@@Crocoroar yes, I understand. But as with the underneath passing, the willingness to run and successful execution is key for keeping opposing defenses guessing. Now that Patrick can make pre-snap reads, he can run/option or audible.
Yep. This adjustment from mahomes is a big reason why although he was pressured significantly more than burrow Allen etc he didn’t have to take as many sacks. This new mahomes is fine with taking a small positive gain rather than holding on to the ball and going for the big play every time.
Which is cool because the Chiefs can also change up the approach with their receiver talent group. Kelce is now key with his ability to dominate the intermediate catches and his chemistry with Mahomes is as good if not better than Burrow and Chase. The key guy they are hoping for is Kadarius Toney blowing up. Because his explosiveness with YACs is going to add more dimension with the short/intermediate pass game. And of course other guys WRs Veach has drafted with various but potent skillsets.
IMO, the thing that allowed Mahomes to evolve/adapt his game so quickly is that his identity as a QB isn't tied to a particular style of play; his identity as a player is tied to doing whatever it takes to win.
@@shafter1118, Andy Reid is exceptional at accentuating the strengths of his QB and designing plays to enhance his QB's natural skill set. It's no coincidence that as soon as he was blessed with Mahomes things took off for him even better than before. Reid/Mahomes is the perfect HC/QB pairing.
It's the shortstop background and thinking "just get the out." He can throw from any body position (including supermaning through the air) and hit his target. Boil down his game and it's always "complete the pass." He doesn't care if it's 5 yards or 55 yards, he wants to keep it moving. It just occurred to me too, how much does his scramble to the line, stop, and throw it resemble defensive play in a baseball pickle? Run a guy down, but stop and throw when he cuts back. Or stop, fake the throw, then take back off the catch the runner that tries to beat the throw the other way. It's hard to stop a guy that gets into a rhythm of completing passes. Taking away the diva potential means he has no one complaining about not getting the ball. They've all bought in to sharing the ball and just moving forward.
It really is one event that had to have motivated Mahomes to make the change that occurred last season. The 2nd half of the AFC Championship that the Chiefs lost to the Bengals had to have been a big motivator for Mahomes. I am not a football guru, but it was obvious the Bengals was forcing the Chiefs to go underneath, and Mahomes didn't do well at it.... Well that was until last season! His game evolved and he simply worked on his game where he was deficient, and as usual, he got MUCH better. He is an incredible QB that the Chiefs are blessed to have.
@maskedman5657 He beat drop 8 in the first half of that game. He just couldn't find the space in the second half. Still, they had a 3rd & goal with a chance to win it. Plus an incredible throw in OT (after a terrible one that should have been picked the play before) that could have been caught by Hill to set them up in the scoring zone.
@@maskedman5657He was beating the drop 8 all year in 2021. Bengals wernt the first to do it. Mahomes got greedy in the championship game and was forcing it where he shouldnt have
Aside from his insane physical talent and mental acuity, Mahomes also adapts to adversity faster than I've seen most quarterbacks do. Hell, he even does it better than a lot of coaches and coordinators.
No he doesn’t. It’s Andy Reid lol, he literally makes impossible to cover schemes where he only has to make one reid. He has extreme arm talent but he isn’t the mastermind that Brady was
@@dominiquewilsonYou mean the same andy reud that was the worst playoff coach in the nfl during his tenure in kc before mahomes? The same andy reid who never made adjustments or managed the game clock well before Mahomes? I wonder what the difference is? It’s mahomes you casual ass 😂
@@dominiquewilson He wasn't the mastermind that brady was and it's all Andy reid but let's forget all about Bill Belichick right? You haters are fucking hilarious
@@dominiquewilsonbro yes he does Mahomes is a football genius too , the difference is experience after 15-20 years there’s not gonna be a coverage you haven’t seen it’s only so many in the sport
As 49ers fans, this is why SF can't afford to start slow like they do every year except 2019. Kyle is great at scouting, scheming, and adjusting to what teams do, but he sucks at just coming out with an early plan/attack. Losing early (Bears, Broncos, Falcons) is what has cause the 49ers to go to Levis South in LA in 2021 and out to Pennsylvania in 2022.
@@PaulGaitherNo matter where the 49ers play in the playoffs, they will need an elite QB to finally get them to the peak of that mountain. Let’s hope Brock Purdy remains healthy or Trey Lance’s upside is finally realized by the team.
