Thanks for the great coverage of one of 2024's best new series. Btw what happened to Blair? Last thing I know she had the gun pointed at the two Jason’s. Then all of a sudden Evil Jason had her phone & got the location of her car. Daniela didn’t even ask about her.
I think the fact that Jason so clearly was in tuned with and respectful of what Charlie and Daniela were going through, giving them space, overall putting their needs above his own needs and desire, that’s what separates him from the others. From my limited understanding of it, if you think of it in terms of quantum mechanics, like, the wave function represents the possible paths someone takes, and every choice he made is what led him back to Daniela, thusly every other Jason is the Jason that made a wrong choice, and subsequently branches off those wrong choice paths…there may be infinite Jasons, but there’s only one perfect path, one true Jason. Also, the last shot when they step out and close the door before the corridor appears….the Psi symbol, that little trident shape, it’s on his backpack…and Charlie’s too. Also, Entanglement refers to two being/acting as one, regardless of distance…Jason Prime and Daniela & Charlie Prime are Entangled. Regarding the Max thing, I’m sure he’s gotta tell her at some point at least to prepare them for the possibility of an encounter. I enjoyed the epilogue, I thought it was a good way to wrap things up. Sure, certain things I would have wanted to see, but I felt it was done excellently. Seeing that shot of Leighton injecting the Fairy in his hand and that grin. It literally made me smile, and I watched that whole sequence a couple times. Good call on the last last shot, the corridor appearing because there are no observers. I like the idea of the Dessens being Multiverse travelers for a bit. Yeah, their home world got blowed up, so to speak, but in a way, Jason gets to have the woman of his dreams, the family AND also do the sci-fi shit he dreamed of when he thought up the Box in the first place. Cool show. Excited to see what Crouch does next.
Fantastic comment. I do wish I had a better understanding of the physics involved in this show as I would appreciate the subtle symbolism more as you were able to. I know entanglement is a buzzword in quantum physics so I like that it was the crux of the show and the main point of why our OG Jason was the one picked over all of the other Jasons. Thank you again for the comment. These are exactly the types of commentary we love to see on our videos or in our discord. If Blake decides to continue on, we will be back for Season 2.
@@Bingetowntv Honestly, my understanding is just that of a layman. I didn’t even know that the little trident symbol had anything to do with anything until very recently. I put on a video one time about the Schrödinger Equation because I was like, ok, let’s see what this thing is about….I barely got through any of the video when I realized I was out of my depth regarding the math. I barely remember how to perform long division by hand anymore. But the one thing that stuck with me, was the little trident symbol. So when I noticed it for the first time in episode 7, it was because I had only just learned what the hell it even was probably the week before or so.
Kyle with the pipes!! Sing it boiii! haha Man what a treat to journey the series alongside you 3! I live in Dallas, but if I'm ever in Philly I'll give yall a shout! I want to point out a major difference in the show vs book regarding Jason2 and his character arc at the end. In the show, we see Jason2 kill the version of Jason that is on top of OGJ while in the house. And then he puts down the gun and helps them escape to the box with the extra ampoules, voice memo, etc. In the book, J2 and OGJ have a stand off and OGJ ends up killing J2 in the house in a self defense manner. I really do like how they wrote (Blake wrote let's be honest) Jason2's redemption story (RedemptionJ as yall poetically coined him lol). In the end instead of being just pissed off at him for causing all this chaos and havoc and literally stealing another person's life, I really felt for him and his remorse he displayed taking ownership and fault for his actions. When he was tied up in duct tape back in the OG house by ScarJ and ScarJ asks him "what were you thinking?" and RedemptionJ says "I really thought you were going to love my life." Man that really hit me because it truly wasn't like he was trying to just eff everything up for purely selfish reasons, but almost in a weird twisted altruistic way, knowing that it was himself he was trading lives with and that deep down they both had the same level of "What if?" lingering in their subconsciousness and this was his way of letting OGJ live out that alternate