Beasts of Chaos are clearly the best faction in AoS because they are the OG cows and Teclis being the snobby knife ear that he is, wants to be THE BEST and as a result he has deployed the COW MOUNTAINS to TRY and take the title of ultimate cow in AoS. BUT what faction has a cow endless spell? You betcha, that's Beast of Chaos!
I would still give the Best Cattle award to the Chaos Dwarves for the Great Taurus, because who doesn't love a flying, fire-breathing bull from Hell? The Gorghon is, however, the clear silver medal winner in that category, with the Cygor taking third. Both models look so good GW nerfed them with crappy rules just to keep people from always fielding the max number of them. :)
So a couple things. Roll off determines player A and B. Player A picks side then player B deploys a unit first. So winner of roll off can decide to pick side or deploy first. Didn’t really matter this game because of the one drop but still important to know. Secondly “set up” is not a move. So summons, ambush, deep strike, teleport, any mechanic that “sets up” is not a move. So for missions that require movement to control are a detriment to set up armies/units. As someone mentioned before summon units don’t gets battleline or leader keywords.
For discussion sake, I wonder if a way to help "fix" coherency could be having each model having to maintain a certain distance from the Unit leader. Warmahordes does that, but obviously game scale effects that in it's own way. But imagine if the Skeletons had to stay with a certain range of each other and a certain range of the unit leader? Obviously if the leader dies a way to reorient that would be needed. But maybe that could help?
Great Batrep super fun and I have to say that post game did sum up the beasts of chaos perfectly, they are an army that you learn and each game feels like a puzzle to solve as they have so many different ways to approach they also have some interesting battalions (personally I like the nurgle one as it fits the MSU play style perfectly). But the thing that best describes the books strength is that their isn't really much that needs to be improved (except gors but no army is complete without them so bring them to every game)

@@swaggyshadow2124 Not quite getting you. Does the undead return-a-unit trick give them the battleline role or not? I get that the summoned gors don't, but that should be the case with any of the "put back on the table" recycling tricks like the Loonshrine and grave sites.
@@richmcgee434 i believe because for LoN you are bringing back the same unit so it keeps its batteline role but summoning as is explained in Faqs for 2020 or the Commentary how units that dont start in your army dont get battlefield roles, hope that helps
@@swaggyshadow2124 That sounds exceedingly unfair. Which means it's probably correct, but it rewards the hell out of recycling tricks compared to summons.
Beasts of chaos are the best Age of Sigmar army because they have best potential for board control in the game. Plentiful screening units can tie enemy units deep in their own territory and keep the enemy busy while the aura of the Herdstone grows to make units that on their own don't have rend (and thus are pointed fairly cheaply) more effective. Ambushing units can force important enemy units to sit in place rather than doing what they really want to do, and call points can bring crucial units into play for mid-late game power plays. Finally, hard hitting units like Bestigors and Bullgors can use the time bought by screening units to get ideal charges within the Herdstone aura to become extra effective. Plus two effective sub-factions (Allheard and Gavespawn) that allow the army to play differently make for a more fun experience.
I mean, has playing allherd, which are kind of terrible, especially without aetherquartz. Gavespawn are the way to go if you want to play a decentish BoC list imo
And Tzeentch gets to teleport a unit...EVERYWHERE 9" away from the enemy. Our (I play beast) ambushing units have to be within 6" of the board edge. Make it better! Brayherd is an ambushing fray but we are bad at ambushing. God, even the Ogor Hunter ambush better than us!
@@deerspirit7560 to be fair all of the BoC book is kinda terrible. The units don't kill enough or tank enough to be good. And you don't summon fast enough to flood board for objective taking . The fact that it can't even ally the god books is also awful. I would loved brass despoilers backed up by a few khorne priests to get some bull units hitting on at least 3s or with a decent save from bronzed flesh
These 2 armies were so fun to watch. I love BoC and LoN!!! Great game. Would 2 blocks of 20 skeletons be an okay replacement for the 40? Looks like 2 20s would be able to hold more without chaining? I’m a new player looking to begin a LoN list.
They're naked hairy goatmen fighting undead gods, greater deamons, fire breathing dragons and other horrors of the mortal realms with nothing but pointy sticks and sharp knives.....and winning.
The best campaigns, mods and DLC for any strategy game is when you take the early game tutorial enemies, make them playable, and then do the amazing feats of skill to thrash the main campaign characters. Have the Civ Barbarians smash America. Have the Yellow Turban Rebellion crush the Three Kingdoms. Let the tribal folks rule all the Crusaders and the Kings. That’s BoC in AoS. And that’s best.
