    The newest video in my editor reacts to series. This week I'm watching and reacting to Game of Thrones for the first time.
    Joffrey puts Sansa aside for Margaery Tyrell. Robb marries Talisa Maegyr. Jon prepares to meet Mance Rayder. Arya says farewell to Jaqen H'ghar. Daenerys tries to rescue her dragons.
    Nine noble families fight for control over the lands of Westeros, while an ancient enemy returns after being dormant for millennia.
    Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The show premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and concluded on May 19, 2019, with 73 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.
    Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it. The second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros' northern border.
    Game of Thrones attracted a record viewership on HBO and has a broad, active, and international fan base. Critics have praised the series for its acting, complex characters, story, scope, and production values, although its frequent use of nudity and violence (including sexual violence) generated controversy. The final season received significant criticism for its reduced length and creative decisions, with many considering it a disappointing conclusion. The series received 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most by a drama series, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. Its other awards and nominations include three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation, a Peabody Award, and five nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series - Drama.

    So the reason why the audio sounds a bit weird at 18:53 is because the music playing in the scene got copyright claimed. I used youtube’s new remove music but keep speech feature and it surprisingly worked really well. It doesn’t sound the best but you can still hear and understand everything and it removed the copyright claim so success. Honestly surprised youtube actually came up with something that’s super helpful.

    Joffrey wasn't actually being honorable when he said that, those scenes are theatre. That's how they are spinning breaking the marriage pact and joining with the Tyrell's and make it seem like Joffrey is being honorable doing it. They all knew the "script", Tywin knew what Joffrey was gonna say, Joffrey knew what Margaery was gonna say, Cersei knew what Pycelle was gonna say. The scenes in the throne room are almost always theatre, there are generally no surprises. If someone is speaking, they have been told to speak, what to say and how to say it.

    • @juliant
      @juliant 16 дней назад +3

      its hard for people to like her after she sided with Joffrey against her own sister, got her own direwolf killed, and made Arya have to chase hers away.

    • @evatesche
      @evatesche 16 дней назад +8

      @@juliant And those people missed the whole point of that episode. Sansa had no choice whatsoever than to side with Joffrey. Ned said it himself later on, he is her betrothed and the future king, she must side with him even when he is wrong. And Sansa didn't fully side with Joffrey, when asked about the event she says "I don't remember". She knows she cannot say the truth and she doesn't want to throw Arya and the butcher's boy under the horse carriage either so she pretends to not remember to not have to pick sides.
      People also tend to forget that in the GoT universe, Arya is the one acting out of place and unbecoming. Daughters of Lords learn early on to behave like Ladies. Picking up weapons and acting like the boys is forbidden. So Arya practising with the butcher's boy is not just "some kids playing", it is "unseemly behaviour", so Sansa is actually right here to scold Arya. People tend to forget these characters don't live in the 21st century were women can be equals to men.

    • @evatesche
      @evatesche 16 дней назад +7

      @abbesatty9498 Came here to say the same thing. It is very refreshing to have someone understand the complexity of those characters and their actions.
      At first Sansa annoyed me as well, but after Joffrey made her look at her father's head and threatend to give her her brother's head too, and as a response she coldly proclaims: "Maybe he gives me yours" made me love her character. She has a different kind of strength than Arya but she is a she-wolf nonetheless.

    I've seen Game of Thrones a million times, and until you pointed it out, I'd never considered the contrast between Theon and Osha, both having started as prisoners to the Starks. One who betrays them, the other loyal.

  • @tehcoolemu

    30:30 The whole back-and-forth where Joffrey pretended to hesitate in switching to Margaery was pretty clearly scripted. (As in, within the world of the show, not just the way everything is scripted.) It's theater for the court / people, so that Joffrey doesn't look like a bad guy for backing out of his betrothal to Sansa for opportunistic / political reasons. Joffrey brings up the various objections other people may have as if they're his own concerns, and then some advisor steps in with a prepared speech to rebut them each in turn.

  • @markharris1125
    @markharris1125 15 дней назад +3

    I'm thinking Jon's face was strange because that was the first person he'd ever killed, and that person was a comrade. Tough thing to do. Even if he has changed sides.
    And the mountains at the end weren't the Wall. The Night's Watch is still way north, at the Fist of the First Men.
    As to Jaqen changing his face: remember in Season 1 when Doreah is in the bathtub with Viserys, she mentions seeing a man who could change his face the way other men change their clothes.

