  • Brompton Ride to Test GoPro Mounts - In todays video I take a ride along Portsmouth and Southsea's seafront to test my Brompton GoPro handlebar mount and also my GoPro Chest strap. The footage is from the handlebar mount as the chest strap on filmed my handlebars and Brompton bag. Clearly more work for me to setup the chest strap.

You didn't show a close up of the mount you used. It may just need tightening to the frame more or an extra rubber insert adding (the Brompton handlebars are quite narrow) to stop it slipping forward as you go over the bumps - a bit of inner-tube wrapped around the bar works too and helps with the vibrations also.
Another mounting option is a 'Forevercam Metal Bicycle Mount for GoPro" style mount for the camera - Suzanna Thornton uses one (like it) as it means the camera's not just locked facing forward, but can film sideways too to show what you're travelling past...
When you wear the chest mount, you need to mount the camera UPSIDE DOWN and angle it upwards a bit... So if you were standing up straight it would be filming mostly sky, but when you're leaning forward on the bike in a riding position it would film straight in front of you and if you lean really far forward you would see the handlebars and top of the bag. Just experiment til you find the right angle for your riding position.
On action camera's, there's a setting to rotate the video 180 degrees while recording - but it looks the correct way up when viewing it on its screen. The 'Brompton Traveller' mentions it in one of his videos, but said he always forgot to change the setting back to normal for when it wasn't on the chest mount, so he stopped using that setting and just corrects it when editing his videos.
I don't know what video editing software you have access to, but all the ones I've used before have the option to rotate video 180 degrees, so even if it was recorded upside down, it looks correct on a computer screen when you edit it.
Hope that makes sense and helps.
    Happy adventures 👍

      Hello,
Thanks again for the tips... I do have a 'Forevercam Metal Bicycle Mount for GoPro' I saw this some time back on Leonard Lee's channel. I will fit a rubber shim to hopefully fix the problem of it moving.
I was not aware about inverting the GoPro on the chest strap, that is great to understand. I use Openshot to edit with and it will rotate the footage so I should be okay.
I will make the changes and do another ride to test them, thanks again for your support.
      Take care.

@@Bokooda I have a mount very similar to this one, and used it with my Brompton in Australia and Thailand on a few rides. It nodded forward as well, but the problem was not the connection between the mount and the handlebar, but where the GoPro connects to the top of the mount. It just wouldn't get tight enough to hold it firmly in place, and then became difficult to tighten really 'tight'