Some days, you feel like eating a burger. Other days, you feel like a burger is eating you. BoC are the best way to make sure all of your friends know what it feels like to be eaten by a burger, and that is why, they are the best army.
One player has an overwhelmingly more powerful army and then gets a double turn on top of that. Yeah, double turns sure make the game better... This game went from tough to impossible before Steve even got a 2nd turn. Without double turns he might have stood a chance. The biggest problem with the 'I go you go' full army activation system is that one player gets to do loads of stuff while the other player just stands and watches. Double turns just make this even worse. I REALLY cannot understand why they included this mechanic in AofS. Thanks to the close combat activation mechanic and the lesser import of shooting in AofS, the game had the chance to avoid the problem 40k has (one side cripples the other side before it can really do anything) but this chance was squandered by the addition of the double turn which ruins far more games than it improves-And even the games it 'improves' usually involve a player that earned a win losing that win because of dumb luck. I really like the game for the most part, but double turns are terrible.
In a tournament I put Skarbrand and a Unfettered Fury Thirster into 40 skellies not knowing what they could do and they dropped both of my Thirsters. Insane level of attacks.
@@Rexhunter93 Totally possible. Guess you fought somewhere else first? Skarbrand should clear that unit easily by himself, especially when you got more then 1 attack on Slaughter (and second battleround)
@@bluexiii9883 no, Skarbrand did Jack all since this was the time of the 6+ 6+ death save and relic and he saved ALL the damage and then the skellies had the fight twice. First round shiskebabed full health Skarbrand, left the other thirster on 3. Other thirster being grievously wounded did Jack and then got shishkebabed like his boss.
Why are they the best? B.c they have the Bstigors! They are the best unit b.c Best is in their name. Also they play so perfectly like their lore. I have been playing Beastmen/BoC from 5th fantasy, they will always be my love! As a Boc player, casting armies are not fun lol. Also I think there was a FAQ that made it so summon units loses their roles.
I know you've probably already given away the ghorgon kit but heck. Might as well join in regardless... Beasts of chaos are the best army because they are fairly versatile, and play to objectives better than most armies, which this game is heavily about objectives. I could also go on about the models And the lore being awesome. There's seriously just too many good things about them.
I don't know, the goat kits still look fine to me. The Bullgors were never great sculpts, and not helped by the wretched studio paint scheme in the catalog. They'd be on my wish list for a new kit, but well behind plastic Dragon Ogres, maybe Centigors, and far behind a plastic set for a multi-build hero box for both goats and bulls.
Luka, my favorite miniwargaming guy, gravesites are destroyed when you summon entire units from them from the dead, read the command ability. Love the game though!
The exact wording on the command ability is: if your general uses this ability, choose a gravesite within 9” of them. You may pick a friendly SUMMONABLE unit that has been destroyed and set it up again wholly within 9” of that gravesite and more than 9” from any enemy models No where does it say you “destroy” the gravesite. They are permanent and in play the whole game weather you summon a unit from them or not
This Luca Nagash army is unstoppable. Has it lost a fight to any other army in attrition? I understand the weakness is to snipe Nagash but accomplishing that when he is hiding behind 9000 skele boys makes that hard.
Unfortunately summoned units do not count as battleline so Steve’s plan wouldn’t have worked. Nu sommened unit get their battlefield role since ghb2020 so only the keywords like hero or monster do things!
Beasts of Chaos will always be the best army because - as long as you take this as a hobby meant to just have fun with and not only to win at any cost - they’re always hilarious and fun to play and play against. What are they gonna do this time? Who knows! They might make first contact with the enemy and all be like ‘nah, never mind, we’re all just gonna go home now’, spend the entire game getting slaughtered by the dozen and having to be taken off the table with a broom, only to then find out that they won the game because they captured every objective without either player realizing. Also, they’re like a giant, roaming petting zoo.
Check out all the boning going on here! Loving seeing legions succeeding at what they are supposed to do! Especially that curse of years ohhh yessss!! But man you gotta remember Black Disciples with that extra army wide +1 to casting. Each hero has their own amount of units they can target with Deathly Invocation as well. The base amount is 2 units but Arkhan for instance can target like 4? Then if you've got all your gravesites overlapping you can get some serious heals going on but you never needed them that badly in this game. Not that it happened anyway but units from the Lords of Sacrement battalion receive -1 to be hit from shooting so that necromancer, with look-out-sir, would have been a -4 to hit!!! Ridiculous..
Beasts are the best army because it is not getting any more metal then a herd of angry goatmen slitting each others throats just to summon more angry goatmen.
The table set up seems suspicious. >.> Almost like Luka and Josh didn't clean up after themselves from the previous week. Or did you guys just like it that much?