What’s amazing is that the defenses still set 2 safety’s deep, even with no real deep threat from KC. That’s showing respect to Mahomes major arm strength. They’re scared to pull anyone up closer.
Exactly. It's those deep crossers too, the 1 high safety can't really come out of the sky to defend those. But yeah, any deeper throws, they want to take those away no matter what
Yes time has refined Patricks play for the better, keep in mind tho, attacking the underneath opens up the deep routes as well. Its a beautiful thing to witness. Go chiefs ❤️💛❤️💛
Teams had been playing them with two deep safeties for a while. So they went and got MVS and Juju and then traded Hill. They wanted to change up their style and paying Hill 30 million a year to run short routes like that doesn't really make sense. Look at the receivers they've drafted the past two years, Moore is a slot receiver and Rice is a tall jump ball guy. They had the opportunity to draft a speed guy in Hyatt this year and they passed on him for Rice instead. While other teams are trying to create their version of legion of zoom, the Chiefs are on to their next phase and it won them a Superbowl. Yet they still managed to lead the league in 20+ yards plays.
That and Reid has been playing with a different way to attack with short concepts. He was busting out 12/13 personnel condensed sets in 2021 but didn't really have the guys (and a reliable hard runner) to truly threaten with it. You saw more of it in 2022 because they lucked into Pacheco whose the hard runner along with McKinnon as another backfield target.
I think Mahomes can attack underneath with greater efficiency than most QBs partly because of the threat of the deep ball. His early career historic success going deep forces teams to respect that threat in ways other QBs don't benefit from. Even when not going deep, the threat is ever present.
Then why isn’t Josh Allen who also has a huge arm doing the same? It’s about Andy Reid scheming it up and Mahomes reading the defense faster than anyone else
Very nice production! I was fortunate enough to move to KC in 2010 and had to stomach some not-so-great Chiefs football before Patrick came on the scene. I first followed the NFL as a kid growing up in Minnesota watching Fran Tarkenton. I watched anything football that was on TV. In 2018 I told my wife that Patrick Mahomes was the best QB I'd ever seen and I'd watched them all since Johnny Unitas. He is so fortunate to be with Andy and a well-run organization. There are some other excellent QBs playing right now - Rogers, Allen, Burrow, Herbert, Hurst, and Lawrence. There may be still others soon. A great time to be a fan of the game regardless of how our favorite team is playing. Skol!
Talk about a family of athletes. Father pitched in the MLB, he’s the head and shoulders best Quarterback in the NFL, his brother’s a world class dancer. Etc
The scariest thing for the rest of the NFL is it's not like Mahomes can't or won't take the deep shot any more because he still loves to take them. But now he knows exactly when to take them and when not to based on what the defense does. Because he's become so efficient and is more than willing to simply take what the defense gives him he truly getting to the point where he does have the answer for anything and everything the defense can do to try to stop the Chiefs offense. Opposing defenses have to pick their own poison... Either get laid out by a haymaker, or die a death of a thousand cuts. What are you supposed to do to stop an offense that is equally as good at attacking you both deep and underneath, especially when you are up against a QB who will STILL beat you even when you call the perfect defense and still execute it at a very high level? What's going to happen when Mahomes has his mental game on par with Brady and Manning? He's still not there yet, but he's getting closer with every game he plays, and is a MUCH better athlete than Brady and Manning ever were.
@@KevonDaDonyeah it’s crazy how he quite literally might never get worse.. Of course as he gets older his athletic ability is gonna go down some but he’s just gonna keep getting smarter, scary for the league
Yep totally. It's not like Andy had 20 consecutive years coaching in the NFL without *ONE* SB win until Mahomes. He would of already won a SB with any of the teams that drafted ahead of the chiefs in 2017 except the phukin Jets because god himself couldn't do it at the helm either
Evolution is such a key word here. Mahomes went from semi project QB to goat status because he evolved quicker than I've personally ever watched a QB do so. As much as it pains me to say it as a Raven's fan who had to watch the AFC go through Brady for years, we're right back in the same boat. Except now, instead of having to keep eyes on Manning (in the Brady era), Burrow and Josh Allen are the dominant QBs right behind Mahomes.
