Stormbringer was a mythical sword that brought death. It orginated from a series of books in the 1960's.

I respect Grand Magus, they did a very successful cover. But this song has a 70's feel to it so it's original version is better. My vote is for Deep Purple.

If you want the heaviest version of this song listen to stormbringer live in Paris 1975 (Deep Purple). That was Ritchie Blackmore’s last concert in Deep Purple he left the same night. Fantastic version

I love both bands but Purple is a top 3 band of mine and their 1974 album has a special place in my Heart. Great video!

That was a run down memory lane. I was at the Deep Purple Sunbury ‘75 concert in Australia, and saw that show. It was a mud-bath. Good job.

It looked like everybody had a great time, despite the inclement weather. Must have been an awesome Deep Purple concert, too! - Anamaria

Rainbow mistreated or stargazer is a must with Ronnie James Dio on vocals Blackmore and cozy Powell on drums

That is a really nice cover! A bit surprised I must admit. I know GM quite well and like their style (check out their album "Iron Will" - it owns), but this one has somehow managed to sneak below my radar. And I didn't expect it to be such an appealing version. So, much as I like the original, the GM contribution gets my vote...
Thanks guys! Now I have another cool track to add to one or another of my Spotify playlists.

Very close... but for me as well the tie breaker was Ritchie Blackmore's guitar flow 🎸❤🤟

The Grand Magus cover was so good it was almost blasphemous to the Holy Deepest Purple. That said, the nostalgic child in me would be biased for the version that brought me up - that of the holiest of the Trinities.

It's a decent cover and I like the addition of the keyboard solo, as Deep Purple would do on live versions. That said, there's no competing with Ritchie Blackmore when it comes to expression and I much prefer Coverdale's more distinctive vocals. Also, I find the modern production less clear and dynamic than the original. A win for Purple.

Ritchie Blackmore is GOD of GUITAR! Grand Magus has some absolutely amazing music. "Kingslayer" was my introductory song to them & I then dug into their catalog... Wow, what a treat! Definitely check out their self-titled first album. Songs like "Brotherhood of Sleep" and my personal favorite "Coat of Arms" will blow you away! They have that 70's feel but with the down-tuned guitars into the iconic Peavey 5150 amplifier that were such a defining sound of Swedish heavy metal... just GREAT stuff!

@Metal Academix: This versus stuff is interesting - yet; I would like to see something similar where we as the public can see the progression through time; what made Metallica good, then bad, then good again; through bass player alone? Under the influence of Bob Rock, and the lack there of, or otherwise ... How about the influence of Felix Pappalardi? From Mountain - Mississippi Queen, through Cream - I Feel Free and Sunshine of my Love, all the way to how Mountain is still audible in several Deep Purple tracks.

How can u beat deep purple?😂
    Coverdale,Glenn,Blackmore,lord and ian paice😂😂
No disrespect btw.coverdale singing with so much power and distortion and his forward placement is just amazing.the band who cover this song did good job,aa for the singer the way he sing is more like modern rock singer cover his mouth and didn't have the flare or the soul of bluesy like coverdale has.so its much more plain in my opinion.
