Autodesk Instructables has a course on Arduino Animatronics specifically for costumes and cosplay. As far as I can tell it is free and walks you through all the steps. I hope that helps. Connect the 4 strings to the 4 fingers at different lengths to articulate motion and emote. Black camo face paint could be used to hide the gloss and color of the strings.

That might limit their arm movements. With the strings hidden through clothing and down to the hands one wrong arm/hand movement could snatch the wig right off.
One thought I had is to run the strings individually through some kind of tubing or sleeve. This might minimize tangling and friction. It might also allow the strings to run in ways that might not otherwise be possible while being able to be pulled. The tubing could be run down the neck and hidden in the black part of the makeup, under clothing, and so forth. At the elbows, the tubing could be integrated with a basic elbow brace and hinge; the tubing being cut and sleeved into a more durable part that's over the hinge. But then again, maybe I'm massively over-complicating things >_>
I believe that some years ago, I saw a show on doing things like the ears - probably by the Henson Workshop people? - and something they used was plastic tubing to run the strings through - much like the tubing used on bicycles for the brake / shifting cables. The tubing was then bundled underneath the costume to go to the various area it was needed. Also, back when, they used servos with simple on/off switches, because programmable servos weren't quite available to them yet. The servos could push a rod or pull a wire.

The more I watch your videos the crazier I think you are, and I love it! The urge to poke at my head piece to see how you do harpy ear feathers constantly fights with my absolute love of it and fear to hurt it. I have ideas and they concern me.
Haha they're relatively sturdy so as long as you're not throwing it across the room it should be okay! But I also plan to have a video coming out in August about how I make the Harpy Headpieces in detail, so hopefully that will help!
I know you said that you might ditch the marionette handles, however, I have a suggestion to "disguise" them. Since Husk is a gambler, it would make sense that he might have some playing cards on him. So you could maybe attach some playing cards to the ends of the handles to make them look like they're levitating by the hands, like you're using magic, and you can still operate the ears as intended. It'll look like you're moving your hands to make the cards levitate while also "hiding" the handles that control the ears.
Invisible/magicians thread (some are called kevlar thread) would be perfect for your puppetry! x3 You could attach them to different points on your elbows too for some subtle hands free movement.
For the eyebrows I actually have a tip for this. I play a character with feather eyebrows for LARP and what I do is cut out a patch of leather (because it is relatively rigid but still flexible and close to my skin-tone undyed. You could always dye it darker or buy a lighter shade, but ideally it will all be hidden by the feathers anyways) that is a bit bigger than my eyebrows and curved in the same shape. (sort of a large bean shape). I wet the leather and let it dry over a curved surface to get it to maintain the curved shape of my brows better. Then I contact cement on feathers to the front of the leather and attach them with spirit gum applied above my actual eyebrows. As long as the feathers are large enough/you have enough to completely cover the base it is pretty invisible and they stand up to being taken on and off without risking the feathers. You may still pull out some of the invisible little hairs above the eyebrow, but none of the ones you can see. These usually stay on for a whole day of running around and they move with my actual eyebrows, so you can make fun exaggerated facial expressions with them. One pair lasted me a year of games ~2 times a month for multiple days of camping each event (just removing them to sleep and re-applying in the morning)

For the Husk cosplay, if you don't want to wax your eyebrows, I suggest placing the eyebrows above your existing eyebrows. You can use some face paint to cover your eyebrows. Hope this helps!
Connect the strings in a way that the positioning of your head will create tension when you turn it or tilt it a certain direction the movement might not be as dramatic but it will still create the illusion of natural movement and be able to convey emotion if it works
That ear movement actually looks a lot better than I thought. Really like how you made it! Also, didn't realize you made it all on a wig, as one piece. I thought you had a wig, a 'diadem' with the ears and a hat, all separate. As one piece, you can actually use the hat for some electronics and batteries (when you get to that point ;) ) Really would have loved to help you out, if you weren't on the other side of the world XD Maybe an idea for hiding the fishing lined: can you thread the lines through a thin tube, and have them come out near your pockets for example? You could hide the tubes in your clothes, and have the crosses near your pockets. i saw your tiktok and had to RUSH over to see how you did this! I've used these casters SOO much in other projects but NEVER thought about using them for ears!! I LOVE the cosplay ingenuity
Should look into things like the dragon shoulder puppets that use bowden cables. It's the same thing used in bike break lines. I plan on trying it out in a future costume for movements.