version of the dream he killed many years before. HOWEVER, a single (or dating because of Amanda?), middle-aged millionaire scientist is never going to know the depths of love and care of building a 20yr marriage, a teenage son, death of a child, etc. So that's where he got it all wrong to start with. But regardless, I loved how it was kind of protagonist (OGJ) vs antagonist (Jason2) the whole series, and then in the last 30 minutes of the finale our antagonist ends up turning and helping the protagonist..win? and how I'm totally cool with that and am not mad one bit. Oh and last thing I found to the question "How does Ryan know Amanda?" Blake said on his Reddit AMA "He does not know her. Our Ryan never knew the Amanda (Amanda3) of his world. He's looking for her because she came out of the Box after him... thats about how far I can take it for now." So basically 1) Definitely a hint at Season 2 and 2) My guess is that Ryan somehow saw Amanda come out of the box into that progressive Chicago. Buttt that would mean he saw Jason come out too because they came together...? Or Ryan saw Amanda and Jason walking around? Idk haha All in all a solid 9.5 like yall said. Gonna be a rewatch for me for sure. Keep up the good work fellas and if there's a Season 2 you know I'll be back for a listen✌
(Obligatory boooooo Cowboys aside) we appreciate the hell out of you and your book commentary on past episodes. I think because Blake decided to change the POV moments from the show to include more of the OG world, the change to giving Evil J a "redemption" makes a lot more sense than if he did it in the book where you spend 0 time with that version of Jason but that is a MAJOR deviation that we didn't know about. Spending roughly 30-40% of the show with him allows us to at the very least understand how he realistically arrived at the mental state in which he could steal someone's life. It's satisfying to know that a book reader that loved the book was completely ok with that ending change. As show watchers only, I think we were all more than happy with how his character arc ended. I still haven't read through the AMA yet but I will soon. I love that answer he gives because knowing how calculated Ryan is, it makes total sense that he would have put a camera on the box in case anyone came through. I can look past the Jason thing if it can be explained that he couldn't find Jason in time before he left. Thanks again brother for the genuine, thoughtful interactions this season. These are the reasons we love podcasting!
She kind of does test him. She only says “I choose you” after he admits that he was tempted to stay in another universe. She says and yet you chose to come home and then says I choose you.
@@realbosstakea She has been getting begged by dozens of Jason1s to pick them for days now. And she’s telling this Jason1 that she chooses him and not any of them “bozo” 🙄 In fact she tells him this right after getting off the chat room of… Jason1s and telling them she made her choice.
they prob took blairs car cuz ep 8 all the jasons was crashing into their car, and they had to get a car from someone that jason didnt think of so maybe they called blair up to use her whip
I think you discussed the possibility that the family might have ended up returning to Amanda's world at the end. But if the choice of the world was made by Charlie, wasn't the rule established that you could only go to a world where you already existed? If I'm understanding that right, wouldn't that mean they could only go to a world where Jason and Danielle were together and had lived the same life up to the point where Charlie was conceived? That could definitely lead to awkwardness and problems. Or did I just misunderstand that "rule"?
That is a curious caption. My only argument for a 3rd Leighton would be the popular fan theory that there is a (presumed) Leighton that can be seen in the background of the Amanda Jason dancing scenes
they were in charlies friends rich house, only place that was safe cuz other jasons didnt have access to charlies thoughts only jasons, so they knew wherever jason would take the family, so they let charlie pick a house to stay at which was safe - and the person they was tallking about was their dead brother/sister from a misscarrage
I think evil J and Blair killed scar Jo and then evil J promised to make it right and keep the family safe if she let him track the car and get to them
That's possible but then it makes the scene with them escaping their hideout and running over a Jason that looked like he had a scar and same clothes as Scar J seem weirdly edited
Loved this show, but there are couple questions: • Do the left over Jasons have viles so they can leave this reality? • What happens when the dead bodies are found?
