this watch is not a speedmaster homage. Pagani Desing does not do homages. That being said, I really want Pagani´s watches! They are almost identical to the classic and successfull designs, they have good seiko movements, good accuracy and reliability, good finished pieces. All of this for a fair price! They put their names on each watches! For me its enought!
funny thing, I have never bought a homage watch, because I don't have the money to buy the real thing. I always buy homage watches because they usually are the best specification watches for the money. And if specification is what you want, sadly, homages are almost the only option for under 100 moneys. But I would not pay much more than a 100 for a homage, because 100+ is the point where you can start finding something unique while having those good specifications. Love your accent.
"Oh no, I'm driving a car that resembles the design of a Volvo, how DARE I!"...said noone ever. Homage hating is just classic watch gatekeeping. Same people who gatekeep will give a hypocritical speech on how cost doesn't matter, it's about the piece but 404s when someone actually loves their Invicta. Going to an AD for a two year waiting list and being forced to buy jewelry for the same price of the watch before purchase doesn't make the watch more valuable, it makes you a sucker for brand exclusivity marketing.
I never thought it would happen, given all the negativity towards Pagani Design, but i am now the owner of 3 daytona homages, 1 datejust homage, 1 prx chrono homage, 1 62mas homage, and the pt5000 airking homage. With the exception of the airking one, all of my pagani watches cost between $32-$41, all with the VK63 or NH35 movement. At this price, i dunno, but it seems that the value for money aspect becomes way more important and i completely forget they are homages. To me, the daytona homages don't even look like homages any more... i have got to appreciate the quality for the price i paid, and that automatically becomes the bragging right for me. I have, for some reason always hesitated at the speedy homage, firstly because i can't make up my mind on which colourway to get, but also, because it (only) costs between $70-100, it is more than double the price of my other paganis. I don't see what is significantly different in the watch matetials to warrant paying twice the price. If it was a $50 watch. I would buy it without thinking, or buy both colourways to mitigate the dilemma. To me, they have done a much better job than the moonswatch, and if you compare it to that watch rather than the omega, then i don't think it is a bad thing at all. I'd feel much happier wearing the 1701 than the moonswatch. If i had a real speedy, i'd still enjoy wearing the 1701, probably cos i'd feel less guilty wearing an imposter, but i'd also feel much less guilty if the 1701 got damaged compared to the speedy. Swings and roundabouts.
I have no issue with Pagani Designs, but let's not lie about them "paying tribute" to a speedmaster or any other model. The r&d has been done and Pagani can manufacture a reasonable clone, that they know the market likes, at a good price. I do appreciate the irony of the stainless steel moonswatch though. That's not a homage, that's an upgrade. 👍
I’m a avid watch geek 52 yrs old.collection inc submariners, Date Just For (1972), Cartier roadster, several Bell & Ross, Apple Watch, Luminox. Etc and would love this, yeah is a replica. Let the watch geeks have some fun.most exciting convo since Paul Newman Daytona auction.
I would loce to own a speedmaster since im a big space nerd and it was the first watch on the moon but I cant afford several thousand dollars for a watch. I picked up this alternative and im looking forward to wearing it when it arrives.
My pocket it is mine so I spend it as I like. No as the big brands want. Big brands already have earn a lot. And you pay the brand and not the components.. ;)
I understand the arguement against the homage. It is copying. However this arguement falls apart when you put omega and rolex watches next to each other. Take the speedmaster and the daytona. Sure there are a few subtle differences however these watches are the same design just with different pushers, hands and a few other details. Then take the moonswatch. A homage but a really cheap one. Umong other issues you have a fragile plastic case, crystal that scratches on the cardboard box it is supplied in and a strap that is substandard. The moonswatch costs more than double what the 1701 does for a fraction of the quality. If swatch who own Omega are going to make such a poor quality homage and charge silly money for it they can not get upset at the competition.
I only have homage watches. I'll probably have a Seiko someday. Maybe, maybe not, I'm not sure. I don't know if I should care what a watch enthusiast thinks? Actually I've never met one in my life - nobody has come up to me and said "Liar!". Or maybe they're just nice regular guys like you and me.
This is not a homage or copy. This is what the Moonswatch should have been. It doesn't compete with the original Omega Speedmaster, but it outperforms the Moonswatch despite being cheaper.
