Fan Bing Bing is breathtakingly beautiful. She can act and as the envoy states in this she might be of royal blood but god blessed her with everything else. I had no idea such a great film as this was even on RUclips so thank you. I had just finished watching Empress of China which was also phenomenal. The costumes the plot is exemplary. So much betrayal by everyone. A harem was not a good place to be it most certainly wasn't for the poor girls and women sent there. As beautiful as she was she would still be passed over for someone new. Consort Wu saw the emperors interest spiked in her so set out to make her sons wife.
Everything about this movie are truly extraordinary. Costumes, settings, act. China should be v proud. Very high class and v good quality in his own way.
Such sad betrayals, sad sacrifices, but the costumes were beautiful, and the beauty of Yuhuan is just wow our of this world. I truly enjoed watching this movie ❤
every element that a good movie must have was in this, absolutely loved it. Although the ending was sad but it just deepens my interest in the ancient China. Living a life like Yuhuan is a nightmare.

I loved this movie and have seen this and other versions many times..but this is my favorite version... I wish I'd known the year the Bishop visited His Royal Highness Playboy... loved the costume and although I got lost a few times but it's because I'm multitasking.... The Emperor's last wedding scene was quite exquisite with costumes and bright colors. I can only imagine the richness of China at the time and if only they knew that we existed on the other side of the globe with our many nooks and crannies... Now what was Consort Mei's role in all these.. At first I thought she was finally marrying the Emperor in his last wedding but then realized that it was Yujuan (wife of Prince Mao) marrying the Emperor and somehow now Consort Mei was standing next to Prince Mao). Did that make any sense at all??? Not to me, but then I watch because of the beautiful costumes....
OMG, this lead actress may well be the prettiest woman in the world, even a tad prettier than Bai Lu, Ni Hong Jie, and Zhang Jing Yi. And that’s saying something!

While the cinematography was beautiful, I did not like the movie. Perhaps it was too short to go into characters motives. Based on what was shown, I didn't see true love between the Emperor and Yang Guifei. I felt sorry for Prince Mao.
