    My 1.8t just ticked over 132,000 miles on my way home from work. Been my daily and stage 2 mapped since 2011. I look after her but also drive her hard. Best engine Audi ever made if you ask me. Can't imagine any of their recent engines surviving 24 years lol.

    Tomas, thanks for nice video, I am also proud owner of this engine, 1.8T in Skoda Octavia Combi 1, bought it almost new and have since 2000. Now with 380 000 tkm, daily driver around the city. I drive it almost every day, picking up kids, doing shopping... Every time I start the engine, i feel the joy of all the miles we did together.
    It was my first car (bought with all of the money) and will stay with me until I can hold the steering wheel in my weak old hands. Since then, more than few cars came and passed by, I don't care, they are long gone and forgotten.
    But the first one, is the one.
    I do most of the service myself nowadays, been there in many of your shots from video, replaced almost all of the parts you did. But engine is completely untouched, and looks almost as shiny from inside (i have some build ups, i dont use BFG, change at 7.5-10tkm, Shell Helix Ultra).
    I have complete service and almost complete fueling history of that car in notes and app, and to me, it is the best car I could ever have. Had some ups and downs, but it never let me down stranded in the middle of the road.
    Just did EK/TK earlier this year, and also costed me more than 1k EUR just for maintenance (in parts, labor mostly myself), well, but thats life.
    Once again, thumbs up for nice car you have and please, show us how's the ride.

      Octavia RS 1.8T bought used with K04-064 turbo - I paid more or less the same in parts and labour (2.3K Euro) to get it decent mechanically, touch wood (different parts to this vid). Or it would have cost the same except the 5 speed box has developed what looks like a big (and common?) problem with the diff........

    Still driving the MK 4 BEV 2.0 8 valve manual trans Cars... so simple and easy to work on. Just bought a MK 4.5 City jetta 2.0 8 valve BEV manual trans 130,000 km very little rust. One place they rust is up under the plastic fender liners , the rear seams to be worst, the spot weld seam to pop off the paint and start rusting plus around the plastic inserts where the liner screws go in. Clean it up with a lock disc thingy and then I put Ospho Metal Treatment on any rust pits that you cant get with the cleaning disc. Prep it with acid etch primer then sealer, a bit of whatever other paint you want to put on it, put the liners back in, bobs your uncle.

    For the earlier Audi tt's (same Haldex as your S4), with a filter change, Audi sells you a Haldex oil tube that has 275ml of fluid so 300ml should be ok. You normally fill with the squeeze tube from the drain hole in the bottom, quickly remove the squeeze tube and insert the drain plug (per the shop manual).

    My 1.8T which is on my 2004 A6 manual Quattro has just turned 270,000Km(167,000miles) and is running very strong, all is original(turbo, gearbox, internals and so on....). It was rated at 150hp from factory and i've been running it with a stage 1 for the last 30-40k km. The clutch seems to be weak now, i have just noticed some slippage under certain circumstances so i guess that's my next job on the car. But i am really impressed with this little motor, it is very very reliable as long as you maintain it well and it isn't a very demanding one in terms of maintenance, just keep up with the small things like minor oil leaks, plugs, timing and never go for long service intervals especially since for a supercharged engine it has quite a low oil capacity so it will wear it out quickly, i don't go over 9-10k km between services. It is a bit thirsty for its power output but can't all be perfect, better pay a bit more for fuel than for replacing the engine or having major issues with it. Definetely one of the best engines VAG made, reliable and very tunable!

    • @derekcable
      @derekcable Месяц назад

      Haldex was bought in for this model which is FWD transverse engine from the start rather than spending money developing the Quattro system to fit
      Other transverse FWD cars use Hadex ,Volvo Ford and Mercedes.
      Transverse engines cars are cheaper to make than rear wheel driven one as the mini proved when it came out in the 60s plus its handling in slippery conditions.
