The Removal of Crush cars from Monster Jam and Subsequent Controversy
Since the mid-late 2010s, Monster Jam has been criticized for their slow departure from using crush cars, instead utilizing tracks consisting almost entirely of dirt ramps (as well as tire ramps). Nowadays, Monster Jam almost never uses any form of crush cars are their events. There are a handful of key reasons as to why Monster Jam has moved away from using crush cars. One reason for this is that it saves money and time when creating the course and tearing it down. Another reason was for safety concerns, as shrapnel and pieces of car have been thrown 40-50 feet in the air during some freestyles and occasionally into the stands. Another reason is also that the drivers tend to prefer mostly dirt tracks. Over the course of a show, cars and vans will be crushed down, which can cause some racing lanes/obstacles to be lower and flatter than others. On top of this, cars being crushed down provides an unfair challenge to some drivers during freestyle, as the first drivers get fresh, untouched obstacles, while later drivers get flattened obstacles that do not allow for the same moves or "wow" moments earlier drivers could accomplish.
Early on during the departure, Monster Jam would continue to utilize free-standing crush cars, crush cars embedded in certain obstacles, and even attempted the Wall of Steel stunt with Maximum Destruction in 2016, showing that they were still open to including them in their events.
In September of 2016, Monster Jam made a further refinement regarding the use of crush cars when responding to comments left on one of their Instagram photos, which was a photo of Scooby Doo crushing a set of crush cars at a speedway track. They stated that stadium and arena shows were designed to be dirt constructed, while speedway shows would remain car-based.
On February 15, 2019, Monster Jam announced the discontinuation of free-standing crush cars due to the concern of modern cars having more debris, which had been thrown into a tarped-off section of the stands at an event before the announcement. In May of 2019, Monster Jam performed in Manchester, UK, with a non-dirt track consisting of concrete blocks and road barriers as obstacles rather than crush cars. While this was meant to be a temporary alternative to crush cars, it was received negatively by most fans in attendance.
At the 2021 Atlanta Motor Speedway events, the track would feature numerous crush cars embedded in many of the freestyle obstacles, the first time they had done so since 2019. Regardless, there are no definite plans to re-include crush cars frequently.
Present Day - Future of Crush Cars
Despite Monster Jam being the most noteworthy example, many other promoters and events have also begun to move away from using crush cars over the past few years. This is due to many of the same reasons as listed for Monster Jam, as well as it being increasingly more difficult to find quality crush cars to be used in events. Series/promoters such as Monster Truckz, WGAS Motorsports, and Mega Monster Trucks Live rarely if ever use crush cars at their events. On the contrary, Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live performs concrete-only arena shows with tracks consisting entirely of painted crush cars, with the cars placed on tires for elevation and support. Regardless, most monster truck events continue to use crush cars in some capacity, albeit in a more reserved manner compared to years past.

      Fatal Monster Truck Incidents
      Natural High
On January 17th, 2009, at the Tacoma Dome in Washington, the truck Natural High was freestyling. Around the end of its run, a piece of the driveshaft came out, flew into the stands and struck six-year-old Sebastian Hizey, killing him. This incident would lead to mandatory colored driveshaft loops, SIR's driveshaft blanket system and was rumored to be the reason that the Captain's Curse racing crash from that year's World Finals has never been shown in official footage, in order to not garner any more controversy.
      Samson
Exactly one week later in Madison, Wisconsin, after a race between Samson and Holman's Beast, Dan Patrick was driving the truck back into the pits when announcer George Eisenhart stepped out from a barrier and onto the track. Patrick did not see Eisenhart as he was beyond the truck's field of vision and was struck by the tire fatally. Unlike most of these incidents, this one was not seen as an error on the truck's part, as it was impossible for Patrick to see Eisenhart before he stepped on the track. It is believed George had come out to end racing and did not see Patrick.

IMO Frank Kremel in Del Scorcho or Charlie Pauken in Monster Mutt should've won the title, Meents's run was great but 1. It's not fair to the other competitors that you get to bring an obstacle out for yourself and 2. Tom didn't hit nearly as many obstacles as the other two. He spent more time course correcting than actually freestyling.
