Yep. Pretty sure I definitely have this and have always had this. You’ve mentioned a number of ones I hadn’t even known counted. The floaters and all that. I’ve looked this up because I have chronic pain and allergies. I wasn’t sure if my chronic post nasal drip was nasalmpolys or what. I’ve had this going on for years. I did have chronic sinusitis. I do feel the post nasal drip and I also thought I had eustachian tube dysfunction. I saw an ENT last week. I do have eustacian tube dysfunction but he says no nasal polyps and no TMJ despite the cracking. That the cracking is just how I’m built and how my jaw is. I’m in awe of the post nasal drip he says is just allergies. I kept telling him but what about this house I have to do to Force the mucous down? He continued to say it’s my anxiety. He asked a lot of direct questions I’ve never had a doctor who wasn’t a psych ask. On one hand I guess it’s good other docs are taking psychological issues into account but still. He also stuck his fingers in my mouth with no gloves and I froze up but still exclaimed “you didn’t put any gloves on!” This story bothers anyone without OCD I tell. The breathing one. I have had this and it’s very interesting because I am a Buddhist and mediate daily! This whole breathing OCD thing is like a manic ebb and flow. I’m beginning to question if my panic disorder which I had relieved for almost a year is back now, not due necessarily to agoraphobia -yes I went on a googling rampage now that I am taking meds again I’m not certain I have agoraphobia that bad, at least not as severe as family members! It is possibly more linked to this ocd you’ve explained as well as specific trauma in the past. This type of OCD is maddening to say the least. Do you have or can you make one on obsessive decluttering disorder as well? Thanks for your videos!
For those dealing with this form of ocd please know you can get over it! Speaking from experience, it does go away if you do the right things. I had it for many months and it was practically constant, but by changing my mindset it eventually disappeared. Please don’t lose hope, you absolutely can overcome this!
@@Studies.8697 my friend you must relax. Take some deep breaths, do something wholesome and enjoyable and that will divert your attention. Don’t let this rule your life, as it evidently is right now. I promise you can overcome this. I did, many others do I’m sure. It’ll pass. I didn’t really overcome it with the help of a doctor, but you may find a doctor will help you, so you should consider seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist. I think one of the most important things in overcoming this is changing your perspective on its harmfulness or discomfort. These are lies told to you by your ocd. It is not at all threatening. It is a mild annoyance. It is really not that bad, and you absolutely can live with this comfortably for however much longer you’ll have it. Change your mindset. Do this in addition to permitting yourself to indulge in distraction and wholesome activities, enjoyable hobbies and mentally demanding activities. Just try redirect the focus of your thought, and otherwise live normally as much as possible. I think this is a good way to slowly but surely chip away at the ocd. The focus on breathing (or whatever you have) will eventually disappear, and in the meantime be a whole lot more bearable. Please relax my friend, don’t let it ruin your life. Be strong, I’m here if you would like to talk more. But please also don’t feed your ocd’s constant and indefatigable desire for reassurance. If satisfied, it is many times only so momentarily. Like I said, perhaps try see a psychologist. You can absolutely overcome this, remember that.
@@elizavalerio1396 Best way to overcome it is by acknowledging that you are breathing and noticing it and accepting it. Whilst, realising it is just a normal part of life and is nothing that you should be worried about. If that doesn’t work try just to relax do something you enjoy like listening to music or talking to friends. Hope this helps 😁

I am going through the same but I have tried exposure techniques and they really help, currently on my way to challenge it. You should also try exposing yourself, accept your OCD and breathe anyway you like because it's fine to do it, I know doing so triggers anxiety but it's fine because it will get better from here only. It's your body you can breathe in anyway you want. Good luck fellow mate.

