"genshin has content, it just does not have content you want to do" THIS is the truest thing someone ever said. what i realized is that a lot of people who say "genshin has no content" are the ones who are extremely focused on fighting/combat and dont really care that much about the lore/story or even exploring and when it comes to fighting, i agree - genshin really does lack conent here t BUT that does not mean genshin has no content at all, genshin has lots of content - just not the content you are interested in.

THANK YOU. it's genuinely frustrating how many people don't understand this. the amount of people i've seen complain about genshin being "boring," and having "nothing to do", when in reality they just don't care about 50% of what the game offers. like, of course, that's fine, and you don't NEED to 100% everything. but if you're only playing a game for one or two certain aspects, the very least you can do is acknowledge that it doesn't end there for everyone else.
your personal preferences have nothing to do with a game being objectively "good" or "bad".

Just wanted to add a bit on the music, as a classically trained music student, Fontaine is a treasure trove of historical Western music references! There is a lot of stuff there if you know what to listen for. You can hear Baroque-style pieces (there’s a specific Baroque style fugue that is the theme for the Palais Mermonia that I love), pieces modeling off of the Classical era, Romantic pieces as well, in particular piano songs that are very much reminiscent of famous French piano composers of that era (there’s a specific piece that has a clear reference to Satie’s “Gymnopedie no. 1”). There are even songs that emulate earlier musical eras like early Baroque and Renaissance, which I personally appreciated a lot because they tend to not get as much of the spotlight despite having very beautiful repertoire in their own right. It was such a treat to be able to hear pieces using historical instruments like the lute and harpsichord!!
Aaaanyways this is all to say that Genshin’s music is great about everywhere but I enjoyed Fontaine’s in particular because it was soooo much fun being able to identify a lot of their musical inspirations (aka I’m biased). But I agree that Sumeru music is damn amazing and I’m sure it’s just as dense with cultural musical references as Fontaine is, even though I probably don’t have the knowledge to spot even half of them lol.

    • @natalies8498
      @natalies8498 Месяц назад +3

THIS!!! I hadn't expected what we got in Fontaine, but I should have knowing that it's really centered around western European (particularly French) influences! And this is me who LOVES the more cultural influences in the other regions (my general soft spots are for Liyue and Sumeru), but then Fontaine came along and made the classical music enthusiast in me SO HAPPY.

MarcoMeatball’s is something I would expect after he got burned by the community. I was surprised to hear it after how much he used to like the music.
And I also think it’s wrong, Genshin has a very very strong identity. I could sit down listen to a hundred Video game songs and pick out which are Genshin. Also, OST’s have a lot of identity with their region, and their regions have different influences. That’s why the music is so varied and may lack a coherent identity for some people.

I agree with this so much. Honestly no other open world game gives that magical feel like Genshin does. I think it has a lot to do with their focus being on an artistic side than a pure gameplay side. Like when we reached Fontaine and they copied from French artists to give it that water color feel. I was stunned to see so many beautiful scenes. Any time you see concept art of environments from them it tends to look almost identical in game. The music really adds to the scenes you stumble across, and the characters really fit the environments they're based in. I'm so excited for Natlan because of this.

Iirc Enkanomiya wasn’t done by YPC. Die Midsommersnacht Fantasie too wasn’t done by him (YPC is credited though since it uses Fischl’s leitmotif). And ofc Fontaine, Remuria and Chenyu Vale all have fantastic music and all of these regions came out after YPC had left.
I love Yu Peng Chen and his music, but there’s so much talent in the Hoyo mix team besides him.

But yeah, he def switched up just cause he didn’t like how the community reacted. If you look at any of his earlier videos he was really engaged with the music. He also has double standards for Genshin.
He likes some electronic but not in Genshin. And he tends to appreciates it more when he hears it in context. But also says that music shouldn’t need context. Which is kind of stupid, when in other videos he says, ‘with context this really isn’t as bad as you think it is’