This was a great spotlight. Reid and Mahomes might be the best coach/QB combo since Walsh and Montana. Personally I think these last two seasons with Mahomes' average depth of target dropping a bit, but still being the best in the business serves as a breath of fresh air for a contingent of NFL fans. I feel like ever since a few years ago when average depth of target and air yards metrics became available for public consumption, some folks have almost used that as a silver bullet to declare whether someone is good or bad at the QB spot, and the truth to me is that it just isn't that simple. I think I remember Jameis Winston leading the league in air yards one season. It really does come down to a melting pot of coaching staff, players, and the system that is being utilized.
Thanks TLD! Yeah, it's crazy to think that we got to see Reid and Mahomes paired up, I wonder what Pat would have been like with another coach. Great points in the rest of your comment brother
Mahomes's style is just to win, whatever it takes. He'll be a gunslinger like Favre, he'll be a check down guy like Alex Smith was, he'll be a crack any defense guy like Brady, he'll be a master scrambler like Rodgers. Whatever it takes.
You have to appreciate Mahomes' greatness. He makes difficult throws look routine and is a complete player. I do think the way to fluster him is to have a good pass rush and disrupt Reid's scheme but few teams can do that.
That's literally the only way to stop any great QB. Have a good pass rush and a coordinator that is able to give them coverages and blitzes they aren't expecting. Like you said, there are very few trams with that combination of pass rush and DC.
Lou Anarumo knew 4 man rushes wasn't enough especially in late passing downs for Mahomes. So in those situations he rushed 3 and used DE Sam Hubbard to drop back for coverage and QB spy to not let Mahomes leak out. Thing is even that option can be off the table when Reid is comfy going in condensed sets in those situations. Because it forces the defense to line up close with the Chiefs able to get their receiver matchups out there quick.
I feel like you was listening to a debate I had in the comment section and made a video on it. Efficiency is how you win at the quarterback (mostly). This video like all is very well done.
Thanks OD! What's funny is the argument about "ceiling" but if Brady was the GOAT and his physical abilities are what they are, how do we really define ceiling?
I'm not sure this is as much an evolution of the Chiefs' roster owing to the departure of Hill. It's just how their opponents have been playing them. They're still very capable deep. There is one game last year where the Chiefs' opponent did play a lot shallower over the middle, without so many 2 deep looks - the game against the 49ers. Mahomes promptly went off for 423 years, as the Chiefs hung 44 points on them. You can watch that episode of "Quarterback", Mahomes starts the game getting picked by a safety jumping a shallow route. He returns to the sideline offended by the fact someone would play against him like that, and goes for deep ball after deep ball for the rest of the game.
Pleasure to watch Mahomes, he is the best QB in the league and already a legend. Chiefs are that good cause of Big red play calls and Mahomes execution
Yes i agree. The league hasn't adjusted fully adjusted to defending the Chiefs post Cheetah. They got more Man coverage last year but teams were still playing alot of soft coverage making Pat play with patience. He's tightened that part of his game up. They're too good in the RZ too. Can't die a slow death vs them imo
@AlexRollinsNFL he's gonna get you no matter what. You're right. I would try the Saban Odd Mirror stuff vs him. Try to break the pocket with a 3 man rush and have an aggressive spy run him down. They proved last year that you can't play soft vs them and hope to hold them to 3. They're too good in the RZ
@@frankl3518That where Andy Reid, his crazy offensive mind is just gonna keep tweaking the offense and re-scheme when defenses get comfortable with the old scheme😂 Scary for the league
@@parkerknoche2709 No doubt. You can't keep doing one thing. I forgot to mention that. You certainly have to mix it up. Nobody makes Mahomes work post snap either. I'd change the looks. Show pressure and drop out. All that stuff. He's gonna burn you. But I hated seeing defenses bend last year and still break
I'm so grateful for Patrick Mahomes. I just wish we also had someone like him when we had Derrick Thomas. I can't remember the other guys name now. I think Smith. I'm horrible with names.
The reason for this is clearly in the 2021 season everyone just went back to a Tampa 2 against him, so he and Andy shifted what they did, because teams had adapted to understand what he was good at, he still has that deep ball in his game, but he just seems much more coverage against him, dude is the best I’ve ever seen, at any passing length, any
15 is different..he can be like Brees and be hyper efficient, or like Favre and throw 40yd bombs or just scramble his way out trouble..bottom line he will get you to a W (without deflating balls)..he’s HIM
I've been telling people that Mahomes developed his game from the big-bomb days. He is much more efficient, and much more deadly. He'll win 2-3 more rings due to this. While Josh Allen is still stuck on trying to prove he can be better than Mahomes.
