    Mendoza saying Otto is ready to take the ball anytime is the lowest level compliment you can give to a pitcher. It's like saying "there's a broken car in my driveway, but it's there every day."

    The Mets will also do 4 time zones in 10 days starting Aug 22nd. From NY(EDT) to SD(PDT) to AZ(MST) to CHW(CDT).

    Hey, it's your loyal Mariner fan listener again. First, Im sorry for that brutal drubbing by my team. Im happy for the wins, of course, as that keeps us tied with Houston for the Division lead.
    But here is a little stat that MIGHT help mitigate the pain; the Mariners have surrendered fewer runs than any team this season at just 432. The next best, at 464, is Milwaukee. Nobody hits well against the Mariners this year. That pitching staff is unreal.
    And finally, WHAT A BRUTAL ROAD TRIP!!! Im not surprised that the guys looked tired yesterday. Your boys need the rest today.
    That's it from the PNW. Have a great week, but watch out for those Red Birds. They're quietly staying in Wild Card contention.
    LGFM! (I mean Mariners, of course.) 😉

    sorry, one more annoying comment on fatigue (ok, all my comments are annoying):
    Lindor's error was one of concentration, and it help cost us the game (or a chance of winning)
    Lindor is a terrific shortstop and player (our best by far), and he plays almost every inning of every game.
    I would like to see OMG play short once every week or 2, and Lindor DH those days.
    JDM has been very poor, though Mets have the 10th highest OPS from the DH spot this year.
    Still, JDM has a 236 BA and 694 OPS post ASB, versus 263 and 806 pre ASB
    JDM also has a pronounced left/right split: 884 OPS vs. LH; 740 OPS vs RH
    Sit JDM vs. some righties (Marte will also need time, and he can't field well anymore).

    Saw a podcast interview on Friday with my favorite on field journalist, Tricia Whitaker with the Rays. She was asked which MLB team that has not gotten a lot of national attention does she think can make a deep run in October. Her response was the Seattle Mariners. Based on this weekend, cannot say she is wrong. The Mariners are the only MLB team that has never appeared in a World Series. The Rays, Rockies, Brewers and Padres have been in World Series, but have never won a championship. The Mariners are the only team that has never been in a World Series. We will see if this is their year.

    You would think that hitting more ground balls would yield fewer home runs, but that correlation does not hold water with Alonso. His ground ball rate is up this year(.96 GO/AO) compared to last year(.76 GO/AO), but not as high as in 2019(.98 GO/AO) when Pete hit 53 HRs. The real issue is Pete's barrel %. He is just not squaring up the ball and yielding fewer extra base hits and lower SLG.

    We definitely need these 2 series coming up. But, we have allstars. Takes one to get that spark going, we saw what Lindor and Nimmo were doing for a while, as well as JD. And then McNeil. I'm thinking Alvarez and someone else comes alive for us. A big hope but not far from reality. The pitching makes me bi polar though 🤣😂 love you ladies, thanks!

    Can't wait till Marte comes back. Last year when he was out this happened as well. Alverez is banged up which is affecting his defense and his clutch hitting is not what it was. I think maybe the new rules has also played a factor in his stance (pitch clock and more baserunners stealing).

  • @jamesbuckley8917
    @jamesbuckley8917 2 месяца назад

    This team is so bi-polar. They started off losing 5 in a row. Then they went 12-3. Then they had a horrible end of April/May, and went 10-25. Then they had an unbelievable 7 weeks at 33-15 until the Senga injury, after which we are at 6-9 right now on this roller coaster ride, with 44 games left. Sorry, but it's looking like 18-26 to finish at 79-83.

    Need to keep Baty around due to Pete's uncertainty. Baty is trade bait in the off-season, along with McNeil. A lot depends on whether or not Alonso is re-signed. Mauricio & Acuna are in the 2025 mix too.

    Great show as always ladies! I'm a bit optimistic so I'm only accepting 7-2 during the next 9 games. A sweep of the A's & marlins while maybe taking 2/3 from the O's, anything else less confirms that we have to start looking into the next year. THEY have to take advantage on how ATL is playing horrible baseball while the Phillis are not so great as well. They have a chance to not only making it to the playoffs but also taking the division as well. If they are going to make an impact this month or show any type of fight left in this team, it all starts Tuesday. #LFGM #STOPHATINGONSMILES

