Dueling doesn't give you that damage bonus in Longswords because they're "Versatile." The best you can do for a single longsword is Defence because that will always apply.
Going "Great Weapon Master" is actually the best choice in this case (imo) because that also applies to attacks made with versatile weapons that are wielded with two hands (even though the description only mentions two-handed weapons). Geralt doesn't even have to toggle the "risky" tradeoff on in order to benefit from the passive (if you kill an enemy or crit, you can make an additional weapon attack as a bonus action). But I would not disagree that Defence also makes perfect sense.
@@dantestormwind340you cant have another weapon in your off-hand, having a shield equipped does not interfere with the dueling +2 bonus (doesnt count as a weapon). and yes, it also works if ur using a versatile weapon and a shield. i only know this because paladins start with a versatile weapon and a shield, and the +2 was definitely applied for me
Eldritch Knight makes more sense. Also Geralt is more of a dex fighter so using finesse longswords like Phalar Aluve just fits better than strength. For the signs: Igni - Burning hands Aard - Thunderwave Quen - Shield Axii - Charm Yrden - Hold person
No, he’s a strength fighter given he uses a straight sword. Just because he’s evasive doesn’t change how he attacks is all about strength. A game like DnD just doesn’t have a way to accurately represent that. I think.
@@midgetydeath As someone who actually trains with a blade like the one Geralt uses, weapons like that are definitely are not primarily strength based, though that might of course change when fighting non-humanoids
8 lvs of eldritch knight 4 lvs of hunter STR and DEX 16 CON 14 INT and WIS 10 Above mentioned spells but several can be used for Axii I think this is as good as a witcher build someone can get
Geralt is clearly a type of ranger (there's even a subclass in 5e called Monster Slayer which is literally just a witcher, but it's not in BG3 so hunter will have to do). I know some people think Rune Knight is meant to be a witcher, but the origins of the class have more to do with carving runes into your weapons and armour than actual spellcasting (which Geralt can do). Pick fighter as your first class and take it to level 2 for action surge, then multiclass into ranger and pick hunter once you hit ranger 3. Pick whichever type of 'prey' you think suits Geralt's specialism best. Don't mess around with warlock, it doesn't fit Geralt at all.
@@nanashi4147definitely ranger. He’s famous for his sword but he’s used too many weapons and other equipments to subdue or distract monsters, and he has a hefty penchant for collecting herbs from nature. Thus, ranger. Just without a bow
You can carve runes into weapons in Witcher 3, it was part of the DLC, so he's unofficially,)an Eldritch Knight. Also lore wise, the Witchers took said magics from, you guessed it, Warlocks and Witches. The magic of Witchers being leagues weaker than mages. They're essentially weak mages with the best sword skills in the known world.
Wouldn't geralt's background be better as folk hero? He has a bard singing about his adventures and it would give him animal handling, he loves his horses
Notably, Dueling does not work with Versatile weapons like the Longsword. You would have to pair this with a shield to make sure of the effect. Defense may better reflect Geralt's combat flexibility.
I had a witcher playtrough, but more a themed build then trying to recreate Geralt. So it was poison dragonborn for poison resistances, cuz witchers are resistant to such stuff. Then 6 fighter with battle master and 2h wep, 2 warlock and 4 sorcerer. This way you have igni as burning hands, quen as shield, axii as command, aard as thunder wave. Also relied on elixirs and poisons. It was solo run, but still worked pretty well on tactician.
Geralt is the smartest Witcher, and has too much knowledge about every single monsters and all the world’s creatures. Memorised and everything. He also fights very smart. Not mindless brute strength. He moves fast and fights smart. High intelligence, and unreal resiliency. His health should be very high
Some tips; Make a High elf and you get fire bolt as a race ability. This handles Igni. If you MUST make Geralt, stick to human, however, lore wise, he's more of a mutant than he is a man. With that said, the racial trait of seeing in the dark, also adds to to the Witcher lore, so High elf just makes the most sense. Movement, igni, seeing in the dark, proficient in multiple weapons etc. Poison gas could be taken as a replacement for the use of applied oils in Witcher 3.
Would instead have gone with a DEX based fighter and using those Finesse-Longswords as well as more Leatherbased armor. I think that resembles Geralt more than a STR based one
Which Finesse-Longswords are you referring to? Shortswords or Rapiers? Otherwise it would take a 1 level dip into Monk to get "Dextrous Attacks" on all proficient weapons...

Also, Duelling fighting style does not work with longswords (or any versatile weapon) as it require the weapon to be 1-handed and have no weapon in the offhand, and the longsword is 2-handed when not using an offhand. Duelling also specifically says it does not effect versatile weapons, like the longsword. I'd recommend Defensive instead, as it will make more attacks miss and Geralt is quite keen on dodging.