1. They should not have any spare leftovers and since Ryan no longer exists in this universe, they are stranded 2. Absolute CHAOS (that I kind of want to see)
@@Bingetowntv Seems like at least some of the Jasons wouldn't have been down to their final dose making it back to their world....and yeah, when the multiple versions of the same guy are discovered, I bet they'd get a sweet reality show deal on TLC
Thanks for your great coverage of "Dark Matter"--your style of coverage (and length of each review) is the Best. My Overall feeling about the Series: I loved the acting by Joel & Jennifer--this is definitely Jennifer's Career Best. And, I really loved the first 7 episodes. As for the finale, it ONLY works for me if you combine the last two episodes as one. But, unlike you guys, I felt there was a LOT missing; or, better put, there was a lot that the Viewer had to "bring" to the ending to make it work. The writing did NOT provide it for us. The most obvious is the "missing scene" of how Blair & Evil Jason worked together. It's so pivotal that Evil Jason helps Jason1 Prime, Daniela, and Charlie--and to NOT explain/see how he got freed is unacceptable. Also, there needed to be a scene (as Luke suggests) between all the Jasons--with them deciding they should let Daniela & Charlie go with Jason1 Prime. Missed opportunities. Plus, the "epilogue" scenes of Amanda meeting Ryan, Blair going back into the Box, and Party Leighton, continuing to move forward through the Box...were all weak & "tacked-on" and sloppy. Bottom line: As Jim says several times in your video [para-phasing] "I kept waiting for the climax" and "I kept wondering HOW are they going to pull this off." The "journey" of episodes 1-7 was much, much better than the "conclusion" episodes #8, #9. IMO, they did not "nail the landing." P.S.--In the epilogue scene between Amanda & Ryan...it takes place in Seattle: you can see the "Seattle Needle" out the window.
I have always known of Jennifer Connelly but I am a full on Stan after this performance. I'm not sure this show would have had the impact it did for me without Joel and Jennifer crushing their scenes. You are not wrong about viewers having to fill in the gaps for some weirdly edited scenes, with the Blair/Evil J one you mentioned sticking out majorly. I (Luke) will admit to the recency bias of overlooking some of these writing misses since we watched and then recorded in a short period of time but I don't think these missteps took too much enjoyment away from the finale for me. I will say we weren't too pleased with the OG Ryan and Evil Amanda dialogue as the scene could have made more sense without the weird Ryan line. The good news for you is that there seems to be building momentum towards a Season 2 so if that's the case, some of the problems you pointed out could be fleshed out a bit.
@@Bingetowntv Here is a season 2 theory I just totally made up! I'm personally against a season 2 since this wrapped up so well and is kind of a perfect gem. No need to ruin it! However, here is a possible (as in totally made up with no evidence) explanation for OG Ryan's comment to Amanda: Amanda finds the ampules that Jason1 left in her purse. At some point she becomes curious about the nature of the drug and has it chemically analyzed at a lab. The analysis gets stored in a public or semi-public database that Ryan eventually accesses as he is trying to re-synthesize the drug. So Ryan1 in his research finds that his drug has already been cataloged. He recognizes it because he had just done a similar chemical analysis in his world before Jason2 dumped him into the utopia universe. So he goes on a quest to find the person who submitted the drug for analysis. Eventually he tracks her down in Seattle.
She said that was her plan but does that make sense that Ryan was able to find her there? And why would he have been specifically seeking her out? While I love the cookie crumb Blake gave us with that scene, we were struggling hard to figure out the meaning of the dialogue.
@@Bingetowntv I only made mention of it because on the pod you guys made it sound as if Amanda was looking for the original one when the reason she went there was because the other Amanda left
I really enjoyed the show unfortunately I’m very unhappy with ending… too many times good shows have fairytale endings. I was hoping for something like we were watching the wrong jason prime the whole time or something we all couldn’t comprehend because we’re not supposed to understand the fifth dimension. Idk 🤷🏽♂️ All in all, I guess it was a great show because it’s the first time they tapped into this type of story time, but I just wanted more. If they do do a second season, I hope they explain some more of the science of the box and their understanding of the fifth dimension 🚛🫡
To play devil's advocate for the happy ending comment, 99% of the Jasons from this universe have an incredibly depressing ending which is something to consider if you are going to say fairytale ending. While yes, OG Jason ended in the best way possible, not acknowledging all the chaos and sadness for pretty much every other characters ending takes away from the nuance of the show's finale
@@Bingetowntv first of all thanks for the reply Love the channel You’re right that it’s definitely not happy for all those jason’s stuck in the universe ….. but it’s really hard for me to accept , that all those jason’s accept that their life’s are in significant. And willingly allowed them to go into the box And them all accepting that they’re never gonna see again. Because they’re not the real jason prime.