You're not alone guys, I'm suffering from this right now. It's been about 4 months now and I'm just learning about what it is. For me it's breathing, I couldn't take the subway, drive, or even take cab rides because I would get so much anxiety and it would put me into a full blown panic attack. I've been to the ER twice, spent thousands on medical tests that all came back negative. Doctors see my results and laugh at me for being so on edge. Yet they have no clue how much of a torture this came be. I'm going to try to lean into it, confront it, and overcome it. Will post back to inform progress once I make some, wish me luck :) And hang in there brothers and sisters, we'll beat this, and we'll be stronger for it.
@@tosabendoagora4474 Yes it did, although this video didn't exactly help me at all lol. Here's what really helped me: 1. Find a safe space first, or a safe person. For me it was my bedroom. This should be a space that is easier for you to relax in, you can always return to this space if you feel overwhelmed. 2. Sleep earlier, and wake up earlier. I lived in China and sought out traditional Chinese medicine when western doctors were no help. The Chinese doctor forced me to get on this sleeping schedule, and things immediately got better for me. I would go to sleep between 9:30PM and 10:30PM, and wake up somewhere around 6AM - 7AM. 3. Make sure you NEVER miss breakfast, lunch, or dinner. low blood sugar is no joke, while it may not seem like it, eating before going about my day helped my anxiety by A LOT. I used to never eat breakfast, but now I do. 4. Exposure does help. I was unable to ride the subway or taxies at first, but after I got myself on a good sleeping schedule and started eating well, I took my safe person with me (my wife, who was the most supportive person for me through this entire ordeal), and we went on subway rides, and taxi rides, and even plane rides! the first ride was always tough, but the subsequent rides got a litter easier each time I took them. It is now 2 months later, and my wife and I have managed to relocate from Beijing, China to New York City (with a cat too!), I've managed to go from this useless puddle of slime to a somewhat functioning person again! I still get some anxiety sometimes, but it's much more manageable now. Things do get better my friends, hang in there. P.S Also, here is a little hack the Chinese doctor taught me: If you feel like you can't stop your anxiety, just close your eyes, take a finger, and press down slightly on one of your eyelids, you should feel pressure on your eyeball; your anxiety will be reset within a minute. THIS ABSOLUTELY WORKED FOR ME LIKE A MIRACLE.
I am suffering from 8 months with this problem, only some time in day when i am very busy i breath automatic and while sleep Other time i have to breath manually but if you try to find root cause of problem it will help.

I have struggle with this type of OCD for a while now, but right now I am better and feel like a weight has been lifted of my shoulder. One tip I could give is you don’t have to think/worry about your breathing because their is parts in your brain (the nervous system)that do it for you. Second this type of OCD is fear. The fear of you being stuck thinking about your breathing forever, but that is not true. Fear does not exist it is just a illusion, that your brain came up with, so it is not real. Third tip relax breath remember you are okay. ( I really hope this helps. Thank you and remember stay strong. It will get better. It did for me)

This is a constant battle for me. After nearly 20 years, I noticed I have been focusing on manual breathing during times of high anxiety. The problem is that my anxiety gets bad when it happens. It's very frustrating. I have had it off and on for the last 2 years and most times I have to tell myself off and say that if this is going to be the way that it will be for the rest of my life, then so be it. It's so debilitating. I can't pin point what causes it and distractions don't work. It's just awful. I wish I could shut it off. People feel helpless around me because they don't understand it, but they are supportive. I never thought I would be so envious of people who don't have this condition, but I really am.
Have you tried what he was talking about at 8:39 and onward...similar strategies? Stopping your compulsions to distract are a big part of stopping ocd cycles. It's very tough to cure your fear for breathing if you cant stop running for it. That's why distraction doesnt work.. Distraction is basically running from your fear of breathing.
@@ameershuaib4315 I’m constantly in recovery. This weekend I’ve noticed less focussing on it, but I have a lot of stress at the moment so it’ll likely flair up. Hang in there. Once you truly accept that you have it, it’ll start going away.
for anyone who’s struggle with sensimotor ocd, there is a hope, im a living example for it i was struggling for my entire life with this, it started when i was a kid and now im in my 20s. i was noticing my swallowing, breathing and blinking, not all at the same time but through years everytime it was happening, i was scared and my tactic was to fight it and one day, year ago, i started noticing my swallowing once again and just had enough i did some research then and found this video which helped me a lot! instead of fighting the swallowing sensations, i started swallowing like crazy - i think it was like hundred times in day, i was thinking about it on purpose and surprise… it was gone what’s more - now when it’s happening i’m accepting it, embracing it and i’m not scared of it so i’m not focusing much and it is always fading away by some time i do the same with breathing, blinking, it does even work with panic attacks- it is gonna be very uncomfortable for some time but it’s gonna work, i promise!
Thank goodness I have not had a lot of experience with this subtype of OCD. Sometimes in the past I have noticed floaters and obsess that I am going blind. I have to test my own eyes and ask someone for reassurance that I’m not going blind whenever that happens to me. But I think that’s more like health-related OCD. Thanks for sharing this video so that we can empathize for people who struggle with other subtypes and be knowledgeable. Knowledge is power! Take care!
Thank god I have found this. I thought that I had a general anxiety disorder but the anxiety medication could not help my complete obsession with my breathing. I have been struggling with this for 10 years but am very happy to see that it’s not just me and that there is hope

