I do a quilted top with tinsilbrite inside, and denim from old jeans as the backing and binding. Binding doesn’t wear out and fray, and they don’t stick to the table if I put hot dishes on them. The best potholders I’ve ever had.
I loved this idea because it is exactly what I am looking at doing as a gift for my aunt who does my hair for free. She wants 9” potholders though because she has larger hands. It looks like I could probably do these standard 8” ones and add a 1/2” border on all sides. Thank you for the great video and inspiration!
I have some old towels that were my mom's. I wanted to repurpose them so I used them as a backing on pot holders. It is nice to see someone else doing the same thing.
Old hand or bath towels are also very useful for a batting replacement! (When you don’t need heat resistance of course) Like table runners, placemats, etc.
Thank you! This is a great gift idea for any season. Love the idea of the towel, too! This was a very inspiring video, and I appreciate your clear presentation!
Love this! My mom used towels to make quilted pot holders - I still have them, but we can no longer use them…. They are worn and my grandson burned his hand. I plan to make some with the quilted cotton, insulbrite and denim backings. I thought about even using my mom’s potholders and insulation in the sandwich.
Very good idea. I have some older towels I am not using bc I changed decor. I can repurpose them now. I never though to use towels. This would be a great Christmas gift to my neighbors.
My mother, her mother and aunts all quilted. My mother always made pot holders for all of us including my brother who cooked. She passed away in 2011 and I still have potholders but don't want to use them for sentimental reason.
I found it useful to put a loop of fabric to hang the pot holders. I bought a black S hook n put on handle of oven door handle n hang the potholders. They are just where I need them.
Thank you ever so much. I want to do this project. I love the fabrics and your light, breezy personality. Refreshing and fun!!! This is my first video of yours to see. I have subscribed. Your workspace is so pretty and user-friendly!
I love the 30's repro fabrics too. Thanks for the great instructions. My pot holders go in a drawer next to my stove so I prefer them to not have a hanging loop on them.
Most walking feet come with "J shaped arms" that slide in the back of the foot. You adjust the arm for your desired stitch line width. Then run the "J" along each previous stitch line. Continue this procedure until you reach the other side. Saves you from marking all your lines or moving tape each time you sew an additional line of quilting.💜
What a great video and I love your potholders! Such great gifts. Would you mind sharing where you got your towels? The design on the back is perfect for these, and I suspect it helps hold on to things.
This project is just in time for me. My potholders have gotten totally worn out. Using a towel as backing is a great idea. I've had plain terry cloth potholders that do grip pots well but by themselves are too thin. I'll pull them out from the closet and turn them into backing for new potholders.
I love the idea of using towels....I have some old ones that are frayed and starting to rip. I was trying to find a way to re-use, besides just cutting up into cleaning rags. Thank You!
I really like your potholders! I will make some this year for next Christmas using batik strips and a heavy towel that is like new, except for the dang bleach spot!
Love your idea of using towels for your potholders! I'm very new, as in only a few weeks, to any type of easy starter quilting projects. Would you mind posting what thickness of batting you used for your potholders? Thank you for sharing your ideas.
I’m glad I came across your video because I have so many towel scraps from sewing surf hoodies. Can you tell me the width of your binding? Also, what seam allowance did you use to sew your binding on? Was it 3/8” or 1/2”?
My stove is next to my fridge and I don't have much drawer space. So I hang mine from magnetic hooks on the side of my fridge. Handy in a hurry and I don't have to dig in a drawer nor step away from my cooking area. Love your designs.🎉
I love your demonstration for the pot holder! So Cute!! I will add this to my list for Christmas gifts this year! Thank you! Also, I love all your cat quilts on your instagram page!
This is an awesome tutorial and idea for a quick gift. I cannot wait to try this out. Can you use any nice thick bath towel or does it have to be the waffly weave?
I love the idea of the cotton terry backing, but these are not really safe as potholders for gifts without insulbrite or some other heat resistant batting inside. If you make it for yourself, then you know to be more careful, otherwise these are adorable giant coasters/mug rugs.
How do you join the beginning and ending ends, on such a short side? When I join ends on a quilt, I generally leave about 10-12 inches for the join. Is there a trick when doing pot holders? Thanks!
I really enjoyed this project. I have made a few potholders in the past, but I like the idea of the cotton towel backing. Could you please tell me something about the quilt behind you? I love the fabric and the pattern. :o)

