I enjoyed watching Static Shock as a kid, but it was years later as an adult that I finally realized the important lessons the show was teaching us. It only made me appreciate the show even more
I love Static Shock and I was in my 30’s when it came out. I even used an idea from it help my son with dyslexia. Knowing he might inherit it from me, I taught him the sign language alphabet as a toddler.
I was in my teens when I first started watching it, but I enjoyed it throughout its run. The episode about bullying did get me pretty hard, mainly due to me having been bullied myself, though I never went as far as portrayed in that episode (admittedly, the thought did cross my mind once, but I was too scared to go through with it). It did give me extra perspective about the subject, and while I cannot say whether or not it definitively helped, I did notice that the bullying more-or-less stopped after that.
The number of lessons in that show was insane. The cw and many other superhero properties could learn a lesson from static shock about combining social awareness with great storytelling.
6:27 Virgil is loved here in Brazil, all people from my generation grew up watching that series. And, believe me, he is one of the most loved DC characters in our Country. It's a shame that it didn't receive the world wide attention that it deserve.
It’s a shame there was never a crossover episode with Static Shock and the Teen Titans cause it would’ve been awesome to see a fight between Raven and Ebon.
He joined the Teen Titans in the comics, but it was with a different version from the ones we know on TV. It was a different Robin, Wonder Girl, Miss Martian, and a few other characters.
@@mprattyh3 Personally, I want to see him return with his Milestone Comic or Static Shock personality and background, because his Young Justice appearance was appalling. He should scale to Kryptonians and has the thinking capability of Peter Parker, but even he was depressing in that season.
The reason for the underutilization of Icon and Static has to do with the passing of their creator Dwayne McDuffie. While DC did purchase the rights to the characters after their acquisition of Milestone Comics Dwayne made sure to maintain part ownership. This was fine while he was alive and working for DC Entertainment, but after his passing DC has run into difficulties dealing with his estate. As for the reason Icon, Static and Rocket even appear in Young Justice is because Dwayne was a showrunner who signed off on their use meaning that they can still appear on the show.

I seriously don't understand why Lobo doesn't get enough attention! He's such an awesome character, I love how different he is from all the other DC characters. He's almost as strong as superman, He can regenerate from practically any injury. He's an expert bounty hunter, and really he just does whatever he wants. I would give anything for a live action or animated Lobo series. It think it would be so cool!
Stephanie Brown is someone who I wish would get more love. The girl been around for thirty years. And yet despite being Tim's main love interest (Screw whoever decided to break them up off panel to push the bi route btw) and the third Batgirl has received nothing outside the comics she hasnt had anything outside of her appearances in YJ. (Which she has done nothing of note) Say what you will about BoP butchering Cass, at least she's had something. Steph has gotten nothing either as Spoiler or Batgirl.
Stephanie also was Robin for a short time, taking over for Tim Drake (the third Robin) after his secret identity had been revealed. Tim later reclaimed the mantle of Robin. I agree she should get more love on screen and in the comic books.
Cassandra and Stephanie have their own ongoing title rn so thats something at least. And for a time Cassandras been a prominent character in dc rebirth comics concerning the bat family but yeah, stephanies been pushed to the side more often.
Fire should get her own movie or series with her partner Ice, Fire & Ice. If Static gets his own film in DCEU, his best friend and crime fighting partner Gear should b there. I would also like to c more of Mari McCabe aka Vixen, with her showing mystical animal powers. For in 1 Justice League comic (related to the 2000’s show), she uses the fire breath of a dragon.
Vixen did get her own animated film that was canon to the now cancelled Arrowverse that covered her origin and first major fight to explain her appearance in the various Arrowverse shows namely Arrow and The Flash.

Along having Spell Casting to match the 70's series and Smallville when trying to make Clark Osiris.
Kyle Rayner seriously needs more love. I would love to see him brought into Young Justice. The Green Lantern Lore is so rich it could offer literally new universes of possibilities.
I think all the green lanterns are super underrated expect Hal dc typically chooses Hal Jordan (or John and guysometimes ) there are a lot cool green lanterns that get overshadowed Like Simon, Jessica,rayner I wish dc could give Simon and Kyle some recognition insteading of Hal 24&7
I think that Zatanna Zatara one of the most powerful sorceresses in the dc comics who has been given multiple side appearances could hold down a movie all on her own because of her interesting profession, personality, backstory, unique power-set, lineage and history could become as amazing as endgame because she is so awesome if they build her up right.
How about Lobo? He's a fun character and can go toe to toe with the best of the League. And what about Shayera Hol, Hawkgirl? When was the last time she took center stage? The early 2000s, in a handful of episodes of Justice League Unlimited? She's a fun character that isn't an overpowered juggernaut like a lot of DC heroes, so we can relate to her and actually feel some emotion for her, trepidation over the potential success of her objectives.
Honestly sometimes it’s really hard being a Lobo or a Hawkgirl fan because Lobo was supposed to get his own spinoff series from krypton and Syfy didn’t pick it up, Sci-fi also didn’t pick up a potential hawkgirl or Hawkman series, Hawkman will be in the upcoming Black Adam movie but hawkgirl was also supposed to be in it and of course Hollywood and WB decided to change their minds ugh 😑

On some level I would say most of DC's vast collection of characters are underappreciated because they are not one of a small handful of characters that creators swarm to seemingly out of reflex... like Batman and Constantine.