Urinary frequency for me. For a few months I became obsessed with making sure my bladder was empty before bed, often making myself go 3 times before going this sleep. Gradually it became an all day thing, to the point where I was making myself go every 30 minutes. Urologists have ruled out infection or retention. Now I’m hyper aware of even the slightest drop in my bladder. I’ve been training myself to accept these sensations for a few weeks now. Things seem to be getting better in that I feel less anxious about the bladder signals. I’ve gotten to the point where I can differentiate actually needing to go and the unnecessary signals from my hyper awareness. My biggest challenge is trying to stop myself from physically checking by pressing my finger into my bladder... this sends more false signals and increases my awareness. Ten years ago I had an issue with blinking that lasted about a year. I never thought I’d be dealing with an issue like this again.
I have this. I'm trying to figure out the difference between just, the sensation of my pelvic floor and actually needing the toilet. I don't get the full bladder sensation anymore, I just think I always need the toilet.
Aemulus have you tried using a timer? I did that for about 3 weeks and it seemed to help. I recently stopped the timer because it was bringing too much attention to my bladder, bur it put me at a good 3 hour interval.
I started having this about a week ago and it’s so horrible. I’m also constantly pressing on my bladder to “check” if I need to go and obviously it makes me feel like I have to. Could we maybe talk about this ?
I definitely relate a LOT to the breathing and heart beat aspect. I used to do CrossFit gym training and ever since I started noticing my breath which caused panic attacks I stopped going to the gym because it was making it worse. It’s honestly scary because I whenever that panic attack comes I feel as if I can’t breathe even though I am breathing just fine. Then I hyper-ventilate.
I can feel the panic starting to set on but i always manage to control it The problem is that it gets tiring really quick when you're fighting your own mind all the time
Last light i had some stomach issues and acidity and suddenly I started noticing my breath my family was saying ...you are breathing fine but i felt heavy in my chest 😂 now still I'm feeling a bit but I'm sure it will fade
The only things that stop my over-awareness are playing with my baby daughter and playing video games. It’s hard, man. And it’s gotten worse since she was born actually. Thanks for this video, this explains a lot.
I have had this for years surrounding manually swallowing/salivating. I think its also related to social anxiety as I am afraid of other people noticing and thinking that I am weird. I also have this fear of "giving" it to someone else like its a disease. Like if I sit next to someone they will notice me swallowing loudly and then they will become conscious of their swallowing and thus they will have caught my "disease". So I feel guilty if I sit next to someone and notice them swallowing loudly too :( I know this sounds crazy but I've been dealing with it since I was 13 (so 7 almost 8 years!) And I actually for the first time am seeing a psychologist who specialises in ocd but my appointment isn't until late August so I've still got a while to wait
Yes, I've been dealing with this same problem for about 2-3 years, although I never got rid of it I have some things that help me cope with it like chewing gum because it distracts me. Anyways thank you for sharing hope this helps❤❤

Two years later after I struggled with this, it seems like a distant memory. If you're nervous that you have a breathing problem or something else go check it with a doctor. In most cases, like mine, it's just psychosomatic. Mine was accompanied with a constant feeling of having something stuck in my throat. I recommend psychotherapy to soemone that struggles with it, it's probably stress related. Mental health is really important, don't bury things guys
I feel so relieved knowing there are others like me. I was COVID positive a month ago. And when I was recovering, I kept checking my breathing to make sure my lungs were fine. I recovered from COVID just fine, but now this. 🥺 I CANNOT stop noticing my breathing. And it gives me anxiety, just like the Dr. said. I feel like I try to stop it, but I get aware even more, if that’s possible, and I worry my life is ruined. I will try this technique. Hopefully I will be fine. Please send good wishes.
To anybody going through this pleas existent carefully. This right here is very much curable the thing is that you have to be in a correct mindset the thing I did was focusing on my blinking eventually your brain will get bored of it also with time it will go away. For me it took me about a month and it went away right now I have some sort of weird feeling because all of a sudden my thoughts are empty which feel great!
I would love to have empty thoughts again and just be able to relax fully. About how long (minutes, hours?) would you focus on your blinking per day in order to get bored of it? Did you do this every day?