Re: movable parts, I used really small rolling bearing wheels, they were about marble sized ball bearings in a socket that goes over the bearing a tiny bit over half of it so it stays in place but they are great for moving in any direction. If you want to restrict the movement you can use drop of glue or resin (if it’s non-metal) or even just a blob of soldering on the points of the ball bearing you want it to stop at. 😸

As somebody with an electronics background, learning to use servos is relatively easy to get the hang of, and will open up a world of opportunities. You could also look at Pan-Tilt platforms that have two small servos in them that would give you the same range of movement as the castor wheels, but give you full electronic control of them.
Do you have suggestions? because I am striking out on the normal sites I look at for random electronics...I'd love to do this and have glove with programmed buttons.
@MissTwisteddd - Fantastic Husker cosplay! I know you have the ability to make the ears do what you want with some programming and some discrete buttons on your wrists to make the ears do what you want them to do!
Might I suggest the system that is used in shoulder puppet dragons you find at ren faires to move their heads? It's a single line of control in the tubing and you pull it for up down motion, and twist it for side to side. It's designed to be threaded under clothing and easily hidden too.
Depending on how much movement you want to keep for your head and your shoulders, you could use the suspenders to hide the strings. Let the strings come down near your (real) ears, to the upmost part of the suspenders. A small metal ring stitched to them can function as a guide. Each pair of strings runs to the lower part of the suspenders as a loop, turning in an additional metal ring. Halfway, there is a final ring on each of the string pairs, which can pull them up and down. Place both of them on a slightly different height and use a diameter that you can easily put your fingers through. Now, with your thumb and another finger, you can move the rings separately up and down from each other. The reason for the different height of the rings is to prevent your fingers from crossing each other in some cases, which could mess up with the strings. Because of the loop, you can pull on all four strings with only two fingers. If you use black rings, they should be relatively inconspicuous. Bonus points for a simple way to detach the strings from the suspenders. Maybe if the rings on your shoulder have the biggest diameter. This way, if the rings on the lower end are detachable, you could easily separate wig/strings and the suspenders from each others.
Super awesome Husk cosplay. The ears are a incredible feat of puppetering. Also, with the current styling of the wig you used, black hair suits you really well.
For the ear motion, a next level control could be to hook the fishing line into some little servos and preprogram some different positions that you can flip between with a little remote. The whole outfit is looking great!
This whole cosplay is a showcase of your skill. I am very impressed. I especially like the the giant tail. It likes someone should be using it as a goth palm frond to fan you at some spooky lounge
Those ears are my DREAM. I love how you figured out how to make them move and feel natural in regards to how similar it looks to actual cat ears. They look fantastic, even if the motion itself of making them move is a little clunky lol. If you ever come up with more ways to do ears like those, I'd love to see!

I've seen some amazing diy puppetry done using bicycle brake lines. The wire in the line is stiff that you can twist it and have it manipulate the swivel, then pull or squeeze the line to tug on the wheel part of the ears base, giving you full range of motion in one wire per ear! Look into shoulder pet puppets to see what I mean. Love your work! ❤
I already made mention of this having viewed progressions of Hazbin wings creations, but it really is your individual character that draws a varied audience. I enjoy following the processes of how you put an idea together that eventually leads to a possibly finished result & yet even then, it's just a learning curve as you stated towards the end of this project as to how you could combine say the electronics of those other ears you showed with something of your own concocted design & one day similar to the scene from Paycheck you would probably have a side by side comparison of what you achieved here with a far superior one as you beam a smile of success. Good luck with what you continue to strive toward!

