  • Part 8 of my video series about fencing with the symbol of the renaissance - the rapier, according to the teachings of Salvator Fabris and other masters.
    Fencing with a solo rapier is great fun but when you add a sidearm the fun immediatelly doubles. Without any doubt the most popular sidearm in combination with the rapier is the dagger. If there is another one that should totally deserve our attention, it’s definitely the cape. It’s not only super fun to fight with but it’s the only sidearm that will make you super-fabulous.
    Rapier: Kvetun Armoury Ring-hilt rapier, Regenyei standard rapier and Pavel Moc Rapier prototype
    Blade: 107-110cm (42-43.3")
    Weight: 2.6lbs
    Music: Mozart - Horn Concerto No.4: Rondo: Allegro vivace
    Sweet - Fox on the Run
    I do not own the music - it's used for non-commercial educational purposes with the accordance with the fair-use policy.

    Great vid. Disarms with cloaks are great too - if you void as you envelop their thrust with the cloak and pass forward inside their guard there are all sorts of mischiefs you can accomplish.

    I enjoy to practice your "Learn Rapier" videos. Can you please make a Rapier & Dagger instruction video. There is a lack of rapier&dagger instruction on RUclips.
    Thank you very much for your understanding and for all your videos.

    Hello Martin Fabian
    I really really like your videos. You explain the techniques/principles in such an easy and understanding manner it is wonderful!
    I have a question: Would you say that the same rules you introduced to us in this video would apply to an sidesword with cape? Except the Rapier stuff of course. Do you have any experience with sidesword and cape?

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  3 года назад +1

      Hi! Thank you very much for your kind words. I'd say yes, totally, it's almost the same. In fact the difference between rapiers and sifeswords is not that huge and there is quite an overlap in the category :) So feel free to use the same principles.

    Did you tried to hang a cape on a branch and to make some thrusts with a sharp rapier? I have some doubts.

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  3 года назад

      hey,
      ad1 we don't fight with sharp rapiers nowadays
      ad2 that kind of test isn't very reliable because the cape moves and should be held a bit sideways. that influences the reception of the incoming thrusts. sure it's possible to pierce a piece of thick cloth but it's not paper nor a fixed obstruction :)

    • @MartinFabian
      @MartinFabian  6 лет назад +1

      javier Horna Moreno I would suggest starting with Giganti. Giganti is really straightforward and easy to understand. There's a neat translation/book called the Venetian rapier by Tom Leoni.
