Great review, completely agree
7:25 when you put the central post back in I don't know if the screw housing was correctly positioned. There's two little protruding "fangs" from two opposite corners of the housing that fit in the other plate. That helps keeping the screw from loosening up (although not that much).
However, if put incorrectly, there's gonna be a tiny difference in height that will make the feedback worse since the plates will be further apart.
I don't have the PEEK version but I use some thread seal tape to keep the central screw in place.
Thanks for pointing that out! I'll go back and have another look at it.
I bought this version because it looked the most like a "deep fried dough stick". It came apart within a couple of days and hasn't felt the same since. I guess I'll have to find some loctite!
I have similar concerns and dislikes about this one. You make a good point about the lack of weight/mass, and I don't think I mentioned that in my review. I have the stainless steel V1 TOP-D, and the weight definitely helps.
My biggest issue, which you also pointed out, was that it can rotate in locations that it shouldn't rotate, leading to wear and damage.
The lack of any "spring locators" bothered me too. I did manage to tune mine pretty good by taking someone's suggestion of doubling up those 2 springs. That improved things a lot.
I think that PEEK is actually kinda nice, when used in larger/thicker designs. I have 2 PEEK mechanical sliders that I like very much. They provide a much different haptic click than my PEI or POM mechanical sliders of the same design. Maybe give PEEK another "peak" down the road. You might find you like it better in a different design.
Thanks for the review 👍🙂
I’ll admit a slider might be better to due the fact that it’s flatter and wider so, in theory, easier to control. I’m not completely closing the door to PEEK yet but this combination just didn’t do it for me.
I like Peek top D and I haven't had a problem with it loosening, but that pin is finicky if its not put in exactly the right position. (a problem I had with my Zirc version) I also like the sound of the PEEK so it comes down to preference
Literally sitting on the couch playing with my dough sticks (top d) - my first hobby-tier fidget - which is still my fave :)
I'd love to pick it up in PEEK, but can't find it anywhere.
maybe it's a good thing haha
That said, while I don't have anything I'd be keen on trading, if you'd sell it, let me know 👊💥
@@RichMulholland send me a pm on Facebook and we can figure it out
I feel like Metal Toys products will always be a hit or miss in the community, but I think they’re always worth trying. I love my peek topd, I haven’t had any issues with it, but I also never too it apart and I don’t man-handle it when using it lol
I hear ya but I think any fidget should be able to work after being taken apart and "man-handled" a bit ;)
That’s a very valid point and I agree to that, sometimes we forget the comparable price of fidgets vs everyday items 😅
@@ETedc exactly. If it was $15 then sure. I wouldn't expect it to last more than a month but when these things are well over $100 you would expect some kind of longevity.
Did you try the horizontal zipper function?
I did. Just didn’t like it in any configuration unfortunately.