Two thoughts on coherency: One, do something like star wars legion where you have a unit leader and other models have to set up with certain restrictions based off of that unit leader. Two, allow horde units to break off a small clump of models for specific tasks, like holding an objective, but they can't do anything except that task until they regain coherency with their original unit. It'd be like the unit captain telling a few guys "Hold this point" and then he leaves, so the guys holding the point can't do anything else until their captain comes back. Something like that.
I have a huge question about charging & cant find a definitive answer. So basically since engagement range is 1" and say a unit is 7" away technically you make the charge on a roll of a 6? In my mind you have to make the complete charge of a 7 or it fails but my buddies say I'm wrong. Can anyone help me with this & send a link or something so I have proof either way? Thanks & I didn't know who else to ask, I know it's a random weird comment.
When you finish a charge, the first model to move must end within half an inch of the target unit, so if you rolled a 6 you would be an inch away so the charge would fail. Edit: engagement range is also 3” not 1”. You cannot move within 3” of a unit because you would be in combat with that unit
I keep getting mixed answers everywhere...lol..I also heard if a unit is above you by over 1 inch youd actually only need a 3" charge because you can engage at 5" vertically for 9th 40k anyway?
which also would mean technically you could make a 13" charge as well but for the rule that states you cannot declare a charge on a unit over 12" so who the F knows...I dont...lol
@@ultamathule so the way it works in AoS is different from 40k. The engagement range for 40k is 1” but for AoS it’s 3”. In both you still need the first model to move to end within half an inch or the charge fails
Your comment about units doing nothing while sitting on objectives is partly why I'm not a fan of the new 40k missions. Most of the objectives involve having a unit sacrifice its turn to "insert random action here", and scoring points. The issue is that the objectives aren't fun or thematic or even interactive. You just sacrifice a turn and get the points. As a result, your units end up basically doing nothing other than pushing buttons. I've won the last three games with my Tyranids, but I've been utterly annihilated each time. I've barely killed anything, but I've scored gonzo points by running around and pushing buttons in the opponent's backline and everything. So while yes... I'm "winning", the fact that I basically resign not to play the game, but instead just hope the opponent can't kill me or push more buttons fast enough... it's just not very fun.
I mean i hear yall sayin the ifs and the it was close but no, it was over well before the game even started. Never understood the play bad to know its bad. If you know its bad then dont play it.
I hear that if you lie down and let people drop bricks on your nuts its a bad idea.... Steve " don't know if you don't try" picking bad units in bad sizes, the worst battalion, then taking it for the worst great bray heard and not in Slaanesh from one of the worst army's in the game... then give up first turn so you can get double turned against death. how did you think it would go?
ruclips.net/video/oO_wd7Ui3mI/видео.html this 60 seconds (ish) of gameplay and steve's reaction to the question Luka asks him is exactly why I built this army... its evil and amazing a true blue black control deck!!
"At the Double: You can use this command ability after you make a run roll for a friendly unit that is within 6" of a friendly HERO, or 12" of a friendly HERO that is a general. If you do so, the run roll is treated as being a 6." You declare it after you make the roll.
OMG Steve's theme, and 2k 1 drop... you (...dare I say it?) BEAST!!! Luka, you know what I like too buddy this is exactly what I was running with this army!! Thanks so much again for playing it, it has been amazing and surreal to watch! There's tons more models in that army too, spirit hosts, morghasts, hexwraiths etc... am sad to part with it but its time :) check out my other work and contact info inkandbristle.wordpress.com/
Yeah I pass on this predictable outcome. This is bad content. At least bring something that stands a chance, keep your playing bad to call it bad games off camera so we can actually care about the game. It's like a coach putting in the worst player and saying well I can't say they are the worst until I try him out. I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed, you guys can do better.

@@richmcgee434 yea returning the unit is fine, but when steve tried to summon the gore onto the obj they actually dont clame kt because they don't get the battle line role due to new ghb @miniwargaming
One of my favorite mats...
Good game fellas!
That feel when tzeentch just gets their points casting spells while BoC has to kill their own models and sacrifice whole command points
Would be nice to be able to ambush within 6' of board edge, or 3' from any terrain piece! That would be something interesting and fluffy
I’d love to see Steve’s deepkin vs a list like Luka’s. I need to see a legion v deepkin game!
They're naked hairy goatmen fighting undead gods, greater deamons, fire breathing dragons and other horrors of the mortal realms with nothing but pointy sticks and sharp knives.....and winning.
Best thing about Beasts of Chaos?
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Steve, use that exact same army but with the Hedonites Allegiance and see how it does!
well you'd need to do a little shuffling since Bestigors aren't Battleline in Hedonites....
