Great video. Thanks Ian. I am wondering how can I put a tap to somewhere 10 inch higher than the highest point I could reach. Lol just kidding. But I will rebuild my horrible serve and this is exactly what I need. I appreciate it.

This is a REALLY helpful drill. Also, it's something that I can practice everyday, not just on a tennis court. I think the major problem with my serve is an inconsistent toss, so I hope this will help.

Nice video! Why do you use the old pro staff, by the way? :)

Great video and drill. Thanks! Everyone says the shoulder should be the hinge on the toss for consistency, so no surprises there.

Ian, great video. Just wondering, is that other video on the toss available on RUclips? I can't seem to be able to find it through your channel. Thanks.

You know, I wanted myself to make a drill device with two poles with horizontal rope in between. I would then toss just over that rope, beacuse I need that little arc... Thanks, I ll try your method first.

hi Ian i just wanted your opinion about when i play a stroke should i think about my swing path or just do it naturally or think about my footwork? what should be on my mind at the time of the shot

Fantastic video. Very useful practice tip to unlock perhaps the most critical key for the hardest shot in tennis. Thanks!

    Love watching your videos.
I kinda disagree with the toss comment. Generally a straight toss is used for a flat serve. A toss that curves is one that is used for a spin serve (kick, top spin, American twist). Tossing with a curve on a flat serve will cause you to lose power if it does not stay out in front.

Well the toss with the curve is sometines used in flat serves and what are you saying that it should be in front of course it will be in front and tossing with the curve wont makd tou lose power on flat serves sampras does that well tossing tge ball with curve but still goes in front and does not lose power

The "Only one hinge point" part doesn't make sense to me. If you look at darts players they use their elbow and shoulder joints, and crucially the finger tips too, very well to be extremely accurate. For me, this action of the darts player is very similar to a ball toss just in a different direction.

Tim Brennan They are incredibly (almost opposite) different motions trying to achieve incredibly different things. I've played quite a bit of darts and honestly don't see any parallels with the serve toss at all.

This is an interesting subject and especially so because I have been taught it slightly differently by a very high level coach. It might be the case that he was unique in this respect. I've watched several videos to see how the pros serve. They all appear to have a single hinge point as you say, so I'm interested in figuring out exactly what is going on. From a physics point of view, it seems to me that if there is only one hinge point then aiming the ball placement inch perfect every time is not going to be possible. I'd be interested to know which players have the most consistent ball placement and biomechanically how they achieve this. It wouldn't surprise me if there were very small and hard to notice micro adjustments in the wrist and elbow that help aim the placement of the ball.

That a great idea. Now you just have to have a partner or coach climb a ladder to and mark the wall with tape as you extend your racquet above your head.
    Thanks