Don't use bladeward, use shield instead which EK gets as soon as you take the subclass. Aside from being an actually very useful and powerful spell, it actually looks exactly how book Quen is described.
Wow I just started playing BG3 last night and said "I wonder if I can make a Witcher." I'm so glad I came across this video. I'll be making a Witcher character tonight!
Personally I would replace four of the levels from Warlock with four levels in Ranger. Pick the poison resistance option and the favoured enemy option that gives protection against good and evil. Then take Hunter's Mark (because he is still a hunter) and goodberry to act as a sort of healing potion. Lastly, pick the Hunter subclass. Any option at level 3 works.
Alternative concept: Ranger / Eldritch Knight multiclass. Start Ranger if you want DEX proficiency, Fighter if you want CON (for concentration checks). You can go DEX if you're gonna use finesse longswords like Phalar Aluve or Larethian's Wrath, which has Razor Gale, a whirlwind-type weapon skill. Both are in Act 1 (Underdark and Crèche respectively). Prioritise STR if you want more athleticism or take Outlander background. Ranger (Hunter): Defence fighting style for Ranger (don't take Dueling, doesn't work with two-handed use of Longsword). Keeper of the Veil, since he basically fights aliens. Bounty Hunter fits well too, if you prefer. Can interpret Ensnaring Strike as Yrden. Take both if you decide to go for 6+ levels in Ranger. Longstrider for the extra movement, Goodberries (Food regen) and Hunter's Mark. Hunter Subclass with Giant Killer or Colossus Slayer (your preference). Fighter (Eldritch Knight): Great Weapon Fighting style. Only need level-1 EK spells so 4 levels of Fighter is sufficient (8 is recommended). Get Thunderwave (Aard), Shield (Quen), Burning Hands (Igni). Optionally take Magic Initiate: Cleric feat and get Command (Axii). Take True Strike cantrip ONLY if you get War Magic (lvl 7 EK passive). Could go with 2 levels of Transmutation Wizard, for Geralt's alchemical potion-brewing aspect. Or go 8 / 4 lvls for 2 extra Feats. Could go 8R / 4F, but I'd recommend 8F / 4R. Start with Ranger or Fighter to lvl 5 if you want Extra Attack asap. Possible Feats: - Alert - Athlete - Great Weapon Master - Magic Initiate: Cleric for Command (and Thaumaturgy) - Mobile - Resilient (CON) for Concentration checks
I recommend using the Phalar Aluve Longsword. It's a finesse weapon so it uses dexterity instead of strength. I think it fits Geralt's fighting style from the games better than a regular strength weapons

Idk, I am torn on 2 Fighter/1 Ranger then 4 more Fighter and 5 Warlock. It would be nice to get 1 more level of Ranger in but it simply doesn't work as you really need those 6 levels in fighter. Geralt is way tougher to build than one would think simply because he is an expert outdoors tracker, but he's also one of the greatest swordsmen in the world. having weapon specialization would really help, but in all of WotC's incredible wisdom that was deemed *_"Too complicated for mass appeal"_* and tossed which, in my opinion, is absurd. People may be proficient in many martial weapons and a particular fighting style with those weapons, but there is a *HUGE* difference between a duelist with a short sword, a scimitar, a Mace or a bloody long sword or rapier. IMO they really should bring back specialization, as it would make the build so much easier. Still, you work with what you have, and overall I think it's fine either way. I'd personally go Ranger...maybe even do that first since he was probably trained in scouting, herbs, tracking and animals well before he ever picked up a real sword. Then, after seeing his martial prowess and ridiculous constitution/ability to tolerate potions/poisons his training switched to _"See this 42" blade? Yeah, well you are going to become a master with it in one hand kiddo. Don't worry, you can use two for heavier strikes, but with your agility and strength you will be moving so much you may need the other hand for balance as you jump and spin in a 180 degree rotating backflip as your sword spins through any enemies unfortunate enough to be in it's arc. Then you land and continue fighting. Shouldn't be a problem for you Wolf."_ Of course based on TW3 it was more spinning pirouettes and such than the occasional flip along with far more spellcasting. Gheesh, I was using Aard every 30 seconds in half of my fights...or igni...or Yrden...whichever I was in the habit of using the most based on wtv boss I'd recently fought compared to the books where it was pretty uncommon. I love eldritch blast as Aard as in the books Aard hurt since it was blowing everything, not just the person. Getting hit with Aard might also mean getting hit in the face with a 35lbs fallen tree branch to the noggin so the fact that it causes damage and may not always be knocking people off ledges doesn't bother me all that much. Decent job making it resemble Geralt as well. As much as creating a character is fun, and this is far better than most *Western CRPG* Avatar creators, it is far, far from the sliders we come to expect in high budget Action RPG's. At the same time, Cyberpunk has sliders and good luck with that if you are making a guy's face. Lol, women? They come out hot as heck. Guys? I don't know what the deal is but I could not get it right. I did better with ME: Andromeda, and far better with Mass Effect *1's* character creator. 