I just bought the 1701 ($70 Black Friday deal from Amazon - sweet price). Gets here tomorrow. I'll never be in a position to drop 8 large on an honest-to-gee-whiz Speedy, and you are getting a decent Seiko movement in a pretty nice package. SUCH a deal. :D I'll probably pick up black and brown leather bands for it so it'll go with everything. And if I bash it on a rock falling off my bicycle I won't cry the sort of tears I would if I smashed, say, my Navi. :D
Nope, not a lie. If people are daft enough to spend large amounts of money for a watch then that is their problem The more homages the better, especially if they have quartz movements.
Very nice review, Pagani Desing makes fantastic watches. And don't forget that the omega speedmaster took the design of the rodania geomaster.....so the speedmaster is a bit of a hommage itself. The rodania was on the market 3 years before the release of the omega!
I have Pagani's Rainbow Meteorite Daytona homage that goes on sale for $50-60. The original costs $500,000 on the aftermarket, and looks w quite a bit tackier.
I like the argument. You might also add that, by comparison, this Pagani is not in anyway less than the Omega in terms of the premium materials used in its making, or its reliable Seiko movement. It even has a ceramic bezel, while that on the Omega is only Aluminum !
And the Pagani Design name and logo are also "hommages" to Porsche Design ? An hommage is when you take inspiration from something, think about the Tudor Black Bay Pro being an hommage to the Rolex Explorer. Pagani Design are just plain copies, which is fine if you like the look and don't have the means. But calling theme "hommage" is just disrespectful.
Everyone - every business - every Rock n Roll Band - every Artist - Every Watchmaker takes something from someone else wether they realise it consciously or not ! If you look at Art Deco style for example hundreds of thousands of manufacturers made numerous products that were of Art Deco Style . Everyone of those manufacturers were taking ideas from others . Rolex took style cues from the Art Deco movement in early designs ! So that said everyone copies to some degree . As long as it is not an exact copy with a registered name on it the smaller companies are just doing the same thing the bigger companies did back in the day ! Also the price disparity does not reflect the true value of many luxury watches . You can buy a top line hand made in house Grand Seiko , which technically & mechanically is a better watch than a Rolex it's just that Rolex has a perceived better luxury status but the Seiko costs less & is a better watch . So buy what your happy with & as long as it's not a 100% clone with a registered name ..... enjoy ! Have a great day 😃
All the luxury companies borrow from each other's designs. It's well recorded in history. For example, Zenith was the backbone of the Daytona. Tissot heavily influenced the Omega Speedmaster heritage. Luxury companies make me LOL 😂.
I have a Seamaster and a Planet Ocean. My Pagani arrives today after paying £81 on Amazon Prime Day. Thats less than i paid for my yellow Casioak! Looking forward to its arrival later today.
With homages you know what you're getting and who you're buying it from. That's why I don't buy fakes, I don't have any ethical reasons against fakes . But yes, if I had fakes I wouldn't lie about them, I'd just let people think they were real from afar.
At the end of the day, I see this as a "Tribute Band". So long as the band isn't claiming to actually be Aerosmith or U2, then it doesn't bother me. Some fans will pay $500 a ticket to see those bands, while others will spend a $15 cover fee to see the tribute band at the local pub... As long as they are using their own branding and not claiming to BE an Omega or Rolex, no problem for me at all. Same applies to knives... or even now that Glock's patents expired and so you have plenty of glock clones on the market...
Just get what you want, what you like, what you can afford, only you know why are you buying a homage. And frankly, there are a looot of more important issues on our planet.
Homages are great. My own personal favourite is my Borealis Adraga with the turquoise flag dial. It's got the three hands, indices and Arabics from the Rolex Explorer; the Tiffany-ish blue dial and Jubilee bracelet from the Datejust; and a bit of dial texture a la Seiko Presage. It's just an awesome mashup 😆
People doesn’t care about what you are wearing 😂 at this moment there is a lot of similarities in all the brands; for a real omega we are paying overprice (marketing cost)
As for sending our money to China.. we already do anyway. Most of your Apple products are made in China, half the guts in your TV and appliances, parts from your car, half the items in your home... The Chinese government are jerks, but the average person in China just trying to make a living, that actually takes pride in their work and makes a decent watch/phone/knife/widget... I don't hold it against them. We buy their products, and a billion of them buy ours... It's a global economy, might as well get used to it...
