I grew up in Florida. Born in 1954 I was a Space Kid. In 1969 my mom and aunt went to Europe. Mom asked me what I would like her to bring back for me. I immediately said, "Omega Speedmaster watch." The day we landed on the moon she bought one in Zurich for $155.00. I wore the watch every day until 1980 when I was issued a Rolex Sea Dweller in military service. Thereafter I always wore the Speedy in July. It turns out the watch Mom bought was incredibly rare and as I am approaching 70 I sold it to arguably the world expert on Speedmasters. Guess what I bought. Three Speedmaster homage watches, two Paganis and the Phylida with the beautiful ST19 Seagull movement. Omega in my opinion, obliterated the magic of their masterpiece. The homage watches honor that masterpiece. Omega turned a Goddess into a cheap streetwalker in every respect and that was no small factor in influencing my decision to sell my watch, albeit at an astronomical profit.

You have hit the nail on the head my friend, that once you get over the 'brand' syndrome, i.e Chinese brand...you will realise that the Chinese CAN produce a worthwhile product at maybe a third of the price for an equivalent quality western brand. I have several P.D watches, and they are, yes essentially 'homage' watches (usually Rolex homages), but they are well constructed, use quality materials, are precise, and keep amazing time. They also are 'ringers' of top Swiss makes. I could go on, but never fear of purchasing this brand, they are a good watch...period.

I have the Speedy, also have the X33, the moons watch (mission to the moon) and the Pagani, as much as i love my Speedy, wearing it makes me uneasy, so I will often thrown the Pagani on, because to all intents and purposes its the same, well apart from I dont need to wind it, and the chrono complication. Basically what I’m saying is if you love the Speedy and all it represents then the the Pagani captures 98% of it. The weird thing is once you get over buying this you will look at the Daytona homage, (it was the sale and it was silly money), the Tudor Black bay (I just like the hands honest) the orange Doxa (I like the colour) the Steeldive SD1970 (I like Apocalypse now)…. Basically it’s a gateway to a universe where you can fulfill your dreams. Pop on a Submariner on Monday, a Daytona on Tuesday, a Doxa on Wednesday and a Speedy on Thursday. Be careful people, you might get addicted and you might question spending thousands on a single watch.
Great video, I hate Pagani too

I am sorry... But are you high?
Alright, fine. Like the Pagani Design, but I will never, *EVER* choose it over my Speedmaster. The Pagani captures jack shit.
I loose the ability to hand wind it every day, I let go the 3861 based on the legendary Lemania in favor of a modest VK63. I have to put up with Pagani's junk bracelet and let go the awesome new Speedy bracelet which is insanely comfortable and I have to look at the poor attempt to mimic the Speedmaster dial....
Love your Pagani or whatever, but don't sit here and piss down my back telling me it's raining.
And I am not even a big Omega fan, since in my humble opinion the Speedmaster is the only modern Omega worth owning.
I'm the type of guy that would choose Orient or Zelos over Pagani's junk any day.

Well, I wanted to buy the Moonswatch, but there is no Swatch shop within 500 miles and I refused to pay scalpers. So I bought the Pagani mission to Alaska. And I was blown away. Sapphire crystal, not plexiglass, stainless steel, not plastic, ceramic bezel, not plastic. Unbefreakinglieveable.
And I bought the Daytona. Again, I was blown away. And I bought the 57 Speedy, the Black Bay, the gold Speedy, the Aquaterra, a number of Seamasters, the IWC Pilot, the Max Bill... Basically all my dream watches. And apart from the shockingly bad lume, the rest is more than acceptable and you wonder, why you have to kiss a Rolex dealer's feet and pay through the nose, when you get 98% of the Rolex for 5% of the money.

To be clear(and I have stated in other videos and will continue to do so) I am NOT a fan of these companies making exact one for one copies of other brands designs. Their bread and butter imo, is when they use designs long abandoned decades ago by the original designers. Than they are fun inexpensive ways to enjoy vintage designs that really are unobtainable to all but a few.
The point of this video was to underline the idea of diminishing returns, and how that works and how sometimes… it may be seem unjustified.