I'm not saying josh allen is better than mahomes at all, but he does have a quicker release. Mahomes doesn't really have that quick of a release, it's just a very adaptable one that can come at any angle while moving in any direction
@@nicolasbernardini3413 Mahomes does have a quick release but it’s hindered by an average wind up speed. Then when he releases the ball, it’s traveling with so much velocity. Josh has a quick wind up and quick velocity. Compared with someone like Baker, who has a slow wind up and slightly above average velocity.
Hey Alex. How do you feel about a video dissecting Joe Barry? On whether or not GB was justified for keeping him despite alot of fans wanting to replace him for his over reliance on predictable soft zone calls.
The real test for Mahomes is going to be when the safeties come in to take the short and intermediate passes away can quickly adapt to going long. He has some speed in his current WR room. Not Tyeek speed but pretty good speed in MVS and Watson. They could be pretty good at football this year. On other topics I understand some members on the Washington football team are complaining that the new OC is really demanding. That is EB. Those guys might want to go some where else if they don't want to work.
2018 2019 Mahomes was bombing the hell out of it before the defense adjusted. If he has a receiver who can run, he won't have any problem throwing it downfield immediately. EB's style is not Andy Reid's style. Reid doesn't believe in yelling at grown men. Andy has very hard practices but doesn't scream.
It's so weird being a chief fan. I haven't seen a good qb since Joe Montana left the niners. And no rich Gannon, Trent green, and Alex Smith don't count. For so many years we were the one and done playoff kings. (Kinda like the cowboys now) then comes this guy. 🙌
Trent Green was a good QB. He isn't Mahomes, but he was borderline top 5 back then, definitely better than Brady from 02-05. Over that stretch, the offense was 1st, 1st, 2nd and 6th in scoring. From 2002-05, Green was 2nd to Manning in rating and yards. He was 3rd in wins, 4th in TDs, and 5th in INT%. He can't help that the defense was a hot mess those 4 years.
@tylersimmons6524 yeah with priest holmes breaking td records and Tony Gonzalez breaking yard reception records I remember. But every year we lost first game of the playoffs even when we got the bye lol. So heartbreaking
I almost wonder if the league will inevitably revert back to gambling and defending Mahomes more like they did in 2018 and '19, playing more man coverage and allowing him to take deep shots with greater frequency. It took him about a year to adjust, but it's become far too easy for Mahomes to execute double-digit play drives with fewer splash gains.
In college, I think Mahomes was coached to be a gunslinger. Tech's coach couldn't see beyond his potential and Tech has historically been a shootout style team. Reid saw Mahomes for what he is, a shortstop playing football. Everything about Mahomes plays into this. In baseball, he just wants to get the out. Throw from whatever angle you can, twist around, jump, lay out, just get the out. That's his football style too. Just complete the pass. Mahomes's only tendency is to move the ball forward as safely as possible. This means he won't have a style. You can try to clog the middle and he'll take the top off. You can go two deep and he'll pick you apart underneath. You can't blitz him as he's been great picking up on it. The best defense against him is consistent pressure from 3-4 down linemen and let coverage work, but that stops every QB in this league. Taking away Tyreek may have been the best thing for him. The Diva potential there from a guy not being fed the ball can hurt the offense. It really seemed like Mahomes was trying to force the ball to Hill to keep Hill's numbers up. Not having a primary WR threat means he can take the open man and everyone has their time to shine. Reid is a genius and makes it easier for Mahomes, but Mahomes is going through the reads and constantly making the right read. The lack of turnovers attest to this. That's hard to teach. Combine that with his escapability which is on par with Vick and Lamar and a cannon for an arm and you've found a unicorn. Reid is absolutely making the most of Mahomes, but the raw talent Mahomes has is on full display. Reid's had other great QBs, but they've never been this good.
The Chiefs fans should get together and send Todd Bowles a big fat Thank You card. He came up with the so-called blue print to stopping Mahomes in their Superbowl meeting and then other teams followed suit which in turn caused Mahomes and Andy to adjust their thinking and come up with a different gm plan. It wasn't because Tyreek left because teams were forcing Mahomes to go underneath when Hill was there but Mahomes was still young and being a little stubborn but he has Matured to a New Level now and he's only gonna get better as time goes on. Look out League Mahomes can Learn and he can Adjust so be careful what you put on film when trying to stop him.... Go Chiefs!!!!
