Who knows if in a future playthrough the strategies you learned in this will come in handy. It wouldn't be a bad idea to role with a charged up, modded out stun baton in future playthroughs when going through a big POI. CC is next to none as you've learned. "No one's mentioned that the baton is designed to work with the turrets" We kept on saying that over and over. Ranged turrets especially are good at exactly what you were lacking in this series, from your self-imposed restrictions.
I was gonna mention this, cuz I've said at least twice the past few years, especially that's what the original design was when "Baton's Sucked" before. I said they didn't suck in pre=A19, they are tactically a CC (Crowd Control) weapon and you use literally anything else to finish them off but people like Woodle and others complained until TFP made them OP.
it is funny how you mention knuckles, when in caffee series you respecked from them into sledgies because were doing not enough damage. I get a feeling that no matter what weapon you pick it would not do enough damage ;P I think the amount of damage is far more subjective than you think. But i do agree batons fall behind in late game because of no 3rd tier. That's the biggest downside imho.
It's a fact that melee weapons are less useful on maximum difficulty, but the stun baton takes too long to kill, the stun effect helps but doesn't hide that defect. The lack of T3 to further enhance the weapon makes it less useful. The secret of success depends entirely on the possibility of execution otherwise you will not kill anything.
Statistically the bayon doesn't actually fall behind. It kills on % chance and that doesn't change with difficulty. So technically a maxxed out baton will kill an an irradiated white on insane nightmare difficulty as it would an irradiated white on adventurer difficulty. Once baton is maxxed out it actually nullifies additional difficulty. The thing that got Josh was that there were more zombies and they were faster while he got too comfortable.
@@Me__Myself__and__I The 10% instant kill is the same but decap chance goes down as difficulty goes up. That's true for all weapons though but you feel it more with knives and batons that rely on it.
@@TrojanSparty Good point. But from what I've heard using turrets should more than make up for that. And it seems we're gonna get to see him try a proper Int build for a week.
Loved the series, I understand it was a baton only run but batons aren't really meant to be just a solo thing, I would love to see an intellect build where you use the full perks of the tree, the baton is awesome when paired with 2 AP terry the turrets running, I can drop them on either side of a choke point and stand between and the repel keeps tossing them back into the turrets firing range, staying calm is also a big part of it as well and knowing when to push forward if the zeds get past the turrets and you don't have a charge to send them as well. IZPrebuilt made an intellect series not too long ago that you might consider watching for ideas :) . Overall I look forward to your next playthrough and hope you give a full intellect tree run a try one day.
so really your only complaint is their is no steel tier weapon for the stun baton, when you compared the baseball bat to the stun baton the damage was almost the same. So if their was a steel tier stun baton the damage would be close to the steel club. Also i run the stun baton late game with nightmare speeds as well as hardest difficulty you just need more time with the stun baton to get good with it. If I am not mistaken you had the same distaste for the iron crossbow and now its one of your go to weapons. You should give it a chance with a gun.
Well, at least I did mention that you should use batons and turrets and I saw at least 3 or 4 comments of others reminding you. So I dont agree that No one mentioned the turrets. But nice series. Go on with your great work, Mate.
Man what a series this was! It started as the worst series that I've ever seen in this channel (the constant whining that the baton wasn't good enough while the episodes showed the baton saving his ass multiple types were not entertaining in the least), but the moment he came back from vacation and gave the baton a fair shot, things changed for the better. You could see that he was in denial for a while but was forced to admit that the baton is a pretty decent weapon. The final horde base was also super cool and I would love to see more bases that takes the ideas explored in JaWoodle Park and bring them into the survival series. Let's see what a full intellect build with baton + maxed out tier 6 turrets can do in this extra week!
OMG Robotics only next!!! Engineer run! You could still use box/xbow for hunting, waking up Zs etc. You'd have to make sure to have good ammo, choose between double turret/sledge combos, have a good escape plan and bases would have to be on point but I think it's doable. Anyway GREAT VID and series, nice job and thanks!
YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW EXCITED I AM TO SEE WHATS BEHIND THAT DOOR!!! I'm glad you gave the baton a go Josh, thank you so much for this series. It was everything I didn't know I wanted it to be.
Honestly, this series has probably been my favourite. Noticeable difference once you came back from holidays, being recharged made a world of difference how I saw it. Looking forward to all your future content mate! Also, amazing that you've amassed another 13k subs since starting this series!
Glad you finally came around to the baton at least a little bit. There are flaws, for sure...but they are also really good as is. I whole heartedly agree with your recommendation that light attacks are to charge the baton, and power attacks should be the discharge mechanic. That and a T3 baton to up the damage a little bit more would be nice. I'd even be okay with them lowering the decap chance a little. The idea is to knock them down, get them jiggly, and then let your turrets and traps do a majority of the damage.
As an int main. Yes Robotics, Tarps, And batons is a very powerful way to play. Sure you have setup but it is not hard to keep two junk turrets on your bar and just sheard things at choke points. Heck you don't even need a full on choke point you can drop your turrets down in the middle of the road and take on a wondering horde if you set them up right and use the baton to deal with the ones that get through. It is a different way to play but very solid. Its main draw back being the very slow start since you need to spec into the perks and find the books to unlock the recipes. Taking damage is also not a huge deal under int builds as your access to physician meds topping you health off is easy since you will spec into the skill anyways for the buff to batons you now also just get more health from your med kits, your limbs heal fasters, and any other ailment is cured fasters. So take that hit and after your repulser procs take that opening to top off your health and you will still have time to go smack dudes. All in all I personally really enjoy the Int build for 7days.
With 4 JDs on a horde night you can keep picking the idle depleted turrets and reload them so there's always 2 turrets unloading constantly on the horde. If you have all the sneak perks and some electric fences setup on timed relays so they can last all night long, your turrets will get stealth multiplier damage on the stunned zeds. Add a few SMG turrets as backup and you can spend horde nights without firing a round/swinging a weapon.
Woodle you did way better with batons only than you did with fists only. You also used Sammy in fists only 2. You barely broke a sweat with the last horde with batons. Nerdtats saved your life more times in the series, where fists would have let you die.
Thank you for doing the series. To pitch a mini series, it would be interesting if you took Intel build vs Strength build (club/shotguns vs stun baton/turrets) and see what many of us are saying about Intel builds since A21. I understand you were really testing yourself with this series and the baton, I do hope you experience the Intel build at some point before 1.2 or whatever TFP release next.
To be fair surviveing 49 days with only baton no guns or junk turrets even on insane nightmare and besides a few woodle moments never really being in a super near death senario really speaks to the batons strenghs idk if a pure club with no guns at all can handle insane nightmare as well as batons since the dmg is higher but u also just eat alot more hits and never get that aoe breathingroom.
I always said that this is a good early to mid-tier weapon. However where I find it really shines is when you combine it with a knife. Stun the enemies stab them all real quickly and then start stunning and stabbing and they die very quickly. However I think like the crossbow you see that it does actually have more potential than a toilet bowl cleaner.
100k ppl just took a ride on your baton...glad i was here to see it and join the trip. This is the first series of anything i have ever watched every episode of on you tube without losing interest after a few episodes. ill be waiting to see what's next :)
Josh, the part you're missing is SBs are an integral part of a intellect build, so you'll be bound to be disappointed. This is true for any of the skill schools. E.g. a Strength build relying only on clubs would be a failure too. People doing a strength build always use shotguns too. You did use other components in an intellect build (i.e. electric fences and auto-turrets) but didn't make any use of the robotic turret which would've helped in a lot of situations. Overall, not bad.
I agree that the baton takes a while to perk up and does often take several hits to kill a zombie, HOWEVER, matched with firearms then it becomes unbeatable! All melee weapons are!
Everyone in the comments the whole series: "You should run turrets with the batons to get the full effect of the Intellect tree" JaWoodle: "No one in the comments have said anything about turrets, which should do really well paired with batons" I guess we all love the utter muppetry!! 🤣🤣 Great series! Loved every bit of it!!