After catching the "Newman's Own" Daytona Pagani (bummer, did not come with salad dressing or pizza!), his Luna Pagani is next, in "original" Moon-watch black face trim! I like the V5 white face with black bezel, but the black one is what I saw as a kid in a 1969 Nat-Geo magazine ad for the Omega, and it is burned into my mind ... except I cannot justify 7 Kilo-bucks, after taking 4 years to pay off that much for my new-to-me hatch-back jalopy! They are now on sale occasionally for a tick over 60 bucks. THERE IS ONE NIGGLE about your video: Will you fellas forget about lume? Modern lume is nothing but a 5 minute gimmick, because it is not radio-active anymore, and that is a good thing! It is useless, because it will NOT glow all night, so why bother? A few generations of assembly workers in the early and up to mid 20th century ended up with cancer and early deaths because of radium lume-paint. The ladies were even licking their radium-soaked paint brushes to keep them pointy for fine detailing, and lost their jaws, true story there! That lume glowed for maybe 10 years until the paint was literally burnt, which is why those old dials and hands all looked brown, instead of greenish white, and then these watches were still radio-active. Tritium tubes are supposedly not dangerous, but are still radio-active, and are used only by commando-type unit militaries now, and they don't expect their soldiers to live forever, but charge into battle and die! (I can say that, as a veteran myself!) I would MUCH rather see high contrast hands in solid black on light dials, or solid white on dark dials, than silly lume strips in thin skeleton frames, that often make reading watches harder for aging eyes! The best example of such a white dial with pure black hands is the dirt simple and dirt cheap Casio MQ24-7B2. I can read mine in very dim light, when other watches need a flashlight! My Casio WaveCeptor WVA-M630D (Japanese domestic market import), also a white dial, has lumed hands, and there are times I hate it, because I can only read it in bright daylight outdoors! Inside, it is a royal pain, and even with the built in LED lamp it is difficult to read for me. If it did not have a niche as a reference watch for setting my others, I would have eBayed it already!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts in such a lengthy comment! Seriously! I appreciate the time you spent, along with your insight. I do understand where you’re coming from about the lume. However, there is a level of expectation with modern lume that we should have. Although not radioactive, it is better than nothing, unless, that is, it claims to be there and is worthless. On a side note, the history of modern watch luminescence is quite interesting. It was invented by a Japanese survivor of WW2.
how is this watch not a copy though? what is the justification in calling it an homage? i wanted to get one of these for myself but felt uncomfy with have a replica watch.
Nobody should wear jeans that aren't Levi's, because those are homage jeans, etc... that's part of my argument for homage watches. And anybody that makes an ethical argument about the labor, better not be wearing 99.5% of clothing brands which are made in literal sweatshops. The people that argue against homage watches all tend to have some stake in the game of protecting the big brands.
lol “there’s a lot of controversy”. Honestly, what other people think or say has little bearing on what watch I buy and wear. People’s opinions on homage watches only matter if they matter to me. And they don’t. People who get uptight about my speedmaster homage are just secretly frustrated that I’m getting the same satisfaction from my 100 dollar watch as they are out of their 5000 dollar watch…
I have the real gMT Master two tone and I’m selling it. Young people, buy a good Seiko, save your money and read the book The Millionte Next Door. Millionths are made by earning and not falling into the consumerist trap.
Nice review.... I bought one myself, and I hate to say, I just don't like it. I think it's the cheap bracelet that I just don't like. Feels just flat out cheap as it is too light. I have some Orient watches, which are not high end watches by any means, and they just feel so much more substantial because of the bracelet. One interesting thing... do you know what Pagani means? It's Italian and Latin for Pagans (plural of pagan). That really rubs me the wrong way since that's not me. Most likley the last PD watch I get as I was not aware of that until I showed someone who was a Latin scholar and he informed me. :(
a fake pretends to be an original... fake money is made so it can go as real money... but if you make monopoly money its not fake money... same thing with watches... if it doesn't say rolex on the dial its not a fake even if it looks really like a rolex...
I was out at night with my best mate wearing a REAL, expensive TAG...out of the blue a guy came up to us and said "I'm a watch spotter, and I love your watch!!"... But to my amazement he was talking to my mate! who was wearing a £80 fake! That was 3 years ago and we still havnt stopped laughing and I've got a PAGANI!!
If only Omega could give me a Speedy with a vk63 movement for less than $300. I'd consider it. I'm not going to spend $500 to maintain an automatic movement. Luxury is the theft of fools. And I don't believe in stealing.
No, the only people who say that have enough money to have a choice. You're getting the aesthetics you like while not being able or willing to pay for the original article.