I had this, I’ll teach you how to get over it entirely, you’ll be like new again I promise! There are two rules, rule number one, THINK your thoughts in normal manner and don’t just come up with the first thought and start panicking and notice your breath get heavier, no, the brain can only FOCUS ON ONE THING AT A TIME so if you think and come up with normal conversation in your head you won’t notice your breath anymore. Rule number two FORGET ABOUT IT, there will be times when you’re gonna get triggered again, just remember rule nr one, it will always get you out of the woods, start thinking or counting to 20 until you get your focus back. Hello guys. I now we all in the comments have this. I really think it depends on each other what is the tehnique that works. For exemple, I usually calm myself with other toughts like : Okay so what if I am aware? That can not stop you from doing your tasks in life. I can think of this and still I can live mylife, even with the anxiety on the background. I am like a superhero! I am able to live life and be aware of the presant, my body. It's like im a genious. I think even if you are scared that u can focus on something or do your life, the truth is you can. Even with this thing on the background. We are genious, sensitive people. We are not sick. Maybe this is not even OCD. We have superpowers. Guys if we put a normal person in our skin with this problem, and it's a person who never experienced this, maybe they will lose it. But we've been through this many times. And still we are here. Alive. I hear you. You are a hero with a big superpower. That's all

I dont think about pink elephants or intrusive thoughts.. because i dont think anymore... i enjoyed this video but as a suffer of debilitating Somatic OCD... i really recommend mindfulness to ppl with ocd.. but i dont even like to call it that... i just tell ppl.. to be present as much as possible... eventually you will be living parallel to all your thoughts/ feelings... this will be weird and uncomfortable... but over many months or even a year or 2... your mind will fall completely silent... to me this is recovery.. some ppl call it enlightenment... i just call it being present.
Thanks for your thoughts my friend. Mindfulness can be a good tool. Ride the wave, try not to control anything and be present in the moment. When someone goes through this, they are looking toward the future how how they can remove it. Being present lets the the person feel what's happening but not but judgement to it.
I can relate to this 100%. I have been suffering with this on and off since I was 17 and I am now 22. Unfortunately it came back a few days ago and just in those few days it has sent me on a spiral that I am trying to recover from because I can feel it taking me over again.
@@ocdandanxiety it works what you said. It's exactly how you overcome it! Basically move your focus onto whatever is bothering you and keep doing it. Once the anxiety passes for it it won't exist anymore correct?
It sucks because so many meditation videos I watch involve breathing exercises and often they will tell you to pay close attention to your breath but for me that often has the adverse side effect of making my hyper-aware of it and then causing me anxiety. Hey guys, I had this for about a month, I was quarantined with covid and I thought I had a breathing problem. Basically, I wasn't doing much at the time and it was a period of stress for me. Having a schedule and doing daily tasks helps a lot forgetting the breathing ocd. You're never going to forget it, most of the times when you want to relax and sleep it's going to come back. You gotta get used to it, then you can handle it with ease. P.S. I was afraid to sleep because I thought I wasn't going to breathe in my sleep, I hadn't slept for days, and after that I was microsleeping. When I read a neurologist's comment I was relieved. You are not gonna die in your sleep, although you should check it out just to relieve some stress.
Hey hope your well, I have also noticed that when I'm trying to relax and go to sleep the problem starts getting worse. Just wanted to ask you if you still have that feeling

Thanks for this video! I just discovered I have OCD with breathing hyperfocus. It helped me to feel not so alone and weird. You're also very entertaining 😉
Did you overcome this please reply? I’m noticing my breathing every minute of the day it put me in anxiety I can’t even go out because I’m so much aware of my breathing idk if I should breathe with mouth closed only through nose or with both and I keep controlling it every minute and keep getting lightheaded 😰
What about if you’ve focused on breathing for over 12 years every single day that you’ve forgotten how to take a proper breath? I had a panic attack in 2022 because I wasnt breathing properly and ever since I’ve not been able to consciously breathe the way I used to. It’s the first thing I focus on a soon as I wake up, until I fall asleep. Which in itself is a massive issue.
I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder a couple months back, and it's been a rough but interesting ride I guess you could say.. I noticed more recently I've been hyperfocusing on my breathing and I had no idea why, I would also blink a lot intentionally and didn't understand why I kept doing that when it's such a natural thing. I feel like I definitely have this, one way I get away from noticing those things like my breathing, is by chewing gum, because I'm focused on that, or walking outside. This seriously helped me understand why I'm so fixated on something I never even payed any attention to in the past.
@@munnidey7038 still dealing with anxiety, but I've gotten a lot better. the OCD is still very new to me but I'm confident I'll get rid of all of this.
Sensorimotor obsessions can be treated quite successfully by decoupling any sensory awareness with reactive anxiety. In other words, sufferers must ultimately experience their sensory hyperawareness without any resulting anxiety.
GGs guys we just got to live and move forward it’s tough but we’re not alone we’re all going through this, just try to feel comfortable in any type of situation when it comes to this, drink water too