I obviously can´t speal for him, but what I took his comment for is this: "Genshin music is good (from a technical pov), it sounds good (pleasent to the ears) and is coherent in itself (leitmotifs for different regions, characters etc.). However there are just some games that have more "overarching identity" in their musical composition and feel more coherent because of it."
On one hand, Genshin is great for incorpeating some many different styles/influences, but if your musical reportoire involves everything under the (book of) sun (and moon), then having a track that sounds Genshin 1000% may be a bit more rare. (which I honestly mostly agree with)
Weird example, but I am a huge fan of the original MW2 and it´s soundtrack, Hans Zimmer did an amazing job (shocker, I know). Every last track in the game has something that connects it to the others, be it instruments, motifs or the scale of feelings evoked. If I hear a track from the MW2 OST, I know what it is from.
I also listen to Genshin music on a daily basis and therefore I can´t speak "objectively" to any of this, but as much as tracks share something in common, if you gave some of the lesser known ambiance tracks, I would think to myself: "this is great, is this Genshin, or could it be from another fantasy game? "
Point being, if your goal is doing everything, being known for something specific becomes a bit more rare (which then again is different from person to person as always).
That´s what I interpreted it as anyways ^^

@@Nemesis-in8kr Makes sense. But I also think that Genshin’s thing “is” doing everything.
I think it’s also really important to understand that there are multiple composers, earlier stuff is done by Yu-Peng Chen as well as a bunch of other people. We can’t expect to have the same style with different people.
Also some music is just ambience. And that is perfectly fine. Players don’t need to hear a theme for every single thing they do or place they go. But the places that do tell a story are special, think Enka, Stormterrors lair, and Chasm. These places are bigger than any one person. And what happened there overrides the players presence. And the music reflects this.
Fontaine, being the new region, has some of the most melodic music in the game, Remuria has bangers that make me tear up. ‘Glory and Decay’ as well as ‘The Last Rose of the Sinner’ from the second Fontaine album.

Like something totally unrelated to Genshin like lets say Wharammer 40K in wich I'm invested a lot like the thing with it's lore is that you HAVE to look up for a lot of stuff and almost nothing is exposed at you right away troughout various media (it being video games, book, figurines etc) . And I love that yk like being a resarcher that doesn't know what mysteries he's about to discover. Same for Star Wars too for me with how big the universe is and I have a lot more exemples like in the end lore if it's deepend enough, is rarely meant to bee shoved down to your face in my opinion and that's fine tbh. And the minimum needed to understand some concepts in the AQ are explained fairly well but can be a bit difficult sometimes and abstract (I like these aspects personnaly). Like people saying it's completly hidden are factually wrong (like I ain't making any assumptions) with how it's exposed in the teasers (people forgetting the whole ass minute in the Natlan trailer at the end showing the primordial flame and the enigmatic stuff Mavuika says) , AQ, demo's and trailers. And on the other hand those saying that too much is hidden with the beggining of my point I think you understand why that's a non issue this time in MY opinion.
      2. Very true I liked that and also with the aimer animated short it made them even more precious to me. 😢

Jokes aside. I feel the problem is that ultimately, these people don't like the kind of story that Genshin presents. But they conflate the idea of "not liking the story" with "story/writing is bad"
Genshin's (and both Honkai games, so most of Hoyo games) story touches on abstract and complex concepts. They like to present multiple perspectives and twists and try to challenge our understanding of the concept in the context of the game's setting(like Justice in Fontaine, or Wisdom in Sumeru). But some people just want a simple "badass hero saves the day" kind of story - which is indeed what is comes down to in most quests. So to them all that other story bits about "What really is Wisdom" is just fluff and yapping. This is just the extreme of that group, but the logic can be generalized.

Frankly I find Fontaine’s main theme very melodic and not at all atmospheric, where as there are a few overworks tracks that by nature of their inspo, could be called atmospheric, but if you listen they have as much melody as any other piece, it is just a different style of music. Every region is a different style of music. But coming from a varied musical background I tend to enjoy a lot of different styles. Here's my hot take. Genshin's take on culture is FINE as it is, because it IS fictional and and while INSPIRED by real-world cultures they are NOT those cultures. I don't know of any real-world state ruled over by an eternal warlord, or an ethnicity of people made from primordial seawater instead of blood in their bodies. Teyvat's culture represents Teyvat's culture, and Teyvat has its own laws. Representation isn't a primary focus, but derivatives are. Like seeing a painting of an image someone saw in a dream. It ISN'T the same, but it can evoke similar feelings as it. Trying to completely tie down a fictional world to real-life when it's not supposed to be tied down in such a way ruins part of the magic. If I wanted to experience completely German culture instead of Mondstadt's, I'd play a game based in Germany. If I wanted to experience a French culture, I'd play a game based in France. Not Fontaine. They are similar, but they are not the same, have never claimed to be, and cannot be held to the same rulings. If you wanna see how hard that can backfire, just look at AC: Shadows.

Lack of dialog skip option is a player retention feature. Most people will not stop playing the game because of lack of it, while there will be players who will stay longer with the game because they got caught in the story which they would otherwise blindly skip through start to end.