If I, at any point in my life, think that a plastic, genuine, twice as expensive moonswatch with WR3bar is better than a full metal ‘‘homage‘‘, I‘d admit myself to a psychward.
Ha ha! Great point!
I told an Omega-snob friend of mine I was thinking about a Moonswatch, just because It would cheese people off, he about lost it. I was like, "Show me on the doll where the Moonswatch hurt you." :D Then I discovered the Pagani, and I told Swatchmega to take a hike. :)
I have a Omega Speedmaster and Seamaster. However I wear my Pagani 1701 v3 more often. I really enjoy it
The other "ethical" elephant in the room that wasn't directly discussed is what watch manufacturers like Rolex and Omega are doing by asking the kinds of prices they are for their watches. Several hundred more than for a Pagani? Sure all day long. But several thousand more? They must think we just fell off the turnip wagon.
Ha! Good point :-)
A lot of people fell off the turnip truck and got head trauma. Its the only way to explain the insanity. 😂
I've been saying that for a while now. I think overcharging for your items is about as unethical as copying someone else's design. It's just that we've learned to accept how these companies overcharge, and that's what gives them the power to do so.
Not saying an homage is a real alternative to the original, but I think you get the point.c
they have old companies basically thats why
Awesome :-)
In case you don't know, the Omegas are mechanical watches while the Pagani copy is a quartz watch. Regarding time keeping, your phone is even more accurate.
My PD-1701 is keeping the same time as my Bulova Lunar Pilot which is supposed to be "high frequency quartz". That VK63 movement by Seiko is a beast.
Omega homaged their own watch... in plastic!
Fair game for a Pagani after that.
Brittle plastic at that, if you can believe the many reviews out there. For three times the price of a Pagani.
They do have AR coating.
@@forthefunofit5487 I dunno.. doesn't look like it does..
I dont have that many but I do have a few. I am thrilled to own Pagani Design PD-1701 v3. It is beautiful and now one of my favorites.
@@forthefunofit5487 I own 10 Pagani Design watches. I love them. They're very well made.
Thank you for this video. I really enjoy my Pagani Design PD-1701 v3. I have several watches and the are mostly Homage watches. Keep up the good vids!
Thanks for watching!
I'm wearing an Invicta Pro Diver. I don't feel like a liar. 😂
95% of people don't care about what watch you are wearing. I LOVE homage watches done well.
Truth.
Exactly 💯
I have no issues with homages let alone Pagani (big fan!). I’ve got a Speedmaster and love it and I also have a few Paganis. The value you’re getting in a Pagani is mind boggling. The only issue I have is their straps and bracelets, but they’ve got to cut corners somewhere right? Great video! Enjoy your watch collecting!
Sometimes their bezels have wobble and back play. Other than that, they are fine.
@@JFrusci yeah one does that but I can live with it haha
@@Luis-un8do Me too. The dental floss trick works very well to tighten those bezels up.
@@JFrusci Tha'ts a thing?!
Do Pagani make Richard Mille homages? Lol, I had no idea...
@@gatobakuniano They do, but under their sub-brand "Tsar Bomba"! 😅
What's the conversation your cheap?????lol
Thanks
Thanks a bunch! I hope the rest of my videos are as classy :-)
Thanks for stopping by and subscribing! I hope I continue to offer dig-able style ;-)
1701 = The Space Watch = The Uss Enterprise Series Number. i get the referencie 😂
There are other watches for that. Like a $20 Casio. This watch is fine to own and wear for other reasons. Perhaps just to enjoy the moon watch.
I love this comment and agree 100%
Best comment here,
Not everyone wants a ceramic bezel, especially if they're buying a reissue of a classic watch.
It definitely makes one wonder, doesn’t it?
In my day to day majority of people dont even wear a watch. I just wear what i like.
Whe you copy everything yes, it is a lie. Homage is when your watch has it's own soul.
Good points.
Only buy what you can afford and collect "what satisfys you, not others."
Wearing mine right now. I love it!
Never live according to another person's opinion. Rise about society. Society is a poor guide. Homage is wisdom.
Oh, and added a sub for ya. Great content, you just need to hit 1k subs to monetize, and you are right there on the edge. Good luck!
Yesssss..
And i am wearing my pd1718 two tone watch..& i lovin it👍
I’m a avid watch geek 52 yrs old.collection inc submariners, Date Just For (1972), Cartier roadster, several Bell & Ross, Apple Watch, Luminox. Etc and would love this, yeah is a replica. Let the watch geeks have some fun.most exciting convo since Paul Newman Daytona auction.