He can still be more aggressive against quarter coverage. He had an outside post route open against the texans in the clip you showed but he settled for a checkdown.
As a Chiefs fan, this is bliss. I never actually thought we'd be the Patriots because of how wild we played on offense, but then the other teams' defenses turned into little bitches and now we just get guaranteed yards. We'll coast to more Superbowls if they keep this up
Alex, as a lifelong football fan, I want to ask your thoughts about the pendulum swing of how defenses adjust over the years. I have so many examples of two high and cover 4/cover 6 schemes that teams were using back in the late 80s and early 90s. Then people talk about how Randy Moss forced teams to play two high. Then we hear about the Tampa Two (which is a form of cover three with the MIKE deep, but it is still two high), and then we watched the 49ers Vic Fangio defense play a bunch of cover 5 (two high man under) + 1 Bracket (two high but double the split end), and even now we hear about defense changing to two high vs Mahomes. What gives? It seems and feels to me like two high never went anywhere, it just wasn't always "sexy" in the way the 2012 Seahawks "LoB" ran one high with Earl Thomas and while the Steelers went 1 high as they allowed the Tasmanian Devil roam wherever he wanted.
You are right that two high looks never really left. But how its employed in strategies has evolved based on the offenses. Even the 2005 Bears ran cover 2 but kept it simple: early downs it was vanilla cover 3 to be sound vs the run. Then on late passing downs it was tampa 2 and whatever small coverage adjustment was needed. Every Monte Kiffin disciple (the known godfather of this base) has had a different spin/application on this defensive concept from Caroll himself (and his own defensive coaches like Gus Bradley and Dan Quinn), Lovie Smith and even Mike Tomlin. The personnel for the trenches, MLB and safeties also dictate the consistency and adaptability of being able to stay in two safety looks. Because they do a lot more post snap shifting now where defenses will give you cover 1/3 then shift back into cover 2 if the QB wasn't paying attention/have their back turned. Now its more about zone stuff underneath like Fangio's concepts because of the prevalence and success of the wide zone offense and its ability to stress defenses horizontally and attack all 3 parts of the field.
Thanks for the great comment Paul. You make some great points per usual, I think we're at a really interesting time in football where it is clear the game should be shifting back towards the run, but RB are in a weird spot themselves nowadays. I could see the shift back to 1 high being based around the new running prototype QB where you're pretty much forcing the defense to play 1 high or they just dont have the dudes (like against the Eagles or Bears this year). QB is'uh changing
I always say that Patrick Mahomes has had a charmed career. I wonder how his career would look if he was thrown into the fire on a bad team like a normal team instead of being drafted on a playoff team with a offensive guru who didn't try to stuff him in a box. Would he still be Patrick Mahomes or Matthew stafford.
He would still be patrick mahomes. His career stats wouldn't have looked good early on but eventually he and the team he would be on would improve. It would look more similar to Josh allen.
Thanks my brother, appreciate your support every week. Dude he is insane frfr. There were sooo many plays i could have put in this episode that just didn't quite make it
How many years will people say "chifs don't have hill " he chose to leave the team he want to retire as a Dolphin , forgetting who made him Andy Ried made hill who he is today Love the praise you give Mahomes 🙌 he's best QB in NFL
Only problem with this analysis is he change how he plays in 2021 before Tyreek left. Remember they were losing alot in the beginning of the season. Once he started to play the shore game and take what the defense gave him, they made it to the AFC Championship game.
Something I find interesting is that defenses do not bump Travis Kelce and let him get free releases. In the 2018 AFC championship game Kelce went for just 3 catches, 23 yards and a td. A lot of this was because Belichick put Hightower on Kelce and Hightower put Kelce on his ass. Is it simply that a lot of defenses do not have bumper linebackers like Hightower anymore? Instead having smaller, faster linebackers who are not strong and big enough to take him out of plays.
Much has changed since 2018 and Kelce's role on the offense. Reid has been experimenting playing 12/13 personnel in condensed sets to setup Kelce for better looks and to force the defense to play closer together while giving the receivers an advantage in motion. But also in some plays with 3/1 receiver formations, Kelce will act as a blocker for a short bit then leak out to the middle of the field. The chemistry between the 2 is so good that Mahomes can buy time even if his initial reads are covered and knows when/where to get it if Kelce does get open like that.
when I watched quarterback on Netflix when he attempted a long pass on the 49ers with shallow safeties he quickly learned to play deep ball to beat those shallow safeties
all this video is telling you is that he is capable of playing over the top or underneath at an all time elite level but just simply takes what the defense dictates or gives him.
