I have a US Tesla. I have a boombox folder on my flash drive that has music mp3 files. My favorite is the Imperial March from Star Wars, which I can play through the external speaker.
I think in the US they can also assign custom sounds to the horn using mp3 files and also I don't believe it gets disabled once in drive. Probably some crappy UK/EU regulation preventing it actually being fun...as usual!

I think they made musical horns illegal in the UK in 1974 after a craze of fitting musical air horns was started. Fun is not allowed in the UK in case someone’s stiff upper lip might crack!

The US version allows you to replace the horn sound and use it while driving. It also has a "drive sound" feature where the external speaker can make sound effects while driving. Anything from "cocoanuts", the Monty Python horse riding sound effect, to "ice cream truck", that plays those horrid tunes that the local ice cream trucks play to attract kids.
Enjoyed the video… but I’m just getting my head around the fact that I’ve watched a bloke running down the street, chasing a car to tell us if he can hear it or not… while wearing a radio mic !!! I wonder if there was an easier way? 😂
If only there was a kind of wheeled device to help a person run faster down a street, without being trapped inside a car! And electrified, like a bicycle, wheelchair, or skateboard perhaps
Be useful if you had the option of a sound / volume when going forward that was similar to the reversing sound for use if you’re in a louder environment, I can still imagine pedestrians not hearing that in noisy city traffic

When putting it in Drive with the driver's window open, I cant hear anything from the speaker at all, but I live in an urban area so there is always a certain amount of background noise. This means that the car is no louder than ambient noise levels which is a bit pointless if the whole idea of PWS is to alert pedestrians that a vehicle is approaching. I know that UK legislation prevents horns from being musical but this isn't a horn as far as the law is concerned,
Does the boombox horn work if it’s in neutral? Like put it in drive and then neutral while the car is rolling, then enter the menu and activate it, it would be an interesting thing to try.

Unfortunately it’s only the new one’s, 2019 doesn’t have the speaker and Tesla would have to have an update the recognises a speaker has been added.Plus with the regulation imposed you can’t implement sounds when driving like you can in the usa

You can buy aftermarket LED ambient light systems from Amazon. Once installed they look just as tacky and gaudy as the crap that comes as standard in new Mercs 🤮

These should be standard from factory. To all those that moan about the superb fuel economy from the EV... I pay €20 weekly on average in fuel and I only refuel once per week - for EVs 99% of the owners out there keep them plugged in every night or wherever they go - if you call that convenience then you are nuts as this adds extra hassle in today's fast moving life. To those who will brag about full self driving - ok it is cool but it is many years away from being legally allowed to fully drive on autopilot - and ro change laws it takes time so probably this will not happen soon... In reality fuel savings are for those that go cross country daily, cause for the average person they will not matter much. So what we all want is a superb car with amazing build quality and all the tech & comfort features if today's top cars so that we keep living a comfortable life. So to put it simply, a great Tesla is a car that has all current features, plus the following features at least: Ventilated seats Proper interior ambient lighting Rear seat entertainment screens Rear seat pulldown tab/handle Trunk and Frunk kick sensor HeadsUpDisplay Option for massage seats

I thought the horn was just replaced with the sound not keeping the horn then playing the sound. That kinda sucks. Still funny but definitely better if it just replaced it altogether
A bit more useful if the sound came out of the back of the car in reverse since its so quiet. Another half baked effort to comply with new safety requirements.

I collected my made in China LR Model 3 in March 2021. No Boombox feature is available and thankfully it doesn’t make that pedestrian noise. So this update must be limited to the newest cars Do you think this feature will become available for earlier Shanghai built cars? Will the U.K. govt force Tesla to retroactively enable pedestrian warning noises? By the way that doesn’t sound like a goat to me. More like a cow.
Problem is even if you fit the speaker, until tesla have a software update that will recognise you added the speaker it won’t work, I have asked at the service Center sadly Tesla haven’t got a plan for retrofitting yet
there's talk of it, you will have the wiring behind the bumper on the right side (as sat in car) and look underneath and you should see the speaker grille, if none are present then a retrofit is not possible
The problem being even if you have wires to fit speaker in the car. The car will not recognise speaker, Tesla will need to do a software fix allowing the car to recognise you added a speaker until that happens it would be no point adding a speaker as it would not work

I read somewhere that at present our laws (UK Law) dont allow us to have external speakers and the only noise we are permitted to emit from any moving vehicle is the horn, in June or July that changes, due to electric cars being virtually silent, from that date any new electric vehicles must produce an audible warning (ie: simulated engine noise) to alert pedestrians of it’s presence. I could be wrong!
Can't really hear forward noise so pointless. Pedestrians don't even hear much louder sounds from other evs anyway though. Would have liked to customise horn sounds when driving but probably can't for legal reasons.

In germany it is already disabled. The only function of Boombox is now a Sound after the horn in PARK. So ist Perry useless.

The speaker might be retrofittable but it won’t be mandatory. Only from July, all new builds will need the pedestrian warning sound.
