After seeing so many horrible videos about large scale farms & how horribly the animals are treated & kept, this is a mood booster. Your animals get to feel grass under their feet, get sunlight & fresh air. I can also see that you care about their health & not being cruel, even if they will be feeder chickens.
Thank you for being what a chicken farmer should be. 🧡

Awesome! My father, Dan West, gave me the chicken house on our farm in Indiana and helped me to raise broilers for several summers to help with my college costs. I cleaned out our old chicken house, took grain from our silos, and have it ground into feed at our farm coop...and received 4 boxes of 80 chickies from Sears Roebuck. It was thrilling and awesome work for several summers.

As a person who has journeyed from interested novice to self-informed farmer practitioner, to small scale commercial poultry and egg producer, I can tell you I wish I'd had this video to guide me years ago. Heifer has laid out the complete pastured poultry program without the self-aggrandizing or fear-based hype that accompanies so many other presenter's spiels. While I'll never reach the volume of birds raised and processed by Heifer, I know from first-hand knowledge and experience, that the processes and protocols explained here can be scaled to fit on almost any size plot of land. The goals of self-sufficiency, reduced dependence on factory farming, and supporting local food suppliers can all be achieved using the techniques demonstrated in this video. I applaud the working Heifer theology and am particularly happy to see this video gently spreading the unspoken words that food security and planetary sustainability are not mutually exclusive concepts.

When I moved to The Village, next door had a chicken coop and a dozen or so birds. Many mornings I'd open the front door to find them on my porch, waiting because I'd toss a handful of bird mealworms out for them. It was great to see them wandering around all day, diggling about in the soil and grass. When I'd come back in the car one in particular would come running over for an extra mealworm or two. Very intelligent birds, too. Shame they've gone.

This is such a neatly, well-elaborated Chicken farming video i have had in a while. As a new chicken farmer in Kenya - Africa, with only a starting number of 50 one month chicks, i look forward to growing to this kind of setup and well-outlined brooder and as your T-Shirt correctly says, The Future is Farmers. This has been so healful to me.

Our family has raised chickens since the 1930s. I see alot has stayed the same especially the equipment, there is alot more paperwork and smarter technology. You schooners are the best idea yet. I had to shovel out 6 inches of compacted poo between each brood. (For 2.75 an hour)

Hi, Elizabeth. Thanks for watching! The video was done simply as a project to help educate small holder farmers on the regenerative agriculture practices used at Heifer Ranch in Perryville, AR that is run by our team at Heifer USA. As a part of Heifer International, we are a non-profit organization dedicated to helping small-holder farms across the globe reach sustainable and living incomes. We use Heifer Ranch as a living classroom to help train the next generation of farmers in the United States and supply healthy proteins and specialty crops to consumers.