I have died in room traps with autoshotguns, sledgies, clubs, lot of things...and you didn't die one time inside many sticky situations. Batons is a crowd control beast, if you had used other things to complement like turrets (also buffed by intelligence tree) or weapons you had breezed through this while the zeds are electrified, stunlocked forever and helpless.
I love when Josh ends a series with an additional "But wait there's more!" mini-series. It's just so fulfilling to me because I end up feeling so sad the original series was over. That being said, Wastelands II next please! 🙏
Cant wait to see what you got behind the Do Not Enter section. Hope you got a well equipped secret hoard night room prepped with turrets! Also, batons alongside any gun of choice is really good, stun down the mass of zombies, gun for headshots at a distance. Stun batons give you a mini shooting range on hoard nights, especially with your gated pathway you built. The RNG of the final hoard night was so disappointing 😭 im used to finding direwolves on day 14 hoards (i play multiplayer but normal difficulty) to not see a single direwolf in any of your hoard nights is a bummer tbh. And no insane nightmare demos??? I dont even think i saw a spider??
I actually did say you should be allowed to use turrets since it's in the same tree. But you called it batons only so I assumed you wanted to just try it out with only a baton. You did great by the way. No deaths!!!
Thank you for this series, Josh! You're talking about the highs and lows of the series, just wondering if a montage of that wouldn't be interesting and hilarious at the end of each series. Death drops, the squeels when you're trap in a corner, break-dancing balloons, etc.? I'll kill for that (kill with a baton even :P )
At the apex of my dropper base, I park a robotic sledge on each side before the drop. It's hilarious watching the zeds get punted back and forth, like a game of tennis, before they die or get booted off the platform.
re: Higher difficulties - I play with the zombies on nightmare but rarely turn the difficulty slider up but when I've done batons, feels like a mandatory start with the whole learn by looting system, I've had great success but just building up about 15 blocks and then the repulsor mod yeets them off into the great bloodmoon yonder and they sail far enough and fall far enough that I've never had problems with destroy area mode. The blender is a nice late game touch I've not tried before but, like, I just don't use electric fence posts anymore but I've never had problems with getting clapped standing behind two iron doors.
Side by side comparison test. Insane difficulty, nightmare speeds, a Tier 6 infested clear, level 75 character, spend your skill points accordingly, read all the books relevant, and run it with each melee weapon. See which one does best against the clock.
Well one! As a baton fan-boy I somewhat agree with your conclusion. As the sole weapon in your arsenal the baton is a bit lacking, but as a main weapon with a ranged backup it comes into its own, shockingly. My preferred loadout is baton and shotty, but an SMG or good pistol should be just as versatile. Keep the vids coming!
Great series Josh, glad you came around and realized you couldn't just treat it like a regular melee weapon. I might have to do an int playthrough next..
Yeah the pelican barely learned how to baton, but I give him the benefit of doubt knuckles are more straightforward and kinda brain dead you booze and just click while running like a headless chicken which matches with woodle style, batons require to make the most of choke points or highgrounds, and will totally decimate more safely anything in the game, slower ofc but safer in the end, him getting that much punched in the face was bc he's a pelican and a pelican never learns
We've been telling you since A20 that batons are well-above average melee weapons, and maybe only second to blades. You'd have died at least four times by now if you'd used only clubs. You'll LOVE the plasma baton in Darkness Falls
Another great one Joshy boy. Was a good time.. i love the baton as a combo weapon and i've had some great success with it. The shredder base was great as well!
You keep **the weirdest shit** in your bags, and I love it. Great series, it's been part of my morning routine every day. Coffee, breakfast, Joshwoodle.
So the first non perma death series using the "worst weapon in the game" (134 times you said it) you never died once but Jawoodle's Coffee you died because of over confidence and you inability to climb a ladder? wow....
We told you about using turrets as well. I believe your answer was "I have a baton, what do I need those for? It's batons only." I dont remember which episode that was though.
