    Here are some serious shortcut and layout enhancements that I guarantee will speed up your workflow! Ultimately, you want to get the tools out of the way, so to speak, so you can just concentrate on making good painting and color picking decisions, not hunting for stuff in the menu system.
    Here we go over two main sections:
    Edge Keyboard:
    - Enable by swiping from left or right bezel
    - Helpful for modifier keys that aren’t actions, but that modify an existing tool
    - Shift, Control=right click, Option = color picker, Command = go into the shortcut settings and set “common” to “Change brush size”
    - My shortcuts:
    - T1: blender (remove from option set)
    - T2: show source (custom action)
    - T3: hide source (custom action)
    - T4: duplicate layer
    - T5: reset rotate
    - T6: reset view
    Command Bar:
    - Great for running frequently used command or accessing less frequently used panels
    - Both are set in the command bar settings:
    - Running commands: find in the menu system and drag them into the command bar
    - Group stuff!
    - Add adjustment layers
    - Popping out panels: find in the “pop up” category
    - Tool Property palette

    Like everyone else here...thank you for an excellent, clear, very helpful go over. I was using Clip Studio back when it was early days (Manga) and some of the help stuff was still in Japanese like instructions..but once the first ipad entered my life, increasingly i was using it and not the desktop so..eventually, i gave up Clip and started trying to use Procreate and Comic Draw as ipad substitutes..when this app arrived, i was thrilled and i really appreciate your lucid explanations to remind me of what i have forgotten and what i never knew. thanks!

    I'm having the same problem as discribed on another comment on this video: I go to the "modifier key settings" and change the things I want, like putting the command button to change the brush size. I hit "ok", but when I try using it, the command button just moves the content of the layer like the "move layer" tool. Is another configuration overriding the modifier keys settings? Anyone had this same problem?

    • @ReubenLara
      @ReubenLara  5 лет назад +2

      Make sure you there are no tools that are overriding the "common settings" for your Command button assignment. if a particular tool is not behaving properly, make sure the "Cmd:" dropdown says "common" and not "change tool temporarily".

    Great video, thanks! I have a question: anyone know how to access to the vanishing point dropdown menu on the iPad CSP? The one that allows to delete/add/infinitize a vp... On my Mac/Wacom pen I just click the pen button which I had set as right click, but the Apple pencil obviously doesn't have buttons. I thought the ctrl button on the edge keyboard could be a solution, but it isn't. Thanks for your help.

    • @ReubenLara
      @ReubenLara  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Robert. Great catch! You're right, in this case, the Control modifier does not bring up the menu. It turns out that "Infinitizing" a perspective line doesn't have a unique command in the menu, but is rather a shortcut to rotating a vanishing point to be completely parallel. According to this page ( www.clipstudio.net/en/howto/ms_03 ), you simply need to drag the [+] portion of the VP while holding SHIFT to constrain it horizontally, and now you have an "infinitized" line (which is the same as a parallel special ruler). Thanks for pointing it out!

    • @rbcchan
      @rbcchan 6 лет назад

      thanks for your reply! I'll check that asap :-)

    • @rbcchan
      @rbcchan 6 лет назад +1

      Hi again Reuben. I've tried but it seems that shift-dragging the cross on the guide does't work on the iPad. But I did find a work around for this issue, and the other ones that I've pointed out. To edit an existing perspective ruler on iPad just press the perspective ruler icon on the tools palette, in its tool property window there's a command called "content of process" which allows to add, delete, infinitize, fix vanishing points. I don't know wether they introduced it in this latest version (1.7.4) or it's always been there, but it solves the problem.

    My Change Brush Size Modifier Key is broken. Is this bug just in mine or is it a known issue?

    • @D.R.Greenlaw
      @D.R.Greenlaw 3 года назад +1

      If it seems 'broken' after you've set the Common setting to Change Brush Size, switch the Settings radio button back to For Each Process Of Tool and check that Cmd is set to Common. If the tool is set to Change Tool Temporarily or something other than Common, this setting will override your Common setting. Once this is set to Common, the tool will use your Common setting (i.e., Change Brush Size). Depending on your current default settings, you may need to repeat this change for multiple drawing tools. Hope this helps.

    Great Video. Can a color be saved with a brush?
    Ex.ample when I select my pencil brush I also want color to switch to black and when I select my marker brush I want it to switch to blue. Thank you.