Google this tik tok video “green needle brain storm” it’s a doctor that explains in very simple fun way how the brain cannot focus on two things at once!
Omg he actually helped me. I was just thinking about forgetting my breathing and then I forgot because of that squirrel. Thank you! The thing is, I’m terrified of focusing on my breathing. When I do, it feels so uncomfortable. I start to freak out about how much I’m breathing and if I’m still breathing. I get so worried I’ll suddenly pass out because I didn’t notice my lack of oxygen, or I’ll get some kind of oxygen poisoning and lung damage from breathing too much. Anxiety makes me feel like I’m dying so I can’t tell if I’m dying or not :(
Has anyone feels like cant breathe enough, inhale ...this makes me anxious. Like I can't breathe enough, I need deep inhale and I can't do it always....
Yeah? It feels like I can’t get enough oxygen into my lungs and it feels like my lungs can’t fully expand. If I’m not breathing manually then it feels like I can’t breathe at all :(

I have panick attacks from panicking over my blinking and breathing. It gets to the point where when I try to lay down and rest I can't get comfortable because I hear the blood pulsing in my ears. The only time I have rest from these systems is when I have the crazing tinnitus. A cacophony of unending white noise.
This is a common cause of insomnia. If you do meditation focus excercises and do positive things before bed, your mind will drift off easier. Negative thoughts perpetuate hyper-self awareness
@@jacobbritton7359 is it possible to completely forget that thought ? I'm getting depressed and hopeless because of it I cannot forget it even for 1 minute it litteraly exhausted me physically and mentally ....
@@raissounitarik1567 Yes and no. The goal of meditation is not to make bad thoughts "go away" but to be so in touch with reality that the thoughts have no effect on your well-being. So you'll be a lot happier, the thoughts will be less common, and you'll know how to deal with them when they resurface. I recommend Stop, Breathe, and Think, its an app that has guided meditations for improved mindfulness. If you do them 1-2 times a day, your mind will get stronger and you'll be a lot happier--at least in my experience. Make sure to not rely on it too much though. I hope this helps! I know you're feeling hopeless, but I have faith that you'll be just fine :) Ill keep you in my prayers.
It seems like sensorimotor OCD could be called "negative mindfulness". I used to have this really bad. there were times that I would blink 10 to 20 times more than normal. My eyes felt SOOO dry all the time and I thought that people could see that "I looked guilty" if I didn't blink then people would think I was a bad person. I feared If I didn't blink then I would start to cry (not emotional but just an eye cry). This went away naturally but I wanted to stay something for those suffering his kind of thing. This intense focus can be a FANTASTIC THING, if it is interpreted positively, focusing on your breath or your hands and feet mindfully while interpreting it as a positive has the potential to put you into a wonderful peace state of mind. It can take you out of your thinking mind and into a state of peace. If your mind quiets while you do this then every little thing can be really enjoyable beyond what you would think. I hope this helps. Remember "peace is the lack of negative thoughts".
For anyone who is suffering from this, please don't make the same mistake I did when this all started. Don't mouth-breathe. I did this, originally assuming that I wasn't getting in enough air. The sad part is that I was getting more than enough, the anxiety just tricked me into that fear. Breathing in through your mouth hyperventilates you severely, especially if you gulp in air like a fish out of water, which is what I did. It led to two hellish months where I had multiple panic attacks on a daily basis. Mouthbreathing might feel like the secret to getting more air, but a slow, deep breathe through one's nose and an even slower exhalation through your mouth is what helped me. It lowers your heartrate and can calm you down enough to make things a little bit better. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, if you can. They've consistently made my symptoms worse. I don't want to bullshit any of you in saying that this hell can ever completely disappear, but you can survive this. It's not the end of everything, and if you pull through it you will come out as a stronger person. Good luck.
I've been like this for over a year. I try and inhale deeply obsessively and always focused of my breathing. It's a nightmare Did u feel like u can't take a deep breath ?
