This was his final appearance on SNL and it was a good one. Probably one of the if not the funniest actor. rip Chris Farley a true legend
oh dear, I did'nt knew this would be tragic than I thought 😔😔😔
Didn't know this was his final show but that makes sense. He's a little extra nervous with his delivery compared to the other Foley bits.
I didn’t discover the genius of Chris Farley until a couple weeks ago watching ‘Coneheads’. There is a nagging preoccupation that questions,,did he deliberately take himself out. What happens after one reaches their pinnacle of fame,,,
@@Nortongroove Jon Belushi may have imploded on purpose, there's debate on that to this day. Having the number one movie, TV show and album all at once really got to him.
With Chris, it really did feel like he wanted to live. Just as someone watching avidly at the time anyways.
You can see it. Wow that's sad. He doesn't sound or look healthy. I wasn't laughing I felt concerned. One of the greatest
He may have looked and sounded so messed up from drug addiction but he still gave it 100%. Gotta respect the late Chris Farley
yea his voice was really hoarse
Don't keep giving props to people who are fucked out of their brain and still "giving it 100%" -- Farley overacted here and added unfunny ad-libs, to the point where the sketch was a mess, and didn't come off well at all.
Just because he's dead doesn't mean he didn't fuck up. He fucked up a LOT and this was one of those times.... oh, and every single time he pushed drugs into his unhealthy body.

I love Chris and I saw a comment here that he was “phoning it in” in this sketch. Farley never ever phoned it in. He was literally dying here. Dude couldn’t breathe. But he’s giving it 100%.
He almost died in this sketch actually. Check out 3:50 when he's drinking the coffee. :(
@@cammy85 No... he didn't almost die in this sketch. Geez.
He could breathe fine. Did you ever see the video of him on letterman running while carrying a man out of the bldg and doing several cartwheels across the stage?
@@markevan1 yes I saw that. He was athletic and on tons of drugs. Regardless, he wouldn’t have even attempted to do that at this stage of his career. The fact is, you can’t indulge in so much food and drugs without serious health consequences, and that’s evident in this sketch, and in the fact that he died a few months later.
@@markevan1 That Letterman appearance was a year and half before this episode.
Farley's weight/physical/mental health declined rapidly during the last year of life.
I believe he died 6-7 weeks after this bit.
I never noticed how much Chris was heaving and gasping for breath until watching this again. The guy lived his life like his comedy. Extreme. Great laughs at great expense. RIP Chris.
He had less than two months to live at this performance.

Chis Farley as Matt Foley in the original sketch ( Hartmann, Spade, Applegate) is timeless!
Don't forget it's pat, Julia sweeney
Why is everyone so morbid in the comments? Chris Farley is a legend! Can we just admire and appreciate his comedic genius and honor his life with praise without remembering all the bad that he suffered. His story is tragic indeed but I choose to focus on how funny he was and how he put his all into his characters.
That's right!
WELL SAID ERICA-------------------by the way this means nothing about this but last night facebook deleted me and i have no reason why.
Welcome to the internet.
Yeah but he was visibly struggling here, and it was actually sad. This skit wasn't funny.
Hard to ignore when he’s fucking struggling to survive this skit. Literally struggling to breathe.🤷🏾♂️
Tim Meadows comes so close to nearly losing it, several times. I love it.
It wouldn't be a Chris Farley sketch if a cast member didn't crack up.
Farley’s yelling was the best.

Cause of one thing that Matt likes!
IT'S HONG KONG PHOOEY!

For now on I will call hot asian women HONG KONG PHOOEY!
Bob Odenkirk (Better call Saul) created Matt Foley for Chris Farley. The sketch he did with Phil Hartman, Christina Applegate and David Spade is arguably the greatest SNL sketch of all time. Incredibly sad he died at 33.
Wrong. Matt Foley was a character Chris came up with himself. He used to do the character in Chicago with Second City. In the documentary it even mentions "he had a character he wanted to do on SNL.... He had done it in Chicago...." Bob Odenkirk may have wrote the SCRIPT for that episode but Matt Foley was Chris's own creation. In the documentary we actually meet the REAL Matt Foley who is a Catholic Priest who Chris knew and Chris named the character after.
@@shaniadirstein3650 The character's concept was first created by Bob Odenkirk.[2] Farley debuted the character during his tenure in The Second City comedy troupe prior to his joining the cast of Saturday Night Live That's straight out of wikipedia. YOU'RE WRONG...not me.

A true master of physical comedy. RIP Chris Farley.
Farley's seemingly endless supply of manic energy has just about run out here. He's breathless and clearly unwell. Poor fella.

His last sketch before his death..😢😢
Neither is true, his final sketch was on All That with Kenan Thompson as a chef that uses ketchup on everything. I remember watching it when it originally aired and thinking Chris looked absolutely terrible. I was only 10 years old. I wasn't shocked when he died, just sad. Years later I found out he showed up at Nickelodeon Studios Orlando with a prostitute around each arm and they nearly called the whole thing off, but in the end decided to film the scene.
@@TRJ2241987 That was a funny sketch though. Even if watching him eat ketchup on chocolate was unnerving.
@@TRJ2241987 I was going to say "When was that filmed?" I know El Nino was his last SNL sketch, but that Nickelodeon one with Kenan was probably done sometime that year. Thought that was earlier in 1997 though.
It's interesting, Google lists that as January 1997. I swore up and down that was October 1997. Maybe I had seen it as a re-run while he was still alive. If so, I was wrong, and the El Nino sketch would be his final. But you often see the All That appearance listed as his final TV appearance, so i'm a bit confused. I've lived my life for a long time thinking that Chris Farley's last on screen TV appearance was the one with Kenan Thompson.

I noticed something the very night I saw this live in '97. Go to around 3:58 when he tries to take a second sip out of the coffee pitcher; see how he stops, grabs toward his chest and says, "Whoa whoa.." I'm fairly certain his heart was talking to him, unimpressed by being on live TV. It almost happened right there.
Good observation. That may have definitely been the case. He definitely wasn't in good health at this point. For me, it's hard to watch this particular skit. Although he was overweight, he always had a lot of energy and was pretty athletic for his size. But here he seems miserable.
I’m pretty sure it was his mic getting wrecked from the coffee spilling through his shirt into it. I imagine he was like “whoa whoa” once he realized that and they cut and came in and either moved the mic and or got him a new one.

Hard to believe this would be the final time we’d get to see Chris Farley as his iconic Matt Foley character….actually, considering how much his health has sadly deteriorated by looking at this sketch, it’s not hard to believe.
Compared to how he was in his first sketch as Matt, his voice got hoarse, he was so out of breath, and he looked very out of shape. The substance abuse really took a toll on him. And yet, he still gave it his all and he was still funny as hell. I miss that talented man.