no idea if this would work, never done cosplay or costume design, but an idea I had for mounting the tail to the waist is instead of fishing line, use something that has some mild elasticity to it, devise some sort of method to shorten and lengthen it at will allowing you to have it more taut or slack allowing for POSSIBLY more expressive secondary motion, always love these uploads, I am beyond happy you do long form videos rather than just short form, I PRAY this channel gets more attention cause it deserves it

This is an amazing cosplay Charlotte, and I think it goes without saying that there was a lot of unique ideas, time, and dedication that went into this project, absolutely stunning! 🎉❤🖤❤🎉 As for some advice/tips for the puppet strings to control the ears: I think if you used black thread it would have less of a shine then the fishing line and actually be less obvious, especially when alot of the cosplay (wig, and vest) are already black.
I was thinking of controllers and then you mentioned it at the end. There should be enough space in the hat for electronics and batteries i would think. That aside, this is brilliant and Husk looks amazing

Absolutely wonderful, gorgeous cosplay! I wonder if having little springs to pull the ears back into their 'default' pose, upright, I'd imagine, would help? it would cut down on the number of strings you'd have to use, at least.
Hey there, if you ever decide to "sock up" a tail again try out this, a thin covering of plastic on the core of the tail. Think like a dry cleaning bag cut so you can wrap the core to slide in, then pull the plastic out leaving the core behind. It's.ore or less the same way automotive seats are upholstered. Bag pulled over the foam. Material pulled over the plastic so the foam doesn't 'grab' and tear or lump in areas. Even better is its a long thin bag enough that you can connect the open end to a vacuum, squeeze it down release the vacuum and your tail sheath is filled without much fuss.
If mechanical movement is easier, something like the little spring reels in retracting badge holders might work to let the ears spring back to the default pose? Then it'd just be a single control string to do different poses temporarily before they return to default
Absolutely loved this video. The castor wheels for puppeteering the ears is pure genius, and yes my first thought was you were going to use some micro servos for controlling them. As for your wings, I have made folding wings that can be worn around a convention that lay flat, about the same width as my torso, and then fold out to an 11 foot wingspan. I used a 12V trunk actuator from an auto parts store to actuate it. I based the actuation partially on how bird skeletons actually move.
@@MissTwisteddd For the wings, I used a 12v actuator, a center off double-pole double-throw switch, and a 12v battery pack. switch position 1 opened the actuator, and position 2 closed it. No fancy programming needed.