Wow this video helps so much thank you I really needed to see this…Currently getting over this, and Obbsessive thinking/ overthinking.. so nice to know Im not alone.. One of the best things ive noticed for me to do is take the time to meditate, watch your breath, but rememeber you are literally doing nothing. Did you just stop breathing? Why did that happen? Fear from a thought? See it and let your body get some air and youll burst through the ice. Just let the breathing happen dont judge it. During meditation also let your mind listen to noise around but dont focus on one particluar thing, just familiarize with all the random noises around, then come back to the breath, but you are doing nothing, just being aware and letting it go>
I had rocd then I shifted a little bit into sensorimotor ocd... I think you need to not forgetting that things are as they are and that you should accept it. I just feel like I don't wanna be really happy like everyone else is. But it just makes me feel good seeing this awesome man is "taking care and attention" of all the troubles I had/ have/... Hey you who's also suffering from ocd, don't think you'll end up like me! I still have faith anyways...
Nathan, would you be willing to make more videos on this specific topic? I have watched the videos on the playlist and they have been helpful, but there are times where I'm not sure how to handle the exposure therapy. I've broken free from other sensorimotor obsessions in the past, but focusing on them never actually caused any legitimate danger, and that doesn't seem to be the case for my breathing obsession. When breathing is off my mind, it's fine, so I don't believe I have a breathing problem. But when I focus on it, I seem to not breathe as well. I sometimes see colors, which suggests I am not breathing enough, or possibly too much. I sometimes get congested because I think I'm blowing out my nose too hard, and this makes it happen even faster. Instead of feeling afraid that I'll never get it off my mind, I'm afraid that having it on my mind is going to keep me from being able to speak, breathe, live, etc. and it is debilitating, especially because facing this fear seems to confirm it as rational, at least to some degree. I've been taking tips from your other videos and literally saying things like, "This might make me faint. So be it. Whatever." Or "Maybe I'm not breathing enough. Maybe I'll die because of it. Whatever." -to clarify: I'm not suicidal and don't want to die, but forcing myself to face the possibility that focusing on my breathing is going to suffocate me is the only way I can think to apply the tips to my specific obsession. I guess I'm just wondering if I should be doing this how I've been doing it? Like should I be resisting the compulsion to try to get it off my mind in public, even though I get so winded from talking to people and actually start to faint? When that happens, it feels like the only solution is to do the compulsion and get it off my mind but I don't want to do that. I've tried to look up exercises for breathing to be better at it, but a lot of them say to try and get it off your mind because it's not meant to be conscious, and exposure is all about doing the opposite. I'm trying to avoid having the 'safe spaces' thing going on, but I seem to only have successful exercises at home (and by that I mean exercises that end with me calming down rather than resorting to the compulsion of distracting myself) when I don't have to talk to anyone or do anything else while I'm focused on the breathing..And there's always a part of me that wonders if this is the right way to do the exercises anyway.. Idk if I'm supposed to call it quits after a certain period of time and return to the compulsion of distracting myself to give myself a break, or if I'm supposed to face the awareness of the breathing 24/7. though I always try to tell myself, so what if I'm not doing this right, maybe I'm not, whatever, and shut out that voice of doubt lol Anyway, I would be so grateful if you would be willing to talk about this in another video. I'm unable to afford therapy, but your videos have been so helpful to me. I'm often trying to take the tips from your other OCD videos and apply it to this issue, as I know, no obsession is special, but sometimes it's hard to think of how a tip would apply to this specific type of obsession.
Just trust me and write everything on paper every day..... Write down 1-all the reasons for your stress about breathing. 2- why it makes you stressed, 3-ask yourself is this thought useful or not 4-this is done automatically and there is no need to think and......... (all on paper). My friends we should know that writing can reduce the power of ocd and It will removes it, doing exercise can be a good help for writing.✌️😊