I think Evil Jason is a liar or Deluded himself. HE didn’t even love his life. Why would our Jason love it? I don’t think they really showed us that Jason 1 ever spent any time wondering what if. This was a great show but I don’t think all Of these Jasons make sense. Why would each universe spawn a new Version? There was already a Jason in each of those Universes. But, still a Satisfying ending to a good show. Enjoyed your podcast so much too.
Thank you for the kind words on the podcast! I agree with the Evil J take but since everyone is the main character of their own story, it seemed to be the only realistic way the author could get us to empathize with him even just a tiny bit knowing that in his own convoluted way that he THOUGHT he was doing something good for both Jasons. As for the multiple Jasons spawning, my understanding was every time Jason1 made a decision in the box, it spawned more Jasons but that seems to be getting into a diction discussion. I'm chalking that part of the plot up to soft-Sci-Fi that doesn't have an exact physics answer
Sad to hear it but landing a Sci-Fi show as unique as this is always tough to hit with everyone. Anything specific you disliked about the final two eps?
Absolutely an amazing show.. lived up to my hype/expectations and even surpassed them! This discourse y’all had is exactly what I would’ve had had I not read the book, but yall did a great job covering this 🫡
hahah I am adding "glizzie guzzling" to my vocabulary. What specifically about the pacing bothered you? Did you feel the solution was too simple or not simple enough with all the problems they are going to leave behind in the OG world? We're genuinely interested in the critiques that we didn't mention. Speaking for myself (Luke), well-thought out Sci-Fi shows are insanely difficult to write without creating meteor-sized plot holes that take enjoyment away from the show. While there are naturally going to be some minor plot holes when doing a limited series on quantum physics, I felt this story was very thought out. Landing a season finale in this genre that pleases everyone is nearly impossible but this one stands out as the least problematic for the shows I've consumed over the last few years.

Idk haha
All in all a solid 9.5 like yall said.
Don’t forget about Foundation on Apple TV
I am still not convinced this is the original Jason. There is that Florida thing..., and what about Kankakee? No youtuber mentiones that!
She kind of does test him.
She only says “I choose you” after he admits that he was tempted to stay in another universe. She says and yet you chose to come home and then says I choose you.
@@kalmenbarkin5708 that’s true there were definitely a few subtle tests in the finale that OG Jason passes!

And she’s telling this Jason1 that she chooses him and not any of them “bozo” 🙄
In fact she tells him this right after getting off the chat room of… Jason1s and telling them she made her choice.
they prob took blairs car cuz ep 8 all the jasons was crashing into their car, and they had to get a car from someone that jason didnt think of so maybe they called blair up to use her whip
Great point !!!
The AD closed caption said that was Leighton 3. Did we see 3 of them before? If not, why introduce a 3 now
Theres only 2 leightons, 1 that worked at the box place, and 2 who lived as a rich guy who inherrited his grandpops money
That is a curious caption. My only argument for a 3rd Leighton would be the popular fan theory that there is a (presumed) Leighton that can be seen in the background of the Amanda Jason dancing scenes
@@Bingetowntv amanda jason dancing scene? what ep?
BREAKING NEWS: Dark Matter has just been renewed for a 2d Season!!!!!
Thank you, Appletv
OK... I might have lapsed... Whose house are they in?? Who's the girl Charlie and Jason were talking about when thru got there? Sorry 😬👴🏼
they were in charlies friends rich house, only place that was safe cuz other jasons didnt have access to charlies thoughts only jasons, so they knew wherever jason would take the family, so they let charlie pick a house to stay at which was safe - and the person they was tallking about was their dead brother/sister from a misscarrage
Bite your tongue on leaving it as it is…..I think one more would be amazing
@@roller6855 😂😂😂 we’re always down for more content but we just thought it was perfect as is !