These ears are genuinely so cool!!! i love the marionette bit of puppetry magic to make them move too. As for the wearing of it all day I have a few ideas 1. obviously you said that you want something a little nicer that the sticks, maybe it it were a little smaller you could put pockets on the back shoulder blades so you could have a friend put them into it to tuck them away when you arent actively using the ears. 2. another idea is maybe make the fishing line ends be able to dettach and reattach to the cross sticks in some way like magnets buttons etc then you just take the strings off the cross and tuck them away, each stick end and attachment line could be color coded to make it easy to put back together in the right way. 3. get rid of the cross and put attach the strings into loops and then maybe 2 rings or a ring and a bracelet to be able to animate the ears, you could also just have to loops and see of there is enough stability that if you move it the ears stay. There are so many different ways you could go about it and fiddle with them to get them working well, good luck and I'm sure you'll figure out a cool way!
So when you had the caster I thought to myself that's a bit heavy and bulky but you definitely made it work. I think you undersold how much practice you did or you had a leg up from your previous ears. Loved the hat. It is quite whimsical. So at least for me, knowing the end result from the beginning turns the video from being filled with anxiety on if it'll turn out to interest on how it was done.
Since I'm assuming most people here might not be terribly tech savvy: VPNs are almost always unnecessary as the only thing they do is allow you to change location. None of the "safety" stuff that's advertised applies. There's a million videos talking about this stuff in great detail. Just so you people are aware. Another great video Charlotte. you might try incorporating the cross hatches in to the suspenders them self somehow. that way it might look like husk is fidgeting with his suspenders wile you'er moving the ears, food for thought.
One thing you could for the ear control is add some electronics in the mix. Some mini servos controlled by a microcontroller attached with a joystick or something would give you some really precise control. The cosplay looks amazing regardless!
For electronic puppeteering you should be able to replace caster wheel with set of two servos.(One as caster axis other as wheel) Also hat would be ideal housing for controll board/batteries. And sevos if you'd decide to keep caster wheels where they are, and stay with fishing lines.
The ears were amazing!!! Seriously! The whole cosplay is! However, I'm excited about the gloves! Those turned out so well, and they're more in my wheelhouse skill-wise. I've gone as a black cat for Halloween several times, and those would be a fun addition. 😊
I use the same paper trick when I sew pleather on my sewing machine - except I use baking paper because it's even thinner and tears away even easier than just random scrap paper!
You could use small springs or some elastic to pull the ears so you'd only need 2 per side. Youd want it tensioned more than the default position so you can still move in those directions by pulling less on the strings. And maybe routing the fishing lines so they come out somewhere els on the costume so they're not visible around your face where the most attention is drawn. Down the back and out of the waistcoats somewhere maybe
Also black braided fishing line might be better if you can find it in a low weight. Braided line is thiner for the same strength so might hide better. It also doesn't have the same stretch as mono which may have some uses
Wax and parchment papers are two separate things, for anyone curious. Wax is parchment paper that has been treated with actual wax, and should never be used for baking at all. It's a storage paper. For the fridge or freezer. Parchment is oven safe, up to a point.
Matte black fishing line might make things less obvious, at least for this cos. Also, you might be able to reduce the number of lines by including a spring-like mechanism in the ears to return them to a preset position. Of course, getting a set of servos and an Arduino or Raspberry Pie would solve all these problems😊 You might be able to get away without the programing by running wires to control buttons (switches) hidden in your gloves, too. As always, you're FABulous! Always look forward to your next project!😊
omg i LOVE THESE. what a cool effect!! wonder if you could do some sort of rig to attach the strings to your fingers running down your sleeves ... would be harder to learn to control, but could give you more movement without having to hold something, leaving your hands free for the wings
This looks so good honestly!!! Something I've seen fursuiters do is make the ears flobby by having a rather loose point of attachment and some weight up the points, so the ears can get some momentum and move with head movements.

your Husk turned out super cool! for moving cosplay ears ive always wondered if someone could do something with those old brainwave cat ears (necomimi?) that used to be all over the place. they were cheap for awhile but idk what they're like nowadays. They have that exact kind of swivel you mentioned though - but also have super bulky bits that stick out. if you could modify those though it'd be really cool, especially with the alleged functionality of responding to the wearer's cues with the sensors.
That's the cos-ear things I referenced in this video! Same concept. I think I could modify those, but I think making a whole new pair would be even better!

To "simplify" the usable mechanics for the ears you might make some "preset" positions that only happen when you pose a certain way. For example "angry full swivel back" position might be accompanied with a crouch, or an "I'm going to claw your eyes out" hand movement that could pull on a string attached to your wrist, or even your leg somehow, while you could still have a two string set up for more subtle back and forth movement. It might limit some range of movement, but it might be a little easier to control "everything" if some movement is only for specific positions.
You could control the ears with head movements if you uses push buttons to attach the strings to your vest. Plus you could use black ribbon tubes to "hide" the strings. Or, use just plain black upholstery thread. It hides best, contrary to the shiny stuff. This all beside, you look amazing in this cos!

I play a character with feather eyebrows for LARP and what I do is cut out a patch of leather (because it is relatively rigid but still flexible and close to my skin-tone undyed. You could always dye it darker or buy a lighter shade, but ideally it will all be hidden by the feathers anyways) that is a bit bigger than my eyebrows and curved in the same shape. (sort of a large bean shape). I wet the leather and let it dry over a curved surface to get it to maintain the curved shape of my brows better. Then I contact cement on feathers to the front of the leather and attach them with spirit gum applied above my actual eyebrows. As long as the feathers are large enough/you have enough to completely cover the base it is pretty invisible and they stand up to being taken on and off without risking the feathers. You may still pull out some of the invisible little hairs above the eyebrow, but none of the ones you can see.
These usually stay on for a whole day of running around and they move with my actual eyebrows, so you can make fun exaggerated facial expressions with them. One pair lasted me a year of games ~2 times a month for multiple days of camping each event (just removing them to sleep and re-applying in the morning)