Awesome use for recycling those jeans that don’t fit any more!!
❤
Great idea. ❤️
Thanks! now I know what do do with that piece of denim I've had for deacdes.
Great idea and probably sturdy too 😊
Never thought of using bath towels as backing. I like that idea.

A layer cake would also work.
Love the idea of using towels as backing

I love your towel idea. I think I’ll add a layer of Insul-bright to mine though. Very cute!
After seeing the pot holders you made, I want to make one too. Thanks for share your ideas with us.
Thank you for this demonstration. The towel backing is a great idea, and I love the tip about using a border around stars.
This is very informative. Goofing to a quilt retreat in late March and starting on Christmas gifts for family. Will use this info!
I didn't realize how easy it was to log cabin these squares! Thank you!
I always use a layer of insulate and a layer of light batting . My pot holders hold up for many washes and many years.
What a fantastic idea and so quick too …thank you for this video it was ace
Thank you! This is a great gift idea for any season. Love the idea of the towel, too! This was a very inspiring video, and I appreciate your clear presentation!
Excellent project for young quilters, my 12 year old grandaughter made on perfectly!
I truly enjoyed watching you. I loved the idea of using a towel. Thank you!

Thank you Amanda. Love your pot holders and the fact that they are very doable for my level of sewing, now to find some cute fabrics and towels!
Very good idea. I have some older towels I am not using bc I changed decor. I can repurpose them now. I never though to use towels. This would be a great Christmas gift to my neighbors.
Exciting ! I love your potholders! I would love to visit your kitchen too ! 😉❤
Love the idea of using the towel! Thanks for sharing!!
Cute pot holders! Yes I do want to make a entire stack 😉thanks for sharing ❤
My mother, her mother and aunts all quilted. My mother always made pot holders for all of us including my brother who cooked. She passed away in 2011 and I still have potholders but don't want to use them for sentimental reason.
Thank you very much. Great tutorial. Love the potholders. Definitely going make some as gifts.
There are so adorable and the towel? Great idea. Thank you.
Amanda...beautiful potholders...lovely Christmas gift...thanks...best wishes and happy stitching ❤❤
Love this hadn't thought to use toweling. Great idea!
Love this! Thank you, I plan to make some log cabin potholders for friends for Christmas.
❤so cute .I have started cut my scrap pieces already . Love the towel backing . So enjoyable 😊 . Thanks for sharing .
I found it useful to put a loop of fabric to hang the pot holders. I bought a black S hook n put on handle of oven door handle n hang the potholders. They are just where I need them.
Thank you so much I love your patterns. I needed something new to quilt for gifts at Christmas. God bless you
Your potholders look great. I never thought of using a cotton towel for the backing!❤
Brilliant idea with the towel!
Lori Holt's Bee Vintage, just as a reminder to myself. Thank you for the neat video and ideas!
Thank you ever so much. I want to do this project. I love the fabrics and your light, breezy personality. Refreshing and fun!!! This is my first video of yours to see. I have subscribed. Your workspace is so pretty and user-friendly!
I like the idea of using painters tape. Thanks for sharing
Old style potholders had loops so they could hang from magnetic hooks on the sides of the refrigerator! Made them readily accessible. 💕
I love the 30's repro fabrics too. Thanks for the great instructions. My pot holders go in a drawer next to my stove so I prefer them to not have a hanging loop on them.
Thanks for the video. I like the simple designs you chose!

Thank you so much for sharing! Love your video.....very inspiring!!! I appreciate you! 🥰
Love these. Also, “Your house looks like my grandma’s!” is #GOALS
What a great video and I love your potholders! Such great gifts. Would you mind sharing where you got your towels? The design on the back is perfect for these, and I suspect it helps hold on to things.

