To me he is literally the most underrated drummer ever. Incredible. So sad he's the only member of ELP remaining. RIP Keith and Greg. Thank you for one hell of a musical upbringing. And Greg, I owe you a lot of money for bass lessons via my stereo.
Underrated by those who know little about the enormous talent, influence and showmanship of CP. Buddy rich, arguably the greatest drumming talent who ever lived and a tough critic of modern drummers-perhaps a bit unfairly, was enamored of two rock/prog drummers he watched, Carl Palmer and Neil Peart. Carl's style is redolent of Buddy's in many ways(see his "Tank" solo from the '76 Montreal concert), save the double base and gong, and his influence on modern drummers has been a tad muted by his classical grip of the sticks rather than the match grip used by most rock drummers. Nonetheless, way back in the early 70s, Carl's contribution to the unique progressive approach to the music of ELP showed that the percussion could have a profound influence on the sound and delivery of an influential prog band. As a soloist, Carl was and is, even in his 70s!, as good as any rock drummers , with perhaps Neil P, Mike Portnoy and a select few others in that lofty class.
Take a look at Carl's solo called tank, live from ELPs concert in Montreal in 1977. One of my all time drummer was Joe morello, my dad had hes album called it's about time and the track called it's about time where he does a solo got me into drumming when I was a kid, also a track on RUclips called blues for Joey another amazing solo.
Carl Palmer my drum idol. To me one of the greatest drummers of all time some say buddy rich stole some of his tricks back in the late 60s early 70s I've seen Caro four times ranging from the 1970s through 2016 I had the great pleasure of meeting Carl and getting his autograph to me there's no one better the man is a machine I got to sit at centerstage and watch this man just go off on the drums for two hours it was amazing

Carl was the guy that really made me want to play drums. I was just a kid bashing on my red sparkle ToRoDoR kit, until I heard Carl's mesmerizing solo from "Welcome Back, My Friends."
