They do automatically track, but from the distances they were at, the tracking loses people pretty easily, so you weren't entirely wrong. I also would have been tempted (as a drone operator myself) to just get cool shots like you had said rather than focusing on establishing shots. Good stuff Hillier, maybe one day I'll get to your level!

About the Logo delay: A years-long Dude Perfect viewer, I've come to expect the title card. Its not bad, just part of Dude Perfect's brand. Their fanbase is massive and hangs on all of their videos. I don't expect they loose any die-hard viewers with that. Also, because DP's videos are so energetic and 'bouncy', the title card can be interpreted as the final audience "breath" before the video. The calm before the storm, the "buckle up" moment, the "hold on to your hats."
Personally, I feel that the intro is very original and gives us the dude perfect vibe! Which makes us feel at home in a sense and give us abit of satisfaction when we watch the video!
The 8 second logo for me is perfect. In that 8 seconds i relaxed and i changed how i sat in my chair without worring of missing something on the screen because i know its the logo i have seen many times
I feel like there's no difference by adding or not adding logo, But they have to,because that 8 second logo is the signature of their video, You don't feel the importance of logo because you're watching their video for the first time but it breaks the heart of the fans who have been following then from long time
LOL, on three to four of your videos I thought to myself "These are packed with useful info, I am gonna add this to a specific playlist", then realized that every single video you put out is a gem, so it wasn't necessary, as all I need to do is remember your channel name. One of the best channels on YT, by far. Keep up the good work man. Also, no-go on the 8 second logo that you were asking about in the video. Honestly, no intro, or an intro that is 1-3 seconds is ideal. You want them to see who you are, and remember it, but not be bogged down by the time it takes to deliver that information.
When the music cuts out, its also the reveal within the stiry of the truce. The audience knew, but the characters did not, making it a somber realization for yellow
Our opinion on the logo - it establishes and builds the brand. Yes, audience retention is important and the video itself would have been better without it. In the bigger picture, they're trying to build loyalty to their brand over any one particular video concept. But we could be wrong! Thanks for the breakdown. Gives us plenty of great ideas!

Everyone can make tutorials on how to edit with a certain program but the way you understand and explain how to edit, why some things work and don't is freaking good man. Wow I am so glad I found you! I’m not just saying this to be whatever, you actually make sense when you are talking about this stuff. Other people I watch are so confusing and you aren’t. Good job
The logo bit does disengage us from the video but I will still watch it cause its Dude Perfect. I personally think it's content of my interest so I will watch it nevertheless. However, the rhythm should not be broken. If one is watching Dude Perfect for the first time, they may click off. I have seen your videos before through which I have realized how important rhythm is in a video. They could have shortened that logo bit or the title card so it fits perfectly in the beat and momentum.
What I almost always do in my editing is leave a breathing space. It's always shorter than the hyped parts but I just kind of feel like "okay that section is filled with hype, let me let them breathe a little" So yeah I think the logo was pretty good idea. Because with that hype, you almost start breathing faster and your heart speeds up so you need to have like checkpoints to slow down every now and then
Personally, I love the intro, it gives you an intermission and allows you to get excited about what's coming next. Kind of like standing on the edge of a plane you are about to skydive out of. Also the sick animations of the intro make it even better.

That’s at least what I think coming from an advertising background and spending around a million a month in ads. Great video, always love watching them 👏👏👏
I've been studying graphic design and obviously, when it comes to the logo it means the brand identity, well to summarize things up after so much hype and showing the magnificence of the settings it's time to show that here we are again its showtime, to express that roll your identity of who your group is and that's the logo sequence, they also did a great job of 3d animation of logo it looks intriguing for the eyes of new watchers but for old watchers, the logo sequence is like "yeah it's fucking dude perfect time", plus it's ok because they didn't cut the momentum by still playing the upbeat song so I actually think that placing logo sequence there is also strategic.
@@HillierSmith your so up in my trust that i didnt even check whats the book about and bought it instantly, only after i ordered i checked the discription
DP has one of the best audience retentions on the platform, can compete with dobrik and casey n. They're audience also is very strong and skews younger. So the Logo gives a break to engage the audience 2 more times as a build up. Also they way they explain the video sequence has been a standard of DP. It creates more build up instead of a unknown or hesitated surprise in middle or end. Its all genuine action because the have the same energy IRL with the fans they meet. Same guys on and off camera. They also are consistently on schedule with what day they post to the exact minute so everyone knows exactly when they can sit and watch with by themselves or with the family. Every one of those guys has a story background which helps explain the storyline of every video. finally the storytelling in sequence they do to wrap up past videos brings everything together for an exciting X minute video you can't click off.
Such a great breakdown, I always try to learn more about WTF I am doing. DP's editing is amazing, but as much as the logo is amazing for DP, I agree with the initial thoughts. Don't need it.
Just found your channel today and loving it whilst learning so much, so thank you! I actually like the 8 second logo, for me it built more excitement by allowing me to reflect on what I've already seen, and start to think about what is to come, which knowing Dude Perfect, will be awesome.

Excellent breakdown! Great points about the geography/location settings and characters. Surprised you didn't go crazy at the record scratch cut in the music at 11:13 :P

I think the logo is more a chance for the viewer to take a deep breath and brace for the ensuing chaos, it's also designed to reinforce their branding and to become an element return viewers will grow fondly familiar of, so in that sense it may be worth sacrificing a fraction of engagement to reinforce the dude perfect brand
I actually love this concept it’s like what Digital corridor has started with their Channel. It would be cool 😎 with the top trading videos say every few days or something
when the DP animation came up, hayden described exactly what i felt as a viewer. The 8-sec animation was a distraction to the video and it was sort of a buzzkill to the hype i got from the drone shots of the field at the start of the video. however, i think this is intentional. in that moment before the DP intro animation comes up, im already ready to watch the video, and in that moment of focus, im instead directed to look at their logo - Dude Perfect. i think its a good reminder of what you're watching. but by doing this, they're accepting the tradeoff that the viewer is less excited to watch because they were set up to expect the video to start, and instead they get an 8-second delay. but maybe that is a tradeoff worth it for them in terms of branding.
I have an editing class! Sign up here: hayden-hillier-smith.mykajabi.com/edit-like-an-artist

I try all your tips on my videos! Great channel! I think music is so important!
when the DP animation came up, hayden described exactly what i felt as a viewer.
They want to engrave that logo inside your brain, and associate it with excitement built up from the beginning
Lila sent me here. Glad she did. Great master class! Thank you.

Saw this Channel from Peter MacKinnon's comment box, hope to see more interesting facts about video editing, more power!
Great video! I would say the logo was good for branding and lends to your point of relaxing the viewer
I think the intro is so cool it keeps people in the video
Learning so much here, thank you for making these videos!