Defenses can’t and are terrified to blitz Mahomes. Now they just sit in coverage and hope they confuse him or he makes a mistake or that the d line gets some pressure. I think that is another factor that led to Pat changing his game. I bet if he were still seeing the blitzes he saw at the start of his career he would torch some big plays even without tyreek
The under 10 yard Patrick Mahomes is actually closer to what he did with Texas tech. The pass game is just a run game with a 4 yard head start for half the playbook
I'm really curious to see how well Mahomes will be w/out Bieniemy. I'd also be curious to see how he'd play w/out Andy Reid. I think that Mahomes' career has greatly benefitted from the schemes the Chiefs operate under.
Without Bienemy? You cannot be a Chiefs' fan if you are asking this. Mahomes is glad EB is gone. Mahomes. likes Nagy (see super bowl parade) I love Reid but Reid has benefitted from Mahomes.
@@markb3786 Im a Chiefs fans and I agree with the OP. EB held everyone accountable even QB1. To Pats credit he seems to accept coaching very well. EB's voice will be missed and there may be an affect.
Hey Simpleton!! Bieniemy HAD NOTHING to do with Mahomes since he was a RUNNINGBACK COACH who was promoted and sent in the plays Reid called. Also, Mahomes IS THE SYSTEM since NO COACH can SCHEME IMPROVISATIONAL plays when things breakdown. You notice KC wasn't going to any AFC Championships and Superbowls and was IRRELEVANT in the LEAGUE for 50 plus years and counting until Patrick Lavon Mahomes took over the snaps. The Chiefs were basically in WITNESS PROTECTION and a DOORMAT OF a FRANCHISE.
Mahomes' Madden Rating is incorrect at 99. It should be 110. EA Sports had to give Mahomes a lower rating than his true skill level, so that the other teams would have a decent chance to win. They didn't want the KC Chiefs to be unbeatable.
He’s emulating Brady. Hes even been talking about messaging Brady and picking Blaine gabberts brain on how Brady operates. He’s reaching his final stage soon which will be force to reckon with. Now I understand even more why the Bengals DC wants speed.Limit RAC and just plain make up speed … Chiefs would need to counter with contested catch guys
The bengals havent been able to stop kc’s RAC the 4 times they played each other. A fumble here or there is why the chiefs lost those games. That’s not changing this year either

Yeah, that really ate at him all off-season.
He was great at going underneath last year. What the Bengals did was drop 8 guys into coverage to slow down Mahomes progressions.
Mahomes got greedy in the championship game and was forcing it where he shouldnt have
@@SycoticForeverNeverAF Yeah but the Bengals drop 8 in a more intelligent way and their defense are incredibly more trained than other teams

*Fun fact:* Patrick Mahomes has never played in a road playoff game
I’d argue the Super Bowl loss to Tampa Bay, In Tampa Bay, should count
I would say the Philly superbowl counts as they wore white jerseys.
But the true question... how will this affect lebron's legacy
But yeah, any deeper throws, they want to take those away no matter what
I always get goosebumps at the end of all your videos. The way you end your videos is quite possibly the best ive seen.
The music the narration all of it.
It's perfect, I love the content, and that outro is chef's kiss.
Thank you! Glad you like it
Yes time has refined Patricks play for the better, keep in mind tho, attacking the underneath opens up the deep routes as well. Its a beautiful thing to witness. Go chiefs ❤️💛❤️💛
Also makes sense why they were throwing it short is because Kelce and Juju were the top 2 weapons and that’s their strength
You literally just summed up this entire video in a sentence, that's literally what the whole video is about.
Then why isn’t Josh Allen who also has a huge arm doing the same?
It’s about Andy Reid scheming it up and Mahomes reading the defense faster than anyone else
You're welcome. Literally.

Patrick Mahomes is him.
“Christian Harris, Christian Kirksey - no relation”😂
Skol!
You should have been here in the 70's and 80's. We were abysmal. At least with Trent Green and Alex Smith they were competitive.
Thank you! Football is the best sport there is hands down period.
