This guitar was found on the side of the road in the garbage - my friend picked it up and gave it to me to see what I could do with it. I think I have decided to turn it into an Octave Mandolin / Mando Guitar... crazy, right? I was inspired but some beautiful Octave mandolins made by Northfield instruments. It has some issues with the headstock, but other than that, it is in very good shape. Let me know in the comments what you think. Stay tuned for more videos to come in the series.

I really got a lot out of the series. There are so many tiny details that I pick up when I watch a knowledgeable person solve a problem. I love the mandolin by the way. Great Job.

Looks nice. Great work. I think it sounds really nice. I think the guitar body gives the instrument a deeper tone than the more usual, smaller Octave Mandolin bodies. Sounds good to me anyway. If this was in a shop near me, I'd be sorely tempted. Now you need to get a "Manotick" logo on there. Thanks once again for sharing your work and your wisdom :)

I really enjoyed this project. I hope to hear it in person sometime! I live just over the border from you. Happy new guitar day too you (finally, right?)!

As a blind multi instrumentalist in Brockville Ontario, I would love to try this thing. I play mandolin, as well as Irish bouzouki, which this octave mandolin is basically imitating, although I think there are technically two different instruments even though the tuning and range is exactly the same. With traditional Irish bouzouki playing however most people will tune the highest string down to a D, but I elect to have a string gauge on mine that will allow me to play at both pitches for that string.

I don't much about bouzoukis - I will have to look into them.

So off the subject here , I'm looking at a P-bass shield plate to go under a leather pick guard , will it give enough stability ?? Made by Kluson ? The area over the control panel tone , volume and the 1/4 jack is kind of floppy.