Beautiful, thank you. Love the idea of the thick cotton towel.
So cute and wonderful can’t wait to get started. Thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you for sharing this cute and useful project. ❤
Love how you teach and present beautiful projects like this! ❤
Super cute! So going to make them for my daughter and DIL!! Great tips!
I love the idea of using towels....I have some old ones that are frayed and starting to rip. I was trying to find a way to re-use, besides just cutting up into cleaning rags. Thank You!
I learned so much from this video. I’m new to sewing. Definitely going to make some of these pot holders. ❤
Loved this entire video, thank you!! I'm so inspired to make pot holders!
Love the vintage look pot holders, good idea to use the cotton towels
Your shirt is so cute and I absolutely need to make new potholders for my new home!!
I love the idea of a thick cotton bath towel as backing.
I really like your potholders! I will make some this year for next Christmas using batik strips and a heavy towel that is like new, except for the dang bleach spot!
Oh I love this idea! Especially scrapy!
Love your Pot Holder demo. Can’t wait to make pot holders to really use and give for gifts. I love practical gifts.
Super cute!!! Thanks Amanda!!!

Love it!! Can't wait to make some ❤
I will use insulbrite but I love the towel idea. Thank you that’s a great tutorial.
I love this towel as a backing. I will try QAYG technique. Thanks
Love these pot holders. Thank you for sharing your pattern. Also love that quilt behind you. Is there a kit or pattern for that?
I love this idea, but don't you need some insulbrite to keep your hands from getting burnt?
Thank you! I love pot holders without loops
Loved your content. Planning on making them. Only wished you would have gone over how to trim it out. Especially the corners.
Very cute pot holders. Thank you. 💕
I believe even with batting and towel back it’s a must to use insul brute to keep from burning self!
Lovely idea, great tips too.
I do not have drawer space, so I hand sew a small ring to a corner to hang. It's small enough, so it doesn't get in the way.

Great ideas I'll make some for hospitality gifts.
I love your blouse! It’s so pretty.
Love your potholders but I Would have loved to see how you sew binding on potholders - showing how you did mitred corners
I would like to see how you added the trim also.
Nice work as always!
I like the idea of using terry on the back. It would add to the insulation.
Wouldn't a layer of insulate batting help with the heat of the oven?
I was wondering the same thing…
I agree. I've purchased pot holders that didn't have that & the heat came through & burned my hand.
Yes it would, I use the insulating batting to make cozzies . It can be microwaved also
Good thinking!
according to the Warm Company who makes Insul-Bright, it is not recommended for the microwave. Maybe you’ve found another product that is.
Love Love Love these ❤
Great tutorial and info - sooo cute too. Thank you :)
I love your demonstration for the pot holder! So Cute!! I will add this to my list for Christmas gifts this year! Thank you! Also, I love all your cat quilts on your instagram page!
Great gift idea
Just gorgeous. Thank you. I have so much trouble with binding, can you help?
This is an awesome tutorial and idea for a quick gift. I cannot wait to try this out. Can you use any nice thick bath towel or does it have to be the waffly weave?
I like the towel idea. I'll pick an extra one up at the thrift store.
My grandmother's potholders always had towels on back. Now I understand why
Love this tutorial and the star caution, but could you have done the binding?
I love the idea of the cotton terry backing, but these are not really safe as potholders for gifts without insulbrite or some other heat resistant batting inside. If you make it for yourself, then you know to be more careful, otherwise these are adorable giant coasters/mug rugs.
Thwnk u for the vidro....Love the cutting mat and ruler where can I find them
I absolutely love the silver ring on your middle finger… would you be able to tell me where you got this ring? Thanks!
We used to put cut up bath towels inside.
Beautiful loved it

Came to ask the same thing!
Me too! @rileyblakedesigns - can you help?
I've always been told to use Insul-Brite insulated batting for potholders, mits, etc. Does regular batting work just as well?
I love these pot holders but feel safer adding insulate in with them.
Cute potholders.