Probably much worse as you lose Allherd, beastman ambush, herdstone, and the 3 passive rules for each type of beast
@@krilc But they gain the Fane, summoning Daemons, exploding 6s on all their models, and whatever subfaction they want.
The hairy men of chaos are the best simply the beards wicked beard up and down stairs
Thanks for bmen reports about to start aos and learned heaps
Love seeing you swap it up away from Brass Despoilers, Steve! It's cool seeing new strats with the same army. Gonna try the other two gods?
I’d love to see a Sylvaneth BR, it’s been awhile. :) good content
Can we all take a short moment and appreciate that this 280 pts 40 Skeleton unit can dish out a potential 320 attacks each turn? That IS insane.
I legitimately think Bulgors with shields are pretty good.
Beasts of Chaos are the best army in AoS because when you loose you can always say that its because you played BoC
I wanna know what words were said off camera!
This game looks solid.
The army i want to see remade the most is Beastmen. Love the Gors/Bestigors and Bullgors but the models havn't aged well.
Neither have their rules
I don't know, the goat kits still look fine to me. The Bullgors were never great sculpts, and not helped by the wretched studio paint scheme in the catalog. They'd be on my wish list for a new kit, but well behind plastic Dragon Ogres, maybe Centigors, and far behind a plastic set for a multi-build hero box for both goats and bulls.
Look at the seraphon
Luka, my favorite miniwargaming guy, gravesites are destroyed when you summon entire units from them from the dead, read the command ability. Love the game though!
The exact wording on the command ability is: if your general uses this ability, choose a gravesite within 9” of them. You may pick a friendly SUMMONABLE unit that has been destroyed and set it up again wholly within 9” of that gravesite and more than 9” from any enemy models
No where does it say you “destroy” the gravesite. They are permanent and in play the whole game weather you summon a unit from them or not
no they dont
Oh shoot, I read it wrong! Man. As a legions player this is awesome news, thanks guys!
love to see a corpse cart on table
This Luca Nagash army is unstoppable. Has it lost a fight to any other army in attrition? I understand the weakness is to snipe Nagash but accomplishing that when he is hiding behind 9000 skele boys makes that hard.
Odd question, but when the LoS was putting their stuff down, why didnt they just put the Dire Wolves in the grave?
To block outflank I believe as the units on the flanks were deployed a little further forward.
42:24 Me during the learning of exams
Imagine one shotting a Gargent from the incredibly unlikely scenario of rolling 6 6s for 36 mortal wounds with the mirror lol
Gors need fixing! Either put them on 25mm bases or give them an extra attack.
53:32 Also me during the exams
Well that was... something.
I think the list looks pretty good minus the 30 gors. I feel like the match up was just a little rough.
Steves Beastmen just cant roll to save their lives
How did the Black knights get to fight twice?
The Beasts of Chaos are the best army because they are super tasty after a fireball
Summoning units dont get battleline keyword sadly
There is no cow level...
The table set up seems suspicious. >.> Almost like Luka and Josh didn't clean up after themselves from the previous week. Or did you guys just like it that much?
Two thoughts on coherency:
One, do something like star wars legion where you have a unit leader and other models have to set up with certain restrictions based off of that unit leader.
You only need to get within an inch
Beast of chaos play how Skaven Clanrats should xD
Beasts of Chaos are the best because Steve is the best, period.
Didn't the zombies come with grave stones? Gotta love zombies
"Let's talk about things that r propably bad"... talks about bestigors !!! dude have you even played with bestigors before.... really?? !!
Yo what's happened to Vito?
He left MWG back in August.
I mean i hear yall sayin the ifs and the it was close but no, it was over well before the game even started. Never understood the play bad to know its bad. If you know its bad then dont play it.
How do you roll that bad omg hahaha
why dont you play with terrainrules
get more bestigors bro... get rid of the ghorgons, they just bracket too fast
Hello
BOC, BOC, BOC!!!!!!
ruclips.net/video/oO_wd7Ui3mI/видео.html this 60 seconds (ish) of gameplay and steve's reaction to the question Luka asks him is exactly why I built this army... its evil and amazing a true blue black control deck!!
i think you cant spend a command point to run 6, you must declare to spend the cp before rolling the dice, im not sure but i thinnk so.
"At the Double: You can use this command ability after you make a run roll for a friendly unit that is within 6" of a friendly HERO, or 12" of a friendly HERO that is a general. If you do so, the run roll is treated as being a 6." You declare it after you make the roll.
@@bennydeckard I understand, im Spanish and it's a little confusing how it's explained in my language... Better I shut up xD
Beasts of Chaos are the best army because they have more cheese tactics than that Ghorgonzonla you're serving up to get me to comment.