For me, I have been constantly manually breathing, and noticing my heartbeat and stuffy nose (even when congestion isn't that bad.) It has gotten so bad, that I have gotten anxiety attacks, and think it's something super bad so I've rush to the ER during the attacks, it has happened twice. At first, I thought it was something to do with my heart. I got so worried, and it even caused chest pain, and lightheadedness. The doctors that did blood work on me, would say I'm completely healthy for blood, heart, lungs, and just about everything else. I was so confused. So, I figured it was a mental thing, I did notice that I was manually breathing A LOT. I looked up how to fix it, and I came across this video and what do you know... Chewing gum helps out a lot, just focusing on chewing, and doing what the video said. It's crazy how much of a toll it has been to me in my daily life, it's hard to even just playing video games. I've had this for almost a month now, and still trying to improve. This video letting me be aware about it, really helps me out mentally, and relieves a lot of stress. Thank you so much
What a comfort just knowing I am not alone with thinking each time about my swallowing -- your videos are priceless and so informative. One question, what type of psychologist doctor would work with my swallowing problem?
I don't think it's a commonly discussed topic but what about sensorimotor obsessions and health anxiety. The thought isn't as much about being afraid you will always notice but more so that it is being caused because of a medical condition. It causes very much distress. Like focusing so much on how you talk that you can't focus on what your trying to actually say that you start messing up your words which causes more anxiety that it is being caused by a medical condition. Same with your breathing or heart rate.
Hey! I believe that a lot of people with ocd feel as if theirs was different than others. So do i, but to a certain point. I have OCD with words, language. It is triggered when hearing people talk, when i try to read. So basically...all the time, cause there is always words around us. I kind of realized few years ago in a state of anxiety that words are just some letters and it felt overwhelemd that humans understand language. It is hard to explain, but the main idea is that for example, when i read, my brain kind of forces me to think "how is it possible to understand text, what is understanding" so, instead of focusing on the text i only focus on this thought. And it is hard to detach, because text is triggering it. So it goves me like a sensation that i dont understand the meaning of the text, instead i am forced to think about "what does this text mean", and compulsion is kind of automatically telling my self that i cannot forget language, and yeah, it is miracle that we can understand consepts and it is possible. God, It even sounds so irrational when i describe it:D idk, but i kind of realize it might be similar to sensimotor ocd, that i fear that i will think like this forever and feel this nasty "not-understanding" feeling. But text is everywhere... and i guess my biggest fear is not to enjoy literature, get new knowledge and understand what my loved ones are saying.. .anyways.. yeah, rock and roll. I dont know how to handle it anymore. It is hard to help myself because i have developed a fear that if i dont understand words, then how can i even help myself. I have had periods when i kind of can forget about it, and then everything feels normal.but i dont know how to help myslef when ir comes back because then i notice it 100 %. And it takes months to kind of work it through.
@@mishyp_ i would ask you first, what did u do 6 years ago so it went away? For me the major breakthrough is really understanding that no matter what- these obsessive thoughts are part of anxiety- to rlly understand they are automatical. And i have practiced contiuning with the activity i was doing even if it feels soooo uncomfortable. It has has been a slow process but i feel i kind of taught my brain to not focusing on those thoughts anymore. I think i can say it is a focus problem. Fear of not being able to shift focus. So as always- fear of it keeps it active. We can discuss it more.
I actually typed this in to see. If somethings wrong with my breathing...UGH!! I hate the words, “It’s al in my head!!” I hate anxiety! I can’t believe it’s part of my anxiety! GRRRRR!!!🙄🤦♀️
This is the worst whenever I try to fall asleep! The breathing happens almost nightly. And sometimes the swallowing when I’m eating. It’s driving me nuts! Or I even think about my “thoughts” and I have to snap out of it by thinking about stuff or watching a random RUclips video. Hope to get over this someday. It’s been a thing for me for many years 😕
"I have to snap out of it by thinking about stuff or watching a random RUclips video" this might seem helpful but actually its the very thing that is keeping the disorder going. these are compulsions born out of fear and anxiety.
This happens to me when I walk. I get hyper focused on picking up every leg. Or when I drive. I'm so afraid I'm going to press the wrong peddle so I have to keep my focus on my right foot to make sure I press the right peddle.
Do you have sensorimotor OCD? What physical sensation do you focus on?👍🏻
wait I didn’t know this was a certain type of ocd, I think I have this. ):
Oh no. I hope you can find someone near you that can help you through it! 😃
mostly it's eye movements, blinking, sometimes breathing or tongue. But I've had over 30+ different ones at one point.