@@Bingetowntvya I just realized after re-watching that was likely him shooting at them. My bad lol
Loved this show, but there are couple questions:
• Do the left over Jasons have viles so they can leave this reality?
• What happens when the dead bodies are found?
1. They should not have any spare leftovers and since Ryan no longer exists in this universe, they are stranded
W ending
Bottom line: As Jim says several times in your video [para-phasing] "I kept waiting for the climax" and "I kept wondering HOW are they going to pull this off."
The "journey" of episodes 1-7 was much, much better than the "conclusion" episodes #8, #9. IMO, they did not "nail the landing."
P.S.--In the epilogue scene between Amanda & Ryan...it takes place in Seattle: you can see the "Seattle Needle" out the window.
@@Bingetowntv Cool. Thanks for the reply. I'll probably be back when Silo returns. Again: love your format.
@@Bingetowntv Here is a season 2 theory I just totally made up! I'm personally against a season 2 since this wrapped up so well and is kind of a perfect gem. No need to ruin it! However, here is a possible (as in totally made up with no evidence) explanation for OG Ryan's comment to Amanda:
Amanda finds the ampules that Jason1 left in her purse.
Amanda went to Seattle because that was where Amanda had moved away from there. Seattle is a new country
She said that was her plan but does that make sense that Ryan was able to find her there? And why would he have been specifically seeking her out? While I love the cookie crumb Blake gave us with that scene, we were struggling hard to figure out the meaning of the dialogue.
@@Bingetowntv I only made mention of it because on the pod you guys made it sound as if Amanda was looking for the original one when the reason she went there was because the other Amanda left
wasnt ryan left in chicago thats crazy he went all the way to seatlle to track her down?
I really enjoyed the show unfortunately I’m very unhappy with ending… too many times good shows have fairytale endings. I was hoping for something like we were watching the wrong jason prime the whole time or something we all couldn’t comprehend because we’re not supposed to understand the fifth dimension. Idk 🤷🏽♂️
All in all, I guess it was a great show because it’s the first time they tapped into this type of story time, but I just wanted more.
If they do do a second season, I hope they explain some more of the science of the box and their understanding of the fifth dimension
🚛🫡
To play devil's advocate for the happy ending comment, 99% of the Jasons from this universe have an incredibly depressing ending which is something to consider if you are going to say fairytale ending. While yes, OG Jason ended in the best way possible, not acknowledging all the chaos and sadness for pretty much every other characters ending takes away from the nuance of the show's finale
@@Bingetowntv first of all thanks for the reply
Love the channel
You’re right that it’s definitely not happy for all those jason’s stuck in the universe ….. but it’s really hard for me to accept , that all those jason’s accept that their life’s are in significant.
And willingly allowed them to go into the box And them all accepting that they’re never gonna see again. Because they’re not the real jason prime.
I think Evil Jason is a liar or
Deluded himself. HE didn’t even love his life. Why would our Jason love it? I don’t think they really showed us that Jason 1 ever spent any time wondering what if. This was a great show but I don’t think all
Of these Jasons make sense. Why would each universe spawn a new Version? There was already a Jason in each of those Universes. But, still a
Satisfying ending to a good show.
This show tricked me into thinking it was a decent show until it got to the final two episodes.
Sad to hear it but landing a Sci-Fi show as unique as this is always tough to hit with everyone. Anything specific you disliked about the final two eps?
Absolutely an amazing show.. lived up to my hype/expectations and even surpassed them! This discourse y’all had is exactly what I would’ve had had I not read the book, but yall did a great job covering this 🫡
Thank you King Ginger!!!!! These words do not go unappreciated
You guys have stop with the glizzie guzzling. The finale was trash.Pacing was terrible. Could not stick the landing. Lazy
hahah I am adding "glizzie guzzling" to my vocabulary.
@@Bingetowntv only thing i think they dragged out the happy parts at the house, real jason would be thinking nonstop trying to solve the issue not drinking wine and dancing drinking coffee all relaxed and shit lol half the episode was them being happy at the house