    It's much clearer in the books than in the show, but the whole scene with Joffrey, Margaery, Cersei, Pycell, etc. in KL was scripted in advance. It was all political theatre. Someone (probably Tywin) actually managed to get through to Joffrey and convince him that he had to say his lines, so that he wouldn't _appear_ like he was just going back on his previous engagement on a whim.

    Jaime can’t be the heir to Casterly Rock because he’s on the kings guard. Kings guard give up their titles, can’t marry or have children, etc. Kind of similar to the Night’s Watch. Tyrion is still a lord as he’s a Lannister aka a high born person.

    I know "well in the books" responses are annoying, but well, the show made some choices with adapting the Hound breaking into Sansa's quarters that changes what happen between them a lot, but then doesn't do much to provide context to her making the same decision to remain in the Red Keep. But one thing I want to point out--in the show he was clearly shown to have ratted her getting her period out to Cersei just a couple episodes prior. It's not like trusting herself alone in the countryside for an unknowable amount of time to someone she knows has done that to her is a great option either.

    Back in season 1 episode 4, when Viserys and Doreah were having their sexy time, with Viserys telling her about Targaryen dragons while Doreah dripped molten candle wax on him, she said: I have seen a man change his face the way some men change their clothes!

    Thank you Sweet Summer Child, B.K.A. Lexi!!! 😁 You have made it to my top ranked G.O.T. reactor!!!! You are doing very well. The most important element is that your editing is ON POINT!! Your interaction within the episode is great and you are following along just fine. My only complaint is that there are those who think you need to react to the history and lore. It is NOT necessary. In the olden days when G.O.T. reactors didn't have that they did wonderful because their focus was on the progression of the episodes. They were focused on what was going on and figured things out just fine because they did not have other things that SPOILED THE PURITY OF THE REACTION. Some don't even have moderators and they spoil the show THEMSELVES because they anticipate looking ahead!!!!! Anyway, great job and I look forward to your season 3 premiere. LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!!!!! 🐙🐍🦌

    34:00 You can't think about age gaps in a society like Westeros from a modern point of view (which is much more nuanced than most people believe it to be anyway - the Age of Consent in the Netherlands is 16 for example; here in Germany it is 14).
    However - in terms of a medieval or renaissance type society these things are different anyway, especially among nobilities where marriages are most often a political tool more than anything else.
    If you look at history you'll notice that the average age of marriage has climbed significantly over the last few centuries, from about 12 (girls) and 14 (boys) in the 11th century to 25 (women) and 27 (men) in the 19th century all the way to 32 (women) and 34 (men) today.
    Age of marriage and all associated issues are a social construct and have changed so many times throughout time and different cultures.

    • @Nicamon

      True. Also because life expectancy has increased significantly.

    • @Hauke-ph5ui
      @Hauke-ph5ui 16 дней назад +1

      @@Nicamon That is actually another interesting point - life expectancy has actually not increased b as much as most people believe when speaking about individual people. Overall life expectancy has which might sound a bit strange at first.
      However - we have a good record in the form of church books, and what we can find in there is really interesting:
      Peoply dying of old age where usually in their 70's thoughout the last millenium which is only about 10 years lower than today.
      However - what really massively impacted the overall life expectancy is the much higher infant mortality rate. Here in Germany in 2024 was 2.080 deaths per 1000 live births; in the 10th century it was at about 40% - that's 400 per 1000 births.
      Not to mention that about 25 % of all people died before reaching age 10.
      Mortality rates above age 10 where actually not that dissimilar from today though during the last millenium, only at the very end - the amount of people living past 80 was lower and people living past 90 and beyond where very rare.
      When talking about life expectancy in centuries past it is necessary to make the distinction between numbers including or excluding infant mortality rates and mortality rates of children below age 10.

    • @Nicamon
      @Nicamon 16 дней назад

      @@Hauke-ph5ui "the amount of people living past 80 was lower and people living past 90 and beyond where very rare." I was talking about that. It's more likely nowadays to live past 80 or 90 than it was in the past,at least from what I know. And if you live longer you can"allow yourself"to be treated like a _kid_ longer and so to marry later.

    I will never understand why people think Tyrion saved the city. He was losing that fight. They were breaching the walls until Tywin showed up with the Tyrells. Sure, he had a good idea with the ship full of wildfire, but it hardly stopped the invasion. And he's lucky Cersei had the idea to have the pyromancer start making it.
    Different topic. If you go back to season one, the slave girl bathing with Viserys told him about "a man that could change his face the way other men change their clothes". Now we have met one.
    Also strange how everyone loves the rapist. Khal Drogo was a villain (like Dany) and the witch did the world a favor by killing him. Now if we could just get someone to do the same to the dragons.