Will post back to inform progress once I make some, wish me luck :)
And hang in there brothers and sisters, we'll beat this, and we'll be stronger for it.
Did it get better?
😢 this is me now … please let us know if it got better
@@tosabendoagora4474 Yes it did, although this video didn't exactly help me at all lol.
Here's what really helped me:

Oh dang! Another great video! Your videos make my fear so much lighter. Does anyone else have the hyperawareness of SIMPLY EXISTING? Goodness, it is overwhelming. Oof! Thanks for the great content, Nathan.
Distraction is basically running from your fear of breathing.

for anyone who’s struggle with sensimotor ocd, there is a hope, im a living example for it
i was struggling for my entire life with this, it started when i was a kid and now im in my 20s.
i was noticing my swallowing, breathing and blinking, not all at the same time but through years
everytime it was happening, i was scared and my tactic was to fight it
and one day, year ago, i started noticing my swallowing once again and just had enough
i did some research then and found this video which helped me a lot! instead of fighting the swallowing sensations, i started swallowing like crazy - i think it was like hundred times in day, i was thinking about it on purpose and surprise… it was gone
what’s more - now when it’s happening i’m accepting it, embracing it and i’m not scared of it so i’m not focusing much and it is always fading away by some time
i do the same with breathing, blinking, it does even work with panic attacks-
it is gonna be very uncomfortable for some time but it’s gonna work, i promise!
The breathing thing is huge for me- especially during COVID!! Because I’m worried I won’t be able to breathe and that may mean I have it.

@@ambyjay2199 one year on and I am totally under control and never been better. I saw a good psychologist and psychiatrist that diagnosed me with OCD gave me treatment. It was a long journey but I’m much better now and hope anyone else struggling can get treatment too.
Could we maybe talk about this ?
this! its ruining me i dropped out of college:)
this ties into health anxiety a LOT for me haha, i’ve spent my whole life not knowing and now i do...
Same. It’s so frustrating.
Just makes me wish I didn’t have a body at all.
I can feel the panic starting to set on but i always manage to control it
The problem is that it gets tiring really quick when you're fighting your own mind all the time
Last light i had some stomach issues and acidity and suddenly I started noticing my breath my family was saying ...you are breathing fine but i felt heavy in my chest 😂 now still I'm feeling a bit but I'm sure it will fade
I've been exactly where you are. The accepting of the feelings and exposing myself to anxious situations has helped me. Also, prayer!

Thanks for your thoughts my friend. Mindfulness can be a good tool. Ride the wave, try not to control anything and be present in the moment. When someone goes through this, they are looking toward the future how how they can remove it. Being present lets the the person feel what's happening but not but judgement to it.

Now are you well?

Sensorimotor obsessions can be treated quite successfully by decoupling any sensory awareness with reactive anxiety. In other words, sufferers must ultimately experience their sensory hyperawareness without any resulting anxiety.

Fear keeps this alive, notice it without fear and ignore the thoughts, this is what is helping me
I have panick attacks from panicking over my blinking and breathing. It gets to the point where when I try to lay down and rest I can't get comfortable because I hear the blood pulsing in my ears. The only time I have rest from these systems is when I have the crazing tinnitus. A cacophony of unending white noise.
Who else does have an obssession of sleep like you're thinking about the moment of falling asleep and can't distract yourself from it ?
your not alone
I had this problem before
Thank you so much for this video. I thought my brain was broke. After I started making an effort to notice it it stopped being so intrusive
Friend can we talk about this? I need some tips i have the same with blinking. Can we talk somewhere
Mindfulness is a fantastic way to become anxious. It is so counterproductive.
It's a nightmare
Did u feel like u can't take a deep breath ?
This is literally what I’m going three right now
I can only mouth breath due to not being able to breathe from my nose since childhood 😂

During meditation also let your mind listen to noise around but dont focus on one particluar thing, just familiarize with all the random noises around, then come back to the breath, but you are doing nothing, just being aware and letting it go>
What do you mean just let the breathing happen if it’s manual breathing and u choose when to breathe?

1-all the reasons for your stress about breathing.

What you're saying is similar to the DARE response, instead of fighting it embrace it. That way YOU are in control
woah the floaters in the eyes is so spot on. i remember doing that a lot as a kid and freaking out that i’d never not notice them.
Did you ever get through this obsession?
@@mishyp_ its now more on the backround
@@mishyp_ i would ask you first, what did u do 6 years ago so it went away?
For me the major breakthrough is really understanding that no matter what- these obsessive thoughts are part of anxiety- to rlly understand they are automatical. And i have practiced contiuning with the activity i was doing even if it feels soooo uncomfortable. It has has been a slow process but i feel i kind of taught my brain to not focusing on those thoughts anymore. I think i can say it is a focus problem. Fear of not being able to shift focus. So as always- fear of it keeps it active. We can discuss it more.
Thank you for making this so I myself and others can understand it and then sit in it and enjoy