2 and 3 I could nail just about anyone's face minus the hairstyles. Man, slider for BG3 would have been *INCREDIBLE* if the kept all the preset builds as a minor tweak here and there is all that is usually needed for a near perfect match to what I'm going for (though they missed on the hairstyles and beards kinda screwing people who wanted short/shaved hair on the sides and short/normal length hair on the top. No biggie though, overall it is still very good. Now if they would just raise the damn level cap! Sorry, completely OT rant, but I hit level 12 at the end of Act 2 and literally spent my last 100+ hours of game time at max level, accumulating over 147K XP. Yes the story is the most important part, but so is progression. My only choice was really going worm crazy which I chose not embrace bc of some changes it forces on your teeth. Yep, the teeth were the deal breaker for me, never mind fully, fully embracing them. I never made it that far as I quit with Wyrmway, the House of Hope and my final regular boss who happened to be Orin for me bc I just couldn't deal with not progressing my character, at all, for over 100 fricken hours. Imagine that at a D&D table? _"Yeah, you've done a year's worth of adventuring, total XP is 147.9K but you can't level up bc now...umm...AO has capped humanoid progression at level 12 now. Sorry."_ Isc if people over-level the content. If it is there and they choose to do it then you have to reward them for it. Even if they had to complete nerf spell casting and just give more 1-6 level slots, skills and feats. A game designer should *KNOW* that if the content is there, a lot of people will do as much of it as they can, especially once they have a handle on what is going on and the real timeline. The game has officially sold over 12M copies, with 9.7M on Steam and 2.4M on GoG along with who knows how many on PS5, but I am sure it is quite a lot as well. Even if only 1% of those people do what I did and have a 250+ hour playthrough, that's 120K people who obviously loved the game who got boned. I know a ton of creators who didn't finish bc they hit the level cap at the end of Act 2/early in Act 3 and were _"aggro'd"_ to the point of starting a new playthrough where they would intnetionally skip the things they didn't like as much as others specifically so they would not cap so early because...after about 35 hours or so it does start to wear on you. Yes, I know there are mods that let you multi-class to 20, but they disable all the achievements and without official mod support they are pretty difficult for people who are not used to complicated modding to get working. I can't get half my Cyberpunk mods to work, I highly doubt I would bo any better with BG3. Man I miss console commands and .ini editing. The XP tables for levels 13 through 20 are in the game too. Really frustrating. Anyway, it's still the best game I've played since DragonAge: Origins. TW3 didn't quite make it _for me,_ but I didn't play TW3 until I was in my late 30's/early 40's back in 2019 and my life was in a totally different place back then. Had I played it in 2007 when DA:O came out I might have a completely different view. Either way, we are talking about the difference between a 9.6 and a 9.7 (if I were rating them) so it's not like they are in a different league altogether. Well actually they are, except they are in it together, along with a few other classics like BG 1/2/ToB, Planscape: Torment, KotOR and the entire ME series which I consider one big game as the narrative just flowed so well between games while the gameplay stayed close enough for me to lump them together. So yeah, they definitely sit in a class above pretty much every other PC game I have ever played, and I have not played a game so much in such a short period of time since the Original Pool of Radiance came out when I was like 10 or 11. Man what a game. Now we have Phantom Liberty coming out so I can finally see what Cyberpunk 2077 ended up becoming. I already had a great experience with the initial release, so who knows, maybe we will have two classics in the same year. Craziness indeed.

Shouldn't be a problem for you Wolf."_
Of course based on TW3 it was more spinning pirouettes and such than the occasional flip along with far more spellcasting.
Geralt is secretly a bard class what with all his rumpy pumpy
only deviations I made was cos I wanted a ciri build and google only shows me creation for ciri not build styles I opted for
great weapon and no cross bow since I never really used cross bow in the game unless it was absolutely mandatory
Stop speaking so fast trying to understand lol
Bro what is up with the starts. 17,13,13,10,10,13 do you know how many points your are wasting? It should be even numbers to have bonus from them. If you even don't know that rule of DND why you make videos?
:)
This was fun. TW: Warhammer builds next. Lokhir Felhart number one.
why tf are you speedrunning the creation?
bg3 besides character creation did nothing that the witcher3 didnt do 10 years go.