Talk about a family of athletes. Father pitched in the MLB, he’s the head and shoulders best Quarterback in the NFL, his brother’s a world class dancer. Etc
Idk about world class. Jackson has zero class at all. 😂
😂
Another banger from Alex. I was waiting for this video all morning lol. Great stats, and great tape breakdown. You really are the goat bro.
Thank you my guy! Appreciate the love
Give it to bout year 10 or 11 he’ll be there with them mentally he’s already a football savant rn for somebody who’s been playing Qb 11 years
It's Andy Reid's offense.
Kinda reminds me of how teams used to make Jordan drive left and take jumpers…. And then he got really good at driving left and taking jumpers.
Really good video man. Great breakdown.
As always.... Fantastic video.
Thanks Ethan!
He is evolving mentally while he still has his physical tools. He is gonna be deadly for the next few years as his mental game continues to grow
Loved this breakdown, you have a new subscriber!!!
Thanks Stephon!
Great video!
Simply put, "adapt or die".
Exactly.
Mahomes's style is just to win, whatever it takes. He'll be a gunslinger like Favre, he'll be a check down guy like Alex Smith was, he'll be a crack any defense guy like Brady, he'll be a master scrambler like Rodgers. Whatever it takes.
Master scrambler Rodgers? Master improviser I think you mean
@@KevonDaDon Sure, I can live with that.
He is getting better every year like fuuuuuuuuuck he’s good
Dude he's so fucking good 😂
You have to appreciate Mahomes' greatness.
That’s every QB weakness pressure that’s why they have a top 2 offensive line in the league
@@tylersimmons6524 I think Mahomes struggles more with strong pass rushes more than others.
@@AlexRollinsNFL Good point!
Amazing video about pat's evolution . I'm trying to get into sports media and broadcast so I was wondering how do you obtain nfl and all 22 film?

Yes i agree. The league hasn't adjusted fully adjusted to defending the Chiefs post Cheetah. They got more Man coverage last year but teams were still playing alot of soft coverage making Pat play with patience. He's tightened that part of his game up. They're too good in the RZ too. Can't die a slow death vs them imo
Man is the way to go imo, but then he can just run around and stretch the play out, and if he breaks the pocket you're extra fucked

I'm so grateful for Patrick Mahomes. I just wish we also had someone like him when we had Derrick Thomas. I can't remember the other guys name now. I think Smith. I'm horrible with names.
The reason for this is clearly in the 2021 season everyone just went back to a Tampa 2 against him, so he and Andy shifted what they did, because teams had adapted to understand what he was good at, he still has that deep ball in his game, but he just seems much more coverage against him, dude is the best I’ve ever seen, at any passing length, any
I Love it when people consistently underestimate the CHIEFS LOL

Alex is trying to start wars with these titles.
Give me all the smoke
I've been telling people that Mahomes developed his game from the big-bomb days. He is much more efficient, and much more deadly. He'll win 2-3 more rings due to this. While Josh Allen is still stuck on trying to prove he can be better than Mahomes.
It always seemed like Mahomes had a quicker release than Josh Allen though, which helps in the underneath game.
@@JahNuhThunDeeTheOneAndOnly Chiefs fan but I’m gonna have to disagree. I think Josh has a slight faster release.
its because allen tries to shoot a bomb everytime?
I'm not saying josh allen is better than mahomes at all, but he does have a quicker release. Mahomes doesn't really have that quick of a release, it's just a very adaptable one that can come at any angle while moving in any direction
@@nicolasbernardini3413 Mahomes does have a quick release but it’s hindered by an average wind up speed. Then when he releases the ball, it’s traveling with so much velocity. Josh has a quick wind up and quick velocity. Compared with someone like Baker, who has a slow wind up and slightly above average velocity.
Great breakdown as always. Patrick is special
Hey Alex. How do you feel about a video dissecting Joe Barry? On whether or not GB was justified for keeping him despite alot of fans wanting to replace him for his over reliance on predictable soft zone calls.
Why do you want me to feel excruciating pain?
@@AlexRollinsNFL I swear that was never my intention! 🤣
This year he will be even more deadly with Ross, Rice and Moore.
The 🐐 drops another banger. Mahomes ability to dink and dunk has probably been his most underrated ability.
😂 You're too much bro
@@ChiefGore429 They only made the playoffs once in those 4 years because the defense was so bad.