The way he says that is pretty cheeky cause he acknowledged that everyone was telling him to use turrets when he came back from vacation after pre-recording (around day 19/20)
Maybe it's just easier for a fellow Aussie to understand, maybe it's similar humour or something else. But why is it my favourite youtubers are ALL Aussies? Sure a few Americans make it just below like guns nerds and steel, but the Aussies really knock it out the park Thanks for the great series, excited for the next episode, I should really comment more on videos, best I do is like and share but ik commenting is the bigger help.
"Against higher difficulties and faster zombies", you mean like prebuilt who starts day one on insane nightmare and says the baton is over powered? The only part of your ending monolog that holds any water is "i don't like the way it feels", and thats fair i prefer clubs as well because it fits me better, but I've never played a baton run and felt shorted by the weapon.
Lets not forget you did all this with a Tier 2 weapon. Try doing the same with iron knuckles, baseball bat or a damn iron spear lol. I bet you would struggle hard using a pumpy or an AK as well.
To be fair, Josh, I and many others have told you many times that the turrets and baton are complimentary. Most of that commentary was in the first two weeks, while you were in vacation, and your videos were annoying us with your vocal denial. I'm so happy that you returned from vacation with an open mind and turned this series around. I'm REALLY looking forward to you doing a proper Intellect playthrough, with two turrets (main) and two sledges (backup; outta ammo). IMO the ultimate Intellect playthrough is that setup with maximum Intellect, and extra skill points go into a mix of Fortitude (use 7.62mm) and Agility (parkour & use magnum ammo & archery), with all the shotgun shells and 9mm being dedicated to turrets. This way all the ammo you loot is useful, and the only thing getting wasted is all the zombies. Endgame arsenal is Baton, Vulture, M60, Crossbow with normal & exploding bolts, two Robo Turrets with AP ammo, and a pair of Robo Sledge Turrets in the drone.
Josh proves he has zombie brains for memory. People were telling him in droves to use turrets in the first couple of weeks and he told everyone no, it’s batons only.
I go by Woodle in my profession now, it's sad I know! "If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all" Never heard that, will try, cheers!!!
Time charges were made for pvp to take down blocks and doors, they made the updated locked chests to resist them and speed runners… ya know, the two smallest communities
Even I’m surprised at how little damage Woodle took from the loot room horde. He was getting smacked around pretty good, was bleeding and everything but only got down to 150 hp and most of that fight had him within a few points of full health
I'm a bit dissapointed that the series did not ended with a cinematic view of Josh driving away into the road, only to stop, throw the baton thrown the window (don't litter guys), and continue driving. XD
Best to worse Melee: Knives, Batons, Clubs, Spears, Knucks, Sledges - wish the spears didnt miss so much with the crosshairs on heads or else would be better. Knucks are ONLY good early game weapons for the low stamina use.
I think we now need the 4 basic rules of 7 Days safety: 1-treat every series like it’s Stun Batons Only (safely distance yourself, always have multiple escape routes, choke points, CHECK THOSE CORNERS!, etc.) 2-keep your fingers ON the recovery items for when you need them (for prevention, healing, or negative effects negation/recovery) 3-never take on a quest (trader or personal) that you can’t conquer in a single visit 4-know your loot, and what’s guarding it Add on if needed!
With slot locks being in the vanilla game and the game being in 1.0 status for a while, I can't believe that there isn't a good vehicle slot lock mod out there.
There is an issue with the slots "forgetting" in vehicles, I think due to vehicle manager changes. I'm sure someone will figure out a patch for it eventually.
I was saying you need to have three electric fences on timed relays so they take turns wearing down through the night. Also use a motion sensor to give the timed relays power only when there's a zombie visible for extra savings. I have an autohotkey macro that holds the primary mouse button down until it's clicked manually. And I still cannot see why rotating the door 90 degrees wouldn't improve the pathing and overall function of this kill box. At what point do we want the zombies confused about getting into the box?