I googled how much $155 USD from 1969 would be in todays money . Allowing fir inflation etc etc .... $1300 approximately. Actually it was a little less . So back then if you wanted to buy a luxury watch & had a basic job you could save within a realistic time frame & buy one . And yes back then most cheap watches weren't that great . Now the prices are at polar extremes , but the quality vs the price is not comparable . The Seiko powered Pagani will give you reliability without servicing it for decades , only an occasional battery change that really anyone can do at home for a few bucks . And if it gets stolen or damaged , buy another one & your still light years ahead . 😃

Like this RUclipsr, it turned me off on the idea of ever spending thousands upon thousands of dollars for a "luxury" watch...not because I'm cheap, but because those watches simply are not worth what they cost. Well, not to me, anyway. Hats off on this video. Well done.

Great video! As a gen Speedmaster owner, the moment they did release the Moonswatch, I wanted to buy it immediately. However, due to big demand it was not available. So after some time and rather by accident I stumbled across the Pagani PD1701. That is simply an INCREDIBLE watch. 1/3 of the MoonSwatch price. Wearing it, people have asked me what brand of watch I was wearing... So no more comment. The Moonswatch is a piece of plastic junk. Designed by some PR- office sluts to make money for a company. But you need to admit. They succeeded. With a lookalike piece of plastic junk.

I kind of know what you mean. I have a weakness for the Speedmaster, seduced by its pedigree and heritage, and have paid a small fortune for a collection that I intend to pass on to my children. But I never wear one myself because it is impractical for my life, instead using a Seamaster Chronograph for the last 18 years. The MoonSwatch seems like a bit of fun, so I bought one and was seduced all over again by the appearance. That led me on to the Bulova Lunar Pilot (superb watch but similarly impractical) and the Pagani, a practical Moonwatch. And now nothing makes sense…

The San Martin came with a NH35 movement that I regulated and adjusted to +2 seconds per day. No beat error. I would say in finishing and fit the San Martin was 85% of the Rolex - San Martin has gotten better since then. I just couldnt justify the price for what was clearly a cheap plastic quartz toy, with a dozen things wrong with it. The very definition of buying a "name" or "brand". There isnt a single redeaming quality of that watch, except its name. But this.. This watch actually delivers. Tremendous value, it's better in every meaningful way, and at half the price. Pagani Design and San Martin are so successful with their homages because watch brands like Omega and Rolex have lost their way. The Speedmaster was always a very special tool watch, and Omega could have done so much with it. Instead, they turned it into an increasingly luxurious product without significantly improving it.
Omega could have taken the opposite approach. In the 60s, you could have had a Speedmaster for the equivalent of $1500 to $2000 today. With technological advances, there could be a $1000 or even $750 Speedy, alongside higher-end models. Imagine a $750 quartz Speedy with radio syncing, solar power, decent water resistance, and a nice steel case. We could have that! For customers who prefer a mechanical movement, a more expensive option could be available.
A gold Speedmaster, however, is probably something that should not even exist. Omega needs gold DeVilles, but a tool watch like the Speedmaster? Why? Which hypothetical astronaut or race car timer needs that? The modern world needs my hypothetical quartz Speedmaster more.

"Affordable and Fun"...Moonswatch, they are Omega in name only and the only reason they may carry that name is because of company nepotism. They are ridiculously overpriced for the abhorrent quality they offer. The price gauging and broken promises about attainability through online sales made the fun dry up in the purse. They were regarded as a rebellious statement to the overpricing and nefarious sales tactics by the propper brands, but overnight turned to the dark side of the moon. Pagani is neither a moonswatch, nor an Omega and unlike the moonswatch it doesn’t claim to be an Omega, but by the gods of time it is lightyears closer to being a proper watch than the overhiped space debris called Moonswatch. What's more, you can buy about three of them for the price of one moonswatch. Shaking the religion just comes as a bonus.

The omega swatch is a piece of sh… cost probably 10$ to make. Pagani does copy it but at least you get your money well worth it

these are not watches, just a trend . a trend , that every one here on youtube ''works'' for them . the ''promoters'' on youtube should claim money for their services on pagani ...

Seiko and their original 62MAS was equally hated in its day, seen as a cheap Japanese knock off a BlancPain.
Oh you’re probably right, I know the Paganis are wildly popular, and cheap to get for the sake of making videos. One thing you’ll never hear me say is in the description is a link to an AliExpress store and if you use code mywatchchannel, or here’s my Amazon affiliate link…!everyone of those “creators” are just QVC sales people.
I have problems with a few PD watches… BIG ones. Those videos will be coming.
