I'd love to see a comparison video on the K8 and the ENTR. I personally own a K8 myself, it's got a lot of features for the money. The only two things that kinda stink is the height (I haven't had issues with it but others have) and the brightness of the backlight which isn't the greatest in all honesty. Also thanks for being one of the first keyboard RUclipsrs I watch to talk about the K8!
I just watched the RJN review and it was basically "this is a cool mouse and it's really good but I hate it anyway don't @ me" Which, to be fair, is probably accurate for most reviews hahaha. But that's just par for the shape because that's just how the cookie crumbles fall through the holes and into into the MM720 by Cooler Master ARE YOU KIDDING?? LET'S GO!
Those stabilizers don't inspire confidence in me to buy one of these. This is a definite pass for me since Drop has refused to really address this problem. Good Review and keep up the good work!
I dig that this is what you ended up doing for a living. Still not sure I wanna buy the keyboard, but top notch production quality is really great in these kind of reviews.
It's a pretty nice kb. If your a office guy and want something crisp to type.... Yea I can see who would go for this.... Dude can't wait to see your review of the wireless glorious modle o.
I had to rewind bc I thought Brian said "Gag, Yellows" then I remembered that the ENTR when I looked at it offered Gateron Yellows. "OOOOOOh!! GAT yellows". 🤣
I bought a green one with Halo Trues as a refurb for $50. ! I already knew I like Halos in general but I discovered I liked the Trues so much I bought a couple of boxes for future projects. I also have a bigly priced CTRL and ALT. So yea, I like Drops. And I got a great beater keyboard for $50. What's not to like?
My brother just mentioned wanting a 60-65% board in the future. I vehemently told him I’d help him find one with a hot swap pcb. He didn’t seem to care about the hot swap feature because he has no interest in becoming a keeb enthusiast. I told him even if he never changes or lines switches to still go hot swap. At the end of the day I’m not gonna let him get a board that’s not hot swap whether he likes it or not.
i just tried a gk61 with gateron optical blacks and they have really suprised me. for 65$ your getting a 60% layout with optical swithes ad metal plate and toe to toe rgb with corsair if your into that
I don't get the "entry level" mech keyboard with soldered switches. No point for a noob to purchase this board if they can't dive into swapping switches. Great video.
You can kinda lube switches without taking the switches out, it definitely helps a bit. What makes this keyboard a decent buy is the solid choice of switches. Gat yellows are great and I havent tried the trues but I'm assuming they are better than browns
Hi Brian! I am a big fan of your channel! It would be great to see a review of the Drop Shift keyboard! I use a num pad at work and would love to get a mechanical keyboard with hot swap switches like the Drop Shift. Thanks for creating great content!
7:37 - Which is weird, as there is, I saw on images of the PCB, an STM32F072C8 chip driving this thing, so should in theory run QMK just fine. (Citation needed.)
Absolutely hated the halo trues when I got em on my massdrop alt (older variant), finally landed on box whites. I really dig that no indicator look, with the lights glowing brighter under those certain keys though 👍🏼
@@badseedtech basically fixed every complaint people had about it then? nice. i’m in the same boat as yashua follow up vid would be dope if u can get ur hands on one
If the white backlight was more of a pure white than a pale yellow, and the stabilizers were better (or at least lubed; I'm a mechanical KB noob but want to get into it, and those things made me cringe lol), this would be a great beginner board. Personally I'd much rather pay the slightly higher price for Drop's full-featured version of this board, the CTRL.
Id like to get onto the mech train with a prebuilt board, to jumpstart from there into the custom scene, but the ISO layout is technically non-existent. I see a lot of great keyboards with a very reasonable price, but they all in ANSI, Id like to see a trend, where companies make budget prebuilt board is ISO and ANSI. that would be heaven
I thought it was hot-swappable? I looked up online and it says it hot-swappable but there are other sources like this video that say it's not. Can someone confirm whether the Drop ENTR is hot-swappable or not?
Hey Badseed, you ever take a look at the Keycool KC84? It's a 75% hotswap board. I've been wanting to get it and the reddit reviews I heard on it are mainly good, but I've heard iffy things too. It's got a good budget pricepoint of $89 on Amazon too, so it seems to be a great pick for an entry point with the size I'm looking for. You're the guy I go for tech and peripheral reviews so it'd help me a ton knowing your more educated thoughts on the board.
Yeah I was using a Ducky Mecha mini, wanna try this one out. Turn out it is not bad, but not as good as I thought so I give it to my gf and bought myself a KBD75V2 with Tealios :D :D :D
I opened mines up the stabs are "lubed", but only from the tip to like half way before the bend. It's mostly meaningless honestly. After clipping, lubing, and band-aid modding them though they're pretty decent.
Any chance for a new collab with BT, Frank P., or any other RUclipsrs in the near future? Loved the last one that y’all did a while back, and it’d be sick to see y’all do one again!
I'm really not sure hot-swap would be that important for an entry level product. If you bought a keyboard for under 100$, you're probably not looking to spend close to another 100 for a set of switches just to try out something new. For this keyboard in particular or a Keychron, it's about the same price to just order another one with different switches as it would be to buy a TKL set of switches separately and then swap them out. Maybe i'm missing something here, but it feels the same as detachable cables on cheap earphones: kind of pointless, as the price of a replacement cable is barely cheaper than buying a new pair of earphones instead.
I currently got the ice white gmmk with lubed and filmed gat clears, waiting on my SA profile to get come in but even with the stock keycaps mannnn does she sound and feel good.
