Love Deep Purple. Saw them way back in the 70's. Richie Blackmore's guitar playing was awesome. One of my favourite live albums is Made in Japan a double live album recorded during their first tour of Japan in August 1972.

The reason why Ian not imitating the guitar riff on 12.38 is because it's from their track Burn, sung by David Coverdale, that was the new singer when ian left the band due to problems.
Speed King is one of their earlier tracks, Speed king is from 1970 and Battle Rages On from 1993.

Loved Deep Purple since the early 70's but sadly never got to see them live. Kinda sad that they aren't as well known today as I assumed they were but I'm 62 this year so many of my assumptions are wrong! The best thing is to see that another generation is still appreciating their musical skills and loving what they see so thanks for spreading the word. There's a wealth of Rock, Hard Rock and Heavy Metal (coz that was the only Metal genre then!) bands from the 70's - Sabbath, Deep Purple, Hawkwind, Motorhead, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Free, Bad Company, Zappa, Rolling Stones, Zeppelin to name a few. I'd imagine the biggest difference between audiences then and now is that, back then, everyone was watching and listening and dancing to the band from start to finish. Without having to film it badly, tweet it or post it anywhere! Classic Purple tracks would have to include Black Night and one of THE great Rock riffs in Smoke On The Water or the very extended guitar solos in Child In Time.

Back in the days when rock bands wrote their albums at the recording studio. (they all have their own studios now probably) It always surprises me when reactors are seeing these classic rock bands for the first time, that they don't know anything about them. Then I realise how old I am. (57) I grew up when all these bands where appearing regularly in the mainstream charts. Great reaction, thanks Cheezy. ❤✌🤘

Deep Purple were such a big part of our soundtrack then, it's hard to imagine metal fans who've never heard them. They were doing this before the term "heavy metal" was used for this sort of music. Ritchie Blackmore essentially invented the metal shred solo, with his epic solo in "Highway Star". Today's shredders are much faster, but at the time, he was completely groundbreaking. And Ian Gillan, along with Dio and Bruce Dickinson, invented metal vocals. I was lucky enough to see them twice at their height. Serious hearing loss ensued.

His soft tones just hits home with me. You should react to "Sometimes I feel like screamin´" live at Royal Albert Hall. That shows Morse at his absolute best.

I only saw Deep Purple LIVE twice, consecutive nights, Oct '68
opening for Cream on their farewell tour, Inglewood, Ca (The Forum).
Very impressed with Ian Paice & Jon Lord.
Richie, not so much at the time, but as he is an inspiration for Miyako,
I am grateful for his contributions.
The Deep Purple portion of the first show is on u2b.
OK audio. Video 'better than nothing'.
Lots of 'cover songs' at that show. Their originals are much better, imo.
"Mandrake Root" caught my ear ...
"In Rock" was the album that 'convinced me' of the band.

I can barely see what line up you're reacting to, but it looks like a modern version without Ritchie Blackmore. I don't know who told you to react to this one. But with older bands like this, always choose either the studio version or a live version from the time the track was released. You only really get sense of the power and uniqueness of their music at this period this way.
I can't bear to watch them when they're old, and missing most of their key original members.

First song is 1996 with Steve Morse, as Michael writes.
Second is from Richie's last tour with the band in 1993.
Speed King, written in '69, studio recording in January '70.
That's 26 years later, but only difference at that time
appears to be Morse instead of Blackmore, surprisingly.

I’m sorry but Steve Morse can never be compared to the great Ritchie Blackmore, never ! Deep purple is a band that’s defined by 5 individuals, Blackmore Ian gillan glover and lord and no one else , all the other members were just substitutes to Cary on.

Actually Gillan and Glover were substitutes too.
They replaced Nicky Simper and Rod Evans and Deep Purple turned into somethinh better - just as when Blackmore left and Deep Purple first had Joe Satriani and then Steve Morse and turned into something better.
