I read in a behind the scenes interview that Charles Dance (Tywin) went to apologize to Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) a few times because he felt so bad for the hurtful things he had to say to him while in character.

About Winterfell in the season 2 finale: you are asking the right questions.
Sadly, due to budget limitations, they couldn't show much of the battle at the fist of the first men between the night's watch and the white walker army.

    Book facts:
    Sam:
Sam doesn't see much of the battle of the Fist of the First Men(Mormont knows he's a terrible fighter and leaves him in charge of sending messages from the ravens). He does send a few messages, but at one point, he accidentally releases them before attaching the messages and he messes up in that.
The Watch end up having to flee the Fist with the remaining horses, with the wights tearing at them as they go and barely fifty make it away. The best chapter is Sam's(it's his first POV chapter), where it discusses the march back, with how freezing cold it is and Sam hearing screams when people are left behind beyond the ring of torches that the people making it back are using(not all that happens, but just wait).
The attackers in the wights include a giant bear, which takes the head off one of the commanders men in one swipe.
Sam is one of the luckiest SOB's(er, sorta), as one of the brothers of the Watch(who Sam took the position of steward for Maester Aemon from, as the assassin, Chett, was illiterate and Sam was good with books)was planning to murder Sam in his sleep, only for the Others to attack just as he was ready to do it.
The giants of the books are about 12-13 feet high and rather than wearing furs, they are actually more like sasquatch with their bodies covered in thick fur pelts.
    Jon Snow:
Don't judge too much on the characters from the wildling part. The show effed it up so badly, they're barely recognizable and there were soooo many more cool ones, including Styr(an earless warlord whose people treat him like a god rather than a leader), Harma Dogshead(a thick woman who uses a dogs head on her spear as a banner), Varamyr Sixskins(a warg who controls six animals, including an eagle, three wolves, a snowbear mount and a shadowcat), Dalla(Mance's wife, who was cut)and her sister Val, Mag the Mighty(the giants leader, who's bigger and has white fur rather than brown)and more.
Mance Rayder tells Jon why he left the Wall by showing him his cloak, a Nights Watch cloak with patches of red in the rips. Apparently when he was a brother of the Watch, he was attacked by a shadowcat and he was tended to by a wildling woman, who patched up the rips in his cloak with red silk from the sail of a ship from Asshai(her only possession). When he returned to the Wall, his commander ordered he replace it, as the Nights Watch only wore black. This small denial of freedom made Mance abandon the Watch for good.
Mance reveals he was at the feast where Robert Baratheon came to offer Ned Stark the position of Hand. He had heard that he was coming and wanted to get an idea of what kind of king Robert was(and if he was caught, he was protected by the sacred law of hospitality).
Jon does not say he would join Mance because of the Others. He reminds Mance where the Starks put him during the feast, which immediately convinces Mance to offer him a sheepskin cloak(always liked that better.)
    Tyrion:
Tyrion actually DID lose his nose in the books, and also had a massive scar on his face.
Tywin absolutely loved Joanna, his wife, more than anyone. It's not Tyrion's fault, but he holds him responsible. There are many in the books who say that the best part of Tywin died with her and "He ruled the Seven Kingdoms, but was ruled at home by his lady wife."
Tywin fully believes that Jaime is still his heir, despite the laws regarding the Kingsguard and he believes Jaime will eventually join the fold again(especially since they opened the floodgates by kicking out Ser Barristan Selmy).
    Davos:
Davos has seven sons in the book, but loses 4 of them on the Blackwater. His oldest, Devan(about 12)is the fanatical one who believes in R'hllor and squiring for Stannis.
Davos doesn't even get to see Stannis. He plans to murder Melisandre, but she sees him attempting it in the flames and has her "queens men"(named for worshipping R'hllor, like Stannis's wife)arrest him.
    Dany:
The Unsullied of the books drink a concoction called "Wine of Courage"which numbs them to pain. Their training also involves giving them a puppy after they are first cut and then having them kill it a year later.
    The creature is a "manticore".
In the books, the Warlocks tried to have Dany killed after she burned the House of the Undying. She also didn't kill Xaro(who never betrayed her, as that plotline was stupid). Barristan saved her from the manticore, but was under an alias at the time. He was pretending to be an old squire serving a eunuch bodyguard named Strong Belwas(who GRRM was pissed that the showrunners didn't include).

Damn, not a lot of people clock the fact that Winterfell had been surrounded when the Ironborn turned Theon over and yet it was still burned down. I'm not sure how far ahead you are so I won't spoil it, but I'll just say it wasn't an error or plot hole, you're just observant as hell!

Buenas Tardes Morena, You are good, very good, not because we share feelings towards the characters, but because of your ability to absorb all the data. The strongest without a doubt (apart from the nipple, which still hurts me) was the contempt for Tyrion by his cruel father

Fun Fact. Ygritte is played by Rose Leslie who was the partner of Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow. The two have since married IRL but at this point they were only dating.
You are bang on with Margeary, she may or may not have an ulterior motive for being altruistic, and her motives aren't really clear at this point. She does have a level of... "control" (for want of a better word), of Joffrey, as evident in the dining room scene with Cersei. We are beggining to see the facets of Margearys personality, and while she can be accused of being manipulative, she appears to only use this for "good" and in that respective is the polar opposite of Joffrey who is childish, near sighted and petulant. One of the highlights of Margearys character is peeling back the layers over time and seeing what's at her core.
Something lost from the books is Cersei's admiration for Joffrey, who we learn from her point of view chapters, only sees a carbon copy of Jamie in Joffrey. Rationalising his despicable nature as charisma and charm (something Jamie has in abundance and Joffrey is severely lacking) Cersei is literally blind when it comes to Joffrey. (TV Show Cersei is slightly different as she has a fairly good relationship with her other children Tommen and Marcela, while in the books she basically ignored them and focused all her attention on Joffrey)