He's the Goat plain and simple
I almost wonder if the league will inevitably revert back to gambling and defending Mahomes more like they did in 2018 and '19, playing more man coverage and allowing him to take deep shots with greater frequency. It took him about a year to adjust, but it's become far too easy for Mahomes to execute double-digit play drives with fewer splash gains.
The league always back around eventually. It could take 10 or 15 years, but it'll happen
Man, it truly sucks to be a Broncos fan.
Yes. Yes it does.
Like a true Battle Chi😤ef Patrick Mahomes leads the way 1st downs to Touchdowns 👊
Seeing the Chiefs get destroyed 31-9 was Beautiful!!!! Will never get old to me haha
Lol “even while getting stepped on by Orlando brown” 😂
Man am I glad he’s gone
He wasn't a great scheme fit, kind of even a weird fit for the Bengals spread

Glad to know the two Christians aren’t related 😂
This is the kind of hard hitting analysis I provide. You can say you learned something at least
Andy and Mcnabb did it for a lot of years with no big name WRs
He can still be more aggressive against quarter coverage. He had an outside post route open against the texans in the clip you showed but he settled for a checkdown.
As a Chiefs fan, this is bliss. I never actually thought we'd be the Patriots because of how wild we played on offense, but then the other teams' defenses turned into little bitches and now we just get guaranteed yards. We'll coast to more Superbowls if they keep this up
You acting like Mahomes is a god lmfao. Do you remember 31-9? 😂

Remember your video on how kelce was going to regress last year 😅😅😅😂😂😂😂
Alex, as a lifelong football fan, I want to ask your thoughts about the pendulum swing of how defenses adjust over the years.
There isn’t that many special safeties in league at this moment like them 2 were
You are right that two high looks never really left.
The Chiefs' playoff record was horrible before Mahomes. Even Reid was 1-4 with the Chiefs before Mahomes. Its Mahomes.
My guy is *BACK* w/ a banger. Mahomes so fucking good
Thanks my brother, appreciate your support every week. Dude he is insane frfr. There were sooo many plays i could have put in this episode that just didn't quite make it
How many years will people say "chifs don't have hill " he chose to leave the team he want to retire as a Dolphin , forgetting who made him Andy Ried made hill who he is today
Love the praise you give Mahomes 🙌 he's best QB in NFL
Only problem with this analysis is he change how he plays in 2021 before Tyreek left. Remember they were losing alot in the beginning of the season. Once he started to play the shore game and take what the defense gave him, they made it to the AFC Championship game.
This was outstanding insight..way better than QB School.
They can just play him off the line and motion him around if they do. But yeah, it could be done more
when I watched quarterback on Netflix when he attempted a long pass on the 49ers with shallow safeties he quickly learned to play deep ball to beat those shallow safeties
This is funny. Considering last season he led the league in both 20 and 40 plus yard receptions.
damnn declared him the goat with that last second
BOOM
Happy learned how to putt
all this video is telling you is that he is capable of playing over the top or underneath at an all time elite level but just simply takes what the defense dictates or gives him.
I.e. an all-time great QB.
That is what all-time greats do. They determine your weakness pre-snap and attack it, no matter where it may be.
Not even a chiefs fan but Mahomes a beast
Its like he's a smart qb or something
Didn't even watch the video. I knew he was an alien. No way a human could be that good at football
Patrick Mahomes is an alien!
- History Channel after midnight
He's who Shannon Sharpe thinks Aaron Rodgers is.
Also brady gave him advice for the Super Bowl imagine Brady giving mahomes all his knowledge/mentoring him…it’s a wrap leauge!!
Roll pat go get it😆🏈👈👍
Who you think he is? That's not the most important factor. The Mahomes factor is everything and he alone knows his worth. He's designed for greatness and a legendary reputation is in his stars. He only he can see 👀 it, that's why he's projecting his objective for his career as the best QB in the NFL. He 💯 has what it takes.
5:43 MAN Defense
This reminded me of blue lock when Isagi had to adapt to become a better athlete
And they did..Justyn Ross and Rashee Rice, both of them big and great contested catch guys..honestly I’ve never been so excited to see this offense play again,I can only imagine
Yea hes HIM!!!!! HIMOTHY HOMLES!!!
🔥🔥🔥
Brock Purdy is vilified for "attacking the short game" But Mahomes is heralded with praise LMAO. Not saying Brock is the next Brady but the narrative is completely wrong.
the difference is that purdy has debo and Aiyuk, mahomes had juju, then rashee rice, there’s a difference