    • @ReubenLara
      @ReubenLara  6 лет назад

      Good question. Technically, yes. But in practice, it's not very intuitive. I'll put a feature request in to Celsys though. At the moment, CS doesn't have a Tool Preset palette like Photoshop does, where you can save specific variants of brushes with an option to save the color as well. But on the flip side, unlike PS, once you adjust a brush's settings it stays that way, and there's no need to create a tool preset. That being said, you can easily create a NEW brush with a specific color if you base the pattern off of an RGB layer vs. a grayscale layer. If you create a new brush using a shape on a regular full color layer, then that new brush will always be the color of the registered pattern. But if you set the layer the pattern is taken from to a grayscale layer (open the "Layer Property" palette and change the layer mode to "Grayscale") before you register the brush pattern, then the brush will inherit whatever color is selected in the color palette. So... by creating a pattern (even if it is just a circle) with a specific color, registering it as a material and creating a new brush from it without turning that layer into Grayscale, the brush will always be that color regardless of what's chosen in the color palette. Watch my "Clip Studio Basics" tutorial (see 21:08 for that specific section) to see what i'm talking about. Hope that helps!

    • @vwgm
      @vwgm 6 лет назад

      Wow thank you so much for your help. Seems very complicated for something that could be added with just a check box.
      Hope they will improve the graphics when zooming, rotating and transforming selections very choppy movement at the moment, but otherwise the most professional paint program for iPad, just hope it would be a one time price.

    • @ReubenLara
      @ReubenLara  6 лет назад

      Agreed. The choppiness isn't a deal breaker for me as tablets will only get faster. It really is a miraculous programming job in the sense that it is exactly like the desktop app. Pretty amazing. And yes, they'll lose a lot of customers if they don't rethink their strategy. Hope they figure it out! Best wishes on your art.

  • @1SnarfyDude

    Ok, I got an iPad Pro. I got the Clip studio paint and I've been following along. The problem I'm having is the pencil doesn't always draw. I've tightened up the tip like you're supposed to and make sure it's charged and re- docked it but it still loses sensitivity at times and just won't do anything. I'm pushing hard enough that I'm worried about breaking the glass. The pencil works in other applications just not this. Is this a problem that other people run into or should I see if a different apple pencil will work better? Maybe it's a hardware problem?

    • @Eryka_art
      @Eryka_art 5 лет назад +1

      I’ve had that same problem before
      I usually loosed it up and then re-tightened it and then it works fine
      My iPad pro came with an extra nib so if you have the extra nib you can try that as well

    • @1SnarfyDude
      @1SnarfyDude 5 лет назад

      @@Eryka_art Thanks. It turns out that it was a bad pencil. I took it back to Best Buy and traded it for a different one, it works fine now. The guy there told me they'd had two or three others with the same problem. It must have just been a bad batch.

    Weird, changing command to chance brush size doesn't work for me. It just moves whatever layer I'm dragging.

    • @ReubenLara
      @ReubenLara  6 лет назад +3

      The Modifier Key Setting section has two modes: “common settings”, and “settings for each process of tool”. If you’re on the “common settings” radio button, and “command” is set to “change brush size”, it will work for any brush that Clip Studio has by default set to “common” when in the “settings for each process of tool” mode. Soooo... if a brush is not behaving as you expect, do the following 1) select the brush in question, 2) go the Modifier Key Settings panel, 3) select the “settings for each process of tool” mode, find the “Cmd” settings, and set it to “common”. It will now use the common setting, which should be set to change brush size”. Hope that makes sense!

    • @DaveBarrack
      @DaveBarrack 6 лет назад

      Wow, that is not intuitive, but I got it to work finally. Thanks!

    • @ReubenLara
      @ReubenLara  6 лет назад

      Yeah. The logic makes sense, but as is the case when *everything* is customizable, it's easy to get lost in the settings. Also, the Japanese/English translation choices are always head scratchers! Glad you got it working.

    Reuben can you edit the menu items for the lasso tool?

    • @ReubenLara
      @ReubenLara  6 лет назад

      Do you mean can the lasso tool have alternate functions when modifiers or a finger is used? Yes. In fact, on my set up, just so I din't have to have the Move tool available all the time, I set the Command modifier to "Switch tool temporarily" to "Move Layer". That way when i'm working on a bunch of layers, i can always use my lasso for either making selections or for moving things around by holding down the command button. Is that what you meant?

    • @ReubenLara
      @ReubenLara  6 лет назад

      But if you meant can you edit the Selection Launcher (the pop up menu that shows up when a selection is made), also yes. Go to View > Selection Launcher Settings. Then you can drag and drop items into it.

      Sam Adams Are you referring to inking on a vector layer? If so, you need to assign one of the T buttons to the vector eraser. Go to the shortcut settings, find the tools > vector eraser, and then when the assignment field is activated, tap the T button you’d like it to be assigned to.

    It really sucks that android can’t do this. If you have your s pen on the canvas, the edge board is not usable. You have to move your s pen off the canvas to use them. Might return my tab tbh

    So on many art you tubers who have an apple ipad.
    They take their finger select a colour than they drag that colour and drop it down and it fills the area. Does anyone know how they do this.

      You just said it, just have to hold and drag the color (where the color wheel is) and bring it to where you want to fill. Hope that makes sense