    Thank you for this week's podcast. I hope to see the NY Mets organization celebrating a 2024 Championship with a grand ticker-tape parade through Broadway, from the Battery to City Hall in the Canyon of Heroes. Ashley, what Pete said differs from what you want to hear from him. Perhaps Pete and Ottavino could benefit from a refresher in media training, like Accountability 101. Pete's offensive struggles, especially with runners in scoring position, are evident. A playoff run capped by an Alonso-led World Series win could overshadow his regular season performance. Lastly, as Samantha said, "Let me hand you off to someone who disagrees with that statement-here's Ashley." Ottavino's reliability on the mound is inconsistent. However, there's always the potential for him to rise to the occasion in crucial moments, which should keep us all on the edge of our seats. We'll see. Time will tell. God bless and enjoy your week, Ladies and Gentlemen. 🫶

    Braves are in a free fall, but the Mets are falling with a parachute. Mets are 6-9 since the Senga injury. The Giants, with their 2 aces, are the team to worry about. SF owns the tiebreaker over the Mets, are 12-4 over their last 16 games, and only 1 game behind the Mets. They have a 4-game homestand vs. the Braves starting today.

    After the Friday and Saturday loss, the team should have changed their approach. Should have tried to manufacture runs, throw the Mariners off their game. But nope, same old approach which was not working. How about a bunting for a base hit to start the game, hit and run etc... But they are in the same position they were in when they left for the trip.

    Mets offense is LAST in the NL in August in OPS, SLG, RBI, HR, & Runs scored. They definitely peaked early, but there's enough time left to get hot again. All we have left is the HOPE(which is not a strategy) that they will get hot again.

    MLB statistics support the knee down stance. Catchers can convert borderline low pitches into strikes more easily with this stance. Catchers have used it throughout baseball history, like Tony Peña, who caught for 18 seasons with six MLB teams in the '80s and '90s. A four-time Gold Glover, he used a variety of knee-down, low-to-the-ground stances.

    • @SamanthaCrostonTV
      @SamanthaCrostonTV 2 месяца назад

      Thanks this is helpful. Are there any statistics on how it impacts blocking?

    • @jamesbuckley8917
      @jamesbuckley8917 2 месяца назад

      @@SamanthaCrostonTV In baseball, catchers can block pitches with at least one knee down, which is also known as the One Knee Down (OKD) catching technique. The knee-down position can help catchers convert borderline low pitches into strikes. However, the right-knee down stance can limit a catcher's lateral mobility, making it difficult to block pitches that are wide misses.

    • @jamesbuckley8917
      @jamesbuckley8917 2 месяца назад

      @@SamanthaCrostonTV This year is on pace to have the second lowest rate of passed balls and wild pitches since 1890. (1st was last year).
      For WP+PBs, this is set to be the lowest rate since 2005.
      Still seeing no sign one-knee catching is causing more PBs/WPs in the majors

    We've been saying for weeks that the upcoming stretch of games will determine if the Mets have enough to make the playoffs. Well, in the last 16 games we are 7-9, and now we have the 10 hardest games in a row coming up. So the answer is no. Prove me wrong; go at least 7-3 in the next 10, then we'll stay excited. Otherwise, Mets funeral on August 29th.

    First, stop the travel nonsense.
    It had nothing to do with the Mets performance. Cities and time zones for pro athletes who travel on private planes with beds, stay in 5-star hotels, do not wait on TSA lines, do not wait for luggage, do not wait for anything. Please, enough with this. It just has no effect. They could be tired due to playing 100 games, but it has nothing to do with where they play.
    Second, Alvy. 2 reasons he is on one knee:
    1. It is more comfortable
    2. It is better to frame pitches from this position than the position you showed with the bobblehead.
    Alvy is 9th in MLB on framing, vs. 41st for Torrens.
    The real issue is that Alvy is an overall disaster defensively (not hyperbole). 3 dropped balls on the trip (2 PB). He just plain misses pitches.
    Using Baseball Savant, Alvy is 63rd out of 64 in blocking (Torrens ins 49th). This is unacceptable (though Torrens is not great at this either).
    On throwing runners out stealing, Avly is at 11% (3 for 28, 45th in league), vs. league average of 30%. Torrens is at 64% (5th), though this is 7 for 11.
    Having said that, Torrens is as good as it gets, and the 11 is low as teams know not to run on Torrens.
    Now, as to hitting, Alvy is completely lost
    179 BA with 479 OPS since the ASB
    hitting 195 average on non-fastballs - he tries to pull everything, and swings for a homer no matter what.
    The league has figured him out, and he cannot hit right now (not alone on the Mets in this).
    It is clear that Torrens should play more than Alvy;
    Alvy needs a wake-up call; his energy is great, but not channeled properly (too much talking to opponents and umps).
    He is young, has great upside, but if the Mets want to improve their chance of winning games, that will happen with Torrens playing more than Alvy.