I mean even right now we already have people like that, quite a lot, but adding skip button will just make it worse. I really don't want online Genshin community to be another Fortnite by filling players who only play for trend and rush everything, and then say, "this game is bad", when they literally skip everything, the game is good on, or they're never the target audience. Maybe the skip button should only exist in commission quest.

They were confused as to why Furina would be dying if she's an archon, saying she's "half" archon, asking for "evidence" that she's "now" a human (as if the fxxking archon quest doesn't exist), saying that her being able to age now is sad (even though the immortality was a curse), and even more braindead takes

Idk if you played witcher 3 but if you did you'll understand perfectly if you compare their storytelling aspect. Genshins biggest problem with storytelling is how much bloated and worthless dialogues it contains. We got a repeater flying blob we gotta listen random npcs problems that we dont give a f about and has no relevance to the story (but they exist cause they gotta stall the story) and then youll get exhausted by the story when you dont even get to the good stuff.
Fontaine had this issue too if you cut the stalling sequences from the archon quest meropide wouldnt be that trash to play same goes for desert for sumeru and so on. Genshin has to shorten their quests to not make people sick of listening about worthless dialogues but well sadly ig the devs are forced to make one act a 5 hour. Even hsr had this issue too with penacony ending. They repeated a bird question two or three times iirc and made people bored of it and had a long pinball sequence tied to story but had no relevance to the story. I think its a hoyo issue and at this point i dont think theyll ever improve on that tbh.
Tldr: too much dialogue for too little story (does not apply to last act of aq but applies too all others)

Catalyst is a versatile elemental application
    Sword is an all-rounder
    Polearm is fast attack

Yups I was thinking from a game mechanics standpoint, there's almost no area another weapon type would fill - It would just be different animations.
That's because there's not much general mechanics that is NOT the elemental system. There's no differences in knockback, or a general block mechanic, or a general stun mechanic. So if they're bringing in how other games does it, that's how - different general mechanics that allow more variances. But adding an entirely new horizontal core mechanic at this point of the game changes the balance of everything and the game-focus. These kinds of things have to be designed in from the beginning.

I love genshin music, and I feel like why everyone was like Genshin Music peaked in Sumeru" Is because of how unique it is. Fontaine is a european region, heavily inspired by France, the UK, and Spain. This means for most of the music, we tend to be more used to it as music tends to take on a eurocentric view(Just look at the common band or strings instruments). This obviously has a lot to do with the influence of the west and stuff. Most of us do not regularly listen to Middle Eastern/Southern Asian music, so hearing that would obviously be new, fresh, and unique for most of us. Also, Hoyoverse mixes the common instruments like violin, violoncello, or trumpet and clarinets with the traditional insturments of that region. That is a unique combination for Middle eastern and southern asian instruments with the common ones hence why it sounds so nice. Also has to do with how the music team is awesome and can compose and arrange amazing. Overall, Fontaine is still banger, but some people tend to "over-trash" on it and call it bad. That's fine, everyone is subject to their own opinions, but if you have something fresh and beautiful like Sumeru before something we're more used to in Fontaine it would obviously make Fontaine look 'bad'. (think of someone doing an absolutely amazing presentation right before you, and even though your presentation is good, it makes you look bad to go after that)

Corina(Paimon's VA) had once said in her livestream that she only had like 4hrs a day to herself during the recording of the Fontaine archon quests. Combine that with the events and all the story quests that she has to voice in simultaneously and considering that the world quests are literally sometimes even bigger than the Archon quests I don't think it's really possible unless they kind of balance it out between the traveller and Paimon lines or just voice them in the important stuff without making it feels weird

Not every weapon is gonna have something that can interchange it with another weapon, but making characters use weapons in unique ways, like Wriothesley's gauntlets enhanced as a ceyo catalyst, or Arlecchino's scythe being an enhanced polearm makes it just as interesting (yes I know Arle has a specific weapon, but still just an example of what it could be)

I think that Mondstadt's music suffers due to the overabundance of classic orchestral music being used in games, movies, tv shows and what have you. Someone from a musical background can appreciate the nuances in it better, but for most people it sounds like stuff they've heard before and never paid attention to, so they aren't incentivised to pay attention to it. By contrast, a musical styles like Liyue's and Sumeru's stand out because they aren't something we hear that often in media, and Fontaine has an operatic focus to classic music that isn't as popular.