For the Husk cosplay, if you don't want to wax your eyebrows, I suggest placing the eyebrows above your existing eyebrows. You can use some face paint to cover your eyebrows. Hope this helps!
Connect the strings in a way that the positioning of your head will create tension when you turn it or tilt it a certain direction the movement might not be as dramatic but it will still create the illusion of natural movement and be able to convey emotion if it works
That ear movement actually looks a lot better than I thought. Really like how you made it! Also, didn't realize you made it all on a wig, as one piece. I thought you had a wig, a 'diadem' with the ears and a hat, all separate. As one piece, you can actually use the hat for some electronics and batteries (when you get to that point ;) ) Really would have loved to help you out, if you weren't on the other side of the world XD
Maybe an idea for hiding the fishing lined: can you thread the lines through a thin tube, and have them come out near your pockets for example? You could hide the tubes in your clothes, and have the crosses near your pockets.

Should look into things like the dragon shoulder puppets that use bowden cables. It's the same thing used in bike break lines. I plan on trying it out in a future costume for movements.

Re: movable parts, I used really small rolling bearing wheels, they were about marble sized ball bearings in a socket that goes over the bearing a tiny bit over half of it so it stays in place but they are great for moving in any direction. If you want to restrict the movement you can use drop of glue or resin (if it’s non-metal) or even just a blob of soldering on the points of the ball bearing you want it to stop at. 😸

I've dabbled into electronics (only LEDs for now) for the first time in the last year and while the process was quite hard it was such a satisfying end product!! Can totally recommend :')
As somebody with an electronics background, learning to use servos is relatively easy to get the hang of, and will open up a world of opportunities. You could also look at Pan-Tilt platforms that have two small servos in them that would give you the same range of movement as the castor wheels, but give you full electronic control of them.
Do you have suggestions? because I am striking out on the normal sites I look at for random electronics...I'd love to do this and have glove with programmed buttons.
@MissTwisteddd - Fantastic Husker cosplay! I know you have the ability to make the ears do what you want with some programming and some discrete buttons on your wrists to make the ears do what you want them to do!
Might I suggest the system that is used in shoulder puppet dragons you find at ren faires to move their heads? It's a single line of control in the tubing and you pull it for up down motion, and twist it for side to side. It's designed to be threaded under clothing and easily hidden too.
There are shoulder puppets that use bike brake cables for controls. Those might be a good start for better 2 axis movements.
Depending on how much movement you want to keep for your head and your shoulders, you could use the suspenders to hide the strings. Let the strings come down near your (real) ears, to the upmost part of the suspenders. A small metal ring stitched to them can function as a guide. Each pair of strings runs to the lower part of the suspenders as a loop, turning in an additional metal ring.
Halfway, there is a final ring on each of the string pairs, which can pull them up and down. Place both of them on a slightly different height and use a diameter that you can easily put your fingers through.
Now, with your thumb and another finger, you can move the rings separately up and down from each other. The reason for the different height of the rings is to prevent your fingers from crossing each other in some cases, which could mess up with the strings. Because of the loop, you can pull on all four strings with only two fingers. If you use black rings, they should be relatively inconspicuous.
Bonus points for a simple way to detach the strings from the suspenders. Maybe if the rings on your shoulder have the biggest diameter. This way, if the rings on the lower end are detachable, you could easily separate wig/strings and the suspenders from each others.
Super awesome Husk cosplay. The ears are a incredible feat of puppetering.
Also, with the current styling of the wig you used, black hair suits you really well.
For the ear motion, a next level control could be to hook the fishing line into some little servos and preprogram some different positions that you can flip between with a little remote.
The whole outfit is looking great!