Every hero and heroine needs more love. There are so many who are such great heroes but the majority haven’t been given the chance to shine in their full glory.
Starman, Amethyst, Shining Knight, The Shade, Nightshade, Lady Shiva, Huntress, Beowulf, Blackbriar Thorn, Shadowpact, Stalker, Vigilante, Nightmaster etc... each of whom have really interesting stories with crazy potential for film and tv, but none of them have anything in the work, beyond maybe a minor role in an upcoming show or film
@@markmagician2471 I'm talking about the original Vigilante, Greg Saunders, he's basically a cowboy crime fighter, with a simple but interesting story, I feel like there's potential there for a good neo-western thriller or something, like The Revenant meets No Country For Old Men, maybe even a trilogy like Eastwood's spaghetti westerns.
The Question and Huntress chemistry has potential for a great duo based on the JL:Unlimited show. They could really have a good movie series or tv series based on them. Another great character(s) I would add is Artemis Crock and her family.
Mr miracle is probably the most overlooked DC hero, one of the most overlooked atleast. Hawkman is as well, black Adam did him justice atleast. That’s the thing with DC is they need to utility’s more characters, heroes especially. Most of them are extremely well overlooked and have huge potential on the big screen.
I loved Static!! I enjoyed the crossovers with Static, Gear and the Justice League in the animated series. I'd like to see a live version of Static and Gear. I've been really bugging out about the idea of a Batman Beyond live movie for the longest time. I really enjoyed the animated series and the movies. I'd like to see The Spectre in a live movie as well. Kyle Rayner would be a great character to showcase as a Lantern. Remember in Superman the Animated series was shown. I really want a live Justice League Dark!!
I know most people know Barbara Gordon, but there are so many people who don't even know who Oracle is. She has a lot of potential, and the show that has showned her the most is Young Justice, and even there, she hasn't featured that much yet.
Black Orchid needs some more love especially given her connection to the elemental force of Nature known as The Green the only two times this plant-themed heroine has gotten any love and proper appearance in the comics was during the solo run that Neil Gaimen did, and JL: Dark which had as one of the supernatural themed team's main members a new iteration of Black Orchid named Alba Garcia.
The question is probably one of my favorite DC comics heroes. A classic detective, a badass martial artist, and has a classic wit. And I'm referring to Vic Sage

I'd love to see an Icon movie or TV show. I prefer to bring black characters to the forfront than rehash the same characters as another race, hence Icon being comparable to Superman, but still being an original character in tribute to Dwayne McDuffie.
Every time if, Jason Blood/ Etrigan The Demon. Is one Cartoon Network show like Justice League & Batman: The Brave and The Bold. I have to Watch! His may favorite demon AntiHero in DC COMIC.
And the Superior Underappreciated DC character is Donna Troy, she has been in comic for years and she keeps being replace with teenage wonder woman in animated series. Even Watch Mojo doesn't acknowledge her place on this list.
I think it's the magical heroes of DC that get overlooked the most. There needs to be a Justice League Dark series like they've said they were going to make. They need to get their asses in gear and make that damn movie

I would love NOTHING more than for a movie about Jason Blood/Etrigan. I don't know what kind of story would sell but if someone could make a story about the time between Jason being bound to Etrigan and the present DC timeline, I would be happy.
The Question is my #1. He was so good in JLU, though these days he would probably get appropriated as the mascot of Q Anon or something. Also want to see them finally get John Constantine right in live action.
Miss Martian has had a lot of big spots, she was one of the focus in Justice League Fatal Five. And yet you totally missed 2 count them 2 more who is totally underappreciated. Booster Gold, and The Creeper. Those 2 alone are more Underappreciated then most of these on this list, and Etregan being number one? He has been seen more times then some of the others, not to mention being in the DCEU, on multiple animated movies, but a live action one? that would be nice.

How about Wildcat? The character has been around since the golden age of DC but has been limited to just guest appearances in DC media for years up until CW's Stargirl. Hopefully we can get a justice society movie on the big screen so Wildcat can get the love the character deserves
I’m glad you mentioned Terry McGinnis because everyone was telling people why would we want a black Batman when we have Terry? He’s half Asian half Korean half European in other words he’s biracial so no need for a black Batman we already had a Batman of color for the past 20 years
The entire problem with this list is that they have to properly establish the core characters before they can introduce these lessor known ones. They don’t even need their own big movies (Superman, Batman etc) just consistency and connection to establish them because these side characters are all connected to the core
The thing with these characters is that it’s not people’s fault for under appreciating them but it’s DC’s fault for barley using these characters ever these characters are underexposed they’re not like batman for example so of course people wouldn’t talk about these characters a lot because there’s not enough screen time or content about them
Only need 1 of these. Static. That cartoon touched on so many social issues in a hard-hitting straight forward way that no other shows airing beside it would dare. Racism, bullying, trauma, homelessness, mental/physical abuse, school shootings, "justice" system, etc, and it covered these while still overall being a light hearted relatable show.
This is what I like about the show. Any shows today that put those social issues are done in a preachy way and forced. No characters are relatable. But Static Shock tackled it the right way and still told a story and made it entertaining.