I have learned to love Genshin's exploration in Fontaine. I used to use Interactive Map to make sure I don't miss stuff and RUclips to solve puzzles. Nowadays, I prefer to explore the region organically. Walk around, surprise yourself of a chess or puzzle that you have not found before. Try to solve the puzzles yourself before consulting with guides on RUclips. I'm now addicted to leveling up the "tree" after said exploration. There was that one time when I have way too much currency than the "fountain" allow me to level up. That was a painful wait over several patches where the fountain level was capped at 40 and no one is talking about it. It puts a damper on my exploration fix during those patches.
The thing I hate most is expansion to Liyue but using the same Geo currency with no more tree to level up. That is just cruel. The only thing I can exchange for those are just mora. Not something I look forward to while exploring and solving puzzles.

The reason also applies to Energy Amplifer, I despise that event for the reason that if you want all the goodies, you have to play it on the hardest difficulty, make getting certain awards easier

If there’s a controversial opinion I have, as a person of color myself(half German and Thai, and living in Paraguay South America), I don’t think the skin tones of the natlan characters are that bad or that off from Native American or Polynesian.
It’s not as bad as people say it is.
I’m not defending every design, but I’m definitely defending Xilonen, kachina, iansan and mualani.
Sure, darker skin tones are always appreciated, but I don’t particularly think a light tan necessarily ruins the designs or the representation of culture, after all the other things the game has represented well.

I play Genshin for the story, characters, and exploration. I did do genius invocation for a while but I quit that mode cause it started feeling like a chore. Not to mention that it won’t benefit me outside of tcg.

one of the coolest things wuwa do is that they actually teach you how to use characters. they added their roles describings and have TUTORIAL with every button and combo showed. Genshin, take notes.

I think people who constantly and only complain about the reward from quests are very annoying. I personally believe that part of the reward is the quest it’s self, you play the quests for the story not solely for the rewards. That still goes even for people who don’t like playing the quests. There are other better means of getting rewards, the stories are there for the lore. You shouldn’t expect much from them imo

14:03 I remember being on hoyolab and seeing a post where someone turned every character up to 3.0 into colorful lines all condensed into the shape of rectangles for each character and said to guess the character, and the fact that I was able to guess all but 2 of them from just COLORFUL LINES is absolutely wild and just proves that tweet's point about the character designs being so distinct.

9:49 i agree with this. they've already started to do this like how you showed Mika using a crossbow in his skill, and also there's Clorinde and Chevreuse who both use guns, technically there's Klee with her bombs, there's Arle's scythe, Sigwinne's syringe, Wriothesley's gauntlets, and stuff like that.

Personally the thing I don't like about Wuva, is that they copied the Genshin daily/pull system but in the worse version than current Genshin, you have to do the dailies manually to complete them, unlike Genshin, and the pull system is literally 1:1 copypaste with the currency requirements and welkin etc

My hot take is: the game DOES have hard content, it's just that the veteran players go overboard with the crazy good artifacts, but it's good that the choice to be OP is there.
I've been playing for a year now, and I'm still nowhere near the level of "why is *everything* in this game so easy". Yeah, I can clear most of the main content with ease. But the endgame modes and sometimes even the highest tier rewards in limited combat events give me trouble.
Admittedly, I don't maximise the potential of my characters. I only max out the talents, levels and weapons, but as for the artifacts, I just don't have the energy and patience to spend my entire lifetime getting the perfect set, y'know? If a week of farming results in nothing but a horrible CR circlet, then I guess that's all I have. If I end up with a 30/90 crit ratio, I just take it.
Your artifact stats and choices of 5-stars are probably much, much better than mine. However, it's always *your* choice to farm up the best sets, or to get the most broken characters. And I think that's fine.
The game gives you the *choice* to obtain artifacts, characters and weapons that are significantly above average, and rewards you for that by giving you significant strength.
On the other hand, if you don't aim for getting the best of the best, you end up with moderately difficult content.
As for whether it *is* actually good or not that the game lets you get so OP, well - that's a balancing issue, and game balance is kiiiinda difficult when it's a live service game we're talking about.

abt the skip button thing, i agree with u that if u don't like the feature, don't use it. tho keep it a few clicks away than just one click because imma be scared for people who are playing an archon quest and accidently click skip button. maybe keep it in the interface where the dialogue logs are and then in a corner there's gonna be an option the skip the dialogue. Once you skip a dialogue, A pop-up can give a summarization of the dialogue. If I'm correct, this feature is in zzz aswell (I don't play zzz so correct me If I'm wrong)
