Thanks Tom. My grandfather has aged to the point where he can't take care of his rural lands as he should so I need to drive around my family's property and record video so that they can all see what is overgrown and needs to be tended to. I've learned a lot watching this particular video. Thumbs UP!!
Wonderful work Tom, as always. Very impressed with the quality of your videos and the information provided. Simple and right to the point. You are a young guy with a promising future, be sure.

For all of you wondering if you can just take the phone with you: Yes, that is possible (Android only) but a little complicated. What you need is a second phone with GPS. There are GPS routing apps available that you can set up. This way, you take one phone in your pocked, that phone records the GPS and sends it to the second phone. The second phone is connected to the RC and uses the GPS data from the phone in your pocked. Hope that helps... Safe flight!
Many thanks. Excellent content, excellent video, excellent steps and hints. I have benefited from your other tuts as well. After checking your donate page, I notice you put in roughly one hour's work for every minute of video runtime. One of the secrets to quality, I guess.
Can I make the quadcopter fly in front of my position? - like when I am sailing my boat I would like footage of the boat from the front moving forwards through the water...
Great Video! I am seriously thinking about ordering one of the DJI Phantom Drones. I love the quality of the videos... I hope its not really hard to get a hang of...
Great tutorial, thank you for posting, planning on using the follow me mode to be able to film some neighborhoods so will be experimenting with speed, height and gimbal angle to keep the vehicle out of the shot...any advise?
With the newest update to the DJI app there is now a button that appears on the left side of the screen to access the follow me feature. So, toggle F-mode, hit button on left side of screen under the auto-land & auto-takeoff, agree to terms of follow me stuff, then happy flying!
That was nice how did you record the actual DJI GO app screen ..? Thumbs up from me, I'm waiting for the w/x to improve so that I can go out and fly :)
Good video but you didn't talk about the distance function that is available with the right stick ! With the right stick you can control the distance between you and the quadcopter
Hello Tom, appreciate your tutorials and great information. My suggestion which hopefully this turn out to be good comments for your viewers and for yourself. First, the sunglasses on your head have to be removed. 2nd, speak at the normal speed. You don’t want your audience to be dazzled on chasing your talk. Pause at the end of your sentences and in this way won’t appear mumbled. Hope this helps.
Thank you good Tom. Can you instruct the drone to follow your phone or must if film the big controller device in your hands. Or is there an optional add on so you don't have to film the actor which such a huge device?
I am looking into buying a Dji Phantom 3 and need to buy a tablet to go along with it. I would like to be able to use the Follow me mode which leads me to ask you which tablet did you use when doing the "how to use follow-me mode"
Great video., I really enjoy watching and learning from your videos. Question for you. I have a IPad 3 mini wifi version only. If i toggle my android phone to be a hot spot with GPS on, can I use my phone as a link to the Ipad in order for the DJI P3 to follow me?. Thanks, Rick
+Rick Kremer I thought of that question as well already, but didn't test that yet. I think because the positioning of the Phantom mainly depends on location services (as GPS and Glonass) it won't work out well, but maybe you can give it a try and report here or on Facebook (facebook.com/groups/tomstechtime)? Stay tuned and fly safe!
thanx for the tutorial, but what would happen if the copter is following u and u climbed a hill ? will it keep the altitude 10m from u or it will stay in the previous altitude ?
N'th DEGREE DRONE when you switch modes it is switching from P-GPS (which stands for position GPS) to F-GPS (which stands for function GPS). It still stays very stable
Hello , congratulations on the channel , I am unable to activate follow me function of the following error: No sensor is found on the mobile device.Cannot integrate IMU data. What is the problem ?
Hi Tom, I was wondering for example, let's say that I'm on a boat that is moving. On P-GPS mode the home position will be were I took off. But If I switch to F-Mode and activate the Follow Me function, do you think that the Home position will keep updating to were I currently be? and then when I need to land I could stop the boat and switch back to P-GPS and to get the quad closer to me press the RTH button then cancel the RTH and land it by myself? What do you think? I know is a bit risky but I think I could take wonderful and nice images of were we are sailing. BTW, your tutorials are the best! I always look at them before flying. Thanks a lot! Regards from Argentina. Martin.
+Martin Sadofschi The Home Point will simply move with you if you choose "My Position". But take care. If the connection brakes down, it might land behind you. But in most cases, if it comes close, you could take control and land it yourself. Stay tuned and fly safe!
+Tom's Tech Time ohh great! good idea! I've now found that if you press the bubble "H" on the screen controller you can change the home possition to: - Where the aircraft currently is - Where the controller is right now (GPS needed) Regards! Martin

at after 5:50, can you make it navigate left and right, like you're doing a wakesurfing, and let the drone cover you from left and right?
Seems like a pretty cool feature! Can't wait to try it out

ColGadarby I was thinking of the same thing. Like Lily Drone's "Lead Mode". I was also hoping it can also do a "loop mode" as well.

If a Phantom falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
yes
lolllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Yes the sound of my wallet crying!
King Parodije my teacver asked me the same question.
Thanks "Normal Dude" you made that look easy. I'm off to try it out.
Great Job!
wanted to know how you can get the dji to circle around you in follow me mode
i subscribed & liked your video :) i have a DJI spark but i cant find the intelli fly modes (or advanced settings)
Thanks tom! Nothing in the manual about this!

Good video!
Can You Do This With P3 Standard? Also Great Video!

Hey Tom,
If you were to use the sticks to circle the car will the camera still follow by rotating the copter?
Very Useful!
Drone fallows you only if you have the remote or you can set up to fallow someone else?
thanx for the tutorial, but what would happen if the copter is following u and u climbed a hill ? will it keep the altitude 10m from u or it will stay in the previous altitude ?
Good info!
If you use the Internet wifi 3 g on the iPad mini 3 does interfere with the phantom ? Thanks
while you messing with flight modes is the copter still locked in GPS mode or will it drift with wind as soon as you flip your switches?
That's actually a really good question that could do with an answer. Tom do you know the answer to this please?
N'th DEGREE DRONE when you switch modes it is switching from P-GPS (which stands for position GPS) to F-GPS (which stands for function GPS). It still stays very stable
Scooty Man q
Is this the pro or standard phantom tested in this video?
Hello , congratulations on the channel , I am unable to activate follow me function of the following error:
No sensor is found on the mobile device.Cannot integrate IMU data.
What is the problem ?
this is NOT for Phantom 4. The app icons and software is totally different.