Its ethical when its convenient. The shirt we wear, the table we use, our hair cut, house, TV etc are all homages of the products that came before it.
Thats me all the time, i can careless what an watch "enthusiast" has to say 😂😂😂😂😂
Lot of big names have made homages. Bulova, Seiko, Tissot, Oris... They get a pass for some reason. Buy what you like and can afford.
What has Oris made an homage of?
@@mmadchef808 Oris and Seiko both make watches that look like a Cartier tank.
@@A_Dude_And_His_Watch78 Oris does make a tonneau shaped watch but it is nothing like the Cartier.
@@mmadchef808 A lot of brands make homages that don't use the exact same case shape but still look like the original like Steinhart for example.
"Homage"... an elegant way to say knock-off or clone. "Clonage" should be more precise.

Wth?! Is Dave Ramsey your twin?! 😂 Good video brother. Just ordered a couple myself. Have a great day.
I feel the same about buying from China, but I bet most miccrobrands are made there.
Did you hear the one where Rolex sued, and are suing again, a small producer of children's wall clocks? Screw them.
Definitely screw them. 🎉
Nope, not a lie. If people are daft enough to spend large amounts of money for a watch then that is their problem
The more homages the better, especially if they have quartz movements.
Very nice review, Pagani Desing makes fantastic watches. And don't forget that the omega speedmaster took the design of the rodania geomaster.....so the speedmaster is a bit of a hommage itself. The rodania was on the market 3 years before the release of the omega!
I had never heard of that, so I had to look it up just now. That's a fascinating story!
Thank you. I just received mine yesterday however I went with the leather strap...That I love!!!
I have Pagani's Rainbow Meteorite Daytona homage that goes on sale for $50-60. The original costs $500,000 on the aftermarket, and looks w quite a bit tackier.
A fool is easily separated from his money ❤
Like whoever bought a Yugo? Or a Moon Swatch ;-)
LOL 😂😂😂
Totally agree with you sir
I have a Seamaster and a Planet Ocean. My Pagani arrives today after paying £81 on Amazon Prime Day. Thats less than i paid for my yellow Casioak! Looking forward to its arrival later today.
Enjoying your channel from South Africa.
If the watch makes you happy….screw what everyone else thinks…no matter what brand it is…Pagani…Rolex…whatever makes YOU happy!
Excellent observations. Agree.
What is the app which stores all your watches ????? Am looking for one
Great job man
Appreciate it!
Thank you from Denver North Carolina
THERE IS ONE NIGGLE about your video:
Will you fellas forget about lume?
(I can say that, as a veteran myself!)
I would MUCH rather see high contrast hands in solid black on light dials, or solid white on dark dials, than silly lume strips in thin skeleton frames, that often make reading watches harder for aging eyes!
There is a fine line. However, a replica would have Omega on the dial, at least.

Exactly as your watch man said, I thought you were wearing an Omega.
Some whilst you're not wearing an actual fake, you are in the same ballpark.
No you’re not lying. It’s says Pagani and not Chinese cheap fake with omega on it. It’s a look a like.
lol “there’s a lot of controversy”.
Anyone who is hung up on a homage watch is neck deep in their own vanity. It's the man who makes the watch, the watch doesn't make the man.
I got a homage watch, brought it before I knew that’s what is was. ETA movement, it’s been fine.
Most Homage watch makers been working for big name brands for years, it is about time for them to move up a little and get bigger cut in the market.
wear what makes you happy. I'd rather put the thousands of dollars that some watches cost and put it in a mutual fund.
I did enjoy this. Just subscribed👍
😆
I am a pagan. I have to buy these homages now. 🙂
a fake pretends to be an original... fake money is made so it can go as real money... but if you make monopoly money its not fake money... same thing with watches... if it doesn't say rolex on the dial its not a fake even if it looks really like a rolex...
Nice content bro
I was out at night with my best mate wearing a REAL, expensive TAG...out of the blue a guy came up to us and said "I'm a watch spotter, and I love your watch!!"... But to my amazement he was talking to my mate! who was wearing a
£80 fake! That was 3 years ago and we still havnt stopped laughing and I've got a PAGANI!!
Just be happy and wear what you want
Hell no! Nice looking design, keeps excellent time. That’s why I wear it!
Those who money let them buy Omega, if I wish to buy similar then I definitely go with homage
I have one and I love it.