Your comments about batons are accurate, however it begs the question, do even fully kitted steel clubs kill high power zeds within three hits? Is there another melee weapon other than perhaps fists that could go through 49 days with no support weapons of any kind? If so, which?
I don't know if you've done a day 7000 wrap up for this series yet, but I feel to drive the point about it not being about the damage, it should be with a tier 1 stun baton with only the wood chopper mod to reduce damage.
We need something like a messenger/book bag mod for armor that acts as storage for magazines and books, but only those that you have completed, as otherwise you can end up with them clogging your inventory. IMO this would not be OP because they don’t sell more much
LOL - F*ck yea. I am all about the turrets with the batons. This whole series brought me back to Woodle. The ability to drop down 2 active turrets in 3 different combinations is greats in different circumstances. Its just more CC, and more damage. The sledge turret is very entertaining too. Excited to see it. Side note, I felt it was odd that you didnt use melee candy or fortbites. I know your just trying to "roll the dice more" but ... still its a damage bonus, you have other candies, just add that too. There's no reason not to use them.
Batons Only might be ending but the FIRST SUPRA VIDEO COMES OUT TOMORROW!!! 🏎💨

1.0 Massively adjusted zombie HP, he hasnt really registered that yet. The next time he does a different melee only series there will be a reckoning.
Woodle has embraced the baton!
Woodle trying to roll a Tenner on a D8. Classic Pelican Behaviours.
No.. knuckles can work better it depends on the player
Everyone in the comments the whole series: "You should run turrets with the batons to get the full effect of the Intellect tree"
JaWoodle: "No one in the comments have said anything about turrets, which should do really well paired with batons"
I guess we all love the utter muppetry!! 🤣🤣
Great series!
Loved the series. Your videos are all so well put together!
At the apex of my dropper base, I park a robotic sledge on each side before the drop. It's hilarious watching the zeds get punted back and forth, like a game of tennis, before they die or get booted off the platform.
I agree. Batons aren’t the best but also not the worst. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Thanks for this series.
re: Higher difficulties - I play with the zombies on nightmare but rarely turn the difficulty slider up but when I've done batons, feels like a mandatory start with the whole learn by looting system, I've had great success but just building up about 15 blocks and then the repulsor mod yeets them off into the great bloodmoon yonder and they sail far enough and fall far enough that I've never had problems with destroy area mode.
Thank you
Keep the vids coming!
we all know the batton vs woodle was more like 70´: 30 :P
but what i loved it that the batton forced joshed to do things outside his comfort zone
Josh: by running intellect, you'll get a Deedee every series, and for like 2 whole weeks! That's a huge perk of running batons!
Welp sad to see it end
Thanks!
That army zombie stuck in the bars "Help me step-zombie" 😅
Great series Josh, glad you came around and realized you couldn't just treat it like a regular melee weapon. I might have to do an int playthrough next..
I submit to you that with ANY other melee weapon you would have died in that first encounter.
This...
Thanks for the series, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
We've been telling you since A20 that batons are well-above average melee weapons, and maybe only second to blades. You'd have died at least four times by now if you'd used only clubs. You'll LOVE the plasma baton in Darkness Falls
They have a laser baton in district zero with a plasma one also 😊
Am I the only one who wants ItzPreBuilt JaWoodle and Glock9 to do a Darkness Falls playthrough?¿?¿ I didn't think so
Great series Josh!!! Can't wait to see the next week!
Thank you for the fun series. Can't wait to see what you do next!
Bravo sir! A most excellent series. I enjoyed every episode! Cant wait for the next one!
Loved this series! Can't wait to see what's behind the door!
Amazing Finale Josh. You have proven that a challenge you are given you survive like the GOAT of 7 Days that you are. Amazing. Congrats
I really enjoyed the serie :) Good work Josh :)
The way he says that is pretty cheeky cause he acknowledged that everyone was telling him to use turrets when he came back from vacation after pre-recording (around day 19/20)
It was a pleasure to ride on your baton, Josh! Excited to see what comes next
Maybe it's just easier for a fellow Aussie to understand, maybe it's similar humour or something else.
