  • For most mothers, organizing any wedding is stressful enough. But what if you are also an Australian-born Royal Princess and expected to supervise complex Hindu traditions stretching back centuries?
As the first non-Balinese Royal bride, Princess Asri is also the buffer between her daughter-in-law to be and the rest of the Royal family, uncomfortable with the fact that the groom, Asri’s ‘Indo-Aussie son Max, is marrying a famous Indonesian actress, Happy Salma. And Happy’s Muslim family is none too happy about her marrying a Hindu, prince or not…
With unique access to this extraordinary Royal Wedding, the audience travels deep into the heart of the little-known world of Balinese Hinduism as it smacks up against the 21st-century cross-cultural religious divide. Enter into a world of pomp and ceremony, obligations, strictly defined roles, business interests, politics, and intrigue…

Starting from the way she wakes up in the morning what should she do to how her children must be raised. I can totally understand why the Prince want his family to live in Sydney rather than in Bali. As javaness myself adapting the modern lifestyle with the tradition just hard when jawa has not many rules and regulation. But Bali where it is known for their cultural tradition and rules regulation, the Princess are doing great. I bet the prince really support her all the way.

To think that I almost dislike it, because the western culture interests me more, just hurts me. This video reminds me how rich we are with cultures, languages, and how I should appreciate it more. Plus, going to Bali is expensive enough if you compare Rupiah and Dollar, this video gave me an experience that I could've paid if I travel there. Also, I feel like this could be a movie and make a fortune, but then again this story would be less recognizable. I learned so much from this video. Thank you so much! ❤

Converting just for the sake of love won't last, and no muslims want that. For the muslim women, she actually can lose faith in Islam. Murtad, which roughly means apostates in English, is actually different than the apostates that we actually understand. If she simply loses faith in Islam, then fine whatever, that is between God and her, but if she makes it political and threatens the religion, then that is what becomes the problem. The problem is not simply just the losing of faith, it's the act that threatens the religion like spreading misinformations about the religion.

Bali is in Indonesia. The Indonesian Constitution guarantees freedom of religion. A number of different religions are practiced in the country, and their collective influence on the country's political, economic and cultural life is significant. The government recognizes only six official religions (Islam, Protestantism, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism). In the 2010 Indonesian census, 87.18% of Indonesians identified themselves as Muslim (with Sunnis more than 99%, Shias 0.5%, Ahmadis 0.2%), 6.96% as Protestant, 2.91% as Catholic, 1.69% as Hindu, 0.72% as Buddhist, 0.05% as Confucianism, 0.13% other, and 0.38% unstated or not asked.
Indonesia does not recognize agnosticism or atheism, and blasphemy is illegal.

I guess for most Asians, it's the case. When you marry someone, you marry their family too. Therefore, marriage is thoroughly thought of, you don't simply settle down, you evaluate their family, to see if you are a fit to them as well as they are to you.
This is a relatively new concept for my American boyfriend, who finds it awesomely weird and wholesome at the same time, whenever we talk about marriage as he knows he has to prove his worth to my family as much as I would do so to his. Unfortunately, he came from a broken family and although he now lives with his father and stepmom's family (parents separated when he was 2), he still finds it difficult to be the connecting link between both his parents while I, on the other hand, have parents who have been married for 34 years.
Have my parents not argue before? Just like any other couple would do. But the fact that they built a solid foundation first before they got married made them stay and worked out their problems as they know their marriage involves not just them, but a plethora of other people in their nucleus and extended family. My point is, before they were married, they have evaluated if both of them would fit into each other's families.

I live in Bali and would like to explain a bitt on why they said she will lose her position in the family. Balinese bride goes to the groom family, that means all ceremonies and visiting temple only for your title, Tjokorda is a first name and also the title, from the warrior family. If the princess marry someone with the title that indicates from the warrior family then she can still pray and visit the temple of their family, bcs of the same status, if she marry someone of higher status then she can visit other temple but she most likely will be busy enough with her husband family temple, bcs in Bali higher status means more rules and traditions, her family will also have to show more respect to her and her husband family bcs of higher status, if she marries below her status than she cannot visit her old temple due to her lower status now (following her husband status).
Like if you visit balinese temple like Pura Besakih, you will see few courtyard of temple inside that being fence and you can read on the placards of the name and status that is allowed there.

