I wish everyone would adopt a set of standardized terminology when discussing these things. Is a camera setting "baked in" is a good, well understood term for when the setting actually affects the pixel bytes stuff in the raw file. "Applied from metadata by default" is a good term to mean the pixel data wasn't changed but most all editing programs read the metadata and apply it every time. "Applied from software default" means the default is built into the software rather than being read from metadata. Finally, everyone should mention whether software allows one to change the value from what was either read from metadata or the software's defaults. And whether the software allows one to see the file with that setting ignored.
It is a shame when people who are experienced tell others that JPEG compares to RAW it doesn't in any way shape or form! Thanks for this video, great work! :)
Maybe before shooting the photograph, you could set a custom white balance with an expodisc or gray card, doing this for years don’t like spending time behind a computer, rather go out and shoot.
@Anthony I came across this as I want to figure out what exactly it means that the WB is "baked" into the image and the technical difference to the RAW. Are there more bits stored for the color or what is the technical reason? anybody knows?

Thank you Anthony - that explains the difference very well. I would like to add how much I like your honesty with your Newsletters.

Interesting! Where can I learn more about this?
@@edwinreidel1889 More about color management? Or more about my opinions about how to communicate about color management?
This is new jargon, to me@@GrantSR! Is color info saved to metadata of compressed images in some cases? And if so, can it be removed/replaced?
Thanks for this. Anthony's presentations are much appreciated. He is my go-to guy for processing.

I always shoot in RAW but this has cleared up some issues regarding WS. Thanks Anthony
This is exactly why I love shooting RAW only. For my work, jpegs are only good for sharing.

Is there any vignetting setting in the camera for the jpeg? Otherwise Sony have an issue.
Great explanation. Thanks
Does converting a jpg to a dng have any effect on how well you can adjust the white balance?
JPEG images do not contain raw image data.
@@jagaro Thank You.
One of the numerous advantages of shooting RAW. Thanks, Anthony.
