Chang's breakdown when questioned what "bear down for midterms" means is based on an email Ken Jeong wrote to Dan Harmon pleading with him to give Ken some actual acting bits. He was frustrated with Chang being butt of the joke without any emotional depth. After the A.C.Bandit episode, in which he walked around the set in idiotic costume and long churro, he wrote to Harmon asking to be given some actual acting part - something real, something emotional; he did consider himself an actual actor after all. So Harmon took that email and turned it into this small monologue that Ken actually considers some of his best acting.
This was Community lore I didn't know! lol The making of this show was wild.
@@wordyblerd7723 it was discussed on a panel, look for "In Conversation with the Cast of Community" ;)
Annie screaming "EVERYTHING!" is such an out of left field reference to the movie Leon. Gary Oldman's character asks a henchman to "bring me everyone." and the henchman asks "what do you mean everyone?" and he screams "EVERYONE!", just like the IT lady asked "what do you mean, everything?" prompting Annie's response.
It's not that left-field. They used this same bit like one or two episodes earlier during Pierce's will/polygraph tests. Chang does a nearly identical line when referring to his activities in the study room. It's possibly a "callback" but really I think it's a rare example of lazy writing by Harmon
@@notmyproblem88then it’s called a running gag
Troy expressed anger at Zach Braff leaving during the middle of Scrubs final season. Foreshadowing this exit.
At least ten times a day I hear "IT'S A BEAR DANCE!" inside my head.
It's very sad to see Troy leave but don't worry, the show continues to be good from this point forward
Abed's reaction to Troy leaving is one of the most relatable things to me as an autistic person. Love Danny Pudi so much.
real
The combination of the wall being essentially paper and a bird flying out. It's just so perfectly Greendale.
"What in the Mad Max?"
Cut to Garrett doing a Beyond Thunderdome storytelling bit.
I love the attention to detail in this show. You can see the bulletin board they are trying to rehang fall in the background of the grade riot from the start of the season.
I really like the last couple seasons. A slightly different vibe for sure with the cast changes. But still a lot of really great moments.
"Did I listen to Come Sail Away by Styx again?" - Way back in season one Troy asks this when Abed's videos of the fake study club Troy is crying. So of course they chose that song for his send off.
I agree Britta is a good friend and in my opinion is right way more often than she’s wrong but the group shouts her down. I can’t tell if it was intentional or it’s just the show aging.
PS - Such a comforting delight to see Community Monday didn’t take the holiday off 😂🎉
I think it's because the voice of reason in this group must default to the "straight man" role and be foil to shenanigans. Various characters through the series play the part in various eps, but I do feel like Britta falls into the role most often, especially in later seasons. That's my speculation, anyway.
Happy community Monday 🎉
16:12 that’s ok, whoever wrote those questions isn’t as familiar with Star Trek as they thought. There are many episodes where they visit stars. They just don’t purposefully try to land on them… for some reason
Also although you miss Troy from here on out, the new characters and dynamics that come in are good and I never tire of them on rewatches. And Donald Glover confirmed he's coming back for the upcoming Community movie.
🧡
After the show finished Ken Jeong did a show called Dr Ken where he played a Doctor who becomes an actor. The final episode ties into Community, it has Dan Harmon and a number of the smaller roles like Garrett and Magnitude.
Tbh, I cried then when the ep aired, I cried again just now watching it with you. It's never not sad because of how loved and important Troy and Donald Glover were to everyone. I love Atlanta, went to see Childish Gambino in concert, wouldn't have it any other way... but still miss him in every ep going forward. 🧡
What an amazing pair of episodes. I think the whole Fat Dog thing is an all-time side plot, just a good ol' wildly hilarious Community story.
Troy brings a sense of whimsical innocence that brightens any darkness at least 33%
Donald glover confirmed in multiple interviews that hes coming back for the movie, its gonna be so emotional
Since you said you weren't familiar with Star Trek, the line: "you never go to a star... you... not one episode..." isn't really right. There were actually a number of episodes from TNG alone (Burton's show) where they were closely orbiting a star and dealing with the star itself in some way (restarting a dying star for the population of an orbiting planet, for example). Since Troy is written as generally very ignorant and naive about science and the world, I assumed the writers understood my above point and that the implication was therefore that Troy believed one could land on a star like a planet. That's my head canon for it at least and I think it makes the ending a lot funnier. Anyway, thanks for the reaction as always!
My head canon explanation was that they only usually refer to a star if it's distant and in orbit or close proximity they call it a sun, and Troy doesn't understand they're the same...or yours, they never trek on a star.
I was hoping someone made this comment. I suppose it might have been out of character for Burton to go, "Well, actually..."🤓👨🔬🔭
Right? I'm so glad someone else mentioned that comment, lol. They go to plenty of stars! Hell, Beverly goes INTO a star in one episode.
I probably yell "it's a bear dance!" at least once a week.
Legit paused this video to go watch your reaction of first episode of firefly! Omfg im so stoked
IT’S A BEAR DANCE!!!
I love the community 😂 my favorite show Chang is hilarious
Yes Chang paid for his crimes, as in the beginning of season 5 he says he turned himself in and did time in prison
What Britta did was waaay worse than what Abed did
Technically, but he started it all bc she had the audacity to say she didn't want to hear spoilers lmao 😭
There's a TNG episode where they fly a shuttle craft literally into another star, common troy. This was a proper send off however I dont mind chevy's with how he was.
20:29 Your reaction to the wall breaking and a bat flying out was perfect.
26:18 The IT lady is played by Paget Brewster. She is an amazing actor and person.
26:42 "EVERYTHING!" is a reference to the 1994 film, "Léon: The Professional."
Do we get a shadowcat-dances-to-the-intro-music-supercut at the end of the series?
Jus to say congratulations onbthe newcomer tibyouband your husband. We all understand your scheduling changes and support you in whatever you choose to do. Wishing you all the blessings
Star Trek is amazing! You should start watching that at some point!
Has literally no one ever seen Alien 3?
5x05… the episode Dan Harmon admits as ‘The Day Community Died’.
I don't know the finale was satisfying. And season 6 has its moments
Troy was a great character and Donald Glover killed it. Really sad to see him throwing his hat in with Kanye "I like Hitler" West now these days. Makes it harder to rewatch the series without thinking of DG hanging out and joking around with the MAGA cap wearing, Nazi-praising posse that surrounds Kanye for weeks in the studio and being cool with all the horrible shit they say.
Oof, that is disappointing.
Uhhhhhhh can you explain that? I missed all of that
@@DJLawrence Kanye West has been openly antisemitic for some time now, but recently went on Alex Jones InfoWars and went so hard into the Nazi paint (saying shit like "the Nazis were right" and "I like Hitler") that even Alex "I tormented the grieving parents of dead toddlers" Jones had to push back and say he didn't like the Nazis before cutting to abrupt commercial break.
Now after all that, DG is collaborating with Kanye who he called the greatest rapper in history, and recently released tracks on his Childish Gambino radio show of the music he made with Kanye.
When was the last time we saw John Oliver? He was literally the last character you saw in the most recent episode.
Lol I meant before this season!
it's all downhill from here, Troy's absence is really felt for the rest of the series
*spoilers*
Troy, Pierce and a certain character we lose next season are certainly missed, but I'd hardly say it's all downhill from here. Some of the best is yet to come. More D&D, Jesus wept!, Meow Meow Beans, Email hacking, the wedding, the finale...