Those ears are my DREAM. I love how you figured out how to make them move and feel natural in regards to how similar it looks to actual cat ears. 20:27 A "Precision Pin Vice" is the tool that can easily make a hole in that space. It's used primely in jewelry and miniature sculptures.
I've seen some amazing diy puppetry done using bicycle brake lines. The wire in the line is stiff that you can twist it and have it manipulate the swivel, then pull or squeeze the line to tug on the wheel part of the ears base, giving you full range of motion in one wire per ear! Look into shoulder pet puppets to see what I mean.

I already made mention of this having viewed progressions of Hazbin wings creations, but it really is your individual character that draws a varied audience. I enjoy following the processes of how you put an idea together that eventually leads to a possibly finished result & yet even then, it's just a learning curve as you stated towards the end of this project as to how you could combine say the electronics of those other ears you showed with something of your own concocted design & one day similar to the scene from Paycheck you would probably have a side by side comparison of what you achieved here with a far superior one as you beam a smile of success. Good luck with what you continue to strive toward!

no idea if this would work, never done cosplay or costume design, but an idea I had for mounting the tail to the waist is instead of fishing line, use something that has some mild elasticity to it, devise some sort of method to shorten and lengthen it at will allowing you to have it more taut or slack allowing for POSSIBLY more expressive secondary motion, always love these uploads, I am beyond happy you do long form videos rather than just short form, I PRAY this channel gets more attention cause it deserves it

As for some advice/tips for the puppet strings to control the ears: I think if you used black thread it would have less of a shine then the fishing line and actually be less obvious, especially when alot of the cosplay (wig, and vest) are already black.

Absolutely wonderful, gorgeous cosplay! I wonder if having little springs to pull the ears back into their 'default' pose, upright, I'd imagine, would help? it would cut down on the number of strings you'd have to use, at least.
Hey there, if you ever decide to "sock up" a tail again try out this, a thin covering of plastic on the core of the tail. Think like a dry cleaning bag cut so you can wrap the core to slide in, then pull the plastic out leaving the core behind. It's.ore or less the same way automotive seats are upholstered. Bag pulled over the foam. Material pulled over the plastic so the foam doesn't 'grab' and tear or lump in areas. Even better is its a long thin bag enough that you can connect the open end to a vacuum, squeeze it down release the vacuum and your tail sheath is filled without much fuss.

If mechanical movement is easier, something like the little spring reels in retracting badge holders might work to let the ears spring back to the default pose? Then it'd just be a single control string to do different poses temporarily before they return to default
Absolutely loved this video. The castor wheels for puppeteering the ears is pure genius, and yes my first thought was you were going to use some micro servos for controlling them. As for your wings, I have made folding wings that can be worn around a convention that lay flat, about the same width as my torso, and then fold out to an 11 foot wingspan. I used a 12V trunk actuator from an auto parts store to actuate it. I based the actuation partially on how bird skeletons actually move.
I definitely want to learn servos, but electronics intimidate me, it's on my list for eventually!
@@MissTwisteddd For the wings, I used a 12v actuator, a center off double-pole double-throw switch, and a 12v battery pack. switch position 1 opened the actuator, and position 2 closed it. No fancy programming needed.

These ears are genuinely so cool!!! i love the marionette bit of puppetry magic to make them move too. As for the wearing of it all day I have a few ideas 1. obviously you said that you want something a little nicer that the sticks, maybe it it were a little smaller you could put pockets on the back shoulder blades so you could have a friend put them into it to tuck them away when you arent actively using the ears. 2. another idea is maybe make the fishing line ends be able to dettach and reattach to the cross sticks in some way like magnets buttons etc then you just take the strings off the cross and tuck them away, each stick end and attachment line could be color coded to make it easy to put back together in the right way. 3. get rid of the cross and put attach the strings into loops and then maybe 2 rings or a ring and a bracelet to be able to animate the ears, you could also just have to loops and see of there is enough stability that if you move it the ears stay.
There are so many different ways you could go about it and fiddle with them to get them working well, good luck and I'm sure you'll figure out a cool way!