What a beautiful documentary of a royal family, a long-term love story, a fight against and for tradition. Balinese people seem so down to earth and wonderful. I couldn't watch the English royal wedding. It felt pretentious and unnecessarily hyped to me, especially coming from a country that the British had colonized. This on the other hand, felt completely different. Also, can we all agree that princess Asri is absolutely perfect? Adapting to Balinese culture, not being super bitter and even helping the Balinese after the bombing- as a person and not as a princess? She even reminded us about the Balinese losses. What an incredible royal family, incredible love story and incredible culture!

The wedding family will give rice, foods, fruits, sugar, coffee powder (to be taken home for the helper's family) or even including traditional clothing as token of appreciation for their help and effort. Yes, there are so many different and unique ethnic groups in Indonesia and they are all special and beauty in their own way. I think the Balinese are the most unique and specail because they are Hindu and have preserved their Hindu traditions longer than any of the Islamic and Christian traditions of most of the other islands and ethnic groups. I have been to Bali about a dozen times and Bali like Hindu-majority India (which I have been too) is SOOO spiritual! It is so beautiful and magical! There's a harmony with nature too. The Balinese men wear a flower behind their ear after a temple visit to remind them of their ties to Mother Nature, etc. Lembok for example is just next to Bali but the atomosphere although it is nice and less touristy, doesn't have the unique spirituality of Bali. I'm not the only visitor to Bali that has said this and I definitely won't be the last. The Hindu Balinese are just so special!

Not really, that some places intolerant, I am a complete multiracial, multilingual, been living around the world since child alone and Yes, I am one of Princes of Sumatra, majority muslims, and I am bluntly open to everyone that I am no longer muslim already for years, my Father and whole family are okay with it.
Even I was a former muslim preacher in my teenage that's why I am also fluent in formal Arabic (aside Dutch and many other languages) as I studied the religion as early as child and was in the Middle East as well, most of time abroad I rarely met other Indonesian.
So bet you're reality based on your thoughts, as you have nothing of wisdom in you to enlighten them, as your life is just as small as theirs, shine out yourself with your knowledge and life experiences, that I am openly bluntly not into any religion in the middle of this muslim majority societies, and none of them dare to against me as everything they not knowing about, I have it all in me, how middle east and west has been fooling East the last centuries to be their servant. No more. Time to return to the truth.
Also about stupid present government they don't understand anything what they're into and none of them dare to against me either, I told them in private.

Mahameru or Great Meru is just one of evidence of Hindu. As Hindu wasn't religion as today but an Ancient region from Indonesia all the way to Europe. As India the significant remaining.
I am not surprised in Bali 2012 I had a bizarre experience meeting one of my Ancestors from another realm, out of common people logic spiritual understanding. As surrounding of Bali's 4 mountains, is Gate 7 of Earth's Chakra 7th which is Mount Kailash Tibet.
Called Hindia, Indus, Indo (also Indo Europe and Indo Persia), even Indonesia means Indo Nesos, Indo Islands, exactly on center of Equator line. Richest nature on entire world, resourceful both on and in the ground.
Most humid yet stable weather all year around, alway sunrise at 6 AM to sunset 6 PM.
Sumatra itself means Sumer/Summer/Sun/Gold and Tera/Terre/Earth/Land = Mother of Sumeria.
The highest humidity and with so many volcanoes than anywhere in the world made the things decaying easily, even worldwide still don't know about our oldest ancient civilization before the massive eruption of Toba 74000 years ago resulted today world's larget crater lake, volcanic Toba lake with width around 100 kilometers. As our Ancestors were even much more advanced than us today and flee towards today Europe, Middle East, America escaped the eruption larger than Yellowstone USA.
      #Indonesia
;) Jesus/Isa, Muhammad, even Abraham/Ibrahim never lived around the world alone since child, they don't even speak world languages ;) I am an #Aquarius (Sun + Moon + Pallas).
#Indonesia #religion #islam #christianity #judaism #israel #ksa #saudiarabia #vatican all of them are just of very poor nature of middle east and west.
Religion = region rely on their legion and legislation. Yes very poor nature regions, the system to fool and conquer the world and no more! Enough of lies! #Truth #Indonesia #RealRich

It's pretty common of Westerners to not really understand the culture of Asia, especially Indonesia since it has way too many cultures to even memorize. We just have to keep an open mind, be patient, and educate them about our culture.

This is SO Beautiful. As a Hindu Indian from the states, I was just mesmerized by this absolutely beautiful Indonesian Hindu wedding with royal traditions. It's amazing to see the influence of ancient hindu, buddhist traditions. The grace and acceptance that they showed in embracing their Balinese culture while also being mixed race is splendid-kuddos to mom and dad for raising them well and also keeping them grounded. Much love!