But why is it my favourite youtubers are ALL Aussies? Sure a few Americans make it just below like guns nerds and steel, but the Aussies really knock it out the park
Thanks for the great series, excited for the next episode, I should really comment more on videos, best I do is like and share but ik commenting is the bigger help.
Clubs suck
Lets not forget you did all this with a Tier 2 weapon. Try doing the same with iron knuckles, baseball bat or a damn iron spear lol. I bet you would struggle hard using a pumpy or an AK as well.
That's fucking easy. I can do rad horde nights with iron knuckles.
You just need to watch the gameplay of me to know iron knuckles are still better than stun baton
An entirely honest and reasonable review.
I like Jawoodle now. Saying knuckles are so much better, which they are
You had 80+ old sandwiches and you were worried about making herbals.... make normal antibiotics!!!!! JEEZ
Need chemstaion for that which he didn't have in the wasteland.
@@Jawmax Campfire + beaker also works
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who caught that. Lol. Hopefully he will see this. Smh.😂
That was sarcasm hon.
Woodle loves pissing people off so they come and comment. It's sorta part of his shtick
I go by Woodle in my profession now, it's sad I know! "If you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all" Never heard that, will try, cheers!!!
nice series bro , worth the wait..
Time charges were made for pvp to take down blocks and doors, they made the updated locked chests to resist them and speed runners… ya know, the two smallest communities
Robotic Sledgehammer is the only sledgehammer worth your time.
Best series so far!
I cannot believe how quickly this has gone by! Love those dice ;)
Great series! I have loved this. Sad that it ended. Whats next? Thanks for the entertainment.
You dont know shit about melee weapons it seems
Knuckles are the best
Knuckles are the best late game.. lmao
Now, we get to see Woodle do batons, guns, and turrets
No one said anything about Torrents he literally lying to himself
That's the joke, fam 😂😂😂
Check the batteries in your sarcasm detector.
I think we now need the 4 basic rules of 7 Days safety:
1-treat every series like it’s Stun Batons Only (safely distance yourself, always have multiple escape routes, choke points, CHECK THOSE CORNERS!, etc.)
2-keep your fingers ON the recovery items for when you need them (for prevention, healing, or negative effects negation/recovery)
3-never take on a quest (trader or personal) that you can’t conquer in a single visit
4-know your loot, and what’s guarding it
Add on if needed!
There's confidence, over confidence, then there is Woodle confidence. One of these things is a sure-fire way to die.
FINALLY, complimentary weapons! Gonna be a good week.
This was a fun series
I was saying you need to have three electric fences on timed relays so they take turns wearing down through the night. Also use a motion sensor to give the timed relays power only when there's a zombie visible for extra savings.
I have an autohotkey macro that holds the primary mouse button down until it's clicked manually.
And I still cannot see why rotating the door 90 degrees wouldn't improve the pathing and overall function of this kill box. At what point do we want the zombies confused about getting into the box?
I think the stun baton is great for crowd control, especially when you get cornered.
Your comments about batons are accurate, however it begs the question, do even fully kitted steel clubs kill high power zeds within three hits? Is there another melee weapon other than perhaps fists that could go through 49 days with no support weapons of any kind? If so, which?
You did a great job. I like the baton. I found out that the zombies are easier to kill after they stand back up. I never play at your level.
Oh come on Josh! So many people have told you to use turrets! So many!!!!
Woodle raging about having to wait for the repulsed zombies to run back. Um didnt we learn before to have one non-repulsed for horde night?!
I don't know if you've done a day 7000 wrap up for this series yet, but I feel to drive the point about it not being about the damage, it should be with a tier 1 stun baton with only the wood chopper mod to reduce damage.
Great series!!
We need something like a messenger/book bag mod for armor that acts as storage for magazines and books, but only those that you have completed, as otherwise you can end up with them clogging your inventory. IMO this would not be OP because they don’t sell more much
Mate , ya HAVE to learn to park Deedii out of the way on Horde nights .