So when you had the caster I thought to myself that's a bit heavy and bulky but you definitely made it work. I think you undersold how much practice you did or you had a leg up from your previous ears. Loved the hat. It is quite whimsical. So at least for me, knowing the end result from the beginning turns the video from being filled with anxiety on if it'll turn out to interest on how it was done.
Since I'm assuming most people here might not be terribly tech savvy: VPNs are almost always unnecessary as the only thing they do is allow you to change location. None of the "safety" stuff that's advertised applies. There's a million videos talking about this stuff in great detail. Just so you people are aware.

Another great video Charlotte. you might try incorporating the cross hatches in to the suspenders them self somehow. that way it might look like husk is fidgeting with his suspenders wile you'er moving the ears, food for thought.
One thing you could for the ear control is add some electronics in the mix. Some mini servos controlled by a microcontroller attached with a joystick or something would give you some really precise control. The cosplay looks amazing regardless!
For electronic puppeteering you should be able to replace caster wheel with set of two servos.(One as caster axis other as wheel)
Also hat would be ideal housing for controll board/batteries.
And sevos if you'd decide to keep caster wheels where they are, and stay with fishing lines.

However, I'm excited about the gloves! Those turned out so well, and they're more in my wheelhouse skill-wise. I've gone as a black cat for Halloween several times, and those would be a fun addition. 😊
This is incredible! Your transformation is surreal.
I use the same paper trick when I sew pleather on my sewing machine - except I use baking paper because it's even thinner and tears away even easier than just random scrap paper!
You could use small springs or some elastic to pull the ears so you'd only need 2 per side. Youd want it tensioned more than the default position so you can still move in those directions by pulling less on the strings. And maybe routing the fishing lines so they come out somewhere els on the costume so they're not visible around your face where the most attention is drawn. Down the back and out of the waistcoats somewhere maybe
Also black braided fishing line might be better if you can find it in a low weight. Braided line is thiner for the same strength so might hide better. It also doesn't have the same stretch as mono which may have some uses

Wax and parchment papers are two separate things, for anyone curious. Wax is parchment paper that has been treated with actual wax, and should never be used for baking at all. It's a storage paper. For the fridge or freezer. Parchment is oven safe, up to a point.

Matte black fishing line might make things less obvious, at least for this cos. Also, you might be able to reduce the number of lines by including a spring-like mechanism in the ears to return them to a preset position. Of course, getting a set of servos and an Arduino or Raspberry Pie would solve all these problems😊 You might be able to get away without the programing by running wires to control buttons (switches) hidden in your gloves, too.

omg i LOVE THESE. what a cool effect!! wonder if you could do some sort of rig to attach the strings to your fingers running down your sleeves ... would be harder to learn to control, but could give you more movement without having to hold something, leaving your hands free for the wings
Yeah I think that would be my go to, but I might try and skip straight to servos, a lot more to learn but would free up my hands even more!
This looks so good honestly!!! Something I've seen fursuiters do is make the ears flobby by having a rather loose point of attachment and some weight up the points, so the ears can get some momentum and move with head movements.

your Husk turned out super cool! for moving cosplay ears ive always wondered if someone could do something with those old brainwave cat ears (necomimi?) that used to be all over the place. they were cheap for awhile but idk what they're like nowadays. They have that exact kind of swivel you mentioned though - but also have super bulky bits that stick out. if you could modify those though it'd be really cool, especially with the alleged functionality of responding to the wearer's cues with the sensors.
That's the cos-ear things I referenced in this video! Same concept. I think I could modify those, but I think making a whole new pair would be even better!

Making the fingers to where you can use your phone quickly is impressive forethought!
To "simplify" the usable mechanics for the ears you might make some "preset" positions that only happen when you pose a certain way. For example "angry full swivel back" position might be accompanied with a crouch, or an "I'm going to claw your eyes out" hand movement that could pull on a string attached to your wrist, or even your leg somehow, while you could still have a two string set up for more subtle back and forth movement. It might limit some range of movement, but it might be a little easier to control "everything" if some movement is only for specific positions.
You could control the ears with head movements if you uses push buttons to attach the strings to your vest.
Plus you could use black ribbon tubes to "hide" the strings. Or, use just plain black upholstery thread. It hides best, contrary to the shiny stuff.
This all beside, you look amazing in this cos!
