    Watching your videos makes me strangely emotional. Your tone of voice, sense of humor, and just the calm way you go about talking about OCD makes me really wish this channel had been around when I was a young teenager, when I didn't know I had OCD. I thought I was crazy for so long. I am in my 20s now and know that I have OCD and this knowledge helps, but I still feel like I lost a chunk of my life due to OCD and watching these videos just makes me so grateful. I feel like when things get bad again, I have a resource. So thank you for making these videos because they help, a LOT.

    Your vídeos actually helped me a lot. I'm 16 and i always had intrusive thoughts, but only recently i realised it was OCD and your videos helped me understand it and fight it. Now, whenever my ocd tries to act i imagine it like an ugly worm saying my intrusive thoughts in a very weird and funny voice. And whenever my ocd tries to make me doubt myself (like making me think that i'll hurt others) i think "well okay. Let it be then" and the bad things don't happen. Everytime the bad things don't happen, my ocd becomes a uglier, crustier and more pathetic worm, and life goes on.

It starts a whole new issue of worry (IE: OCD days you think you want to hurt people, so you say "yeah, maybe I do." You feel relief from that thought, but, now you're worried that THATS how you really feel??? This is a horrible rabbit hole!

    The thing I've noticed though, is that I'm perfectly fine with agreeing with my OCD voices saying I'm a bad person. If OCD comes to attack anything about me as a person directly, I can say: "Bring it on bro!" But I think it knows it can't get me with that anymore, so it has now switched to attacking the things and people I care about most... A bit more of a difficult problem to tackle.

      Harm ocd is my thing. And I promise you, it may feel different than your other ocd issue you had, but the mechanism is still the same. It’s not anymore real or harmful than your other obsessions. It’s scary bc it’s abhorrent to thought that you could possibly hurt anyone you love. But. It’s just noise. Like a toddler speaking gibberish, you gotta just agree w it and move on. The thought only means something to you bc it’s attacking what you love. But, still, it’s just noise. You choose to decide whether or not the noise has meaning. You can sit and try to figure out the babbling child or you can just accept it and carry on according to your values.

    I am not gonna lie, this advice here helped me more than everything i have ever tried. An example could be such for people with ocd about contamination: “yeah, mr brain, that is indeed an extremely horrific and scary contamination i will catch if i don’t wash my hands, i will probably die because of this or suffer forever”. a week do that and you will feel much better, then your brain will automatically not be scared of intrusive thoughts, and no fear = no thoughts.
    ps: applicable to every kind of ocd i believe

    I struggle because I do believe most of my OCD thoughts. It isn't so much that they are even untrue. They are just given undo intensity and blocking out other perspectives.

    I think as I have magical thinking it ruins this motion of saying the opposite and accepting the thoughts as in doing so it means I'm okay with the fear or that it will come true. 😔

      SW. I know what you mean...I struggle with this too. But if you remember it is a way of neutralizing the fear so that you will start to naturally return to your positive self anyway...because you've cleared the ground to be able to do that. Also I think it's ok, once we've got some ground with the neutralizing of the fears, to gently build in some positives....but most of all it's best done without that sense of urgency :)

    So basically what he is trying to say is to face the anxiety, let it suck you up, and hunt you until the brain gets used to them that it will get bored. Is that about right.

    Hi. Idk if you'll read this or not. It's been a while since you posted this video. But I just wanted to say thank you for the information that you give.
    My ocd has decided to focus on a trip I have coming up. And im learning that just because it doesn't "appear" as relationship ocd as I have experienced previously, it's still *OCD*. And I need to approach it as such.

    My problem is that it will go from fighting me to complimenting me. You can't insult someone and then pretend that you didn't insult them. So my OCD does that. Whenever I try to stop arguing, it will become emotional and start "trauma dumping". I sometimes get relief when I silence my thoughts. Because it's competing with me, I guess, so maybe when I go silent, it does too.

    • @thecastleoftruestblue9665
      @thecastleoftruestblue9665 Год назад

      Yep, I've had experience with the complementing thing too. Although, it's the opposite for me, I can't stand silence as of now. I need either an audiobook or music, otherwise the statement loops go wild. They are oddly silent when I listen to audiobooks. And sometimes, if I notice a description that relates to my OCD and the thoughts pop up again. I'll say: "Remember that description, that's you. Oh and this is boring me, you've stated it a million times." Just a way to cope with humour I guess, lol.