Yeah Static and the others are caught in red tape but if the Static movie rumors are true they possibly got things cleared up and he’ll get more use

On some level I would say most of DC's vast collection of characters are underappreciated because they are not one of a small handful of characters that creators swarm to seemingly out of reflex... like Batman and Constantine.

Every hero and heroine needs more love. There are so many who are such great heroes but the majority haven’t been given the chance to shine in their full glory.
Phantom Girl needs more love.
Starman, Amethyst, Shining Knight, The Shade, Nightshade, Lady Shiva, Huntress, Beowulf, Blackbriar Thorn, Shadowpact, Stalker, Vigilante, Nightmaster etc... each of whom have really interesting stories with crazy potential for film and tv, but none of them have anything in the work, beyond maybe a minor role in an upcoming show or film

@@markmagician2471 I'm talking about the original Vigilante, Greg Saunders, he's basically a cowboy crime fighter, with a simple but interesting story, I feel like there's potential there for a good neo-western thriller or something, like The Revenant meets No Country For Old Men, maybe even a trilogy like Eastwood's spaghetti westerns.
I hope the Static Shock movie can somewhat live up to the incredible cartoon I watched as a teen.
The Question and Huntress chemistry has potential for a great duo based on the JL:Unlimited show. They could really have a good movie series or tv series based on them.
Another great character(s) I would add is Artemis Crock and her family.
John Constantine is my favorite hero and I love you shining the spotlight on Etrigan.
Mr miracle is probably the most overlooked DC hero, one of the most overlooked atleast. Hawkman is as well, black Adam did him justice atleast. That’s the thing with DC is they need to utility’s more characters, heroes especially. Most of them are extremely well overlooked and have huge potential on the big screen.
I loved Static!! I enjoyed the crossovers with Static, Gear and the Justice League in the animated series. I'd like to see a live version of Static and Gear. I've been really bugging out about the idea of a Batman Beyond live movie for the longest time. I really enjoyed the animated series and the movies. I'd like to see The Spectre in a live movie as well. Kyle Rayner would be a great character to showcase as a Lantern. Remember in Superman the Animated series was shown. I really want a live Justice League Dark!!

I know most people know Barbara Gordon, but there are so many people who don't even know who Oracle is.
She has a lot of potential, and the show that has showned her the most is Young Justice, and even there, she hasn't featured that much yet.

Black Orchid needs some more love especially given her connection to the elemental force of Nature known as The Green the only two times this plant-themed heroine has gotten any love and proper appearance in the comics was during the solo run that Neil Gaimen did, and JL: Dark which had as one of the supernatural themed team's main members a new iteration of Black Orchid named Alba Garcia.
The question is probably one of my favorite DC comics heroes. A classic detective, a badass martial artist, and has a classic wit. And I'm referring to Vic Sage

I'd love to see an Icon movie or TV show. I prefer to bring black characters to the forfront than rehash the same characters as another race, hence Icon being comparable to Superman, but still being an original character in tribute to Dwayne McDuffie.

Miss Martian has had a lot of big spots, she was one of the focus in Justice League Fatal Five. And yet you totally missed 2 count them 2 more who is totally underappreciated. Booster Gold, and The Creeper. Those 2 alone are more Underappreciated then most of these on this list, and Etregan being number one? He has been seen more times then some of the others, not to mention being in the DCEU, on multiple animated movies, but a live action one? that would be nice.

How about Wildcat? The character has been around since the golden age of DC but has been limited to just guest appearances in DC media for years up until CW's Stargirl.

I’m glad you mentioned Terry McGinnis because everyone was telling people why would we want a black Batman when we have Terry? He’s half Asian half Korean half European in other words he’s biracial so no need for a black Batman we already had a Batman of color for the past 20 years
The entire problem with this list is that they have to properly establish the core characters before they can introduce these lessor known ones. They don’t even need their own big movies (Superman, Batman etc) just consistency and connection to establish them because these side characters are all connected to the core
The thing with these characters is that it’s not people’s fault for under appreciating them but it’s DC’s fault for barley using these characters ever these characters are underexposed they’re not like batman for example so of course people wouldn’t talk about these characters a lot because there’s not enough screen time or content about them

That cartoon touched on so many social issues in a hard-hitting straight forward way that no other shows airing beside it would dare.
Racism, bullying, trauma, homelessness, mental/physical abuse, school shootings, "justice" system, etc, and it covered these while still overall being a light hearted relatable show.
This is what I like about the show. Any shows today that put those social issues are done in a preachy way and forced. No characters are relatable. But Static Shock tackled it the right way and still told a story and made it entertaining.
