      Hello Andrew,
Thank you... being on the bike does wonders for my mind and getting this first ride out of the way and feeling fine afterwards was great.

Well done Paul, the temptation to make a "HIP" joke was enormous as I still have a couple that have yet arrive in the comments. Instead, I'll simply wish you continued strong progresse.

      Hello Stu,
All is good thanks and no issues after the ride. This last week I clocked up 50 miles on the bike, which I am really pleased about. Hopefully I'll do a similar next week. Thanks for watching.
      Take care.

Southsea looks really tropical! I lost count of how many palm trees you passed. I cycled some of that route last summer when I cycled National Cycle Network route #2 from Brockenhurst to Dover. I had to take 4 ferries and one of them was from Eastney to Hayling Island. The final trip I did last year was from Winchester to Bishop Waltham which was part of the Pilgrims Trail. This was what I call a ‘bike and hike’ trip where I try to cycle as much as I can but I also have to do a bit of walking as it's mainly a walking route but the Brompton can be manoeuvred through kissing gates and over stiles. I was hoping to finish it last year but the weather and train strikes conspired against me and then in November I fell off my bike and broke my hip. While lying hospitalised I wondered whether I would ever finish this route. I am London-based and since the operation I have been cycling in and around London but I decided to finish off the Pilgrims Trail and so I did return back in May (6 months after the op) to complete the route to Portsmouth. I took a train from Waterloo to Botley and then cycled from there to Bishops Waltham. Although it was only about four miles to rejoin the route at Bishops Waltham, I did feel physically exhausted at the end of those four miles even though it was on smooth roads but there was a slight incline to Bishops Waltham. At that stage I did wonder whether I would actually be able to complete the route. Anyway, I persevered and made steady progress and surprised myself until I got to Portsdown Hill and where there was a long hard slog walking up it and then a really terrifying downhill section all the way down to Portsea Island and on to the Continental Ferry Terminal in Portsmouth where theoretically one continues the pilgrimage to Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy. I just made my way to Portsmouth & Southsea station instead and back to London by rail.

      Hello,
You've clearly have done some bike riding near where I like... I do plan to make a video at some time taking the Hayling Ferry... since the 70's out cycling club starts there rides from the top of Portsdown Hill,
I have often thought about walking the via Francigena... I guess maybe I could cycling it, Thanks for watching.
      Take care.

Well done from one replaced hip brompton rider to another. Had mine done 5 years ago when I was only 74! And it's been great. Too much traffic and inconsiderate car drivers in your neck of the woods for me. I will stick to my rural lanes in sunny Spain. Good luck

      Hello Bill,
Thanks for dropping by... I am pleased to hear your replacement hip is still serving you well and you get to enjoy the rural lanes of Spain. I am super pleased with my hip and hope to explore more on my Brompton as I get stronger and stronger.
      Take care.

Hi Paul. In addition to my previous comment I must say that the cycle lanes between the beach and parked cars looks like a recipe for an accident. You definitely need to watch out for people stepping out in front of you, as a few did in your video. Take care. 👍😎

      @ThePensionerAdventurer  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Andrew,
The cycle lane is a nightmare for the reasons you said... I do use it when on the Brompton as speed is limited but on a road bike I just use the road as it is a lot safer. Thanks for watching.
      Take care.

      Hello Miriam,
Thank you, it was so nice to ride again out in the fresh air... everything was fine the following day and I did a 11 mile ride on the Brompton. All rides have been on the flat and I suspect hills could be somewhat challenging. Thanks for watching.
      Take care.

Hi Paul, Catching up on some videos that I missed over the summer break. I hope you didnt over do it on your first ride out, I guess a nice flat stretch like that was fairly low stress, maybe Portsdown hill is for later!! It must be a great relief to be back on the bike again, how many miles are you up to now?
Lovely ride through Southsea and Eastney, my old barrio (neighbourhood) I would often walk the seafront to Old Portsmouth when I lived there. Its constantly changing, I always notice something when I go back, this time it was the work on the sea defences right the way down Langstone harbour and on the seafront in Southsea by the castle. Theyve also installed a D Day landing craft near the museum, something to visit another time!!
    Have a great week!!

      Hello David,
I hope you had a good break... After filming the video I did a couple more rides on the Brompton and then switched over to my road bike... I clocked up 85 miles in total last week and the longest ride was 27 miles. It is great to be out and about again and the weather has been kind to me which helps.
I plan to film a few promenade rides at some time in the future. Thanks for watching.
      Take care.

      Hello Nobby,
The video was not the complete ride... but in total I rode just over 7 miles... The sun was out and a nice day to start cycling again. Thanks for watching.
